It was very difficult to get two chairs at the infinity pool. However, I prefer the beach, so it wasn’t a big problem for me.

we vacationedt o Royal Playacar for the first time in February 2018 with friends. It was easy to check in, make reservations for dinners, and access to the beach. The rooms were clean and the individual concierge in each building was lovely. We used room service twice and the meals were timely and hot. Every service team member added to our experience from beginning to end. The drivers at the airport, service staff, cleaning crew, entertainment, and spa staff made our short trip extremely relaxing and enjoyable.

My wife and I were extremely pleased with our stay. We had been to Hawaii several times and we were worried this wouldn't be as nice. However, the place was very clean, the beach was very nice(although the seaweed was a little much on our last day), and we enjoyed the food. My only complaint is similar to other people. The dinner reservation isn't good. We saw the reviews and lowered our expectation expectation, but still was disappointed in the restaurants we were able to get. However, the food was good everywhere.

We found excellent service and fabulous food at this hotel! It was quiet and relaxing and close to downtown if you wanted to walk about 10 minutes. The pools were clean and beachfront windy but very nice. We enjoyed all 5 restaurants serving ala carte meals and not buffets! We also liked having a spa and gym on the premises. We were very pleased with this hotel and will be going back!

the beach was great, rooms, service an opportunity. Could not get a reservation to eat 1st night, reservation messed up 4th night, manager did little to resolve. Told could not wear jeans, even though website simply said long pants. Wilber at Azia Restaurant excellent - resolved our many issues there when hostess and manager did not. Not pleased overall with experience when compared to Apple rating.

DISAPPOINTING & OVER PRICED
GAILBirmingham, BIRMINGHAM
Mon Feb 18 01:09:52 EST 2019
We booked a 14 day stay to celebrate my husbands birthday and wanted the experience to be a special event. Unfortunately it was not, there was nothing ‘Royal’ about it at all. A lot of the reviews here are from Americans / Canadians who are only there for 5-7 days, we are from the UK & staying 14 days gives more room for the errors to be noticed. But the whole point of this review is that there should not be errors when you are paying this sort of price. As the first All Inclusive resort to be named one of the Leading Hotels of the World, promising "the best of the best" for service, quality, & accommodations we were disappointed to say the least. Here is what we experienced - ROOM – WRONG ROOM / NO HOT WATER / SMELLY BATHROOM DRAIN / KEY CARD FAILED TWICE. We checked in on 25.01.19.. We were advised our email request had been honoured & we had a top floor garden view room. On arrival at the room we discovered it was not top floor at all but on the middle floor. The bathroom floor was soaking wet and maintenance were in there checking to see there was hot water. We refused this room & accepted room 3133. The next morning (26.01.19) at 7.00am there was no hot water to shower and the bathroom smelt strongly of stagnant water. The hot water was on at 9.00am however at 7.00pm that evening it was cold again. The morning of 27.01.19 and the water was still cold. We reported this to Miguel our Concierge along with the problem of the drain smell. The drain continued to smell and over the next 3 days was reported again to Miguel & directly to the cleaning lady & finally reception. We were advised we would have to move room & it may be in a different block. We did not want the hassle of moving so I went to the supermarket & purchased bathroom cleaner, cleaned the drain myself & although the smell did not disappear it was far better. (This still needs attention) We also had a problem with the room key card failing twice. POOL AREA We felt the pool area could be cleaner. The tables between the beds were not wiped over daily & left sticky. For the first 4 days there was a dirty scum line around the pool water edge & bits floating in the water. This was cleaned / skimmed more frequently in the following 10 days but did not make a good first impression. The flooring also needs replacing in several areas where the tiles have pitted & worn leaving sharp bits, painful on bare feet. Some of the plastic glasses in use are chipped around the rim, very unhygienic & not the expected 5* quality. There also appears to be a shortage of appropriate glasses which resulted in beer served in a red wine glass! BREAKFAST / LUNCH As nice a location as the Deck/Grill is, it was very windy - blowing the cornflakes off your spoon. (Same menu for 14 days at lunch, Spices not open) We breakfasted at 7.45 most mornings when it was quiet and found the service to be inconsistent, sometimes having to wait 15 minutes for service. The tea & coffee was not always hot. One morning I was served English breakfast tea in a large milk jug as they could not find a tea pot !! Again not what you would expect in a 5* establishment. Also the bacon & eggs ran out on 3 occasions. We had problems lunch time, having to wait 15 minutes+ for service or having 3 waiters take our order. Confusing. I spoke with Christian several times regarding service & he apologised profusely. On the third occasion asking where we would be dining that evening (palazzo) as he would make it special. Nothing ‘special’ happened. We did not pay to receive apologies, we paid for 5* food & service – hot tea & coffee served in the correct china should not be too much to ask. EVENING MEALS THE GRILL – Twice we had the same waiter who’s objective seems to be to get you out as quickly as possible. Towards the end of our meal he asked my husband if he would like more wine, he refused. The waiter removed his empty glass & also mine which was still half full & not finished ! Another evening the same waiter removed my husbands dinner plate & asked if he wanted dessert when I was still eating my main course ! 5* service ? In the evening the food goes cold quickly as it is so windy there. When we asked for the window blinds to be lowered one evening to provide some shelter, the request was refused. The table cloths were billowing like sails. LAS VENTANAS - Twice we had the same waiter who was not interested.. He did not offer cucumber or lemon with the water or clear the bread crumbs from the table as the other waiters did. He brought my husband the wrong starter on both occasions & my warm scallops were cold. We did mention this to the maitre’d who again apologised profusely & after taking our room number advised he would make sure our meal at the theatre the next evening would be special. Again nothing ‘special’ happened. SPICES – This was not open for the a la carte breakfast or lunch. The evening meal service was good but the food pretty awful. We tried it twice & did not enjoy either meal. ENTERTAINMENT Better communication about what is happening would be helpful. We had an animation timetable for the first week but not the second. However what was advertised did not seem to happen during the day. (I would have loved to see a Mariachi band, we are in Mexico after all) As the first All Inclusive resort to be named one of the Leading Hotels of the World, promising "the best of the best" for service, quality, & accommodations we were disappointed to say the least. Do you consider any of the above to be 5* quality ? I do not believe we received "the best of the best" as promised. This hotel did not meet our expectations for the money charged, there was nothing Royal about it. THE GOOD POINTS I would like to add we received excellent food & service at Palazzo and visited 5 times. The pool staff were very good as were the bar staff in Allegro & the drinks good quality & well made. (Magnolia, Riccardo, Daniel & Lorenzo - Thank you) We never had a problem with pool chairs or towels but I also understand the hotel was only half full. The evening entertainment was good & started around 10.00pm so you did not miss it if you had a later dinner. That's it, you pay your money, you take your chance !

