The hotel was nice but many rooms need to be remodeled. I was the bride and booked 14 people. My room was the worst . They were accommodating and changed my room to a nicer room but not what I expected or wanted. The wedding coordinator was excellent. Ceremony beautiful. Unfortunately there were other screw ups. My wine and fruit that was supposed to be in our room when we got there was not. Later it was discovered it was put in my mothers room. The champagne and strawberries my new husband and I were supposed to have in our room after the wedding we're not there. Later I found out they went to another couple's room in our party. And while we were getting ready for the ceremony, all the groomsmen and grooms clothing was pressed which was great but it was sent to the wrong room as well and had to be tracked down. Overall it was very nice but not executed as well as I would have expected for the cost. I purchased their top wedding package.

We had problems with our toilet for 3 days and then had to change rooms. We never had complete towel and washcloth service. Not one day. We should not have to ask for clean linens. We paid for an ocean view room and if you walked all the way out on the patio and looked left you could see some water through the trees. We paid for ocean view and got pool view.

The 'yellow' buildings (I believe in the 500s) are fabulous! The swim up suites / beach ocean view are not nearly as nice as the rooms in the yellow buildings. We were 'upgraded' to 2nd floor ocean view and immediately moved back to the original room (again, yellow building). Food is fair, service could be better. The pool had leaves and bird feathers daily, they need to clean that overnight or early AM. The 'beach' is very rocky and the water smells (October). We've been to secrets before and LOVE them but would not recommend or return to this one.

Checking in was very poor. We got there at noon and our room was not ready till 4 pm. We went to eat at Oceana while we waited and it took forever to get our food. Several restraints were closed and when we ask for lobster it cost us $40.00.

The hotel bars needed a drink menu so guests would have options of tropical drinks and not trying to think of ones on their own. Most of my fruity drinks seemed watered down and not very flavorful and my soda was flat.

Upon entering the hotel lobby we were greeted with champagne and cold towels. They guy at the front desk was very nice and even upgraded us to the preferred section at no additional cost. That day we went down to the beach but realized we needed to get back in to the room. I walked back to our room and the key card did not work. I tried the second card and still no go. I walked up to the front lobby and they reset it. Unfortunately same thing happen, the door wouldn't register the card. We went back and forth numerous times and each time the lobby said security would meet us at the room. Security never showed, I asked a guy with walky talky to page security for me and he told me when need to go to the preferred lobby since we were in the preferred section. We did that, and wallah! it worked. It would have been nice to hours before. Other than that the hotel and rooms were nice. Our A/C was very loud and the roof leaked but that only happened when the tropical storm rolled through. All-in-all I would recommend this resort to friends. It was nice and quiet and they always had things going on. Look for GEO if you go there, he is a great guy and tons of fun. The last thing I would recommend the resort do is give guests a list of what stuff around the resort is free, i.e. 2 hour snorkeling and 30 minute kayaks. Other than that the food was good and it was a great week away from responsibility.

We booked as Preffered guests staying in room 1415. Preferred boils down to the best room locations. Our tub didn't work. The shower never got warm. No matter the tip amount for housekeeping or mini fridge, it was all the same standard service. The food at Bordeaux and room service was our favorite. The pools were fantastic, bar service was great. Massages at Pevonia Spa were amazing. Keeping all this in mind, our vacation was taken toward the end of the busy season. I understand the natural environment is going to deteriorate the hotel and cause some issues with humidity in the room, cracks in the walls etc... There was ONE night I lost my mind. Mosquito night. Not the resorts fault. My husband did not have pants and was refused seating in Bordeaux. Windows was full. Leaving us to eat in our rooms. THAT'S something the resort could have overlooked. Everyone was getting up to leave Oceana and get away from the mosquitoes. Throughout our stay were sought after by a time-share guy, that actually cornered us while checking in in the Preffered Lounge. The beds were great, lots of room, great views. Overall, our vacation is what we make of it and I enjoyed more if it than not.

Our Wait Staff

Aug 20 2017
We had the best wait staff after the second day Sergio and Mario knew that I wanted a Bloody Mary and my sister wanted coffee. they were very attentive to us and others around us. Always asking if there was anything else we needed. Happy smiles and glad to see their people for the day. Karina and Monse were also very helpful to us. The only part we did not appreciate was from the front table Spa section or Shark Tank as we call them. Very pushy about the spa incentive of getting 150.00 to spend. that s nice but we spent more than that to get there for sun and relaxation in the ocean and thats exactly what we wanted to do. She wouldn't take NO for an answer till we finally walked away.

The hotel staff wasn't that friendly. They didn't seem to like working there. The room was fine but the food was average and the service was below average, so we will not be staying there again.

