Riu Yucatan

All Inclusive

Ever since it opened as the original RIU Resort in Riviera Maya, Riu Yucatan has been a leading choice for families and couples! Themed in an early Mexican Colonial style, the resort features a lobby modeled after an authentic Mexican town with hand-painted frescos of flowers, angels, and clouds. Relax beneath one of the many palm trees sprinkled along the white sand beach, or enjoy the array of watersports in the clear waters of the Caribbean.

Four restaurants feature a variety of dining choices. The Hacienda Restaurant extends to a terrace amidst jungle greenery, offering a great variety of tantalizing buffets and on-the-spot cooking. Guests are sure to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Margarita's specialty restaurant, as they dine alongside the large pool area and take part in the delightful theme nights. Shanghai, the Asian restaurant, serves amazing buffets. Snacks are available 24-hours a day and the five bars, including two swim-up bars, serve unlimited drinks.

Activities abound at this non-stop resort! Enjoy watersports such as kayaking or body boarding, or venture over to the 18-hole golf course nearby! For a soothing experience, sip a sunset cocktail in one of four bars or pamper yourself at Renova Spa. Complimentary 24-hour WiFi is also available in the common areas of the resort (available in rooms for an additional charge).

Every evening, live entertainment, and music provide the perfect show right before heading off to bed. Riu Yucatan has exchange privileges with Riu Tequila and Riu Playacar (dinner dining excluded), so entertainment is never in short supply!

Our room wasn't the best. It's one thing to be an old hotel, but just upkeep in our room was poor. The door was scuffed, the bathroom mirror was chopped in places. Our fridge needed to be wiped down. The shower drained really slow. The upkeep on the room was poor. Looks like things were tended to, b .. More>

Husband and I stayed for 6 nights, had an awesome time. Beach is beautiful, resort very clean and well maintained. Food was good with some selections at the buffet being very good. Service is outstanding everywhere in the resort. Close to Playa Del Carmen if you need more excitement! Also very close to playa car plaza for shopping. Highly recommended!

Stayed for one week in January. By far this is the best beach we have stayed at in Mexico. Very wide and long without any rocks at all. Rui Yucatan is a medium sized property and not too big. Most rooms centrally located close to pool and ocean. Just three restaurants, one requiring reservations. Italian restaurant was fine but nothing special. Ended up ordering salmon and nothing Italian due to limited menu offerings. Japanese restaurant was buffet style. All items were cold so we were disappointed since this was the restaurant most favorably reviewed. Didn't bother going to the Mexican which required reservations since this was poorly reviewed. Buffet was very good and offered many varied selections each evening we went. Two pools, one very large with activities scheduled throughout the day. It was very crowded with people nearly side by side everywhere with little space in between. Another pool up by the lobby was very quiet with soft music and it's own bar and never crowded. Plenty of chairs always available on the beach. Staff very personable and nice. Mexico has always been one of the most gracious hosts for travelers. Hotel grounds and rooms clean and well kept. Enjoyed the native animals throughout the resort especially the howler monkeys and the few cats living around the resort. Stayed in Building 5, top floor which was aside of the theatre and noisy at night due to the shows. If you want a quiet room, you would be better to stay in another building away from the theatre. Live music was nice especially the rock band that played one night and a saxophone player who played in the lobby. Always happy with any Rui resort we have stayed.

Facility is very well maintained and cleaned. Food is great, lots of options for the picky eater. Wouldn't call it a five star, but definitely a good solid 4. A couple minor things... all the light switches in our room were dirty. They were supposed to restock fridge (beer, alcohol, water and pop) every two days. Hadn't been by in a few so I asked at front desk. They had someone there within the hour and follows up with two phone calls within an hour of that. So actually a plus here for them. I'm not a big drinker, but my brother likes his straight and he said it was definitely watered down. One big negative was that wait staff would clear tables, handling dirty utensils, cloth napkins, and grab dirty glasses by the top and not wash hands before handling clean utensils and glasses. So big hygiene thing that needs to be addressed.

Well after nearly 14 years we went back to the Riu yucatan and was amazed at the changes. The resort was completely different and much better than the last time. The main building was like the someone took the best hotel in Miami and brought it to Mexico. It was spacious and spotless and the staff were great. The main bar and restaurant are there and some of the staff even remembered us, nice. The food was fantastic and we never had a stomach issue even after 10 days. Our room was overlooking both the main pool and the ocean and it was large and extremely clean everyday. We spent one day at the " quite " pool and that was very relaxing. The beach is one of the best we've been to and was raked every morning and no annoying sales people trying to pawn their wares. Great security both in the resort and on the beach so we were able to take long walks every day and enjoy the surf. If you want a top notch resort and relaxation it's hard to beat this place. Looking forward to returning next year. Steve s
