Our return to Secrets Maroma
DANIEL M.
Jan 18 2018
Briefly three items will keep us from returning to this hotel: 1. On arrival, immediately upon arrival the VIP staff, whisked us away to talk. We thought they were with Apple, but about 5 minutes in, we realized this was a move to have us purchase lodging at the hotel as a time share or? it was not easy to get away, the individual begging us to say we would come to a talk. This hassle wasted our time, under the pretense of being welcomed by the hotel. 2. Our room was to have an ocean view, but instead had a large building between us and the water. My wife and I came here for the second time for our anniversary, because the first time, all was as told to us. We had to wait a day, inconvenienced packing and unpacking to move to an appropriate room. Most importantly, both rooms had balconies, but the cushions in both rooms were moldy. We photographed the mold, and gave it to the checkout clerk when we left. Shortly after telling the clerk and showing her the photos, she sought us out, and gave us an upgrade, but we had to sign a document that there would be no discussion about the mold. We had pointed out that the mold was a health problem. 3. Often the maid service was late in the day, and at least twice, towel not left, had to be requested later. Both the facilities were well worn, and the help seemed slower to right problems. I asked to put a medical ice pack in a hotel freezer, but was told it could not be done. (I travel the world, and have never been refused this critical need). Instead, I received a cooler in our room that I had to get filled with ice. It arrived two days after the request.

Secrets Maroma advertises itself as ultimate luxury. We think it comes up short in that regard. We had hot water issues every day which was never completely fixed. Quality of food was excellent, however, one could not find lobster, NT strip steak, or other upscale menu items. I requested a drink of Patron Tequila and was told that would be an extra $11. Is all inclusive fake advertising? If it is on the bar it should be included at no extra cost. You can advertise ultimate luxury but in the end you must earn it. If I am looking for upscale all inclusive resorts in the future I would return to Iberostar Grand Resorts instead of Secrets

What an amazing experience, my girlfriend and I loved it! We stayed 7 days and the service and quality of the resort was top notch! We will be coming back here next year for sure! If you're looking for a relaxing time and a beautiful beach view with a significant other. There is no better place to be.

Housekeeping was exceptional. Activities staff were excellent. Mostly no reservations at restaurants was good. Food was iffy. Sometimes it was excellent; other times it was just OK. My only caution is to NOT go to the time-share presentation--regardless of what they offer. Their 90 min presentation is really about 2.5 hours and they will not take "no" for an answer.

The hotel was absolutely amazing; from the staff friendliness to accomodations to the food and beach. Everything was perfect. The only thing I can say is do not feel pressured to attend the "only 90 minute breakfast" scheme they try to pull. They are trying to sell you on timeshares and it lasts much longer than 90 minutes. We didn't fall for it but we saw others who did. Your vacation time is very limited, spend the time doing what you want to do, the "gifts" for attending are not worth it.

Secrets Maroma was excellent in all ways. Loved everything about it. Very excited to visit again after the completion of all room renovations (even though the old rooms are still great).

The checking was horrible. We waited hours to get a room. The. They gave us a swimout next door to all the construction. Dust, jackhammers, yelling from the workmaen. I had to call and ask for another room. Don't ever book an early flight to this hotel. Then they tried too sell us a "membership" time share. Never again.

Having stayed at several other Secrets hotels, we decided to choose this Miramar. Our biggest problem, which we never had at any of the others, is that Apple booked us on a flight arriving at 9:15 a.m. and they did not have a room ready until 3:15. We are aware check in is at 3:00 but we couldn't help when our flight was and I would think that the Secrets Maroma could have accommodated better--the others have to having a room ready to telling us to go eat and then one would be ready. They gave us a pager, but the pager did not work. The girl at the front desk was brief and almost rude. We just kept hearing check in is not until 3:00 --which it was 3:15 before we were shown to our room. We have enjoyed having day 1 be part of our vacation--day 1 this time was a complete aggravation. We were not met with cool washcloths or champagne as we had been at other Secrets in Riveria Maya and then they were offered as we were leaving the front desk area. Our Apple Representative had no idea when our return car to the airport would be, we had to talk with another rep who wasn't there right then. It has always seemed like a well-oiled machine that we have enjoyed for a quick getaway. This was frustration from the beginning--even breakfast was a wait for coffee every day and when asking for cream we were given some flavor kind and we had to wait and ask again. So not even the wait staff seemed up to par. We told them we were there for our anniversary yet no anniversary banner was on the door like others--a little thing but one more lack of attention to detail. The speaker in the bathroom didn't work--always enjoy music as we get ready for the evening. Just not up to what we expect from a Secrets hotel from our other experiences!!!

