WE LOVED HUATULCO AND THIS RESORT. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The views are incredible. And the food is great. I’ll break it down into sections - pool, ocean, entertainment, food, downtown. Pool - There are 2 to choose from. The quiet pool (right) is very relaxing with great views of the ocean. The party pool has a swim up bar and a volleyball net. They do yoga/workouts here in the mornings. Ocean - The water was pretty rough and the sand is HOT. There’s a calmer spot all the way to the left of the bay. This is a great spot to snorkel. It’s calmer in the morning. There’s a trail that leads to another beach. The water was too rough to swim in, but we were usually the only ones on the beach. Entertainment - You can rent equipment for free in the beach. We rented kayaks, snorkels, and paddle board. The guys are very friendly and helpful. They really go above and beyond, especially Alejandro. They do beach volleyball as well. There was a beach party one day where the resort set up dinner on the beach. My favorite part of the trip was a boat tour. A man named Tomas approached us on the beach. We were going to do the catamaran through the resort, but we’re so glad we took a tour with a local instead. We caught 14 fish, took a tour of the bays, and snorkeled on Lantrega Beach. The water is crystal clear and there are tons of fish over a large reef. Thomas guided us to the good spots and into a cave. If you do any activity on your trip- take this guy. You get a private boat for 6 hours. I think we paid between $200-250 (+tip). Food - Our favorites were the Japanese and Italian Restaurants. The manager of the Japanese Restaurant, Nemorio, went above and beyond. His hospitality was phenomenal and the food was great. The Italian place was great as well. Get the lasagna! Castaways was good, but the mosquitos were unbearable. The food at the market cafe was good, but the service was really hit or miss. Bring your own drinks. The Mexican place was really good , as was the French Restaurant. We weren’t very impressed with Oceana. Downtown - The area was very cute and clean. The shops were nice. They do not swarm you like most places in Mexico. There’s a language barrier as most of the locals only speak Spanish. The Mezcal was great!

Resort is a hidden gem very romantic and felt like we were on an island by ourselves. Not that many people know about this place apparently because it was not crowded at all. I think they should speak more English for the none Spanish speakers. The buffet could have been better food selections. However, I found something I was able to eat each time.

Old style mexican feel.

There were 8 people in our group that went on this vacation. We stayed at Secrets and had a great trip! The resort has a private feel to it on its own bay. All of the rooms face the ocean which is nice so there isn't a 'bad' location for any of the rooms. This is more of a quieter resort so not a ton of entertainment or activities going on by the pool area throughout the day.. but since there were 8 of us in our group, we were okay with that. We really enjoyed the Asian restaurant as well as the French restaurant. The best advice is to bring lots of bug spray!! We were eaten alive by the mosquitoes. We also enjoyed our visit to the spa and took advantage of their sauna, steam room and hydro pool area.

Great Resort, Beautiful Views!