A beautiful hotel in a fabulous setting. Gardens pool and beach are excellent. The rooms are spacious but despite them seemingly being the same some have better locations than others. Choose well. The restaurants are excellent and varied but book as soon as you arrive. The drinks quality for fully inclusive is first class. The pools are good but sun loungers can be crowded and many reserve their spots for the day in the early morning. As the whole area is gated you feel safe at all times and you can walk into Playa del Carmen for shopping. There were some teething issues especially at reception. Welcome, farewell and resolution of problems were poor.Water supply breakdown was a pain on a couple of days. Torrential downpour one day caused some room flooding problems as well. Overall however it was a lovely holiday providing in a paradise setting.

This was our 6th stay at the Royal Hideaway and we'll keep coming back for years to come. Intimate resort where everyone is friendly, helpful & Happy. The food is beyond awesome, not just awesome for an "all-inclusive" but awesome for any 5 star restaurant. The rooms are fantastic, the pools, beach and amenities are perfect. Go here, you won't regret it.

Awesome Adults Only Resort!

I don't know where to begin. I definitely enjoyed the customer service here and can't say enough how well this place treated us. Upon arriving, we were greeted and quickly taken to check-in and were given champagne while we waited. After being checked-in we were taken to our room at one of the villas. Each villa has their own concierge, and after reading reviews from others, I quickly became familiar with our concierge and made reservations for dinner for that night as well as for the remainder of our stay. They have a few different restaurants, Italian, Asian, Mexican, Spanish and American. They do ask that you dress formal for dinner, except at the American Grill. By no means do they want you in a suit and tie, but no flip flops. Our concierge was awesome and gave us things to do at the resort for that week. The resort is beautiful and has a few pools through out. We stayed near the main pool, but mostly took advantage of relaxing on the beach. This place is very chill, laid back and relaxing. The spa service is not too bad as well. The massage was nice and about the same as for what I would pay at Mario Tricoci's. I would've preferred if they had a sauna for couples, by no means was this a disappointment, but after the massage, sitting with my significant other in the sauna would've been nice. As I mentioned, the customer service was awesome. I felt like they took into consideration any issues or concerns that you brought to their attention and quickly resolved without any hesitation. The 24-hour room service is awesome and the wait staff at the grill near the main pool and beach were amazing. I do want to point out that this was not like The Yucatan Princess where the vacationers there were mostly the "spring break" crowd. This place was more relaxed and had older group of people, so don't expect to do "spring break" like activities. I've read other reviews complaining about A/C issues in the rooms. Our room had zero issues. The A/C worked fine. I can't speak about the pool area and reserving chairs because I was there to enjoy the beach not the pool. We never had a problem getting a chair(s) on the beach and the staff was always willing to help setup or move the chairs where you asked.

Restaurant Reservations Problem

The overall stay was good. The weather did not cooperate but the place was good with one exception. For dinner reservations, we were told to do that when we arrived. We attempted to do so at check in but were told we had to make reservations with our concierge in our villa. Problem with that is that he was rarely there and did not follow through when he was. Very dissatisfied with that process.
