Secrets Maroma Beach

We had an amazing time for my parents 50th anniversary. EVERYONE was very friendly and accommodating. The beach was beautiful and we only had one day where the seaweed was "out of control". However, that being said, the crew did an awesome job trying to keep up with it. But hey we are at the ocean, there is seaweed... it's to be expected. The hotel always had actives going. Although sometimes their app was slightly off. We did a couple of off site excursions, but definitely not necessary to keep busy. My only complaint about the hotel would be out on the balcony. The small little dividers they have to separate each balcony does not give ANY privacy. Each balcony has a jacuzzi and the guests on either side can see anything and everything that is going on on your side. Otherwise, it was an amazing vacation!

Horrible beach

I have never been so disappointed. I booked this resort because they were rated top 10 for their beach. There was a three foot wall of seaweed on the beach my entire stay. The area smelled horrible and the water and beach were discusting. I was forced to sit in a pool my entire stay. I could have stayed owl for a pool and saved $3,000. Very disappointed customer.

This was our third time at this resort. I feel bad about giving the beach a bad rating. As it is not the hotels fault that there was a storm that brought in a ton of seaweed. So much that we couldn’t even swim in the ocean. I was thankful that this time we were NOT hounded by the vip people to do their selling thing. But it is frustrating that we have to meet with the Apple people to confirm our trip back right when we get there. This happens every trip and I wish we didn’t have to do that. That’s my only complaint. This is our favorite of the AM resorts we have been to. I do wish they could bring lobster back on the menu though.

Hard to imagine a better all-inclusive experience.

My wife and I spent our 10 year wedding anniversary at Secrets Maroma Beach. From the time we were picked up for transportation from the airport in Mexico, the service was nothing short of being the BEST imaginable. From the cleanliness of the resort, quality of food and service received fro every individual at the resort - we were 100% satisfied in our decision to go to Secrets Maroma. There is one thing to consider (con for us) about this resort is as follows: Late June/early July does not have the best quality of beach experience in Cancun due to the amount of seaweed that washes ashore. You may have to wade through a few feet of seaweed to get to the ocean water. HOWEVER - after speaking with a few repeat visitors to the resort, we were advised that they have the very best beaches and water clarity during most times of the year. If you do not plan on actually going in the ocean, this won’t be a problem for you! If you are anything like my wife and I, it can be a little intimidating to book a vacation unless you do it frequently enough to know exactly what you are doing or know a travel agent personally. I would be happy to answer any unfiltered questions you may have, if you would like to email me - gjseanor24@gmail.com We 100% recommend this resort based on our experience and the number of people we met that stated the experience is always as satisfying.

Second visit, very disappointed

Since this was our second visit to this resort, I had high expectations, but unfortunately we had some issues. Went to the pool one morning and then left to walk the beach and have lunch. When we came back, our items were gone and other people were in our chairs. Stff took our belongings, and said were gone too long. We were gone 1 1/2 hr, mostly waiting for lunch. I ordered a cake for my wife birthday, and when we saw it in the room it was infested with ants. I asked for a new one to replace it, and when I returned from dinner, it was either replaced or not, but still had the ants. At check in, I was put in building #20, I aske dto move up and as told it will cost $400 more per day. This was my 6th visit to a Secrets resort and they couldn't care less. I will not return to a Secrets resort.

Best hotel we've ever stayed at

I have been to Mexico 7 or 8 times before going to this hotel (Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun). Nothing, NOTHING, has compared to this one. From the beautiful beach, amazing pools, excellent food (with many options too), outstanding customer service, great spa, and endless activities and things to do this place was just amazing. I got married here and we had 86 guests and every single one of them had nothing to complain about. They treated us very well and the wedding coordinator was very helpful throughout the whole process and really made my vision come true. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and go back in a heartbeat. I now want to try some other Secrets resorts.

Secrets Maroma, Wow!!!

