I thought Secrets was suppose to be nice !!!!

facility was run down, food was terrible, the buffet was a joke, entertainment was at the buffet... there were 17 people there the night that i counted the people. less the first night that I went to the Buffet. only went to the Buffet twice. There was only 1 restaurant that was ok and had good food. We waited an hour to be seated and they drew the meal out so that we were there for 90 minutes after our 60 minute wait. You use Frontier airlines and that means an automatic $100 each way in baggage and $3 for a can of coke. We were at Cozumel but you landed us at Cancun, which was an additional 4 hour travel time to Cozumel. really appreciated the extra travel time. The best thing about Secrets was the service of the employees. Other than that, the place is falling apart, the food was terrible, and I can not think of any reason why anyone would want to spend extra dollars to go to Secrets...... Thanks your rating of the place was crap......

Watch and phone taken from room the very first day
THEODORE V.
Feb 06 2018
We had a Maintenance call the first day and left our phones and watch charging and they were missing from our room the next morning. We reported it to the apple person onsite who connected us with hotel security . They went to my room to read the cards of the times individuals were in and out of the room aftercwe checked in but information was never shared even though I inquired every day and was put off . I told them I didn’t want to press charges just wanted the phone back. The very last day with about an hour before we departed for airport they apple service contact wanted me to file police report . There was no way I would have made my plane as it was conveyed it would take a couple of hours . The hotel gave us a letter for a 5day 4 night stay with a promise of a certificate to be delivered via email . Have yet to see. We traveled for a wedding which was supposed ho be a joyous occasion turned into a nightmare of stalls into this investigation. Yes I left it out to charge. Yes we went to the pool and dinner and ended back in our room late and probably should have went back to the room to check on the service to air conditioner but I didn’t . So that being said I’m a little disappointed in their lack of concern in helping me get my phone and watch back .

Staff, beach and overall facilities were great. Food was hit and miss usually very good. Facilities were older but well maintained. Our room was next to a bird sanctuary and very loud in the morning, I get up early so it wasn't a big deal. The one thing I suggest (nothing to do with the resort) is stay away from the scam artists at the airport, and go straight to the Apple Representative.

Our stay was terrible. Poor service from check in to check out. Check in: We booked a preferred guest experience and as soon as we got out of the taxi we were treated second rate. The bell boy left our bags in the round about for 30 minutes. We asked 5x where do we need to go to check in. Once we obtained that information we proceeded to check in where we were greeted by another ugly personality. We were placed in a room with a broken toilet and no phone. If there is no phone there in no room service, concierge, or access to any other amenity from the room. The stay: Water down drinks, low supply of food & alchohol at a all inclusive resort is terrible, right! Well if that’s what you’re looking for this is the place. The food doesn’t embody the local fare and is terribly presented. Restaurants are poorly ran. The activities around the resort are the caliber of a convalescent home. Check out: We missed the ferry to Cozumel because the bell hop was 45 min late to get our bags. We left the bags where they told us to leave them and started the check out process. When it was time to get in our cab to the ferry our bags were no where to be found. Missed ferry means wait another hour and then missing our transportation from the ferry to the airport. Needless to say we missed our flight and had to stay another night in Cancun. Apple vacations wasn’t much help either. We were to receive a “distressed” travel rate but when we looked on line this rate was 50 bucks more than the regular room rate. I am done with Apple vacations & the secrets brand as a whole!

Our Holiday Trip 2017
ROBERT H.
Jan 19 2018
The hotel is beautiful, the staff friendly and wonderful, our swim out room was very convenient and the restaurants were excellent! The entertainment was practically non-exsistent. The fire show was great. The New Years eve Mexican band was very salsa (thank you Mr DJayyyy!) So let's get to it; The resort planner for New Year's eve really dropped the ball requiring guests to make reservations to a beach buffet party. When we spoke with the chef regarding reservations he tried to sell us overly priced wine and champagne at a private table on the beach. Since we weren't interested, he said we could just sit at the general group tables without reservations. The rub is that were turned away from the event because we did not have a reservation or a ticket. Even the restaurants required a reservation, which we did not have because we thought we were attending a beach party.OK! so we made the best out of New years for dinner. Later when the bars and buffet were cleaned up, we were allowed to join the party. Christmas on the resort was very quiet with no events. even the show at the pool was cancelled because the restaurants were so slow and no guests showed up. For a holiday trip, in the preferred service club, the holidays were disappointing. We spent the previous two holiday seasons in Jamaica...and it was amazing- we will stick with a sure thing for future trips.

