Beyond Excellent service/Hotel needs some repairs

We had a lot of rain on our trip and our hotel room ceiling/wall leaked. When we told the front desk, the concierge was super helpful. They upgraded us to the Honeymoon Suite for the remainder of our stay. All of the staff was welcoming and helpful.

Horrible Experience

Jun 12 2018
Our honeymoon started with a call to Apple Vacations where we booked our trip. I spoke with an Apple rep who was very aware that this was our honeymoon; however, either didn't pass on to the hotel or hotel didn't do anything with that information. Upon check in, we were told that we had a room with 2 double beds...we said this was not acceptable and were told that we can upgrade to an ocean view for $70/night. When we said this wasn't an option, we were told that the next day, there was a king bed, jungle view available for no charge. Our 1st room was on the 1st floor and as soon as the door was opened, you could smell the mildew/musk and it was strong. We took a shower and there must have been a pipe that leaked on the other side of the bathroom as there was a huge puddle of water. The next day, we went to the pool as we needed to check out of our current room and into our new room. The pool is in need of desperate assistance. It has several missing tiles, loose tiles, etc. After checking with hotel staff on our new room 3 different times, our new room was available. The 2nd room was on the 4th floor and while it smelled a lot better, our "jungle" view was the rooftop and the top 1/3 of the palm trees. We signed up for the "free" shopping trip to Playa Del Carmen not knowing that they 1st take you to a jewelry store for 45 min and then to a tequila factory for 30 min before going shopping, not worth your time to do this! Very pushy salesman in both places and very expensive. We were able to attend 2 different shows while there, a country show which was very good and a show with 50's, 60's and 70's music, that was pure torture. During the 2nd show, the ceiling of the event center, literally started to fall in pretty big chunks. We went back to our room for the night only to discover we had a leak from the ceiling running down the wall so maintenance and room service was in our room at 10 pm fixing that. Now on to the food, it was not good. For breakfast, we did the buffet and that was average at best. The restaurant at pool side was good, just not a lot of choices but the ultimate worse was Oceanside. The mac and cheese, no words to describe how awful it was, the sautéed mushrooms came cold. We did order a burger via room service and that was good but everything else was below average. I was very disappointed in this resort and have no reason to return or go to any other Secrets resort for that matter. This resort needs major updates!

Better choices for a Hotel

Had to ask for in-room coffee supplies on day of check-in, and a couple of times after. No ceiling fan; its either AC or bake. Room leaked, badly, from balcony above. Zero privacy on balcony. Italian restaurant, Portofino: NO WINE BY THE GLASS. You had to by a bottle, which is fine, but the mark up was outrageous. A $9.00 bottle at Costco, was on the menu for $65.00!!!

I was shocked at how so many people were trying to upcharge us something. Like reserve a table for a show, you must buy a bottle of wine for $ 100 that I could buy for $ 10. This was from the waiters at various restaurants. And waiting for the bus, we were solicited to take a tour of another Capri resort. I was in Cancun for less than 1/2 hour and was not even at the hotel. Once at the Capri, we were approached numerous times to take the tour at the other Capri. There are too many people trying to sell you extra things.

We had a great time, staff was wonderful especially Christian, Julio, Oscar, Theresa, and Orlando. The only complaint we had is upon arrival we do not like being questioned and having excursions or timeshare stuffed pushed on us. It is a turnoff and if we wanted to do something we would have contacted them, but otherwise we don't want to be bothered.

Everything we read was accurate. Everything felt so casual and relaxed. Every employee had a smile on their face and was so friendly and willing to help. The beach was great overall, but we happened to be there during kelp/seaweed season. Not a big deal, as they were very attentive to make sure it was as clean as possible it just would have been nice to have not had to step over it. The food was also as described: not the best, but it was good. The restaurants were surprisingly disappointing, as the best food we had was surprisingly at the buffet. All of the drinks were served very fast, but we couldn't seem to get really inebriated no matter how hard we tried. But this place was such a beautiful and we'll kept place that all of the downfalls are completely overlooked.

We stayed at Secrets Maroma previously and this was horrendous in comparison to Maroma and Now Saphire. The food was very poor quality and under cooked. Had to ask multiple times to have something actually cooked how it is supposed to be. Food selection was poor. Portofino was good! Check in was abysmal as we weren't listed and they would give us a king bed without a long fight when they had a few available. This is a brief description of a very poor quality vacation. We were very disappointed as we have had great food and experiences at other Apple resorts.

I really wanted to love this resort. It's really pretty, it's smaller - which I liked - and the staff seemed far more genuinely friendly than at the other Secrets I've stayed at (this is my 6th). BUT...there are a lot of maintenance issues. Our toilet didn't flush properly for the first 5 days we were there even after someone came up and worked on it for about an hour. My friend's room had a lot of leaks from the heavy rains we experienced the first two days of our stay. The whole hotel had a lot of leaks from the rains and the staff couldn't keep up.It's missing two of the restaurants most of the other Secrets have - Le Patio (really, no Mexican restaurant at a Mexican resort?), and Bordeaux. Pool service was spotty and slow. The food at the restaurants was very good and the guacamole at the pool was excellent. There are just too many issues at this Secrets for me to return. Sorry!

