Wow what a place , better than I remembered!

I visited this hotel in September with my parents for two weeks, i had previously stayed here six years a go and had a fabulous time then and definitely wanted to revisit. I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews ( as the hotel has changed hands since my last stay ) but I can honestly say I had an absolutely fantastic time and wasn’t disappointed in any way , I would actually say I had a better time now. The hotel is smaller in comparison to others but definitely not to be over looked, you get more of a personal service here. Each villa has their own conceige who is there to make sure you have a wonderful stay and book your evening meals with , huge thank you to Jose Cordova who looked after us daily for two weeks. The rooms are very clean and spacious ( we had 3 adults in one room) and well equipped with everything you need, as others have said the mini bar is not very cold but still cool drinks and option of getting ice to your room is there , plus you are never far away from a bar. There are a lot of activities here if you want to participate but you are not hassled in anyway if you don’t want to join in , would recommend the daily aqua aerobics with Jonathan ( helps keep those extra pounds off ! ) and the gym is well equipped if you fancy being energetic with a nice quiet pool just outside. The food here is excellent and a great choice of restaurants. Breakfast & lunch at the deck were always great , Christian and his team are very welcoming and extremely helpful & accomodating, huge thank you to Jhanelly , Deyanira, Arely, Fernando , Monica , Santiago , Jose and everyone for looking after us everyday. Head Chef Alejandro , this man is a culinary genius and a fantastic asset to the hotel , thank you so much for making our holiday extra special with a personalised Thai banquet. Thank you to Sergio and his team in the Grill and Spices , nothing was too much trouble we were always made to feel very special each visit. The staff at this hotel are an absolute credit to the company and were a delight to get to know everyday , we left here feeling like family. Thank you so much to everyone here who made this one of best holidays and given us memories for a long time . Just to thank some more people- Shaira Caceres, Genaro , Daniel , Eliseo , Miguel ,Rogelio , chef Isaias & chef Yunnem and Ray in the spices just to name a few. I would not hesitate in booking this hotel and can’t wait to visit again soon.

Besides our forgotten Kindle, Another amazing stay at Royal Hideaway PDC!

Overall another excellent stay at the Royal Hideaway! We arrived early Friday October 5th to excellent weather and were greeted right away by bellhops to take our bags and give us a welcome glass of champagne. Reception honored our request for a ground floor room, which was greatly appreciated. The grounds are perfect. Lush with plants, wildlife, and overall well maintained. Our room was right behind the main pool (2717). We never experienced any problems with noise from either the pools at Royal Hideaway or noise from neighboring hotels. The room was very clean, has every amenity. Only thing I would mention is the Jacuzzi tub is very small. The pools are very nice. Clean, well kept, well serviced. We mostly hung out around the main pools as they were right by our room. We never had a problem finding a place to sit, getting towels, food, or drinks. Wait staff near the pools and beach were excellent. Very nice, remember your drinks and favorite foods, and always willing to try and help you. A shout out to Luis and Rodrigo. They were so helpful! The beach is vast, clean, excellent. We stayed during a period of strong weather so the sea turned up a lot of sand, but other than that, it was great. Warm water, clean beach. Didn't experience any seaweed like other people complained about. We only ate at Azia and Palazzo. Azia was great (think Osaka for those of you from the US), Palazzo not so much. Limited menu, bland food. After that we stuck to the Grill, the Deck, or room service. Room service is excellent. We did have a few small complaints but nothing major. I'll explain: 1. On one night we received a phone call for a noise complaint from our room at 1:30AM. On this particular night we were in bed by 8:30PM, asleep by 9:00PM. I was really startled by the call and wish the staff would have done a bit of investigating before immediately calling us. We spoke to another couple from our villa who said they heard the noise as well, but not from our room. 2. Wake up calls did not seem reliable. Always 5-10 minutes late. 3. We set up our checkout for 11:00AM so bellhops could come get our bags as we had a scheduled private transfer at 11:30AM. We had to call twice to get them to our room, and almost missed our transfer because of it. 4. My fiance accidentally left her Kindle in our room after we departed. We emailed/called staff and have received no response as to whether or not someone found it, how to get it back, ect. After doing a bit of research I've found that it's generally hard to get a hold of someone unless you are there or have a pending stay.

Excellent hotel with lovely staff. Good restaurants with a wide selection of food. Comfy beds.Situated on a lovely beach front. Special mention to Jonathan who organised the swimming exercise in the pool which we did for the first time and was great fun.

Anniversary Trip

We recently returned from a short 4 day anniversary trip at the beginning of October. We were here 4 years ago and had a great time and decided to try it again. The service was impeccable, actually better than our first time. Our concierge, Jorge, was wonderful and so helpful! He booked everything including the spa (pricey, but perfect massages!) for us and even arranged trailing rose petals, champagne, a fresh fruit basket and a really pretty towel art display on our bed while we were at dinner our first evening. Our room fridge was only stocked the very first day. It didn't really keep anything cold so we didn't ask for a restock. The service by the pool was great and very prompt. Everyone was always friendly and had a smile on their face! The restaurants were delicious, our favorites being Azia and The Grill, the Italian restaurant was our least favorite. The beach was beautiful, soft white sand, very clean. The water was pretty much unusable due to the seaweed and smell. It had a stench when you walked up to the waters edge and was brown for the first 50-100 feet or so. This was in NO WAY the hotel's fault of course and they even had men raking seaweed each morning and hauling it away. It was disappointing since we knew the water was gorgeous from our stay 4 years ago. Hopefully the seaweed problem up and down the coast will clear up soon! The only reason I gave this property a 4 out of 5 was for a few reasons that aren't huge, but did make a difference to us. We are in our early 40's and we felt very young there. If I had to guess, the average hotel guest age would be about 55-60. There wasn't a whole lot of activities to do during the day and the show at night in the theater was not advertised well at all. While they weren't Vegas caliber shows, they were entertaining and gave us something to do each night after dinner. The pools are showing their age. There was a lot of black mold in the grout, lots of the pool jets weren't working, loose, broken and missing tiles throughout. You can tell there was grout work done along the steps at one time, but you can see where the excess wasn't wiped off and is smeared all over the dark blue tiles making it look very sloppy. Only a couple of the showers to rinse off by the beach were working and there were even faucets missing and/or laying on the ground. The hot tubs closest to the beach were very dirty and cold. When they did play music by the pool, it was instrumental piano elevator type music. I guess with the age of the hotel guests this was ok, but my husband and I found it very boring and not very "beachy" and would have liked some more contemporary, upbeat music played. Our room was extremely warm and stuffy, never getting below 24.5 degrees Celcius (76 degrees). The room was very nice and well appointed though! Always had turn down service each evening and cleaned well each day. Room service was prompt as well. The only other thing we did notice was reserving of pool chairs by the same couples and groups each day. You could tell by their comments they were returning guests from multiple visits and were favored very heavily by the staff. There was even one group who would not order off the menu in the main beach restaurant and would have the chef personally bring out special appetizers and meals to them table side. Overall, we had a wonderful and relaxing time and enjoyed our trip very much! Not sure if we will return since we did feel out of place age wise, but not due to the service! That was top notch!

4yr Anniversary at Beautiful Royal Hideaway

My wife and I returned back to the royal hideaway to spend our 4-yr anniversary. We came to RH for our honeymoon and fell in love with the resort & spa during our 7-day stay. Coming back was always on our agenda and this Sept. 2018 we returned. I can say with certainty that they have only gotten better if that was at all possible. The food, service and grounds are all 5-stars! If you are looking to unplug from you busy lives and just relax then this place is for you. See you soon RH!!