Aura Secrets Cozumel

This Hotel has beautiful grounds and is well maintained. Staff are pleasant and amenities, on paper, impressive. It lacks several things. First upon check-in, activities hosts corral arriving guests who are tired and wish only to be show to their room. In part this is done because many of the rooms are not ready for check-in even at the time indicated in the various brochures. Food is high mediocre. Presentation and diverse types of entrées lacked enthusiasm and creativity not to mention diversity. There is a sameness about the food that one would not expect at this hotel. Restaurants touting a foreign cuisine like the hotel's French restaurant do not seem to be able to understand what French cuisine is all about. Knstead the restaurant relied on mimicking a French restaurant, hoping that the actual food did not matter. Most everything had a Mexican taste to it as if the restaurant were Mexican - French fusion. We had a wonderful looking mimosa breakfast brought to our room which looked delicious, yet everything that was supposed to be hot was cold from coffee to eggs Benedict. This seems to encapsulate the hotel-it appears lush and exotic but the appearance belies a very lackadaisical substratum. A specialty evening on the beach featuring Mexican cuisine was set up using tables that accommodated ten or more guests. This is a couples resort and while some may not mind this arrangement, others would have liked a small intimate table for two. The result was that few attended this event. The spa too seemed more a trapping than anything anyone actually used. The prices for one are too high even for mid range well to do guests. Simply lower the price and perhaps more guests would take advantage of this. All in all we were surprised at the mediocrity of this highly touted hotel.

Wedding excursion

The hotel was nice but many rooms need to be remodeled. I was the bride and booked 14 people. My room was the worst . They were accommodating and changed my room to a nicer room but not what I expected or wanted. The wedding coordinator was excellent. Ceremony beautiful. Unfortunately there were other screw ups. My wine and fruit that was supposed to be in our room when we got there was not. Later it was discovered it was put in my mothers room. The champagne and strawberries my new husband and I were supposed to have in our room after the wedding we're not there. Later I found out they went to another couple's room in our party. And while we were getting ready for the ceremony, all the groomsmen and grooms clothing was pressed which was great but it was sent to the wrong room as well and had to be tracked down. Overall it was very nice but not executed as well as I would have expected for the cost. I purchased their top wedding package.

We had problems with our toilet for 3 days and then had to change rooms. We never had complete towel and washcloth service. Not one day. We should not have to ask for clean linens. We paid for an ocean view room and if you walked all the way out on the patio and looked left you could see some water through the trees. We paid for ocean view and got pool view.

The 'yellow' buildings (I believe in the 500s) are fabulous! The swim up suites / beach ocean view are not nearly as nice as the rooms in the yellow buildings. We were 'upgraded' to 2nd floor ocean view and immediately moved back to the original room (again, yellow building). Food is fair, service could be better. The pool had leaves and bird feathers daily, they need to clean that overnight or early AM. The 'beach' is very rocky and the water smells (October). We've been to secrets before and LOVE them but would not recommend or return to this one.

No Snow
Todd P,

Overall the resort is a 3 or 3.5. The staff were great. Javier and Winnie from events and Pablo from the sky bar standout. The beach area is nice although getting into the water is tough as it is full of rocks, etc. This is a problem at much of the island; not just Secrets. We had a preferred room, ocean front junior suite and our room was not nearly as nice as advertised. Throughout the resort it needs updating, painting, etc. We’ve stayed at Secrets in Punta Cana and it was much nicer. There is no real benefit to the preferred section as they don’t check room keys, no real separation of the preferred area exists and no priority seating when there is a wait at a restaurant. These were features in Punta Cana. Restaurants were okay, nothing great. The Market Cafe has a very good buffet breakfast. For dinner Bordeaux was good and De La Mario & Portofino (neighboring resort restaurants) were good. The Sky Bar is a must for watching the sunset. I would not return to this resort again but would stress the staff was wonderful and it sure beat shoveling snow.