Resort was very clean and well maintained. Staff was very efficient and could not do enough for you. My only complaint is that when we ate at the buffet (2 times) during our stay the food was cold, for some reason it could not be kept hot after it was out there for a while. Food in the restaurants was very good, small portions but you just had to order an extra appetizer or salad.

Great Vacation
Julie G,

The Secrets Capri was wonderful. We enjoyed every minute of our vacation at this resort. The only downfall was the beach with the seaweed. The resort was busy daily trying to remove the seaweed but it would come in as fast as they could remove it. They had said the storms had brought in a lot of it. None the less, we still enjoyed the beach area, beach service and the various water sports that were available at the resort such as kayaking, etc. The rooms were very clean and the housekeeping staff were on top of it daily. We had great turn down service, which was a plus. Any issues we had in the room, such as the air conditioning, they came and took care of it right away. We had a concierge on our floor and they were a great help. We were celebrating our anniversary when we went and they offered us a free day bed at the pool, put a sign on our door and also had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries delivered one of the evenings. A really nice touch we felt. The entertainment staff and activities that were offered both daily and in the evenings was outstanding. This resort was by far the best in entertainment in regards to places we have stayed. They do want you to listen to a presentation for a vacation club, which we were not interested in. When we said that we weren't interested they seemed put out by this, and we then felt somewhat dismissed. The food was tasty and we had great service. The resort also did other nice little touches such as a dessert bar with many different types of desserts and concierge coming to the beach area to check on guests. A shout out to Christian our concierge and Roberto out beach waiter and the rest of the Secrets Capri Staff for taking such great care of us during our stay!!

Arrived late around 11pm not offered a drink on checking in but the bars where still open ?? Room Ok but smelt fusty on the first day. All the food we had was good but are still having stomach problems and we have been home a week. This hotel needs a lot of maintenance work and soon, the pool tiles are coming off I cut my toe quiet badly. There are certain area's that need new decoration and new curtains at least. You have to pay 70 dollars for a cabana on the beach an 40 dollars for one round the pool I thought this was all Inclusive ?? The drink was good all top brands I cannot complain about the service apart from the last night when we ate In the Italian and was served by the worst waiter ever Pedro If that has been our first meal there we would never have gone again. I don't feel it is right to be asked to pay 65 dollars for a cheap bottle of wine to get a table to see the shows yet again is this really all Inclusive ?? In all we enjoyed the stay would I go back yes If the Problems I have have raised are addressed and stop the pestering timeshare but I don't think this will happen.

Where to start? This visit was full of ups and extreme downs. The arrival was great, we had to wait, however I saw a team member who was more than willing to get us drinks while we waited. The check in process was great and we even got a break down of all the hotel had to offer. I was so ready for a great stay. It was our anniversary and they remembered my banner which no other Secrets has been able to do. There was champagne chilled in the room and the room was clean visually. The air conditioning in our first room was amazing (room 252). Then the rest of our trip….. On our way to our room we met the concierge and she adv she would be there to help us with our stay. I was excited. We paid extra for priority club like the other locations when we arrived we were informed there is NO PRIORITY CLUB – not sure what we paid for….. The concierge was not pushy and offered the spa and I adv we had a conf cabana reservation and she adv she could get that set up the concierge was gone for the day at 5pm. I could get it tomorrow? I advised I would hold off not sure how I felt about that as I have conf for a week starting that day. There was a lot ofThe room was nice, my husband drew me a bath when I got in my butt did not fit in the tub I could not get down in the water (I am plus size I wear a size 18 jean). I was so disappointed the tubs look so big online but they tapper at the bottom to about 10 inches wide. I went to the front and asked about upgrades. There are only 3 room types with larger Jacuzzi 's and they cost a ton. I wanted a Jacuzzi for my stay so we upgraded for the last 2 days it was not available for the other 5. We stayed in the Honeymoon ocean front suite (when available) and that room WOW. (you pay for it). The communal areas are hot and there are mosquitos everywhere (open air concept). The restaurants are air conditioned but not pleasant and the food is ok at best. I did get really sick the third and fourth days with no prior conditions. Take from that what you will I am still not feeling 100% in my gut a week later. The canbanas are nice and the service was great but we tipped everyone (bring your ones). We lost power multiple times for 3 of the 4 days didn’t really affect us much.

Loved it all just used to bigger resorts and seaweed on the beach (which they work very hard to reduce. For the price you can’t beat it. Food is great but a little older crowd and no music in the day near pool but they make up for it with everything else. Room service was the best!!!

We arrived to a warm welcome with a glass of bubbles and a cooling face cloth, our bags were taken directly to our room whilst we checked in. Beware the sales and marketing team who will want to book you into a sales session and reward you with money off vouchers. Otherwise this is a great resort to relax and unwind, good food, entertainment, friendly staff all at your beck and call without being intrusive.
