Welcome "Home"....We LOVE Secrets Huatulco

We spent our 6th week (January 31 - February 7, 2017) - as a couple. From the moment we arrived until we sadly had to leave – everything was PERFECT! Thank you Axel! Thank you for arranging everything for us…. you truly love and care about your guests. The hotel is absolutely spectacular - in its own bay! There are no other resorts in close proximity so there’s no requirement to wear wrist bands. Each and every amazing room has an ocean view. The rooms are modern, extremely clean and well air conditioned. The rooms have a glass partition between the toilet and bath/shower room which provides a wonderful open feeling but for some it may be a bit “exposing”; with some planning any awkward moments with your roommate can be averted...just open the closet door!! The five al la Carte restaurants provide exceptional menu choices and do not require reservations (with the exception of the Spice Restaurant). There may be a slight wait during peak times but a nice stroll helps to work up an appetite or wait with your buzzer in the Sports Bar. The French and Italian restaurant has an excellent culinary fair with outstanding service. Watch for the Captain Eden …a wonderful member of the restaurant staff who is always ready to help with your every need. Those who have a palate for fine wine or spirits ask Jorge the Wine Sommelier for suggestions…..he’s always ready for suggestions. The lunch buffets are outstanding – if you can’t find something to eat there – you may be too fussy. The room service is fast, hot and flavorful – highly recommended for those wanting a quiet night in the room or after a night of partying. The hotel, pool area and grounds are well maintained, contemporary, clean, and in immaculate condition. The pool bar is well stocked with top shelf spirits and the staff is very friendly and accommodating – Isaul and Ricardo are always ready with a smile and your special drink. They are both amazing and an asset to Secrets Huatulco. Salvador who was the pool side bartender did an amazing job of getting everyone their drinks quickly and truly loves what he does…no idea where he get the energy. The pool-side Entertainment group is a blast and keep the activities fun interesting – so energetic and personable! The hotel staff is friendly and always ready to make your holiday the best experience possible. We highly recommend the spa - the couples massage package is worth it! You’ll leave there totally relaxed and what an amazing view of the bay. The beach can get pretty hot – so bring beach shoes. The walk to the other bay is worth the trek – it’s like no one has ever been there and is great for a nice romantic stroll. The evenings are amazing – views and breezes in the Sky Bar are second to none. The music in the evenings is wonderful – dancing is spontaneous and romantic in this wonderful atmosphere. Jorge who plays guitar there is amazing. A true musical genius who will serenade you with your favourite love song or have to rocking and singing with the crowd. After an evening of wining, dining and dancing find your way around the grounds or to the beach to star gaze. All rooms have an ocean view so no rooms have a bad view. The housekeeping staff do an amazing job of cleaning the rooms never had any issues. We also love to burn the incense that they have in the room and sit on our deck or in the Jacuzzi with a glass of champagne. The city of La Crucecita is definitely worth the inexpensive cab ride. There are some exceptional restaurants and bars in the town – nice to spent an afternoon or evening there. The town is safe and clean. Wander the streets and lanes window shopping and people watching without been accosted by street peddlers – they simply don’t exist there. There are many excursions available, check in the main lobby – Marco is always ready to book you a memorable day off the resort. This hotel is absolutely stunning and has become our favorite in resort destination in Mexico – definitely worth every PESO or Dollar and more! Secrets Huatulco has the best staff they are always willing to go that extra mile to make sure you are happy and well taken care off. We love Secrets Huatulco and we definitely keep coming back because of the people. The first person we see upon or arrival and the last as we depart is Walter; a wonderful friendly representative for the Secrets Huatulco. The private transfer is a worthwhile luxury. We’re looking forward to seeing our “Secrets” Friends again on November 4-14, 2017 Ps….We graciously suggest to use Pesos as much as possible. Firstly it’s easier for gratuities as the recipient doesn’t have to exchange the bills. The US$ are getting difficult for them to exchange – any tiny mark or tear and they are not accepted at the bank. Very stringent rules have been implemented in Mexico regarding any damage to currency. The Mexican money is waterproof….what a get idea considering you may be in a pool sometime during the day!!!! Secondly, you don’t have a try to do the exchange rate in your head….you’ll always lose when you don’t pay in Pesos. And really, out of respect, we’re in their country let’s pay with their currency. You can exchange money at the Front Desk or use the ATM……so easy.