Not what we expected

When we arrived we were very disappointed, we were told we were upgraded to the premier section and thought it was going to be an upgrade but we went from an ocean view room to a pool view room. The overall resort was older and more run down than we expected. The place was dirty with glasses all over the place and trash was not picked up. The next day that part was a little better but the attitudes of the staff was not good. The service at the restaurants was bad and if you were on the beach and someone did come around and ask if you wanted something to drink it would be around 30-45 min before you would get your drink back and it was either melted or the wrong drink when you did get it. Drinks were very light on alcohol and the whole thing about being in the premier section was supposed to be about the premium liquor. The only thing that would make me want to come back to secrets Aura would be the beach and water those were the only thing that were amazing and for the price we paid I would have expected a ton more from this place. We have gone to Secrets maroma and Puerto Vallarta and both of those were 10's all the way around.

Disappointed

A little disappointed in our stay at Aura Cozumel. We have never stayed at a Secrets before, we have been to Sandals. Our friends we were traveling with have stayed with Secrets and spoke very highly of riviera maya resorts. We were very disappointed in staff at restaurants and bars, no one was eager to serve us, even when we tipped ahead of time (and tipping is not necessary). Mixed drinks were not top shelf unless you asked for it. When I did ask for Captain Morgan I was told I could not have it because I was not a preferred guest. Mixed drinks tasted more like the mix than the alcohol. Stuck with beer to get the alcohol. Even in restaurants the staff was not real quick to serve, some didn't even ask for drink order, went right to meal order and didn't realize we hadn't even ordered drinks. Would have liked more indoor restaurant options since we were there in July and it was very hot and sticky. Maintenance around resort was so so. Pools were worn and needed fixed in several places. Our room was decent, but ceiling in bathroom was coming down, looked as if mirror was holding one side of ceiling up. Room was very dark, not many lighting options, and one lamp light bulb went out Day 2 and never replaced. Shuttle service from Secrets back to airport seemed confusing and chaotic for staff. Now food was excellent at Secrets and Sunscape. We did have Marco at DaMario's at Sunscape and he was wonderful! The only restaurant we went back to because we loved his service. Oh, and one thing we found really awkward was porn on the tv. Maybe that's normal for Secrets?

Smaller Secrets resort that still delivers big on satisfaction. Preferred section nice and quiet. Comfortable, clean rooms. Housekeeping very thorough. Not as much variety for restaurants options as some other Secrets but food quality very good. Service could be somewhat slow at times. Lots of daily activities to choose from. Fantastic snorkeling right of the beach. Big beach with soft white well manicured sand! Overall highly recommend for your stay on Cozumel.

