Originally a kid-friendly hotel this now appals mostly to those who are seeking something beyond Marbella. A crowd of boozy Sun readers in the main. Apart from the clientele the hotel is delightful. Clean, on the beach and quiet. There is a magnificent swim-around pool in the courtyard and Rachels restaurant serves good food - however be sure to book early as the alternative are buffet at Drifters (day in day out the same) or Chopsticks which seems only to seat 14. The hotel is walkable to the Saturday horse acing almost opposite and on the 11 scheduled route (goes north to Holetown or east to St Lawrence Gap) and loads of passing minibuses (fare $1 Us or 2 local)

Lovely hotel!

The Savannah Beach Hotel is spotlessly clean, and very well laid out. The buildings and grounds are incredibly pretty and the lazy river meandering though the walkways is lovely and inviting. It is in a good location, close to Oistins, Accra Beach, Carlisle Bay (lovely) and Bridgetown. There are many buses passing by the hotel all day going to various island locations, and fares are cheap at $2 US to travel any distance. Room: The room we stayed in was lovely- we had an enormous four-poster that was really comfortable and had big fluffy pillows- I haven’t slept so well for ages. The furniture was dark wood and rustic, solid and in good condition. There was a mini kitchen area with fridge and kettle, a separate bathroom with a shower over the bath, an ironing board with iron and a free safe. We also had free wifi and excellent air conditioning. Our terrace had a comfortable cane sofa and footstool (not the usual plastic chairs and tables), so was a relaxing place to sit. The only thing I can think of that was a little annoying was that there was a shared door between our room and the next room and for most of the holiday it wasn’t an issue, but a family stayed in the room next door for a couple of nights and the noise was terrible, we could hear every word. Thankfully, I think they were only there for a wedding and then they were gone, or we would have had to say something. We didn’t stay in a pool access room, but they seem to be perfect for taking a dip from your balcony/ terrace if you are too hot and the pool never seems to get crowded. All rooms are only a very short walk from the restaurants, pool and beach. Pool: Along with the lazy river, there is a small main pool, but it never gets crowded. There are sunbeds and a swim-up bar here. We never had to fight for sunbeds, which was refreshing. Food: The food was variable. There are 3 different eating places and they are all of a different standard. We never had an issue with booking a table at the restaurants. Following on from what other people say, Chopstix is the best and the setting is really romantic. Note, children are not allowed to eat here, it is Adults only. There is a six course menu including starters, sushi, noodles, soups, rice dishes, desserts- it’s just lovely. Drifters- Some days were good, others not so much. This was especially true of lunchtimes. Every day there were hotdogs, fries and burgers on the menu, which is okay for those who like them. Some days there were other options such as chilli, lasagne or wraps, but other days, not, so burgers it was! Rachels- We only ate a la carte here once and we were on the first sitting, with only a couple of tables full, yet we still had to wait 10 minutes for a drink. We left after the main course so I can’t comment further on the full meal. For the buffet evenings, everything was fine. There is a lovely little bar in the restaurant, where we spent a nice evening with entertainment and chatting with other guests. Very relaxing and it had a good atmosphere. Staff: I would say 95% of the staff are amazing! They are friendly, smiley, will go out of their way to help you and they make your holiday special. I must mention Jackie who loves to sing in Drifters around the tables and has some amazing moves! Loved her! So entertaining! Also, thanks to Rachel and Lynette in the restaurants and Lorraine our room cleaner who was fab at her job! Entertainment: We didn’t always stick around for the entertainment, as on different nights your evening meal was in different locations. So one night when everyone was eating in Rachels, there was a singer on in the adjoining bar. The best night we thought was Mondays in Drifters. There was a limbo dancer, dancing girls and a DJ. It was an awesome night, with probably plenty of sore heads the next day! Club v basic: We didn’t upgrade to ‘Club’ but I think it’s worth doing if you like a bit of extra pampering and decent branded drinks. The Club guests have a lovely grassy deck where they can sit on better sunbeds with parasols. There is a gazebo on the deck, where they can help themselves to bottles of Banks beer, branded soft drinks and snacks. There is also waiter service for drinks, lunches, etc. They also receive 4 small bottles of spirits: vodka, Mount Gay rum, whisky and Bombay Sapphire gin, plus bottles of Banks beers and soft drinks, every day in their rooms as needed. Non-club guests don’t get bottles of beer or branded soft drinks, just draught and local branded spirits. Fair dos, Club guests pay extra for this service, but it felt a bit like ‘them and us’. From an observers’ point of view, I personally think it is worth the upgrade, as I would have loved a cold frosty bottle of Banks beer in the heat and a plastic glass of draught beer didn’t always do it for me! Beach: The thing that really let ‘our’ holiday down was the inability to swim from the beach in front of the hotel. The sea directly in front of the hotel is full of rocks and the waves are great for surfing, but not for gentle swimming or other water sports. The hotel does not offer any paddle boards/ kayaks or anything (which tells you something), although I believe there is a limited amount of snorkelling equipment available for children on request. Yes, as other people say, there is a lovely beach to the left of the Club deck, in front of the Sugar Bay Hotel and to the right on Drill Hall Beach, but the problem is, we like to have a lounger to sit on and a drink if we want one, whilst we are swimming at the beach. So, short of dragging a heavy lounger across the Club deck to Sugar Bay beach, (which I shouldn’t think would be allowed), this was impossible. As a result, my husband’s holiday was spoilt, as he is a complete waterbaby and he was hoping to spend a significant amount of his time bodding in and out of the water. The fact that about 3 foot of seaweed washed up onto the beach whilst we were there, completely ruining basic access to the sea for several days, only added to his disappointment. (Please note though, that this is only a seasonal phenomenon, not year-round and the staff worked incredibly hard to clear the beach). Beach Walks: there are lovely long walks along the beach to both sides of the hotel. To the left, go past Sugar Bay and Coconut Court, along the boardwalk to Accra Beach. It is stunning! Go to the left of the hotel and you will reach the Hilton Beach in about 10 minutes, which again is lovely. Overall: This is a pretty, very clean, well-maintained hotel with wonderful staff. Only downside: disappointing beach frontage and no water sports available. If you like a good drink and a bit of added pampering, upgrade to Club. If you like a peaceful, relaxing holiday, this is the perfect place to go. However, do not go in school holidays unless you have children. The first 4 days of our holiday were marvellous and then the kids arrived. Bedlam!

