Middle of the road resort needs major updates at Quiet Pool
DEBORAH M.
Oct 30 2018
I have been to this resort a few times. The staff is good but there needs to be major updates in the cottages. They need small refrigerators in the rooms. In the evening if you bring a beverage, there are no ice machines and if you get a couple cups of ice from the bar they melt quickly. If they won't but refrigerators in the room, they can at least provide ice machines in the lobby. The quiet pool needs major cleaning. There is scum on the side walls and the tiles grout is black. The water was clean but that was about it. The bar at the quiet pool was staffed now and then. The employees would walk back and forth and socialize with other workers. Granted the pool is not as crowded as the other areas but they are paid to be at the bar and serve the quests. The food was mediocre and items that should be hot were lukewarm or cold. Food choices were limited and not all that great. In the morning I tried to go to the beach to relax and read and the landscaping crews were out constantly raking the sand and socializing with their friends. I had to actually move as they were moving chairs around and I could not enjoy the beach after breakfast. The pools don't open till 10am so you would want to go to the beach and enjoy that area and that was nearly impossible. If they are rearranging chairs for whatever reason it should not take two hours. Also they were tearing up the floor of one of the bars and if you wanted to sit near the bar you heard saws, hammering all day long. I understand they have to update or fix items at the resort but the guests that had cottages on the beach had to listen to that all day as well. You should not have to pay for wifi in this day and age. That should be changed as well. Most resorts have free wifi. They used to have some name brand liquors, that was not the case this time. The liquor offered was nothing I had ever really heard of. They need to change that as well. we all don't want to drink Red Stripe beer the whole time we are there. If you want a modern resort this would not be a good choice.

Don't get me wrong ... we love the resort. We have been there 5 times but this most recent visit we saw a decline in the entertainment and food. The buffet had theme nights but only one or two items would change. The bar help made the vacation a great success.

There is no other place where you can have your own little cottage on the beach for this price. Location was surreal. Food was so good, drinks were great. I am already planning on returning!

cold water shower

It is a 3 star location, that being said, the cottage had a faulty hot water heater that kept tripping the breaker and leaving us with cold water showers. It took the hotel 6 nights before they would move us to another room, seems they thought that we didn't know how to regulate the water temperature. HOWEVER, the rest of the staffing, bar tenders, wait staff, cooks, maintenance guys, were tops, very polite and helpful.

Mediocre Food and Liquor
DEBORAH M.
Nov 27 2017
Food was cool to cold at the buffet. The only hot food you received was when it was served by the chefs at separate carving stations. Liquor at the bar was not any brands I had ever heard of. They used to serve Jack Daniels and Jim Beam but that was nowhere to be found. A lot of construction was going on and I was not told that a snack restaurant had been moved to an upper level location. Another guest told me. The hotel is ok but they need to improve the food and also the liquor selection

Bad experience

Did not get room we requested. Had to wait 2 1/2 hours for room. Room was 1960 style no coffee pot no fridge and they only give you one bottle of water which you have to go refill at the bar. Very noisy and smell of sewer. When it rained which was often you had no cover on your patio. No smoking except designated areas.

We loved our ocean view cottage. The food is amazing and the staff are so sweet. This resort is basic but in the right way, it has all of the stuff you need. Great quiet pool and the beach areas were wonderful. We will be returning next year for sure.

3 Star Rating With 5 Star Service
GREGORY F.
Jan 15 2017
My wife and I loved every aspect of this all inclusive property. The view was 5 star, the service was 5 star and the food and drinks were very good. Maid service was 5 star. This property is beautiful and very well kept. We had a one room suite. It had a separate bedroom which is perfect especially when travelling with kids. This was a very unique experience as 90 percent of the rooms were individual units with air conditioning and many with ocean and garden views. I would highly recommend this property. Again, the rating for this property is 3 star but I would give it 5 star for service.

We have never encountered the high quality of staff anywhere else. You feel more like an extended part of their family and not just another guest. Next trip we become official "Jamericans".

