This Secrets hotel has fabulous views of the ocean from most of the higher elevation rooms. Every room expect for a few suites are the same set up in side, the balcony or patios are the only differences, you may have a small balcony big enough for 2 small chairs or you may have a patio with a tub or you may have a patio with access to a pool swim-up. Lots of folks were using the swim up pools, rarely did we see anyone use the whirlpool tub, they are not private at all. The hotel is spotless and well maintained. The beds are standard beds, no luxury pillow tops here. The food was good in all the restaurants and the buffet, but since we traveled with a group of 7 of us they struggled to get our dinner meals to us hot. Every dinner (it did not matter which restaurant) I had served to me was warm at best and if I sent it back, they just reheat the food and bring it back out dried out and hot. I expect better from a Secrets resort. Also the house wine was less than good. The only wine I found drinkable was the Chardonnay. Also, the drinks during the day down by the pool seemed to be lacking alcohol. I usually feel a drink or 2 and nothing no matter the number of drinks. Only when my husband ordered his special rum and coke then those came with plenty of rum. Do not get me wrong the food was good. We specially liked the Castaways for a sit down lunch, always great food, service and served hot as appropriate. The manager of this restaurant is very engaged and really looked after all his guests. The buffet for lunch was very good and the grill they have at the buffet is excellent. I ate more at lunch each day then I did at any dinner. The dinner at the Spice Asian restaurant was the only hot dinner I had. It was good, as we reserved for our group to sit at the cooking table. Make sure you have pants and a collared shirt for dinners or you will be waiting for a table outside and that could be a while as they only have a few tables outside for each restaurant. To eat in the restaurants for dinner men must have pants and a collared shirt. The Thanksgiving buffet they did for the American guests was very good, nothing like being a Canadian and getting a bonus Thanksgiving dinner in Nov with all the fixings. The turkey was excellent. Hats off to the chefs. If you get the chance to have the custom made pizza down by the pool grill, that pizza was outstanding, it is only at night they make it. Very thin puffy crust extraordinary to say the least. A must have. The ocean was fabulous no weeds and 85F, not too rough to swim in, we were in at least an hour a day and the pools are kept clean. Watch for the sand fleas on the beach wear bug spray if you do not want to get bitten and if you get bites do not scratch them, you will make them 100x worse. The sand on the beach is a little course, but we did not have to wear our water shoes. We saw no mosquitoes our entire trip, they fog and spray for them. Make sure you take the 2 min path at the end of the beach to the south over to the other cove, very beautiful and undisturbed. The 3 girls in our group did a hydro therapy and massage treatment. The hydro therapy was awesome and the massage was fine. I had the deep tissue massage and the lady I had did not speak English well, so it was hard to communicate my issues. It was fine, I would not pay their listed prices for a massage. We got ours for half price and one of our husbands negotiated the deal. You have beer, juice, soda and 2 small bottles of water in your room mini fridge. We had to ask each day for more water. You have to drink lots of water here, 3-4 bottles per day at minimum to keep hydrated. All the bars have bottled water. I must say the staff here as part of the activity center were fun. A special thanks to Omar, Naftalie(Sp?) and Dolce they certainly keep us entertained. Thanks to Naftalie for helping my husband improve his sailing skills, he truly appreciated the lessons. The nightly shows were the typical dance shows, not our style, but the entertainment at the sky bar most evenings was excellent. The gentleman who plays his guitar Fri and Sat . is excellent we really enjoyed his music. We have been to Mexico many times and always stay at higher end all inclusive resorts, this one was good. We had a great time with our friends and we felt we got good value for what we paid. The weather as usual for the middle of November you cannot beat the west coast of Mexico, 7 days straight of not a cloud in the sky, 85F+ every day.

