Secrets Maroma was excellent in all ways. Loved everything about it. Very excited to visit again after the completion of all room renovations (even though the old rooms are still great).

The checking was horrible. We waited hours to get a room. The. They gave us a swimout next door to all the construction. Dust, jackhammers, yelling from the workmaen. I had to call and ask for another room. Don't ever book an early flight to this hotel. Then they tried too sell us a "membership" time share. Never again.

Having stayed at several other Secrets hotels, we decided to choose this Miramar. Our biggest problem, which we never had at any of the others, is that Apple booked us on a flight arriving at 9:15 a.m. and they did not have a room ready until 3:15. We are aware check in is at 3:00 but we couldn't help when our flight was and I would think that the Secrets Maroma could have accommodated better--the others have to having a room ready to telling us to go eat and then one would be ready. They gave us a pager, but the pager did not work. The girl at the front desk was brief and almost rude. We just kept hearing check in is not until 3:00 --which it was 3:15 before we were shown to our room. We have enjoyed having day 1 be part of our vacation--day 1 this time was a complete aggravation. We were not met with cool washcloths or champagne as we had been at other Secrets in Riveria Maya and then they were offered as we were leaving the front desk area. Our Apple Representative had no idea when our return car to the airport would be, we had to talk with another rep who wasn't there right then. It has always seemed like a well-oiled machine that we have enjoyed for a quick getaway. This was frustration from the beginning--even breakfast was a wait for coffee every day and when asking for cream we were given some flavor kind and we had to wait and ask again. So not even the wait staff seemed up to par. We told them we were there for our anniversary yet no anniversary banner was on the door like others--a little thing but one more lack of attention to detail. The speaker in the bathroom didn't work--always enjoy music as we get ready for the evening. Just not up to what we expect from a Secrets hotel from our other experiences!!!

It was overall an excellent trip. The only complaints that I have is that the hot water in the room never got hot. The concierge had someone work on it and it work tolerably for one evening, but the next day it again would not get comfortably warm. The other complaint that I have is that service and food at the French Restaurant was terrible. We waited over 30 minutes to be seated. When we finally got seated the waiter was very slow in bringing bread and taking our orders and then other people who came in after us were served their meals at least 10 minutes before us. We had good service at the Italian restaurant and Excellent service at the Japanese Restaurant. Additionally the breakfast buffet was excellent and the service at all bars were excellent. Overall the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The evening entertainment was okay, but nothing special.

We would like to first thank our Travel Agent for helping us make a decision. After all there are so many hotels to choose from in this area. There was construction going on but nothing that harmed the comfort of our stay. Check in process was smooth but we got passed off a few times to the internal salesman that were working us to look into a VIP timeshare investment which we did not know until the next day when we agreed to hear them out. I think this is something they wait to do until guests have completed their stay instead of when they first arrived. Other than that we loved the food, the bartenders, service staff, were so happy to help you with anything you needed. After a couple days I started tipping because I can't imagine working in that heat! Our room was beautiful and clean - probably the nicest room I have ever stayed in (so far in my life). We enjoyed the entertainment which we tried to attend nightly if it peaked our interest. The pools were clean and well maintained. The restaurants were far beyond my expectations of what an all inclusive resort offered. It felt like you were in a different place in each restaurant. The only thing we neglected was packing my husband PANTS for them so we had to sit outside due to dress code. Our flights were smooth nothing out of the ordinary. The transports were great in taking us to and from where we needed to go and got there safe. All in all we loved the resort and our stay at the Secrets Maroma.

Did not like the Sales pitch that you forced into receiving right at check in. They should ask you if you would like it first.

Very frustrating that Apple insisted on picking up us 4 hours before our scheduled departure and refused to pick up us later. Also frustrating that the resort was fixing the roof right above our room for three of our six days and we as very loud and disturbing.

Ok, listen to me because, I know now the best of Secrets with only a couple of small negatives which really didn't matter. From the minute you walk on the property, you are treated special and everyone just goes out of their way. We were a young couple in our 30's and wanted a resort that had no kids or college crap...(although I do love kids and like to day drink into the night) its just nice to have the more calm laid back environment of this adult all inclusive. I chose not to upgrade my room from partial ocean view knowing I would have a front row seat of the ocean all day lol..lounging around with my wife getting drinks and food brought to us on the beach...never had that kind of service before. Everyone we met were friendly and of course happy...except for the loser that wanted some american music played at the bar one night because he was a stupid hillbilly who somehow was granted access to secrets...stay in alabama....or tennessee if you want to hear journey..you know who you are ...ok that was the only negative of the trip..Listen to the warnings of the other reviews because its true you are bombarded with the opportunity to join the vacation club at secrets...only 90 min...lol..i talked to a couple who said it took 3-4 hours and they harassed you to the very end just to get a romantic dinner for two for free...I mean I would love to do it if I was loaded and could afford 8 vacations a year otherwise...waste of time and I am soo glad I lied to my initial concierge guy about going like he lied to me about no pressure 90 min experience....just don't do it...The resort has all you need in a week and we only went on 1 excursion to xplor....the zip line and jeep and cenote experience which I totally suggest...otherwise just stay at the resort and enjoy all it has to offer...its awesome and we are scared to actually venture to any other resort that is not secrets ...we might try but to tell you the truth, I just don't know if it gets better..I really have nothing negative to say other than that loser comment but I imagine there is always a loser who doesn't belong everywhere you go...so other than the initial sales pressure...loved this trip...better than any vacation i have been on from the 8 cruises and multiple beach experiences in my life....do this one and you won't regret it. Our video will be up soon on you tube.. check under secrets maroma....ken/eva