It was overall an excellent trip. The only complaints that I have is that the hot water in the room never got hot. The concierge had someone work on it and it work tolerably for one evening, but the next day it again would not get comfortably warm. The other complaint that I have is that service and food at the French Restaurant was terrible. We waited over 30 minutes to be seated. When we finally got seated the waiter was very slow in bringing bread and taking our orders and then other people who came in after us were served their meals at least 10 minutes before us. We had good service at the Italian restaurant and Excellent service at the Japanese Restaurant. Additionally the breakfast buffet was excellent and the service at all bars were excellent. Overall the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The evening entertainment was okay, but nothing special.

We would like to first thank our Travel Agent for helping us make a decision. After all there are so many hotels to choose from in this area. There was construction going on but nothing that harmed the comfort of our stay. Check in process was smooth but we got passed off a few times to the internal salesman that were working us to look into a VIP timeshare investment which we did not know until the next day when we agreed to hear them out. I think this is something they wait to do until guests have completed their stay instead of when they first arrived. Other than that we loved the food, the bartenders, service staff, were so happy to help you with anything you needed. After a couple days I started tipping because I can't imagine working in that heat! Our room was beautiful and clean - probably the nicest room I have ever stayed in (so far in my life). We enjoyed the entertainment which we tried to attend nightly if it peaked our interest. The pools were clean and well maintained. The restaurants were far beyond my expectations of what an all inclusive resort offered. It felt like you were in a different place in each restaurant. The only thing we neglected was packing my husband PANTS for them so we had to sit outside due to dress code. Our flights were smooth nothing out of the ordinary. The transports were great in taking us to and from where we needed to go and got there safe. All in all we loved the resort and our stay at the Secrets Maroma.

Had a first class weekend at Secrets Maroma. The place, the food, the beach the service is all top shelf. The only negative is the hot tub operation. Tepid water and lack of jet action isn't at all invigorating. Absent that, everything else is first class

We stayed here in a room with a pool/bath on balcony, wow! Absolutely stunning room with a view. So many sun loungers and beds to choose from. Food is amazing! Service brilliant. Worth hiring the beach cabana for the day with butler service. Beach stunning and so clean. Beach bar great choice of drinks, waiter service brilliant. This hotel is top of my list and i have stayed in some wonderful hotels in my time. You will not be disappointed.Paying the extra for VIP package is well worth it, we were drinking top quality champagne every day. Staff all so friendly and welcoming and can't do enough for you. Such a lovely place

January 2018 Trip - Great experience

Had a great time at this resort! The food was fantastic, the activities were fun and not overbearing. The room was very clean and comfortable - loved being in building 26, 1st floor with the private swim out pool. Unfortunately, the pool heater wasn't working, so the pool was a little cold... but, still quaint. The beach was phenomenal and the service was impeccable. Marina and Benito were exceptionally friendly, fast and efficient servers. I balked at the spa massage prices when i got there (very high), but they were able to negotiate a deal - and I'm glad they did, because the deep tissue massage was great and the facilities are beautiful. The drinks had a little to be desired (the grey goose martini i ordered and saw poured was definitely NOT grey goose), but, they were free, so who's complaining... All in all a fantastic time. I would highly recommend this place.

Secrets Maroma was the BEST All-inclusive we've been to!

We spent 6 nights at Secrets Maroma in January and had the time of our lives with our fellow Traveling Vineyard incentive trip earners! Everything was first class. The food was amazing - loved how many options there were! The Japanese restaurant was our favorite! The service was warm, friendly and fast .... we spent the majority of our time at the main pool and beach and were consistently asked if we needed drinks or food. The amount of homemade Mexican food was amazing and super delicious. Even made from scratch corn tortillas! The temperature of the main pool was perfect - easy to just walk right in to, but not too warm so you felt refreshed in the sun. The beach was gorgeous, soft white sand and clear blue water. We also participated in a couple free water sports including kayaking. The grounds, pool area, our room, flora and fauna were all spectacular! We travel a lot and have been to many 5-star all-inclusives and this one was our favorite. I would highly recommend Secrets Maroma for anyone wanting a first class and FUN all-inclusive experience! THANK YOU!