simply amazing

First off this was a trip with family for my 50th birthday,I am also writing this now as a travel agent which I just passed my certification. In a few words this resort is everything anybody would want from a vacation.Location,Food,Drinks,Rooms,Pool,Beach, and most of all some of the best Service I have received in over 30 years of travelling the world.Every room is oceanview, every room is spotless and spacious.Food is always subjective and some travelers have different expectations, for me I enjoyed every meal and had no complaints.this resort is quiet and secluded and caters to a high end clientele.Ages between 35 ish to 60 ish.The roads and area around the resort were spotless, manicured lawns, shrubs and beautiful colors. The town of Crucecita is very clean, and safe.Taxi into town was 70 Pesos . Couple of tips: 1-not really a resort if you have mobility limitations as it is set on a hillside 2-no buffet restaurants for dinner,ok for me as I like to dress up and like the a la cartes 3-they did enforce a tank top policy for men which I really appreciate 4-rented a yacht, yes a yacht for the day, contact me for details 5-take bug spray as bit by "no c mes" Do not hesitate to book this resort, and I know who can help you book it !!! Thanks Secrets as you now have a customer for life

I visited Secrets for the 4th time from Nov 15-22. Obviously I really enjoy this hotel hence the return visits. Everything in the hotel meets expectations every year. The staff, restaurants, room, and activities are all excellent. The only complaint I have is regarding people playing thier own music around the pool and people saving chairs. My first year at Secrets it seemed like staff would tell people to not play music around the pool and would remove towells from chairs if people were not using them. There are signs up but without the staff there to remind people it seems like the rules are not followed. This is really only a minor inconvienience and would not stop me from vacationing here again but never the less it does prevent me from rating this hotel higher.

This was our 5th time returning to this piece of Heaven on Earth, it is so beautiful, and the people are so welcoming, it is impossible to even contemplate going elsewhere on a vacation, the ambiance, the service, the food, the weather is always the absolute best and could not ask for more! We were celebrating my Birthday this trip around and the team in Concierge went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and as part of the Family, from the Door banner " repeat guest" ( which should be changed to returning Family )and " happy birthday", the in room bottle of Champagne, flowers on the bed, to the Birthday cake in my room on the special day, it was excellent! Thanks to / Teresa Marco / Luis Hurtado & special thanks to Miguel Huerta Urgiel other wise known as Micky! He booked some special dinners for me and my special lady ( wife ). The resort this time was very clean, organized and running like a swiss watch as in the past experiences, the team at the bar out side building 6 were sharp and attentive with their service, special kudos to our main newest server Karen, always quick with a smile and a cold Iceberg when needed, it was especially nice to see servers Jose Luis, Salvador (Shava ) from the bar as well, they were quick to come over and welcome us upon arrival, what great memories they have! You will not be disappointed with your time here, only when you have to leave...