We were lucky enough to spend 9 nights at this gem of a hotel. We stayed in a pool view suite which was great for myself, my husband and our kids aged 15 and 12. The room was cleaned beautifully every day and the mini bar was topped up as we had paid for the club package. The resort was quiet and even though it was fairly full gave the impression of not being too busy. The food was amazing and we really enjoyed eating at Drifters as it was close to the beach and had plenty of choice. Breakfast was always at Rachel's and there was a fantastic choice which varied each day. The egg station was great (omlettes were delicious, as were the pancakes) and we made use of it most mornings! We loved the beach, yes it was stoney in the water but it looked lovely and the trees along it added to the character. Just to the left of the club deck (30 second walk) is a slightly wider beach which was great for swimming and snorkelling. The location of the hotel is brilliant if you like to get out and about. Across the road from.the Garrison and George Washington house with the tunnels. 15 - 20 minute walk from Carlisle Bay, around 25 - 30 minutes walk from Bridgetown. In the opposite direction it is a short walk to Hastings Market (small and on sat, sun and wed). There is also the board walk down that way where on our final morning we saw 5 turtles Bobbing around in the sea. There is a bus stop outside the hotel and the little white vans also run by continually. We used one of these to pop into Ostins. It is also convenient for tour pick ups. We went on Ted's Island tours, Glory tours taxi and the Cool Runnings catermeran. This was an ideal hotel for us and if we visit Barbados again I would definitely return here.

Would highly recommend

Stayed here as a family for part of my mums early 60th birthday. Been several times to Barbados before but never to this hotel. And I definitely would come back again. Rooms were clean and near enough spotless. And so was the hotel it’s self. And I can’t say enough how good the staff were, nothing was to much for them, and they went out of their way to make your holiday. The only downside was the beach but that was just due to the seaweed they have coming in currently. It was never to busy and perfect for a peaceful holiday. I would definitely come back. So a big thanks to all the staff, your doing an amazing job.

We have been lucky enough to visit Savannah at Easter 2018 with my two children ages 3 and 5. The staff here are absolutely fantastic - 5 star service. By the end of the holiday they all knew my daughters names and were so kind and considerate to them. we stayed in room 327 (ocean view suite) which was great as on two floors and the girls had proper single Beds and a really comfy queen sized been upstairs. The air con and fans are brilliant for keeping room cool. The food is excellent and all of it really good. There isn’t miles and miles of choice (think bigger all inclusives) but that’s not a bad thing. The drinks are good and service behind bar excellent (even making endless chocolate milkshakes for the girls) The beach isn’t the best Barbados can offer but a 5 min shuttle to Carlisle bay is powder sands and free drinks courtesy of the hotel. We hired a car and drove to the west cost which was lovely! In the hotel there was lots of children for my two to play with which was good We will definitely return to Savannah and looks forward to it!
