West Indies Resort - Intimate and Excellent
RICHARD O.
Feb 25 2019
Had an excellent stay at West Indies Resort. Smaller, more private than the bigger resorts. An amazing beach! Bike and water equipment free. Excellent food at the restaurant. Smaller pools but well maintained. Generally able to get a lounge chair at beach at any time. Pleasant, helpful staff. Overall had a great time!

Resort is very nice it is a paradise to spend week over there. Pelican Restaurant is good but little overpriced. For example bottle of the water was $9.50 at the restaurant and in the store the same water cost only $3.00. Plus Pelican restaurant charged service Fee for everything. But it was worth it for the nice beach and ocean.

The condos were perfect for our group. They were roomy and clean and close to the pool and beach. The beach is exceptional and the water is perfect! The staff, especially Sherman, Eddie and K Jay, were very helpful and friendly. We completely enjoyed our stay and were sad to leave. We would love to go back there every year!

The Hotel is surrounded by Sunshine and lush greenery. There are Palm trees at least 4 types, ferns and blooms even in January. The restaurant and bar are VERY pricey as are most restaurants on the island. We, most unusually as I've heard hit a patch of rainy weather that limited our activities. But my husband and I still wandered around Provo with our rented vehicle. The Conch Farm was also closed due to the hurricane last fall. The climate is to die for, absolutely perfect. All of the aches and pains we had from subzero temperatures in Wisconsin were gone. And the ocean is the most gorgeous aqua one has ever seen.

We enjoyed every second of our stay at the Royal West Indies. We stayed in an oceanview studio. It was clean and comfortable and had gorgeous views of the gardens and the ocean. We enjoyed happy hour every evening from 5-7, with all drinks half-priced. The bar would get pretty busy but we always found a place to sit. The beach was amazing! We were there in early August and it was never really busy. The maids did a wonderful job keeping our room clean and supplied with fresh towels. There were bikes, Hobie Cats, paddle boards, and kayaks that could be used for free in 30-minute increments. We loved reading by the "quiet pool." We will definitely go back!

There is very little negative to say about our trip. The value for the money allowed us to do more once there. The hotel staff was great, the whole island was one big welcome committee, everywhere we went people were so gracious. Even the other guest went out of their way to be nice. Not one bad thing happened during the entire visit.I will recommend this place and Apple vacations to everyone. We came for our 40 anniversary and were not disappointed.

The grounds and rooms of the hotel are beautiful. The resort is near the far end of Grace Bay, which meant things were quiet but we had a fair walk to get to other restaurants and shops. I'd recommend plenty of cash for taxis or just renting a car. The taxis charge per-person, so any group of more than two is definitely better off with a car rental. The casino is right next door, and the hotel offers $10 vouchers for $80-worth of drinks and chips at the casino. The service is very laid-back - they are happy to help, but not in a rush. The beach is lovely and the hotel provides beach gear for free.

The hotel was exactly what we had expected. Affordable clean and comfortable. The wifi worked great throughout the facility and the beach was outrageous. Check in and out was quick and overall we found the locals excellent. We never felt unsafe walking not having rented a car. Don't really feel one was necessary. Caicos Dream tours provided a great snorkeling trip

The hotel was great and very comfortable. Washer & dryers in rooms and they gave you one load of soap was a big bonus so we could pack much lighter. The food was very good and the hotel was in a perfect location with a great beach compared to the stretch of beach at Grace Bay. The only minor negative was the beach guys were somewhat hesitant to let the kayak and hobie cat out. You have to be very demanding to get them to get it in the water. Probably because most people use it and have no clue how to sail so I could understand their hesitation. Otherwise I would definitely stay there again. It in a perfect location.

Nice relaxing stay

We spent six nights at RWI in late March/early April with our three year old in a one bedroom suite. We were in building three, on the second floor, which meant our ocean view was only partial and pretty far away, though I was fine with that. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. The resort itself is pretty family friendly and right on the beach. The restaurant: The restaurant on the resort is pretty good but limited in my opinion. The fish tacos were excellent and the food is mostly of good quality. They also have a couple of theme nights where there is live music that seemed excellent though we never had dinner there. There are some other restaurants within walking distance. Coco bistro and Cocovan are just down the street. There are also a couple of restaurants at the grace bay club (the next resort over) and that immediate area that are open to the public. You can also access the grace bay club to dine by walking down the beach to the next resort if you don’t want to walk on the street. We rented a car and in addition to this drove around to different restaurants. Driving was not difficult here and not expensive compared to the cost of everything else. The beach: We thought coming in that grace bay beach would be very calm every day. However, of the 6 nights we were there the water was relatively calm on just one of them. The other days it was windy and the waves were significant. By the third windy day we decided to explore for other beaches though not having access to a free chair and umbrella once you leave the resort is an inconvenience. If the water gets choppy and you have small children, I recommend long bay beach or sepodilla beach which are very shallow and very calm. Long bay beach is about 8 minutes away driving while sepodilla is closer to 30 minutes.

Nice quiet place to relax

We loved our visit to Royal West Indies Resort, the two bedroom condo we had was really nice. Two minor issues though. When booking I thought we were going to be closer to the beach. I did ask for ocean view and that’s about all we had, a view. Also, with only one restaurant we were forced to pay exorbitant cab fares to go to other resort restaurants, and all were better than the Pelican Bay restaurant. The waiter. AtPelucan Bay was very slow and not very friendly, which had a lot to do with us seeking other eating establishments. On the plus side, Oneccia, one of the desk people, went way out of her way from the day we booked our stay. She booked all of our activities before we arrived and even got us a later check out when we left. She was amazing and deserves a lot of the credit for our stay that week. Thank you Oneccia!!

If you dont like cigarette smoke, book elsewhere!

While the resort itself is lovely, well maintained, and rooms generous and well equipped- if you do not like cigarette smoke, I highly suggest you book elsewhere. It is not a smoke free property. We booked a beautiful oceanfront suite, but our neighbor smoked all day long- so we had to keep our patio doors closed. Called management multiple times but it was never resolved as it is allowed on balconies. Truly a bummer.

What a find this place is. We found it less imposing than many of the larger hotel properties and it’s a lovely place to bring your children. We had a suite in building #2 with a lovely ocean view from our balcony. The rooms are generous in size, and have a well appointed kitchen. We rode bikes to the local supermarket, and ran out of time before sailing on the hobie cat (included in the price of your room). You are steps away from a prime spot on one of the best beaches in the world with turquoise waters beckoning. There are plenty of beach lounge chairs with protective umbrellas (no worries about getting up early to reserve a spot). Staff are friendly and helpful.

Great place for a vacation!

RWI is located right on beautiful Grace Bay beach. It is a relatively small, garden-style condo resort. Clean, quiet, well-maintained with beautiful landscaping, 2 very nice pools and an onsite restaurant and bar. The staff is friendly and the location was great. Even though we were here in high season the resort was not crowded and was very relaxing. I highly recommend it!