I love Secrets

This a quiet and secluded resort in Huatulco located in a bay by itself. Check in was smooth, food and drinks were good. I found the service good also, my only complaint was that I tried to use the outside jetted tub and bugs and spiders came out of it. I called the front desk and it was taken care of quickly but it was still gross. Those tubs need to be cleaned more often obviously. Entertainment was good, our favorite restaurants were Himitsu and Bordeaux for supper, and lunch was the Castaways for lunch. Pools are beautiful and we did snorkel one day where we did see quite a few fish. I love Secrets resorts as they are my go to resort when traveling to the Caribbean or Mexico.

Great Vacation

We celebrated our Anniversary here! The room and views are incredible! You are so spoiled and pampered! Cool towels as you check in and something to drink! Paulina at the front desk made check in/out a pleasure! Rosario took care of us from there and made sure if we wanted to do something it was booked for us! We really enjoyed everything but loved the Spa (especially the hydrotherapy)!! Everyone is so sweet and kind! Alejandra, the Hostess, greets you every meal with a huge smile! Candy from the Spa is exceptionally nice and very knowledgeable! Tour off the resort was great too, thanks to Enrique!! Everything is thought out to make you feel pampered and relaxed! Champagne & chocolate strawberries in our room! Roses on our bed! Just so thoughtful & luxurious!!! Even the bed was super comfortable! Best night sleep in a hotel, ever! We’ll be back!!!

Awesome! With some things to improve

Before our trip, my wife and I read many reviews on Trip Advisor. They helped us to better enjoy our trip. I hope this review help those who read it to have an incredible vacation as we did. The hotel has some issues to improve and make the stay of their guests even better. We stayed in mid-September for seven days. The hotel is amazing! One of the best all-inclusive hotels I have ever been to (my work requires me to travel to several hotels in many countries in the world). The room exceeded our expectations. We were in a normal room, (no jacuzzi on the terrace or mini-pool). All rooms have an amazing ocean view except some rooms that are at the large pool level. The mini bar in the room has soft drinks, artificial juices, bottled waters and Corona beers. Refilled daily, but you can leave a note asking for more of what you need (we never drank the sodas or juices, so we asked for more water). The bottles of water in the hotel is CIEL (good quality). The room has a very nice balcony. It has 2 chairs and a small table. You can be there for hours watching the view and listening to the sea. Our bed was a King Size bed (although it looked to me more like Queen size bed). There are also double-bedded rooms. The mattress and pillows are fine, not top of the notch. Under the bed we found dirt. The beds are very heavy, and I understand the difficulty of cleaning under them, but I had to move it to look for something I lost, and what I found was sand, bottle caps, and many other kinds of trash. The room has enough outlets (110v). They are well distributed throughout the room. Some of them have direct USB connection. The couch that lies next to the bed is very comfortable, big enough to sleep there; there’s a large coffee table, several drawers and enough space in the closet for clothes. The TV is about 32” with several channels, which we did not use during our stay, but it has a connection to HDMI and USB, in case anyone wants to connect a game console, or a memory stick to watch photos, videos or movies. There’s also a DVD player and you can borrow many movie titles with the Concierge. Among the gadgets, the room has an alarm clock to which you can connect an iPod and use it as a speaker. In the restroom, the toilet has a transparent door, which is a little bit unpleasant, as it is next to the safe and the closets. Sometimes you feel that there is no privacy. For amenities, you have very good quality shampoo, body gel, cream and conditioner. Also, you’ll find some cotton swabs and a mending kit. The shower is excellent! It has an incredible water pressure. Next to it, there’s a bathtub (jacuzzi style), spectacular! You can open the sliding door of the jacuzzi (which on the other side is the mirror next to your bed), and from there you can enjoy the view. Just put some shower gel provided to have a great bubble bath. There is also a door inside the closet that is used for the Room Service (that’s where they deliver your food tray). Excellent idea! You do not have to open the door of the room to receive your food, they just leave it there. Room cleaning is very good, is done every morning and at night. From time to time they decorate your bed, the table of the room and even the lavatories with petals. It’s a nice touch! If you do not want to be disturbed, you can turn on the red light (the switch is inside your room and the bulb outside) so that no one knocks at your door. The closet has some hanging hooks and a safe box in which to store things of value. Breakfast is usually at the World Cafe. A very good buffet with a variety of good quality food. There is a second option for breakfast at the Castaways, but it is usually by invitation (not everyone applies) and you must be willing to stay for 3 hours to hear a talk about the hotel and you know the rest. For lunch, you’ll go to the World Cafe for buffet or Castaways restaurant for