The front desk staff was very short and rude to answer any question we may have had. We were required to wear a wristband during our stay and my wife's band was too tight at first so she asked if she could get it loosened. The receptionist (MARIA) made a rude remark to her and stated that this was gonna be a problem. She fixed the problem but even after that incident she was not very welcoming. It really left a bad taste about the rest of the staff. Our friends kept asking for the manager for an issue they were having and they were told that he was busy and or not there that day. Just not a good way to start our stay.

Without question, my stay at the Sandos Playacar resort was "muy bien!" My Apple Vacations agent, Cassandra Erne, did a fantastic job putting it together! The only true complaint I have is about the customer service on the return flight from Cancun to Cleveland, but that's an issue I'll be addressing with Frontier Airlines! All things considered, Apple Vacations did a marvelous job, and I'll recommend the company, the specific agent (Mrs. Erne), and the resort to anyone and everyone looking to book a marvelous vacation!!!!

The hotel has made a lot of changes since the last time we were there, most of them for the worse. The beach is still amazing but the developed portion of the beach with shade and palapas is now fenced off and off-limits for families. The new family beach is overcrowded. People had to fight for chairs, while the adults-only beach was half-empty. The buildings closest to the beach are for adults only and guests with family (blue) bracelets are not allowed to even walk through that area. A manager told us that we couldn't walk to the adults-only bar on the paved walkway and were only allowed to get there walking on the sand. The family section now is what used to be adults-only section and is at least a 20-minute walk to the beach. There were shuttles running but most of the time they were full. We came there for the beach and were still able to enjoy it, but it seems like the hotel's policy now is segregation. They prefer adults and treat families as second or even third-class citizens.

Need more bathrooms near the beach, a couple of the day the beach bar was closed, why? Didn't like the wait for the shuttle. Like the fact men did not have to wear long pants and did not have to make reservations to dinner. Loved the adults only ocean view room!!

wanted to write about my poor experince at Sandos Playacar. I was recommended this resort by Apple Vacation rep when I wanted something comparable to RIU but with a childcare center that started at 3 years old (RIU started at 4 years old). Which was false information, since at 3 years old and adult had to be with my son which defeated the whole purpose of childcare. This resort is NOT comparable to RIUs or kid-friendly. Marichelo greeted us at the reception desk. For our initial encounter I was thrown back that she wasn’t more welcoming. We were exhausted from a day of travel and she was very short with us. We were concerned about her scanning the passports and when we asked why she needed the passport she responded “So I can scan them.” It was obvious that she was scanning so we asked for more clarification to why she was scanning it and only then she explained. We were okay with security reasoning behind it but her attitude was not what we expected. Our room was at least 10 minute walk if not more with a 3 year old to the beach and main eating areas. I was disappointed by the distance and asked for a different room. I had to downgrade the room in order to get something closer and more manageable to travel to beach daily. When I asked if I could get reimbursed with a resort credit (spa) for the money I was losing they said no. Matilda was helpful in being in contact and rearranging the room. The service is also not all inclusive. Arriving one gets the sense of the class system the resort works on. I had a blue bracelet and I quickly saw that those with the black bracelet not only had better service but access to specific pools, bars, and top shelf liquor. I wish I wold have no about this prior to booking as I would have like to experience all inclusive. It's been my past experience with other resorts that all clients are equal and this was not the case at Sandos. However, Pablo from buffet was super attentive and realized our disappointment with the service and our stay. He did what he could to make our time there more enjoyable. We ended our trip with a private dinner and had top service at this dinner. Janet and Jose were fantastic and made dinner a great experience. Another poor experience was the servers were not as friendly as other resorts. Not sure if the blue bracelet label had anything to do with it. Rodolfo at GOURMEX was terrible has a server. He rushes us to take our order, I asked for a minute and he stood at the table. I continued to read the menu and he began to tap his pen on the table! I was annoyed with this, that I just placed an order for what my mother was having. When it came time for dessert he quickly walked passed our table and roughly handed my mother the menu which landed on her chest. This was when I got up and spoke to the manager. The manager was approachable, listened, and apologize for the server's actions. FOOD was so hard to get! The resort doesn't take roses for dinner so be prepared to wait in line to get into a restaurant. Also, we would walk to one restaurant for lunch and it would be close and by the time we walked to the other (because it was that far of a walk) the other would be closed! Lastly, when I was leaving feedback in hotel kiosk, one of the entertainment members was watching over my shoulder and reading my comments. She then interrupted me asking why I scored entertainment at "good" and not "great" I was annoyed but explained my concerns for lack of children's entertainment in a kid-friendly resort. The she proceeded to read and translate my comment into Spanish for the guest waiting in line. I turned around and asked her to please respect my space and stop reading and translating my comments to others! Overall, I would NOT RECOMMEND this place, not worth the money.

Staff were always very helpful. On another note, maintenance needs upgraded on showers. We continually had water running out from under our shower door creating a mess in the bathroom. The one thing I didn’t like in the shower was that there was no place to really put anything like bottles of shampoo, soap etc.