From the start, just perfect. We traveled with another couple. Arrived in on a Friday night. Check in was amazingly fast, courteous and professional. No more than 4 minutes start to finish. Greeted with the standard cold towel & glass of champagne. Taken to rooms by bell service, providing friendly advice and chit chat. Get to room, 2nd floor building 24. Great lay out, nice size, spotless. It was late, we went to the Mexican restaurant, 1030pm, they were closing at 11pm. Sat down, had an excellent meal with great service. Fast & attentive. Breakfast was great, next morning buffet. 2 different egg stations, every type of food you could want if you don't eat breakfast food also. Service again, great. Ate lunch in various places, steak house/fish house & same buffet, again great. Dinner at Asian restaurant. Great food, but understaffed. If you want Hibachi, it's the only place you need to make a reservation for. Next night ate at Steak House. Get the Flat Iron Steak. Basically a large filet mignon. Service from Roberto, great again. Last night at the French restaurant. Pablo was our waiter. Food and service were both excellent. Pool was just the right size. Plenty of activities. Pool butler service was a pleasant surprise. They wash your glasses, refresh towels, and give you a chill towel. Attentive, but not overbearing. Beach was one of the best I've seen in Mexico. A bit of seaweed one day, but cleaned up promptly. Music in the lobby at night. 2 piece band's. Not one bad band. Entertainment staff were a lot of fun. Keeping things light, but motivating. Spa was a little pricey, but professional.

Cold Swim Out

If having a cold swimout was the only challenge, we had a blast. What more can we say about one of the AM Resorts flag ships. This resort does go above and beyond. Yes, you can still receive a straw with your dink if you ask. Our favorite restaurant was the French Restaurant followed by the Asain Restaurant. For lunch the brick fired pizza oven is excellent. Don’t miss this. Again the entertainment team was outstanding. The resort is spending resources to keep the beach clean. We stayed in one of the renovated preferred rooms. Excellent rooms. My only complaint is that we couldn’t get hot water in the bathroom sink. Only warm. The shower was hot. Yes we will return and yes we would recommend this resort.

My husband and I had a blast at this place! The resort is amazing... beautiful, clean, food is awesome (so many options). Pedro made sure we were not running out of drinks at the pool area; Mariano our concierge was awesome and Jordan, from the entertainment team, made sure we were all having fun at the pool and in the beach. There is no need to get out of the resort.... they have bars, entertainment area, theater, movies, special dinners and much more. I would more than recommend this place and certainly we will be back. We travel a lot and stayed in some high end hotels, and I can say Secrets is on the top of our list for sure.