a la carte food, where the view of the bay is very beautiful. Both the buffet and the Castaways are very good, but if you have been at the Castaways for several days, you may get bored with the menu. A third option for lunch is the Barefoot Grill, which is a Grill Bar & Restaurant located by the pool, but besides hamburgers and hotdogs, you will find chicken wings, pork ribs, ceviche, seafood cocktail, etc. all with very good flavor. Dinner is the next level ... In the hotel there are several themed restaurants for dinner, all excellent and you’ll not need a reservation, just go and you will be assigned a table. Each day there are only two or three open, depending on how many people they have. On our stay, we were able to try them all except the Mexican. However, we had a special Mexican dinner in the pool area in honor of the celebration of “15 de Septiembre”, which was amazing, the food delicious and the shows were fun! The restaurants for dinner are: Asian: Make the reservation as soon as possible with the Concierge for the Teppanyaki show (remember that if you go to the restaurant only a la carte, you do not need reservation). Maybe you’ll want to go twice, one to see the Teppanyaki show and the other to try the different dishes at the menu. French: Excellent! You can try may plates such as quail, duck, frog legs, etc. Italian: the cheese you get as antipasto along with the bread, vinegar and olive oil is spectacular. Oceana (sea specialties): Very good! Castaways (steak in the evenings): not the best to go several times. Mexican: We could not try it because it did not open all week. In breakfast, meal or dinner, if you do not want to leave your room, you can always ask Room Service which is included and is 24 hours (the menu is limited but good, and you’ll find it in the file folder in your room). You have the option of receiving your food in the secret door that’s inside the closet, you do not even have to open personally to receive it. Coco Cafe is an excellent concept within an all-inclusive hotel. It's like having a Starbucks included in your stay. There are sandwiches, all types of coffee drinks, teas, smoothies, etc. All delicious! They use BRITT coffee, an excellent quality brand. You can even buy half a kilo or a kilo of local coffee to take home. Remember that Mexican coffee is listed as one of the best in the world and buying some. In Coco Cafe there are computers with internet, couches and armchairs to enjoy your drink inside the air conditioning, or if you prefer, there are tables outside the cafe to enjoy it outdoors. You can even take your favorite drink to your favorite place of the hotel. You will find several bars in the hotel, the Skybar is a must, it is just down the lobby and has a breathtaking view of the bay. The Desires is a bar that has music to dance with a small dance track. There are many screens where they project football matches, soccer, boxing matches, or other depending on the season. The pool bar is fun, and the Lobby bar has a very good bartender. We were never able to go to Sugar Reef because it did not open all week, although we wanted to get to know it because of the incredible view it has. In general, in all the bars the drinks are of excellent quality. All the bottles are premium and the drinks very well prepared. There is an agreement between Secrets and Dreams hotels, which states that if you are hosted in Secrets, you can go visit the Dreams Hotel. Visiting hours are from 6:00 pm to 1:00 am and you can make use of the restaurants or bars. Even if you wanted to use other facilities like the pools or the gym, you could do it, but you would have to change clothes in the hotel bathrooms. The cost of transportation is covered by you, as the Secrets does not provide for it. A taxi in us $60 pesos to Dreams and another $60 pesos to go back to Secrets. In our experience, it was worth going, as we became acquainted with its beach, pools, gym, restaurants, bars, and its facilities in general. We had dinner in the Italian restaurant, we enjoyed the Coco Cafe and one of the bars. Considering that the Secrets is for adults only, the Dreams is a good choice for when you want to go with the kids. In fact, the Dreams have a tough competition in Huatulco: the Barceló or Las Brisas, but it is certainly an excellent option. Another conclusion that I find important with this experience, is that the Secrets has no comparison, is infinitely superior to all the other Resorts in Huatulco, both in facilities and service. The hotel has the concept of all inclusive (including tips), however, following recommendations from other guests through Trip Advisor, we took for a week, $ 2,000 pesos on $10 pesos coins, $20 pesos and $50 pesos bills. (We changed the big bills at a Mexican bank before the trip). The people, although they do not expect tip, always thank it with a big smile and thus we activate a bit more the Mexican economy: At breakfast we left between $ 20 and $ 30 ; at meals, we would leave between $ 20 and $ 30 ; if it was on the Castaways we would leave between $ 30 and $ 40 At dinner we usually left between $ 40 and $ 50 At Coco Cafe we always left $ 20 In the room, every morning we left $ 20 in bed and another $ 20 at the evenings. Also in the mini bar we left $ 20 pesos. It is next to the SPA, on the right side of the hotel, at the top of the hill. You have to climb a lot along the road or, also to get there you can ask someone in the lobby to take you by cart. The gym is