Our room was flooded due to a plumbing problem in the room next door. The water seeped into our room overnight and when my wife got up in the morning she slipped and fell on the slippery floor. She injured her knee and shoulder in the fall. When we called down to report the situation all we were told is to call another number, because the front desk didn't want to deal with the situation. The Hotel offered no help or any comfort to my wife for this situation. Only after I demanded a room change was I given a new room. Not a bigger or better room, just a safer room. This incident ruined our trip. All I can tell all guests is that if there is an incident you will get little or no help from this Hotel.

The Sandos PlayaCar hotel had a great location with wonderful meals in the evenings. The service was great and we liked how the staff was very accommodating for our friend with a Gluten Allergy. As far as the negatives, I think the rooms need major updating. Overall nice resort though

CHECK IN: Was a tad slow but when it came our turn, the guy checked us in and the other couple we came with at the same time, even put us 1 room a part. Our Apple Rep met us right away. The Timeshare people were circling like hawks but I already knew we had to say no right away or avoid them altogether. Grabbed a drink at the bar lobby and off to our rooms we went. ADULT SECTION ROOM: Our room was great! Ground level, pool view, super clean. The A/C worked great. Fridge came unplugged a little somehow during our week there. We did have problems with the outlets as well. We would have our phones plugged in but the plug seemed to fall out if you weren't careful. ROOM SERVICE: We called for room service a few nights. They were quick and very nice. MAID SERVICE: Super nice! Loved the towel animals on our bed. Even brought a bouquet of flowers one day. ADULT POOL: BEST PART!!!!!!! David, Luis, Fabian (I think that's his name) were great!! The pina coladas were a tad runny for my liking so I asked for more ice and to be thicker. They had no problem doing so. They knew which drink each person preferred and were bringing drinks to you when they seen you without. David by far was our favorite, only because he was the one walking around getting everyone drinks so we got to know him better. His personality was top notch!!! HE made our vacation!! HE is the reason we are planning to come back lol!!! You can really tell he loves what he does. He suggested new drinks or shots to try and he didn't steer us wrong. The adult side is super quiet and could be a little more lively. Not a party, but more lively. Get some games going, something. Music would be ideal! BBQ was good. Tacos would be a good add to it instead of just nachos. STAFF/GROUNDSMEN: Never walked by someone without an Hola! Buenos Diaz! Some of the nicest people we've ever met. GROUNDS: Beautiful!!!! Seen cats that were super friendly. A donkey that gave you love nibbles because he wanted your attention and you turned your back for a picture haha! Iguanas were neat to see as well as the coatis and some rabbit looking thing. BEACH: Gorgeous!! A nice little stroll from the adult side or hop on the golf cart. Tons of chairs, bar and snacks. RESTAURANTS: Didn't have an item we didn't like. Wait staff was good, some didn't speak much english or understand so we both struggled but made do. It didn't effect our experience at all. SPA: Spa people were too pushy. Go there for your FREEBIES! ENTERTAINMENT: GREAT!!!

Family Trip
Easymoney82,
Sun Feb 17 13:13:27 EST 2019
We traveled here first week of February for 7 nights stay. King bed room with bunk beds in the family area on the main floor. The bathroom is a little strange with the toilet in a old shower with no privacy. The shower drain was very slow and the water would build up and leak through the poorly caulked seams and run across the floor. Other than that the room was large, good beds and was kept clean and drinks were stocked everyday. The family area pool near the rooms is very large with nice bar and daily bbq for lunch. Although there are no smoking signs everywhere and a smoking area, it is not policed very well and you find people smoking / vaping everywhere. Not a big deal but could be addressed if they have signs up to prohibit it. The food was in general good, two of the seven mornings the scrambled eggs and hash browns at the breakfast buffet were cold, i told the staff and they were replaced. I think the heating areas where food is kept during display could be warmer. There are plenty of choices to eat everyday and if your there for a week you will be satisfied with selection. Drinks were plentiful and the bar tenders, food service staff, drivers and maids were all very nice and polite and i tipped well to show my appreciation. My only negative encounter was at check out the lady asked me to pay the eco fee of 8 american dollars when i had already paid it at check in. The man at that time did not give me a receipt when i paid which now i know i should have asked for one. In the end i never paid twice and was "released" without further issue. The beach is very nice, there was seaweed at the shore edge but they were cleaning it up all the time..it was a losing battle. Outside the resort limits as you walk the beach the plastic garbage that has washed ashore is awful and plentiful..shame really. In the limits of the resort the beach was pretty decent, some small garbage items but cigarette butts were most commonly found..should provide those smokers out post or something it was a bit much. The resort is very large and expect to walk lots but there is the golf cart style trams that run all the time. The road is shared with walkers and can get a bit tight sometimes when it passes. New family area at the beach needs more trees as the adult only side looks much nicer and more shade. There is alot of construction going on there in the new family area which kind of took the relaxing atmosphere out of it. Music was usually too loud at the family pool which we found not necessary, it's not a dance or night club. We weren't bothered about time shares but the spa staff and guys trying to sell scuba / snorkel tours were always floating around, and if your uncomfortable with saying no all the time it can be a bother. The wifi was good as well and the grounds are very well kept, they work hard to keep the place looking good and that was nice. In all it was a good trip for a family of three, we would go back for sure and now know what to expect. Sunwing provided travel to and from airport...going there took forever as it was dropping people off everywhere and going back was pretty well straight forward trip to airport. Take american currency with you as it is definitely the money of choice there which i found surprising.