Not the best value for money

To be fair not the worst place I have stayed, but accommodation is tired but in a lovely location, Food is quite cold and not everyone’s taste and the service in the dining room is mostly very poor, staff will introduce you as your waiter/ waitress for the evening that just means you get some water and one drink from the bar, not good enough in my opinion. If you want salt and pepper you have to source for yourself. Strict portion control on meat, which I found a nightmare as I only eat chicken. Lifeguards are constantly drinking and smoking on duty, which was a concern, hiding in corners to not be seen. Entertainment ok, but standard resort stuff, some shows excellent, like steel drums and dancing but padded out at times. Drinks ok but very small glasses, so you have to order more than 1 at a time. Staff not overly friendly unless you are willing to tip, especially when there are lots of Jamaicans in resort and then You get totally ignored and the buffet restaurant has no food at all, very slow to replenish dishes, one day I walked around with just my ration of chicken and not even any rice. Trips are VERY expensive and I got ripped off booking though the hotel desk, booked a trip that didn’t happen and still got charged 30dollars as driver had to be paid. I think it is what it is, I paid a lot for the holiday and expected more but on the plus side, we had lots of space in resort, didnt have any illness and came home with a good suntan, but to be honest Jamaica is fine while your spending cash, on AI I got the impression they didn’t have to bother. More a family friendly resort than couples. Personally I would spend the extra and to RIU in Montego Bay to get better service and food. I can’t say that I didn’t have a good time, but I’m very self sufficient and do my own thing and make the best of what I have to be honest, it didn’t warrant what we spent on the trip. At best this is 3 star accommodation and you will pay extra for safe and WIFI. Beach huts are in great location but don’t expect any finery, it’s a bed and bathroom, old bathroom at that, very basic facilities, although I upgraded to the beach, great but not near the jetty bar, as too noisy at night. It’s safe to go outside the resort but you will attract attention from everyone and I payed a whopping £8 dollars for a bag of crisps, which you can’t buy on resort. Trips are not really worth the money but would recommend the trip to the lagoon, as you can’t see this everywhere in the world. Cool runnings trip, not worth the money and don’t buy into the Mobay lounge..... food is terrible, sangster airport had loads of space and facilities, you don’t need the lounge at 30 dollars per person. I hope this helps some people to make a decision, please. Contact me if you need specific information. I had an ok 2weeks but for over £4000 I expected better

A tale of two places

Please read before you go. My husband and I stayed here for 10 nights and the first thing you notice on the way to the hotel is the poverty on the roadside. I enjoyed the food, but my husband hated it. Not your everyday food but, plenty of it. The staff are the best you could ask for and nothing is too much. The bungalow we had was really spacious and the best comfortable bed I have ever had when on holiday, it was cleaned everyday to a very good standard. Unfortunately the mosquitoes thought I was a walking meal so be prepared for them. Trips out are expensive to go on, but good bargains can be got. A really beautiful place that gets very hot, but when it rains, it rains heavily . Be aware of the nighttime noises (treefrogs apparently)make a lot of noise.

Amazing

This was a first trip to Jamaica for my hustand and myself and it didn't disappoint. We stayed in a beach hut and whilst it was basic it was clean and tidy and cleaned everyday, apart from the odd couple of staff who could of smiled a bit more everyone was friendly and helpful, there was plenty of food to choose from and even my husband who is a very fussy eater found something to eat. As this was our anniversary the hotel staff even left us a bottle of champagne in our room. The only thing i could pick fault with during our stay like others was the wifi, as our beach hut was down the end away from reception area we couldn't get a signal unless we were more central on site, but on the whole it was a very enjoyable stay and would definitely go back.

Still good value

I took three UK friends for the weekend after they had been to Kingston on business. All loved the individual cottage concept although in fact we were given room #408 in the tall block by the quiet pool. This room was extremely spacious with two bedrooms which could have slept a family. Loved the jetty bar which has been expanded over the years to have its own large patio. The food could have been better, tough meat and not well presented. We tried the Jasmine Thai restaurant and again the food was disappointing, hardly Thai, though a lovely ambiance, spoiled by the radio station playing instead of nice background music. The quiet pool is very appealing as there is music playing elsewhere. Staff could be a bit more polished but they worked hard and kept the place and beach looking good. Will be back as I have been coming here for nearly 50 years. Big drawback is the extra charge for internet, which never worked for me.

I was a guest for 10 days in this structure. the hotel is very clean and welcoming. spacious bungalows with comfortable bed with daily cleaning. the garden all around very nice. my compliments to the waiters very attentive and helpful, especially Ricardo Mckenzie very professional and attentive to every little thing. Every morning for an impeccable breakfast in his work until lunchtime. all the employees very kind and helpful, always with a smile and a good word for all the customers of the hotel. my favorite bartender at the beach was Odette always punctual and tidy to freshen up the day at the beach. I'm feeling with a family. The animation was good especially the evenings with the show of very professional dancers. the only thing that is negative about the hotel and the lack of wifi that is only paid and very slow unreachable in all points of the structure. A service that is free everywhere now. a negative note not on the hotel but on the German tour operator that was not efficient on the transfer from the airport to the hotel, with wrong telephone numbers and little availability and professionalism by the frau Nora little interested in my discomfort of not having found the transfer bus to the hotel and after paying a taxi, his only purpose was to sell me packages of excursions.very sad !!!