My new husband and I just got back from Secrets and I'm already missing it. It's a short trip from the Cancun airport and we were greeted with champagne in the preferred club (so were the guests in our party who weren't in PC). I have to say that while we loved the view from our room in building 27, I don't feel the price of preferred club is worth it, at least not for us. Aside from making arrangements for the shuttle to take us back to the airport and to pay for our wedding, we didn't go to the PC lounge, nor did we partake in the spa's hydrotherapy circuit. We'd heard it was great but with the gorgeous beach and pool, we felt there was no need to spend hours at the spa's circuit. Our room was gorgeous and customer service was TOP NOTCH. From the concierge to housekeepers and beach/pool staff, restaurant staff, etc. we had the BEST customer service. We never ordered room service because the restaurants are amazing but next time we will because...how convenient and our guests said it was great. We reserved a Teppanyaki table and this might have been our favorite dinner at the resort. It was entertaining and DELICIOUS (many of our guests agreed). I also loved the Italian and we ate there twice. The gnocci carbonara and osso bucco, along with mushroom soup and fig tortellini were amazing. Their desserts were also my favorite at the resort. We also enjoyed the French restaurant and I highly recommend the french onion soup. My brisket was so-so but my friend's duck, the lobster (comes in the shell but is cut open for you) and my husband's chicken cordon bleu were sooooo tasty! I was not impressed with the seaside grill for dinner and many of our guests agreed. The oceanside restaurant was ok...I actually LOVED the beef rib but my scallops and my husband's chicken roll were lacking flavor. We didn't make it to the mexican restaurant but many of our guests said it was really good. Besides...when in Mexico! We enjoyed the breakfast buffet everyday and they always had a few new items to keep it interesting. We tried the buffet for lunch twice but preferred the poolside grill. My favorite was the chili bean nachos. We also had lunch delivered to us on the beach once but as far as food goes, this was my least favorite. The beach, which has had a lot of seaweed this year, was pretty clear while we were there. I think there was only one day with seaweed and it was very mild...it didn't stop anyone from enjoying the ocean. The wind picked up most days, however, and we weren't able to paddle board or snorkel, although I've heard that snorkeling at the resort is lack luster because the fish have no reef to hide in. You can walk down the beach and sign up for a tour across at the island. We did enjoy the hobie cats but note that you can only take one out once per day, for 30 minutes. I spent a LOT of time in the coco cafe enjoying the day (and night) time treats and beverages...not quite the same as if you ordered your beverage of choice back home but not bad. Speaking of drinks...get the hot chocolate at the breakfast buffet...mmmmm cinnamon! We had our wedding on the beach halfway through our trip and Elizabeth Perez was a delight to work with. She communicated effectively and we felt that pricing was reasonable. Their ocean front pergola and pool side gazebo are gorgeous locations for your big day! We hired an outside photographer because we couldn't see the resort photography beforehand although their photos are gorgeous and I almost wish we'd have gone with them. Our day started at the spa and the ladies were great but I would just say this:. when you have a destination wedding, you need to be willing to let go of some of the control, which was hard for me. My spa specialist asked me what I wanted for hair and makeup so I showed her some photos...which didn't end up being the direction she went in. So speak up if you have a specific look in mind. It ended up looking really good, just not what I was really going for. They don't open the drapes in the bridal suite so there's a lack of natural light and when my bridesmaids and I got back to the room to get ready we had to do some blending and touch ups to fix the looks. We'd sent in some photos of flowers we liked and that's not exactly what we got. We had asked for light pinks, blush, and peach and got nothing but pink roses. They were beautiful but not what we were going for. Again, you have to let go a little bit...the flowers were a few hours late arriving to the room so unfortunately we had to do most of our photos without them :( It also rained on our day, unfortunately, although I hear this is good luck and thankfully it didn't start until the end of our ceremony, which was outdoors. We didn't end up getting group photos on the beach because of the weather but that's not the resort's fault at all. I have to hand it to Elizabeth, though, because she stood with us in the pouring rain and helped us figure out our next move without panicking. We dried off in the main lobby and then she had our reception moved from outdoors to inside in one of the ballrooms. It ended up being very pretty but not what we'd envisioned. Again, not the resort's fault that nature decided to have a big rain storm, but I was a little disappointed because we'd paid for certain chairs, decorations, plates, etc. with cold fireworks for beach side...none of which ended up happening a the decorations, etc. had been outside in the rain and the fireworks, well, they're not going off indoors. We understand this completely, however there seemed to be no price adjustment for this. The mariachi band was phenomenal and fun for our cocktail hour and the food was amazing. I was disappointed that the first dance song was cut off at around 2 minutes because we'd choreographed the entire song and no one informed us that it would be shortened...we spent a lot of time and money on those dance lessons :( Also, right after we cut the cake the MC got everyone out dancing and by the time we stopped to eat, they'd taken all the cake away and cleared the plates. I had one bite and while delicious...it would have been nice to be able to have it brought to the room and maybe even sent to guests' rooms for a late night snack. We will return to Secrets Maroma again in the future. We can't blame mother nature for putting a twist on our wedding day and the resort handled it as well as I'm sure is possible. Definitely a good place to relax, enjoy the pool (very cold), beach, daily activities (a lot of our guests did the water aerobics, bike tours, kayak tours, and arts and crafts). There's an ipad type device bedside that has all the daily activities and you can order room service without picking up the phone! Just note that the restaurant menus are not the same on the ipad as they are in some of the restaurants.

Honeymoon at Secrets Maroma
a_cobra66, Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Tue Dec 11 12:50:04 EST 2018
We recently went to Secrets Maroma for our Honeymoon in November 2018 and this place definitely exceeded our expectations! The beach was very nice...but honestly I feel like other beaches are comparable! But it was windy when we were there and there was some seaweed washing in on most days! To their credit, they did all they could! They had a tractor sweeping the beach, guys shoveling in wheel barrels, and a big ship out in the ocean trying to clean up as well! It may have just been a bad time in the season! Plus it was still beautiful! From a resort standpoint, it was pretty much perfect! The resort is beautiful! Our room wasn’t right next to the ocean, but we could see it and we had a tub on our deck so I was glad to have the room we did! The room I self was spacious and well kept! We had people come in twice a day and make our bed in different ways! There were a ton of staff and every single person was as kind as can be! They did accept tips but we rarely had money at the pool or the beach and it didn’t change the service at all! We have a few bucks here and there but it was never expected! The drinks were very good and the bartenders always made my wife something random and fruity...and she loved them! The food was absolutely amazing! We tried every restaurant they had and loved different things about each one! They had French, Italian, Mexican, hibachi, seafood, and a Buffett if you didn’t wanna dress up! Every place had phenomenal food! Best food I’ve had yet at an all inclusive resort! Plus they had shows every night and sometimes they set up a big meal outside for anyone who wanted to attend! They also had a spa where we did a couples massage! The lady used her elbows on my back and it was glorious! Very cool set up! Overall, I loved the resort and would recommend it to anyone that’s looking for more of a relaxing or romantic getaway!