Not a huge fan of all-inclusive resorts but Sandos Playacar was quite nice.

We were at the resort the first week of February. We stayed in the adult only section and were pleased with the location closer to the beach. The first room we were given was lovely with one King bed but it was on the ground floor, did not have a balcony/patio and reeked of mold. The odor seemed to be coming through the HVAC system. We requested another room and were moved immediately. The second room had two queens and was not as nice as the first but smelled better (also still a bit moldy after being closed up during the day). We were very impressed with the staff - always a smile and a greeting - and in particular Rebecca Perez at the adult only breakfast buffet and Sofia, one of the Concierges. Beach is large and kept clean - seaweed was an issue but they had a tractor grooming the shoreline. Food was okay, not great. Husband had a great filet at the French restaurant. Overall, it was a very relaxing vacation. If we were to do another all inclusive, we would consider going back.

We stayed at Sandos Playacar in 2009 and decided to try it again. After reading about all the changes, we were curious to see for ourselves and thought everything was for the better. We stayed in the all adult section and found it to be nicely separated. While the rooms in this section could use an update, we were still very happy and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the Blue Moon beach bar; it was nice to have lunch available late morning rather than having to wait until 12:30 as we have at other resorts. The all adult breakfast was nice, but somewhat limited, so we had most of our breakfasts and dinners at the main buffet which had a nice variety. We also liked the Select Bar/Lounge in the main lobby. The bartenders here were excellent and the drinks were the best we had all week. We found the liquor to be questionable on some days at the pool and beach bars, but overall, the service was very good. We made a few good friends and the cat park and stopped by to visit Pancho the donkey each day. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this resort to others.

Food was average/ good but it was the same everyday at each restaurant, staff was very attentive and friendly especially Marbella at breakfast she was attentive and communicated well. Alcohol was average at best even for the Royal Elite Members although abundant.

I booked this as a birthday trip for my boyfriend's 30th. My travel agent found this resort within our price range. I didn't really know what to expect because it was both of our first times in Mexico, and it was definitely my first time in a resort environment. Pros: I will say, for the money, it wasn't an overall bad experience. All inclusive dining options and drinks everywhere you went and the room we were in was huge and had a jacuzzi inside! I would say the room (king junior suite) was clean when we got in and bed was very comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly and caring the whole week we were there up until we checked out. I formed a great relationship with Berna, one of the spa associates who would do braids near the family pool. She wasn't pushy in trying to sell me spa packages, unlike some people I repeatedly said no to, and she listened when I told her I wanted to do something nice for my boyfriend because it was his birthday. She really went above and beyond to make sure that our spas were booked, and that we had a reservation (this never would have happened if she didn't go out of her way) at one of the restaurants. She even added a little chocolate cake and champagne to celebrate :) I would come back just to visit her. The Spa was nice. It was my first time in there but it is a very relaxing environment and the staff is friendly. The entertainment every night in the square was lively, and I don't think I was disappointed. Except that time it got rained out, but what can you do? They played a version of deal or no deal, and I happened to get the lucky ticket under my table to go up. I ended up winning the biggest prize of the night: 3 free nights at the resort to use between now and next year ( but it's only for myself, so it wouldn't be free for whoever came with me :/ ) . They seemed a little unprepared for someone winning that prize, because apparently no one ever won it, but they were able to inform me of the next steps and I can now use this whenever I want to. Cons: Our room had a broken fridge so all the refreshments were warm, and we didn't realize this until the second day and it took a while for them to come replace it. When you want to go to one of the finer restaurants, you're not able to make a reservation unless you are a black bracelet member. It was interesting because when we went to the french restaurant on the second night we were there, it was a 30 minute wait ... but there was no one in the restaurant. Apparently the tables were reserved for those special members. We had the blue bracelets which is like the "normal guests" and you were restricted to places you could go, and got turned away if you accidentally sat in an area where only exclusive gold and black bracelet members were allowed. I felt like we were scolded a little, but it was hard to know because the signs are not very visible and blend in too much with the scenery. The excursion sales people (who are affiliated with the resort) are extremely nice, but relentless. I felt anxiety every time I went to go to the pool to relax and the same guy I said no to before, came up to us and started chatting us up again... So just be weary if you're not the kind of person who likes to go on excursions. Overall, it wasn't a bad trip. I would return to playa del carmen, but maybe experience another resort to see the differences.