The location, ocean, service and food were really good! Never had to stress over seating at the beach or pools. Friendly staff and felt very safe. Not a bunch or young partying kids, but a bit loud by the pool at times. Especially motivating people down the water slide! Rooms were “Ok” we didn’t have the “premium” room.

would recommend for the price

I stayed here for two nights while visiting Cozumel. The hotel is about 15-20 minutes by taxi from the pueblo and ferry port (I came in from Playa del Carmen by ferry). The hotel is located next door to Sunscape, which I actually considered staying at, not knowing they were "sister hotels". However, I chose Secrets because it's only for adults. I went for a walk to explore the grounds at Sunscape, and it was definitely nice as well, but probably more suited for and geared towards families with younger children. The buffet at the Portofino restaurant was lacking in options, to put it mildly and I ended up just eating the rice the one time I tried the buffet over there. Anyway, back to Secrets;I was greeted with a wet towel and a glass of champagne on arrival, which was a nice touch. I was also upgraded to a "preferred guest" room, which was definitely appreciated! However, I did notice the sewer smell every now and then and the air con was dripping on the bed at times (there were two large beds in the room and I was fortunately sleeping on the other one!). The best part about the room was the bathroom. It's nicely decorated and modern. Has a shower and a bathtub and a separate toilet room within the bathroom. I loved all the bathroom amenities, such as the sunscreen lotion with SPF 15, toothbrush and toothpaste. I also liked that the body lotion, sunscreen, shower gel etc. were fairly big sized (40 ml) as opposed to what they usually are at hotels. Slippers and robes were also available. The hotel is basically located right at the beach, and this was extremely convenient and very beautiful waking up to. Lots of hammocks around too (some even in the water!). As for the food, it was OK. I really liked the breakfast buffet. The dinner was also good enough, and lunch was descent (Market Cafe). I also tried the Windows a la carte restaurant which was nice as well, but portions were very small (as is normal in these kinds of "fancy" restaurants). I also tried the Oceanic restaurant on my first day, but service here was extremely slow. I had to ask for my soda after 10 min. of waiting and for the tortilla chips accompanying the guacamole and the pico de gallo. However the place was crowded and staff probably overworked, I don't know. Service at the other restaurants were perfect. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and wish I could have stayed longer. Hope to come back one day!

This hotel was listed for us as a 5 star, I would say its definitely a 4 star. There are different areas to stay within this property so depending on what kind of stay you want make sure to review all the room types! We started out with a room that was in the back of the property with little view, small balcony, near the pool that hosted the most fun activities (pool sports, swim up bar, music). The room was super musty so we asked to move and decided to upgrade to an ocean view, totally worth it for the vacation we wanted. The ocean view rooms have an incredible view of the ocean, big balconies, a view of the more relaxed pool with the lazy river and even a clear view of some of the nightly entertainment (set up near the pool or on the beach). They also have preferred rooms, with a private pool and a really nice looking swim up bar, they have much nicer lounge chairs on the beach too, the rooms with an ocean view looked amazing in that area. It's a totally different vacation depending on what room you book. The property is not super huge which is great, easy to walk around, see it all. It never seemed packed, always easy to get into the restaurants or find a lounge chair at the beach. The snorkeling right off the beach was amazing (water socks help with the rocks right at the shore!), and it was really nice having a pier, to swim around, get on a boat for an excursion or just relax on to see the sun set. Overall this is a lovely property.

We stayed in building 1100 the week of Feb. 12-19th. Had an ocean view, which was very nice. Pros: Staff were friendly and attentive Our room had been remodeled No reservations required for meals Food was good, but not over the top. We liked Oceana, Patios (Sunscape resort), Windows, and Bordeaux. Best place for breakfast is Market Place (buffet). Beautiful sunsets Crystal clear ocean 20 minutes from airport Cons: Due to the rocks, the ocean is not easily accessible from the beach, Pretty quite at night A couple of mornings we didn't have water around 7 AM. But, just waited awhile (20-30 minutes) and the pressure was back.
