Good beach, good food - not great service

1st time at this location. 10th time in the area. Nice rooms, good beach. Quality of food was excellent - when we could get it. Renovations at the time that impacted our stay. Not pleased with service. 1st night there we could not get a reservation at any of the restaurants. Also - told jeans not allowed even though this was not stated during reservations for the trip. Then saw another guest in jeans at a restaurant. 4th night, our reservation was messed up and we could not sit at hibachi table. Most alarming was the hostesses lack of trying to rectify the situation - she simply blamed the concierge. Last morning could not have breakfast at Las Ventanas - no one to serve at 7:07 even though it opened at 7am. Had to walk across the resort to Spices. One huge bright spot was Wilber at Asias oriental restaurant. On both the 1st and 4th night he expertly resolved the errors made by others and what could have been a poor situation ended well solely because of him. When the hostess did nothing on the 4th night, Wilber stepped in and provided a solution. Even the manager did not really show remorse - only Wilber went above and beyond. Being in a service industry - he should be well recognized. I would be honored to have someone with his passion for customers on my team. David at the beach and Javier our concierge overall were attentive as well. Good service from the bellmen also. While we still enjoyed our vacation due to being with great friends, the experience fell well short of our expectations. We will stick with Iberostar resorts as after 6 visits we have never been less than highly satisfied with their above and beyond service across the board.

No need to look for another hotel Even though there was construction it had zero impact on our stay Beach was quiet (compared to the other over crowded resorts we walked by) Booked our next trip back already!

We've stayed at a few different resorts in Mexico and had a variety of different experiences - from resorts that are highly active to more laid back/relaxed. We are in our mid- thirties and enjoy a balance of doing nothing on the beach, some entertainment in the evening and med level of activities. What I loved about the Royal Hideaway was that it was the perfect balance of all of those - wasn't too quiet and boring or too loud and "activity" based. They were doing some renovations so they have only 4 restaurants open - however the food and service was great! Tip : Go to Spices for lunch but avoid it for dinner. Palazzo, Azia and Ventana were the best for dinner. Reserve a few days before your trip and if you need to pick a restaurant for more than one night Palazzo is definitely one you want to go to at least twice. Rooms are great (if you get the newly renovated room) - even their basic standard room was better than most resorts. The beach was great - plenty of chairs and I never had to wake up early to secure a place. The beach was clean and swimmable. The other advantage is that 5th ave is only 20 min walk and right across the hotel is a great shopping market. So you can get both the resort/relaxed feel or venture into town if you want more and its totally safe to walk around. We loved this place and have already decided to go back next year!!

Great place, rooms are beautiful, staff is wonderful, beach is amazing, entertainment is great fun. Can't say enough good things. We wanted for nothing and were not harassed once to buy anything. I will return.

My wife and I just visited over Thanksgiving. We weren't sure what to expect, but were overwhelmed with everything. The service was great, the beach was great, the food was the best ever! We had a great time relaxing on the beach and enjoying everything it had to offer. I highly recommend this place if you want a relaxing get away.
