Better choice in Cancun
Ojerseyg, New Jersey

Staying at the Hard Rock for a week wanting to escape so much loud music we decided to check Secrets and was given a tour and almost bought in their membership which gives you discounted rates. Was close to signing but just as easy to just go back stay a few days not get tied in as the sales pitch like timeshares start out high and gives you supposedly the bottom price as you walk away. The facility is nice and promises gourmet dining but just don't get caught up in presentation and just find special rates if offered. More>

Beautiful room located close to main building and restaurants. Perfectly landscaped walkways to pool and beach. Hammocks and seating areas scattered through out area. Food - buffet for breakfast, excellent with so many choices. El Patio, Mexican cuisine served with such attention to detail, delicious and our waiter Manuel was charming and very attentive. He also took the time to introduce us to several of the after dinner drinks. Tequila which we were not familiar with - he explained the different kinds of Tequila. The Manager Neftali also came to our table and both of them made us feel very special and welcomed to their restaurant. Every meal in each of the restaurants was served with great attention to detail and very delicious. If you are a dessert lover like my daughter and I are, you will be fascinated by the selections offered. Unique presentations and exceptionally good. Wait staff always pleasant and OFFERED their services. Our Concierge, Ricardo made us feel like we were the only guests of the hotel. We definitely were not the only guests, just made to feel like that. It is nice to feel pampered and they certainly know how to do that. More>

We spent two amazing weeks at Secrets Maroma and it was an unforgettable experience. There's so much to do, but doing nothing at all is perfect in this idyllic setting as well. It's a 5 star resort with 5 star service, food and entertainment. A special shout out to our wonderful concierge Gerardo and the outstanding entertainment team including Nacho and Erica (my football buddies). But that's just to name a few, there are so many unsung heroes at Secrets Maroma from the gardeners, cleaners, waitresses/waiters, chefs etc that make me this place really special. The breakfast and lunch buffet was fantastic and the staff that greeted us with a smile everyday were awesome. We didn't eat at the Mexican or Italian restaurants during our time there, but that was only because there was such a great choice of those cuisines at the World Cafe lunch buffet. The French restaurant was delicious and despite the attempt to up sell bottles of wine to you, the house red & wine included are fine. The "Secrets Box" next to your room door is genius! For the time's when you want room service but may have over indulged on booze the night before & aren't keen on seeing anyone, the staff will simply put your order in the box for you to pick up inside your room. We came back glowing and relaxed. Thanks for making our honeymoon really special. More>

It's hard not to gush about our experience in this home-away-from-home hotel. From the second you arrive, you are made to feel completely welcome. Every single member of staff seems intent on ensuring you feel comfortable and at home. The first words we heard when we stepped off the bus were "Welcome home!" And it really feels like that too. We were celebrating our 10 year Anniversary and they made a huge fuss of us. We arrived at our room, and there was a large “Happy Anniversary” banner across the door. Inside, was a bottle of Champagne on ice and also a voucher for a Champagne breakfast in bed. We were truly touched by these gestures and it felt really wonderful to walk into our room. For me, whenever we go on holiday, I spend the first three days counting the days until we get to go home. Not here. From the SECOND we walked into Secrets Maroma, I dropped everything and was 100% on holiday from the very first sip of the welcome drink we were offered. In 20 years of international travel, I have never experienced a welcome like this. Or a hotel truth be told. Tripadvisor has many reviews talking about the food, environment and service and it all lived up to - way beyond in fact - our highest expectations. I really can’t emphasise how hard the staff work to ensure your holiday is unforgettable. But there is a dark side. Underneath the hospitality lies a predator in waiting. Let me explain. On the morning of our second day, we received a phone call from VIP services telling us that our VIP package of vouchers worth $200 was waiting for us at VIP services. Of course, we were pleased and surprised so off we went to investigate. To receive these vouchers, we had to "register" and promise to attend a 90-minute breakfast presentation designed to introduce us to the wide world services of the Unlimited Vacation Club. I am no Spring chicken and have been subjected to "time share" sales presentations before, we said no. They sweetened the deal by offering us a free Romantic Dinner (value $300). We figured that $300 worth of on-the-beach trough was worth 90 minutes so we reluctantly agreed. My wife comes from a professional sales background so she is no fool when it comes to the psychology of selling so we thought it would be a cake-walk. The next day, we dutifully showed up for breakfast. The sales guy allocated to us was very personable and very people skilled, gently probing for information - looking for buying signals, financial ability etc. (I suspect we had been Googled too …) It felt a bit uncomfortable but we were made aware that we were not going to get our Romantic Dinner unless we stayed the course. After breakfast, we went to visit a typical suite and were then shown into the Sales Room. For the next 2 and a half hours, we were subjected to the most manipulative and brutal sales bombardment I have ever experienced. As an advanced SCUBA diver, I have seen shark feeding-frenzies that had less aggression. In the end, we gave up out of sheer exhaustion and stress - just wanting to get out of there and back to our holiday. Poised to sign the contract, I noticed several hitherto unmentioned items in the small print. I flipped and closed down the "deal" there and then. The whole thing had taken 5 hours and I was more stressed than I was before I got to the hotel in the first place. The point of the story? Well, the $200 in Vouchers is rubbish and unusable unless you spend another $500. The Romantic Dinner? Frankly, the food in any of the 7 restaurants is better. I had the WORST steak I have EVER had that night, the service was inadequate and frankly not worth $30 not the $300. Half a day of our beautiful holiday wasted! Make no mistake, this is an awesome place to go for a holiday! The general service on the beach, around the pool and in the restaurants is world-class, top notch, warm and friendly. BUT unless you want to be beaten within an inch of your Credit Card limit, tell them to take their Vouchers and stuff them! Avoid the Sales Team and you will have the most relaxing time you can imagine. Be warned also that at the airport, there is another one of these guys working for an opposition hotel chain. We arrived after a 10 hour flight to be pounced on by this guy who offered us a free trip to Chichen Itza if we attended a 90 minute sales presentation at HIS hotel. No matter that we were exhausted, travel-worn and vulnerable. As a newcomer to the country, the last thing one wants to do is offend so we listened politely (as you do) for 30 minutes then managed to get away. There really is no such thing as a free lunch. If someone offers you a free something for a presentation – tell them to take a hike! The Adults Only Secrets Maroma is a fantastic hotel, the junior swim-out rooms are incredible, the service top class, generally the food is excellent, the alcohol top shelf, the room service efficient - there is a lot to like here and we will most definitely return!