Trip #3 .Keeps getting better

Started with a Sunwing flight from Victoria with stop in Vancouver but non-stop on the way back. Small Huatulco airport again a breeze compared to others. Greeted with a 42 peso cold beer and on the big bus to Secrets with one stop at Dreams. Requested block 5 and got it. As long as not preferred you will have a great view in any block.Check in with easy with a cold cloth and a cold corona. Luggage to room right away. Again, ocean and pool view while lying on my bed or having a rainfall shower. Resort was less than 50 % capacity then a convention came in for the Revolution Day holiday weekend but quiet again Sunday morning when they left. Again would see 100 front row empty chairs around the pools around 10:00am. Many times the whole week there were only a couple people in the 2 upper pools before lunch. I still wish they would not have unlimited towels as people put towels down and then forgot about them. Only saw a few low lives early in the morning watching from my balcony putting towels around the pool then going down to the beach and do the same thing. Then leave and come back later. Low lives that think they own the place. The weather was as usual spectacular and the beaches were the calmest I've ever scene it the week of Nov.17th. I would go in for at least an hour at a time. Even at Playa Magueyito beach I would be in for over an hour at a time with only 3 people on the whole beach. There was always a few people every day from one end of Conejos beach to the other and I was in before 8:00 am just to cool off. Felt like a hot tub. Even in the non heated pools before 8:00 am. I always put a bit of bug spray on early in the morning for walks and was never bitten once. People were snorkeling, paddle boarding, sailing and kayaking from the shore. All free of course .I took a free kayak tour over to Playa Punta Arena and Playa Arena beach. Just beautiful walking the deserted beach. Saw a turtle nesting area and fresh tracks. I also went over to Playa La Bocana down the road for a beer at Los Gueros and saw a few people surfing and one guy catch a large fish with a net a few meters from the shore diving into the waves. Pretty neat. The tide was in quite a bit so not much beach. They were however doing some work on a new retaining wall so it was a bit noisy at times. Tried the room service at 22:30 after a late night tour to Puerto Escondido. It was amazing and took about 40 minutes. Tried it again after a day of way too much drinking and sun, and more eating at around 17:30 and it took about 25 minutes. Full course meal. Soup, salad, appies, chicken, steak, dessert. Very impressed. Also includes recommended choices of wine. All food was great. The main buffet was not open for dinner which is a good thing but they had a Mexican buffet on Friday in the theatre and another in the courtyard on Saturday but missed that one because of the late night tour to P.E., and sometimes there was fire oven pizza at the Barefoot Grill.. About 16 different pizza choices. Tried the Octopus and seafood pizza. Bearfoot Grill had great buffalo wings, ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and chips with guacamole and salsa as well as the regular burgers and hot dogs. Castaways as usual had amazing service and ala carte food for lunch and some of the best views anywhere. Had to eat at Bordeaux twice. Roasted duck, frog legs and quail. Had one of the best filet mignon ever at Oceana restaurant. Tamarindo once for dinner but was also great for breakfast. One of my favorite places is Coco's Café. Try the Green Monster. A nice place to escape the heat as well as Desires bar .Hockey was on every night. Sugar Reef was open a few nights and had a rock band one night. Always someone singing or playing music at the Sky Bar. Still cannot believe all the Canadians that bring US money. DO NOT BRING AMERICAN MONEY!. EVER! Bring pesos. My small town bank gives me pesos in 3 days in any denominations to get me started. Can't remember the place of the dinner in town but when one of us Canadians in our group pulled out American money the owner asked him not to use it and that there was an ATM machine around the corner. Did the 7 bay tour again as I just love being out on the water. Saw lots of dolphins and snorkeling was amazing. Snorkel to a pristine private beach with nothing around and someone comes by and hands you a cold beer as you sit in the warm ocean. Nice shrimp lunch later at El Costeno at Maguey Bay. Lots of people on the beach for the holiday having loads of fun. Next time I think I'll try the 7 bay tour on jet ski. Talking to people who loved it as you were able to go places closer to the shore. They said 100 dollars for 3 hours. A new tour I took was an evening turtle release tour to Puerto Escondido. A beach to the north that went on forever to grab a couple of baby turtles each and help them on there way into the sunset. It was crazy busy with a surfing championship going on and boats were everywhere. The town was packed with wall to wall people. Everyone looked under 25, lol. Still lots of fun and we had dinner at a place on the beach. Sorry can't remember the name but was owned by a guy from ,you guessed it, Tofino. Cold 25 peso beer, 200 peso dinner right on the beach. Wonderful. Going back for sure. They are thinking of also having the tour it a bit earlier with lunch first. Now back to Secrets Resort, I was impressed by all the people that remembered me from my last time there in May. Drink service was non stop where ever I went. Great food, great people. No fat guys in speedos and all pamphlets and brochures in Spanish and English only ! The views are spectacular wherever you go. The restaurants, the bars, your room, the spa, the weight room all with beach, ocean and pool views. The whole area is super clean and always the hottest weather. I'm almost afraid of telling people about this place. When I say I went to Huatulco almost everyone says the same thing. "Where is that?" The best answer anyone could give. Can't wait to return.