small, with a spectacular view, very clean and well maintained. It has a universal machine, some dumbbells of different weights (up to 50lb), a bar with discs, some Russian dumbbells, mattresses, benches, treadmill machine, elliptical and bicycle. It has everything you need, it's a good gym. There is no instructor there, but there are always the people in charge who come in from time to time to clean, refill the water or to verify that everything is fine. Between 6 and 8am in the morning, you will find many people exercising (between 4 and 6 people), at other times you may find (between 1 and 2 people), but to know when it would be empty, it is a matter of trying. Normally it will be empty at meal times (from 1:00-3:00pm) Unfortunately, we could not go to the SPA, all the people that go there, say it is spectacular and that all treatments are top notch. However, the prices are a bit steep and in dollars. There might be an option to get a discount at the SPA. That is, being invited to the hotel marketing talks, which are usually at breakfast time at the Castaways restaurant. It lasts about 3 hours, and you’ll get some discount vouchers (different from the discount vouchers they give to everyone at check in at the reception). You can use those marketing vouchers at the SPA, for the shops inside the hotel, or for the Amstar activities tours. Beware of some of the staff in the hotel, they’ll chase you every day so you go to one of these talks. It got a little bit uncomfortable because my wife and I had to hid from them. That’s not the best experience. In the hotel there are some agencies like Amstar, Bestday or Xpert Tours, with which you can book a tour, either to visit the waterfalls, the village, the bays (land or sea), and more. We booked a tour to the 7 bays via the hotel's website. We assumed that when booking through the Secrets Huatulco webpage, the company that was going to attend us was Amstar, but it was not. When we arrived at the hotel, was through some calls and visits to the Concierge, which we learned that the provider was Xpert Tours. Some travel agencies give very poor service and what they care about is charging the money, not the quality of what they offer... In the Tour we did not visit 7 bays, but only 5. In spite of asking the captain, we went down to snorkel in a beach called El Organo (which is nice, but it is not the most famous La Entrega) and finally they tooked us to eat at playa el Maguey and we were seated into a restaurant called El Zarape. Very expensive! Terrible service. They gave us a menu with prices for tourists (they have another menu with regular prices) and the worst thing is that they offered mojarra, a fish that is not local, but they bring it frozen from other seas. Just ridiculous. In many cities of the country, we could find those plates at half the price and much more tasty. At the same time, Amstar charged us for airport transport a bunch of money, and later I learned that we could have had our transportation at less than half the price in a private car with the locals. I DO NOT recommend Xpert Tours. However, outside of those bad reviews, Huatulco has great people, delicious restaurants and reasonable prices. Just be very careful with the abusers. Also, all this made me wonder: Will it not be worth getting the tour with the local people? Of course, the hotel does not recommend it, the first argument is security (which may be important) but the main reason is the profits that the agencies would lose when you hire your tour directly with the locals. Just think about it! There is a jewelry store and another store where you can find a little bit of everything (in case you forgot something): bathing suit, shirts, shirts, guayaberas, sunglasses, cream, toothpaste, whatever you need! The prices are high, but not exorbitant. In fact, you can find some things at good prices. The best part of our trip were the activities. we participated in the different events of animation: Volleyball in the pool or beach, snorkel, kayak, paddle board, catamaran, visits to the botanical garden and more... Also karaoke, movies and live boxing match at the Sky Bar. The people of animation always cheerful and giving their best effort. Where is the best place to snorkel in the hotel? the first time you do snorkeling, do it as part of the activity, where they explain everything there is to know and show you the reef and its species. Want to kayak? Do it first as the activity along the animation staff. They’ll explain everything to you. What's in the hotel's botanical garden? In the scheduled activity, the staff will explain the different species of plants and birds and all the care and attention they need. We could not attend the shows at the theater, but we watched one day the actors rehearse. They are first class performers. We found imprecision in the information that the hotel gives in the different areas. On the website you’ll find certain information thatcontradicts the one in the folder in the rooms, which, is different than what you’ll find in the AMResorts cellphone app, which also varies with respect to what it says in the activities TV channel (which is the only reliable source of information about the hotel). Examples: You can find on the webpage of the hotel, that there are bicycle tours, which is false. In the folder of the room you’ll see that connecting to the internet has an additional cost, also false information. In the app, you may find that at 5:00 pm on Tuesday there would be