My husband and I just returned from our week long stay (June 16th-23rd). I read extensive reviews before going so that we knew what to expect which made us well prepared. The resort felt completely empty which made a very relaxing vacation for us. Often times we were the only people at the pool, on the beach and sometimes alongside only a few other couples at dinner. We really enjoyed feeling like we had the entire resort to ourselves. What we liked/highlights: bar service at the sky bar and the lobby bar were fantastic. The property was always kept extremely clean. The view from anywhere on the resort was breathtaking! Room service was phenomenal and saved our vacation (the private box that they deliver your food to was really nice to have that kind of privacy)! The food always came within a half an hour and was always very warm. Service at the restaurants at dinner was fast and friendly. The presentation of the food was always very impressive. Food highlights included breakfast and the vegetable panache from room service, steak, onion rolls and French onion soup at Bordeaux, Minestrone soup and fresh pasta at Cin Cin, and the Mexican Dinner Buffet which offered a variety of options (even though the family style seating was strange). Pools were huge and a lot of options for beach chairs. We preferred the “quieter” pool farthest from the swim up bar simply because of the views. Evangelina, a server at the pool was fantastic! She was very friendly and attentive! Anytime I had a question about the resort I just sent them a message on Facebook and they were very helpful and quick to respond. Not having wristbands to wear was really nice. We also liked that you didn’t have to worry about towel cards. Medical services (even though I wish we didn’t have to use them) were very good. Our room was always kept very clean and turndown service was also really nice. We never had to wait long to get our room cleaned in the morning, they seemed to be really on top of it. Turning the red light on that’s by the door was a nice way of have a “do not disturb” without having to hang something on the outside of the door. We enjoyed both the indoor ping pong table located at the back of the theater, and the outdoor ping pong table located in front of the far left side of the pool. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and gave us a private tequila and mezcal tasting which was very informative. Upon arrival we had a happy anniversary sign on our door and cookies and champagne in the room. This was a really nice gesture. Another night during the week, they surprised us with another bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room service box which was unexpected and appreciated. They even offered to set up a private breakfast in our room on the patio the next morning. The beach was beautiful! Not an ounce of seaweed or trash in sight. What we disliked: Bar service at the pool was hit and miss. One time I asked for Stoli vodka and the bartender turned the bottle around and said that they only had Smirnoff. Not a huge deal, but very odd. It seemed like they were a bit secretive with what they had to offer. One night the power went out completely for a half and hour and then turned on and off for another half an hour. Although this disrupted our sleep, the most concerning factor was that there were no emergency lights, not even in the hallways (a little scary had there been an emergency). Breakfast buffet was very loud and service wasn’t always great (we preferred room service for breakfast). We are not vegetarians, but also do not eat a lot of meat. There really aren’t any vegetarian options aside from pasta at Cin Cin. Although the food was good, we had a rocky start to our vacation that we think ended up being food poisoning. On our first full day at the resort my husband got very sick. Violently vomiting the entire day, so bad that we had to call the doctor and have him come to our room. The next day I wasn’t feeling well either. We ended up losing a day and a half of our vacation which was disappointing. We think we got sick from eating fish at the Spice restaurant. We spoke to another couple and the same thing happened to her husband and they ate at a different restaurant, Oceana, but he had Salmon and also got really sick. Didn’t have much of an appetite the rest of the week, but tried to stick to very small portions and share what we could. The last day there we noticed what looked like health inspectors around the buffet area taking pictures and temperatures of food so we were wondering if there were even more people that may have been sick from the food. Even though we still had a beautiful view (building 3, first floor), I would not pay extra for the Jacuzzi because of the bugs and the obstructed view. I think it’s odd that the upgraded rooms have the worst views. The entertainment wasn’t very great but they tried. The pools were relatively clean, but would have been better if they had someone removing bugs and bird poop from the water a few times a day. Tips: Water shoes are a must if you plan on walking on the beach. Long sleeve water shirts were a huge lifesaver that allowed us to stay out in the sun much longer. It isn’t mentioned anywhere, but you can get drinks delivered as a part of room service (we didn’t find this out until the end of the week). You can also bring insulated mugs that they will make your drinks in which makes them stay colder much longer. We weren’t a huge fan of the clear/frosted glass toilet area so I made a little cloth covering out of fabric and suction cups (this made us feel a lot more comfortable). Take time to visit the hidden/private beach to the left of the beach that is within viewing from the resort. Make sure to bring bug spray and those water shoes for the walk over (which is about 10 minutes), but the payoff is beautiful! The path is located just to the left of the little white house that you will see. They offered a treatment at the spa in the temazcal, which is a type of sweat lodge that is included at no additional charge, but we didn’t find out about it until the end of the week otherwise I think we would have tried it. We tipped pretty generously and it didn’t seem to make a difference in service one way or another. They don’t offer straws for your beverages (which is a pretty amazing feature for helping eliminate waste and save the environment), but if you are particular about that I would recommend bringing a reusable one of your own.

Nice resort.

A couple of days ago, we came back from our week-long vacation at Secrets Huatulco. It was one of our best summer vacations. All services were excellent. Oceanfront rooms were cleaned 3 times a day and stacked daily with candy, chips, beverages, beer, and mini bottles of red Johnnie Walker and rum Bacardi. Food was very good at a la carte restaurants. We would like to recognize outstanding services of our waiters: Angel and Austreberto and swimup bar's bartender- Rigoberto. We also liked greeter girl with wonderful smile at Market Cafe and hospitality of its Manager (sorry for not remembering names). Great entertainment was provided by the pool by the entertainment team: Jorge, Fernando, Arturo, Sandra -and the best- Roberto. We really enjoyed our stay and will probably be back in the future.
