All Inclusive

Ever since it opened as the original RIU Resort in Riviera Maya, Riu Yucatan has been a leading choice for families and couples! Themed in an early Mexican Colonial style, the resort features a lobby modeled after an authentic Mexican town with hand-painted frescos of flowers, angels, and clouds. Relax beneath one of the many palm trees sprinkled along the white sand beach, or enjoy the array of watersports in the clear waters of the Caribbean.

Four restaurants feature a variety of dining choices. The Hacienda Restaurant extends to a terrace amidst jungle greenery, offering a great variety of tantalizing buffets and on-the-spot cooking. Guests are sure to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Margarita's specialty restaurant, as they dine alongside the large pool area and take part in the delightful theme nights. Shanghai, the Asian restaurant, serves amazing buffets. Snacks are available 24-hours a day and the five bars, including two swim-up bars, serve unlimited drinks.

Activities abound at this non-stop resort! Enjoy watersports such as kayaking or body boarding, or venture over to the 18-hole golf course nearby! For a soothing experience, sip a sunset cocktail in one of four bars or pamper yourself at Renova Spa. Complimentary 24-hour WiFi is also available in the common areas of the resort (available in rooms for an additional charge).

Every evening, live entertainment, and music provide the perfect show right before heading off to bed. Riu Yucatan has exchange privileges with Riu Tequila and Riu Playacar (dinner dining excluded), so entertainment is never in short supply!

Our room wasn't the best. It's one thing to be an old hotel, but just upkeep in our room was poor. The door was scuffed, the bathroom mirror was chopped in places. Our fridge needed to be wiped down. The shower drained really slow. The upkeep on the room was poor. Looks like things were tended to, b .. More>

Everything about Riu Yucatan and Frontier flight was good. However we bought transportation to and from the airport. The Amstar woman who met with us to tell us what time the return would be was late, rude and basically gave us misinformation. Her name was Irena and she was horrible. .. More>

We were struck by the fact that every employee we walked past, whether mainenance or housekeeping or dining, smiled and said 'hola'. We felt very welcomed. The hotel was immaculate. We stayed at the Yucatan in 2009. We loves I then. Decided to go back and wish we would have just kept our good memories. We didn't like the renovations. It was not friendly and homey. The pool chairs were placed in every available spot. No room to move..no tables. I did like the covers ove .. More>

The food at the sit down restaurants could be much better, the food in the buffets were very good. The hotel pool bar needs extra attention to cleaning. I understand that there is a lot of traffic which causes extra debri floating around. Also no kids should be playing/swimming in the pool bar. Thi .. More>

Just returned from a 2 week holiday here and got to say I thought it was fab. This was my second trip to Mexico and it did not disappoint . The Hotel is nestled with palm trees and other greenery as it was part of the jungle and each morning our alarm clock was the Monkeys and Birds early morning calls. A lot of the monkeys had just had babies and this was lovely to see the babies on their mothers backs, if you love wild life this is the place for you as the large lizards just roam around regardless and plenty of other furry animals roam around most of the day. The staff at this hotel are amazing and can't do enough for you ( very hard working. great service from Carmon in Ibiza pool bar,Miguel from steak house and our waiter Alex from buffet restaurant who always had a smile on his face The entertainment team are so enthusiastic even though they work very long hours big up for Brownie, Tony and Johnny. The food was very good have no complaints there, great variety and I was also invited to inspect the kitchens which were very clean and hygienic. Our room was great and overlooked the palm trees and had a great balcony to sit and watch the wild life. Totally recommend this Hotel it is right on the beach with barbecues most days for lunch and cocktails while laying on your sunbeds. I would say the only downside was the very loud and rowdy Americans/Canadians in the lobby bar but even they shut up after a while. Special Note to the Managers and Directors instead of walking around the hotel not saying a word go up too your guests and say Hi and perhaps have a little chat because at the end of the day it is just plain courtesy... Wonderful holiday for the best reasons....

This was our first visit to Mexico, and thankfully we chose this wonderful hotel. The turquoise Caribbean and white sandy beach were spectacular, but what made this holiday so special was the fantastic warm welcome and service from each and every member of staff. We have travelled to many destinations, to hotels of varying 'star' ratings and qualities - and we can honestly say that the people working at the Riu Yucatan were the best ever. From the smiles and greetings we received each and every day to the enthusiasm and hard work of the 'animation' team - we were blown away by this group of hotel workers. Their managers should be extremely proud of them. Why then, four stars instead of five? Bedrooms are very slightly tired, although public areas have all been refurbished to a high level. Saying that, we spent very little time in our rooms! I would love to return to this hotel - and take all my family - as there is truly something for all ages on offer here. Real value for money Caribbean. More>

Lovely hotel with good facilities. Very friendly, helpful staff. Bedroom was clean but felt rather damp and was quite basic. Unfortunately it didn't have a south facing balcony so we didn't want to sit out there in the shade. The hotel was in a great location right on the gorgeous beach and not too far to walk into the resort town of Playa del Carmen. The food on the whole was good and a lot of choice at every meal, although lunchtime was the same foods every day. The Asian restaurant was dreadful, nothing much Asian about it! The Italian was our favourite but only had a limited menu. The steak and Mexican restaurants were very good. Breakfast was our favourite meal if the day with so much choice. All drinks were branded and having optics in the room you really could drink 24/7 (not that we did!!) Wifi access as a bit disappointing (free wifi only available in reception) Would have been nice yo have waiter service on the beach as we have experienced in other inclusive results around the globe., More>

Shiny silver and pink

We used the restaurant and pool at the Riu Yucatan several times while staying at the Riu Tequila, and took the opportunity to have a good look round and compare hotels. The facilities of the Riu Yucatan, Riu Playacar and Riu Tequila are shared during the day so you can use them all freely. This was great as both the Yucatan and Playacar are on the beach while the Tequila is a 10 minutes walk away (or a few minutes ride in their buggy). The Riu Yucatan is a very modern design, it's all very angular and blocky. The decor inside is bright shiny silver and deep pink, which you can either take as ultra stylish or (as we did) garish and OTT. To us it felt soulless and sterile, there's nothing to suggest you are in Mexico and in fact you could be anywhere. Accommodation blocks painted bright white added to the overall clinical feel. The pool areas are quite small and the sunbeds are all lined up and packed very closely together, so very little personal space. It was always crowded plus no natural shade although some areas have a cover over them. If we had stayed here we would have been disappointed. We much prefered the older more traditional Mexican style of the Riu Tequila which has a lot of greenery and shady areas to relax in - much more restful on the eyes and more space so it didn't feel like everybody was on top of one another. The food at the Riu Yucatan was very good quality though, as it was in all three Riu's. The beach itself was lovely with clean white sand. We enjoyed watching the colony of howler monkeys which live in the trees at the side of the hotel. You can see them from the bridge running between two of the blocks. A couple of times in the late afternoon we saw them all moving through the trees and climbing onto the roof. Not sure what they were after up there! More>