trampoline activity, which was not true. Also says that there are certain restaurants open for dinner, but the channel of activities on TV says they are closed and others are the ones that really opened... And so, we could continue with the examples... The hotel needs to homogenize all sources of information or, in a given case, reduce them, and just stay with only the reliable ones. The beach is nice and pretty large in extension. The sand is a bit rough and very hot. Wear water shoes or flip-flops. In earlier weeks, some big waves took a lot of trash to the beach and it was a bit dirty, but most of the trash came from nature. The sea and beach in general are breathtakingly clean. Huatulco is characterized by having a very clean sea and beaches. There are some palapas (they are like shelters roofed with palm leaves) with reclining chairs so you can enjoy the shade and the sea. We always found a beautiful spot to be in. The sea is suitable for swimming, we thought that we wouldn’t be able to do it, because of some comments in Trip Advisor, but you can swim in the sea, we did it daily. We had red flag the whole week, that is, danger, but we were still able to swim without problems, as well as snorkeling, kayaking and getting on the catamaran. The paddle board was very difficult at sea, so we did it at the pool, which is huge and perfect for doing so. The best place to swim is the left side of the beach. There, the rocks cover the waves and the water is calm. The sea water is warm in September. We were told by the lifeguard that in November and December cold currents begin to arrive, but still the water is good for swimming on those months. With the cool currents whales and dolphins arrive. Something sad, the coral is dying. Probably because of the high temperature of the waters. You can see a lot of dead coral, and may parts of the coral reef are whitening or muddy (dying). It is very sad. There is a little path on the left side (looking towards the sea) from the hotel beach, which leads you to another beach across the mountain. It is nice and worth visiting, but take mosquito repellent while you walk there. The little town called la Crucecita is worth visiting. It’s pretty, safe and has many restaurants, clothing stores, crafts and souvenirs, cafes, lots of day life and lots of tradition. Taxi costs $ 70 pesos one way trip. Guadalupe chapel has a very impressive fresco of the Virgin of Guadalupe on the ceiling. The painting is huge and it has many details worthy of a fine artist. The chapel of La Crucecita also has its folklore and is next to the sea. There is a legend about the little cross that it has and it is very worth to know it. If you want to attend a Catholic Mass, investigate the schedules with the taxi drivers of the hotel. We went to the Concierge and were told that at 12:30 there was Mass in Guadalupe. The taxi driver who took us there, warned us that the Mass was not taking place in Guadalupe, but in the other chapel. We followed the Concierge indication and stayed at Guadalupe, however, the taxi driver was right, and the Mass was in the Crucecita. We had to take another cab that charged us $30 pesos to go from Guadalupe to la Crucecita. Taxis are safe and friendly. Some of them will speak English. To request a taxi simply go to the lobby and any person on the staff will call one for you. On any trip, always the best thing are the people. They are the ones that make you feel in heaven or a real purgatory. The hotel, in general has an excellent service to guests. However, there are people who especially deserve a “thank you”. They were the ones who made our trip even more special. Mardeli, always attentive and with a smile, served us with excellence, taking our drinks to the beach. As her name says, it made our daily stay at the sea a delight (mar=sea and deli=delicious, delightful). The activities staff: Vladimir, Nancy, Dulce, Carlos, Adal, Marco: Thank you! You made our trip very special. It would never have been the same without you. The lifeguard of the afternoon, I think his name is Miguel. It is an honor to talk with him and learn about the sea and many things about Huatulco. Austraeberto served us as a waiter in French. What a great person! There were many more people we would like to congratulate, but the ones we mentioned are really special. This is an excellent hotel at a reasonable price. Huatulco is an incredible place and is still one of the few special places in Mexico in which there is no tourist overexploitation (not yet). The Secrets by far is the best hotel in Huatulco and one of the best in the Mexican Pacific. I hope to be able to return soon, and hopefully we can be at any other Secrets (I would like to go to Cozumel soon).

If you are looking for a pretty, quiet and secluded place this is it . Very safe part of mexico including the town which is 15 minutes away by $5 Taxi, airport is 20 minutes away , the hotel has all of the typical secrets amenities which are great. Not sure if preffered club is worth it for this hotel unless you like mini bar drinks . The preferred lounge is very small , and no separate beach cabanas. Typical pacific Coast beach and sand (both rough)but the beach is worth every penny for the views This is a luxury hotel for locals of mexico and is not a very touristy place for USA a lot of people speak English but many do not .this place is for peace and tranquility. Definitely visit the spa it is amazing especially the hydrotherapy and the fish pedicure!!!