Well... we had a fantastic time!! We came with a group of 14 total and all our guests were conveniently placed close together! Apple vacations did a great job organizing us all too and from the resort and the concierge service was great! Can’t wait to see their new lobby once it’s completed! Room: My husband and I were upgraded to the preferred ocean view swim up sweet for our wedding/honeymoon which had breath taking views. The room was clean and spacious, white with blue accents. Housekeeping forgot to replace some things sometimes but when asked were extremely helpful. The room eventually (the last two days of our trip) had a leak in the ceiling of the bathroom but we just stuck a towel in one of our trash cans and didn’t say anything. Part of ocean front property is that they are hard to maintain with the humidity and salt and sand corrosion so our expectations are understanding. The room service was hard to get ahold of some days when really busy and food was generally cold by the time it got there so additional staffing is probably needed but overall the accommodations were absolutely worth every penny!! It was an inexpensive trip with flights directly to Cozumel airport which I would rather do ANY day of the week versus Cancun. The birds... they were shocking at first but then it became almost soothing so you knew what time it was. I’m an early to bed and early riser and my husband needs at least 14 hours of sleep. Haha! So it worked out perfect... the birds you got used to and in fact some of them who were particularly nosey and invasive we just named and had a great time making up stories about their thoughts watching them. Haha! One in particular “Hungry Kevin” and his cousin “Ricky” kept coming back everyday for possible left overs on the porch. Haha! We also found a little crab digging in the bushes in the sand (which were always well groomed)! One sweet early morning while I was laying on one of our outdoor beds a landscaper/beachcomber brought me some flowers and wished me good morning. There was a light rain shower nearly every afternoon which was always fun, as people would hustle, and gather under coverings. It was also a great humidity controller for the day, it was never too humid it would just rain a bit and start over! I spent every morning up early (around 6ish) from the bird call enjoying my coffee and the quiet views before all the bustle of the day started with pick ups for diving and snorkel excursions, pool aerobics, sand volleyball, and sun worshipers like me. :) Honestly the beaches and water were the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, the pool was clean/clear/private, plenty of chairs and beach beds, never over crowded but didn’t seem deserted either, the staff always said hello in some fashion with a smile on their face and if you asked someone for something (like to clean up the rain outside your room) they would do so with a smile! Of course we are great tippers and we don’t expect something for nothing -all inclusive does NOT mean to not be generous to your staff, remember they don’t just work for the resort they work for you too. So we went with $500 in cash just to tip or do a little shopping. I got a swim suit and shorts for $80 in their shop and the rest we tipped the staff with. That said I won’t be taken advantage of either and I do have one complaint- I can’t remember the bartenders name on the shift of 11/29/17 at Desires the discoteca bar but he was a bit of a hustler trying to take advantage of drunk people and said he didn’t work there again (which on the 5th I saw again at the Manatee bar). I know personally he said he didn’t have any change when I asked him to break a $20 and my dad had just given him $20 and I had too. Eventually I wanted more drinks and he wanted more money bc it was late and still wouldn’t get me change claiming he had none, so I threw another $20 at him (literally)and said I would remember that -and I did- so that is why I’m saying something now. He doesn’t deserve to work there if he’s going to be that way to guests, bc EVERYONE else was fantastic and trust worthy all the way down to the man who helped me with my bags when we left. I wish so badly I could remember everyone’s names that made such a HUGE impact on our trip!! There was a waiter at Windows that really stood out to my husband and I that we ate at the evening of the 4th that was absolutely outstanding but we can’t remember for sure his name. The Chilean pork ribs, Brazilian beef, grouper, and pretty much everything there was incredible food and service. The breakfast buffet was incredible and two full rooms besides the omelet and eggs to order cook which was incredible. That restaurant really had all moving parts nailed. The Skybar was also incredible food and views. Of course the view is what this place is all about. It’s for people who enjoy nature at its finest and some of the most beautiful sunsets and water we’ve ever seen. The sushi was Amazing (my husband doesn’t like sushi normally) but we both thought it was fantastic! Okay now for details: Vicky Castellanos (my best friend there) I can’t tell you what a joy she was to myself and my family. She was the most caring sincere helpful waitress I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. We originally met at the preferred pool swim up bar where Miguel and Viridiana were working as well. They were all quite literally why we kept going back to that specific location and as they moved to different locations during our stay we followed them around too. Adrian a host of the resort was also a delight and had smiles on everyone’s faces with his giant personality and service. Ismael Torres our wedding photographer was a 5 star experience, Pati Gómez our wedding coordinator was a joy to work with and made sure everything was flawless. Our ceremonial minister did an impeccable job of our union and couldn’t have been happier with our ceremony. Winnie The Pooh went above and beyond to get my father in law a WHITE Secrets Aura ballcap (which is not sold its part of the beach uniforms) and went out of his way remembering me by name. In fact All of the named employees remembered myself, my husband Jordan (Jorge-an inside joke of Miguel’s), and my dad’s names. They truly made our trip so special and made us feel special and valued. We are proud to now call them ALL friends...They all gave us hugs goodbye and we can’t wait to go back for our 1 year anniversary and see them again!! We were so sad to leave! Thank you to all the staff at Secrets Aura and Sunscape that made our trip and wedding spectacular. We loved it so much and we will see you next November 30th 2018!! Much love!

It will be great someday.

This is a work in progress. It will never have the WOW factor of other Secrets, but you don't pay as much either. Food was good, people very friendly, very hard working. Beach had excellent snorkeling and views. Pools were cold, the ocean was warmer! Use the resort next door for more restaurant choices, very easy to do. Couple small deals: TV reception was horrific and we didn't have an iron, just some sore of leaking hand held steamer thing. We took a Jeep around the island one day and visited the lighthouse area, that was a great thing to do. Ate at a place called Chen Rio that was very good. Spent some time in town, after the cruise ships left, and enjoyed dinner and checking things out there. Overall, we learned to love Cozumel and Secrets Aura. When they finish the upgrades it will we a great place to go, currently? It's a good place.

This was an excellent trip-7 days. Food was teriffic, staff was fantastic (friendly, helpful and fun). Small number of guests added to informality & individual attention. Only draw back was the in progress renovation. Other than that, it would have been excellent.

I liked this resort. It is a little dated I guess having just stayed at AM’s Dreams Tulum and Dreams Cobo, but it was clean and there wasn’t any problems with our accommodations. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Of course this is the place to dive, but my wife and I are snorkelers and there is plenty of that too. The food was ok typical of all inclusive. Room service was a little hard to get a hold of at times. The beach is pretty good lots of small fish, etc. to see and play with. Overall a good place to visit.