Overall, we were satisfied with the resort. We loved the swim-up room. However, we got tired of all the up-selling that was done. It is advertised as an all-inclusive! And, the resort credits were a joke. The terms were so restrictive that we never used them.

Secrets Maroma Beach was amazing! The views were breathtaking; f&b - expansive; mini-bar - full sized and fully stocked; and service - intuitive! The staff seemed to be there before we needed them! 24-hour room service was always accurate and timely. Their excursion staff was knowledgeable and the Chichen Itza Express excursion made the trip! Gracias Secrets Maroma Beach!

The resort is indeed beautiful. The food was quite good and the drinks at the bars offered top shelf liquor. We have visited the RIU Palaces several times and found that the employees there were much more friendly and welcoming. We felt that Secrets Maroma employees were much less friendly.

Best resort yet, worth its price

This was the fourth Secrets I've stayed at (previously at Playa Mujeres, Capri and Silversands) and far from the first time along this portion of Cancun/Riviera Maya. This was also the most I've ever paid for a seven-day excursion, by about $200. That said, it was worth every penny. By far, this resort has the nicest beach and beachside amenities of any resort I've stayed at in the past. There is a lot of space on the beach, there are plenty of options for shade (without needing to book a cabana) and there doesn't seem to be as much seaweed accumulating as on other stretches of this coast I've stayed at. The sand is clean and walking into the water does not require dodging endless amounts of coral or those unsightly fake sandbars that are being used elsewhere to attempt to stem beach erosion. The restaurants, spa, facilities, etc. are on par with every other Secrets. The layout of this resort, however, lends to the feeling that it's smaller than it is. Even with one or two blocks out for renovations and updates and fairly decent occupancy, the resort did not feel crowed-- and while I was there there were two large weddings and at least two business groups. I had a second-floor room in the 2200 block, which offered a view towards the main pool, but obscured enough to allow for privacy. Meals were amazing. In particular -- the lime soup at El Patio, which I could have just kept ordering over and over. The filet at the Seaside Grill was cooked to my liking, tender and tasty. Portion sizes have also been looked at here -- compared to past experiences, the portions are now more realistically sized to allow you to have an appetizer, entree and dessert without feeling like you need to be rolled out of the restaurant. There are only a few things I might say that could have been better -- they did not disappoint me or affect my overall perception, but could elevate this property to be even better than it is. First is the Unlimited Vacation Club. I mentioned in the review of my last Secrets stay how disappointed I was that AMResorts has decided to pursue this avenue as the means to both grow business and offer some reward to frequent visitors. While I avoided the high-pressure sales pitch and being passed along from one salesperson to the next, it was still a 30-minute delay selling me something I wasn't interested in. I did not want to attend the full sales presentation and if I wanted to join, I can look into those options on my own. Those who do this and don't buy are left feeling frustrated-- they've wasted vacation time they've paid dearly for and are made to feel bad for it. The second thing I might mention was restaurant selection for breakfast and lunch. To have only the buffet or room service options for a hot breakfast could be improved upon, but the available options of continental at the cafe offer another option. For lunch, at other Secrets I've stayed at, both Oceana and the Seaside Grill would open (though not every day). Here, only Oceana would open for lunch, leaving three options in total-- it, the Barefoot cafe (where there wasn't really seating, it was more of a carry-out than in some other Secrets) or the buffet. I didn't participate in daytime entertainment (this is key beach and lounging time!), the evening options were varied. The Beatles tribute was a nice mix, as was the mentalist. I would recommend this resort to any adults looking for a nice spot to lounge on the beach and enjoy great facilities and dining.

We just returned home from a 7 night stay in paradise. The high praise for the food and beach is well deserved. But,you can't say enough about the entire staff. Reception, wait staff in every restaurant, housekeeping and bell services all excel. Special thanks to our concierge Miguel,he far exceeded anything that could be expected of him. Our beach concierge Eduardo"Mi Tacayo" was always there for us,as was pool concierge Egy. At lunch Seaside Grill server Armando will put food on your table and a smile on your face. If you're lucky enough to have Dario serve you on the beach you will want for nothing. Finally Lucy in the lobby bar and theater is one of the most pleasant people you will ever meet. this was our 3rd visit to Secrets Maroma, and, hopefully not our last.
