Themed in an early Mexican Colonial style, the resort features a lobby modeled after an authentic Mexican town with hand-painted frescos of flowers, angels, and clouds. Relax beneath one of the many palm trees sprinkled along the white sand beach, or enjoy the array of watersports in the clear waters of the Caribbean.

Four restaurants feature a variety of dining choices. The Hacienda Restaurant extends to a terrace amidst jungle greenery, offering a great variety of tantalizing buffets and on-the-spot cooking. Guests are sure to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Margarita's specialty restaurant, as they dine alongside the large pool area and take part in the delightful theme nights. Shanghai, the Asian restaurant, serves amazing buffets. Snacks are available 24-hours a day and the five bars, including two swim-up bars, serve unlimited drinks.

Activities abound at this non-stop resort! Enjoy watersports such as kayaking or body boarding, or venture over to the 18-hole golf course nearby! For a soothing experience, sip a sunset cocktail in one of four bars or pamper yourself at Renova Spa. Complimentary 24-hour WiFi is also available in the common areas of the resort (available in rooms for an additional charge).

Every evening, live entertainment, and music provide the perfect show right before heading off to bed. Riu Yucatan has exchange privileges with Riu Tequila and Riu Playacar (dinner dining excluded), so entertainment is never in short supply!

Riu Yucatan
Nov 22 2017
I have stayed at Riu's previously. This was as expected from a service and food/drink quality perspective. The whole resort decor is in need of updating. Room was very brighy and unable to dim lights for a warmer feel. Found cocroaches and small bugs in the room. Reallu hate the 2 beds pushed together concept. Took any romatic feel away.

noise out side our room and bathroom.

The way the rooms are set up inside, The toilet has a door, but the shower is open with a glass door with a very small wall. If you aren't staying with a spouse, there isn't privacy. It is very noisy outside the rooms. The doors are very heavy and slam LOUD!!!! We also heard the couple next door screaming at their kids up until 2-3 am. Everything echo's due to tile and cement.

Great trip to Playa del Carmen

Great hotel. Room a bit musty but no problem with that. Clean grounds, very well taken care of. Workers are constantly cleaning everything. All of our servers were top notch, smiling all the time, and happy to help with anything you need. Bottled water readily available. So many choices at buffet's for food, and plenty to drink. Beach was beautiful, seaweed definitely there, but they are always working hard to get rid of it--just seems like an endless battle, but that's the ocean for ya! Beach not rocky at all, that's the main reason we chose this resort.

Hotel needs work........
Apr 14 2017
Hotel in general seemed to be lacking in general maintenance upkeep. Our shower door would not close completely, door handle on closet kept falling off, had friends that their air conditioning didn't work at all. Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Would not be a place that I would go back to......

Really liked this hotel.. The grounds were nice especially for a somewhat older facility. There were plenty of vegetation around so didn't seem too commercial. Beach was nice and a very good location from the pools, bars and restaurant. Food was just okay... Must get up really early to get a reservation for a couple of the restaurants. The highlights for us; proximity to the beautiful beach, excellent service, it's just a short walk down the beach to a totally uninhabited area.

We have used Apple for the past eight years. Your service is great and you are responsive. We would suggest that you really evaluate the hotel rating and stay on the hotel grounds to offer a transparent level of expectations for our stay. We really trust the Riu brand of hotels and this Riu Yucatn could use some attention. The staff is what would bring us back. They work six days a week and are completely devoted to ensuring tourists and guests have a wonderful experience. With some small corrections this hotel would be aligned accurately with the Apple rating.

Riu Yucatan our 2nd visit
Nov 23 2016
First time we were alone Jan 2014, second time Nov 2016 we were with our 18 month daughter. It was great, staff was wonderful although I had a feeling the night shows were a little bit boring this time. It also lacks activities for really small children like our daughter, but they did have balls and buckets and w,e for her to play with. I would also suggest for waiters to walk around the beach with drinks. I cant count how many times i had to go from the beach to pool bar to get a drink.

Stayed at the riu yucatan from 19th of November to the 3rd of December, travelled with my partner. This was our first ever Caribbean holiday and I can say this will not be our last. Had the best time at this hotel and also met the best people out here. Check in was very quick and easy, which is exactly what you want after a long haul flight. The staff was very friendly and happy 😊 shout out to Abel who greeted us. You also get a drink on arrival at hotel. The wifi was brilliant. Worked everywhere in the hotel, in your rooms even round the pool and on the beach! You will get the wifi code on arrival at check in. The rooms where lovely and spotless everyday. You get optics in the room, a fridge with bottles of water, seven up and coke in, filled up everyday. The cleaners worked so hard to keep your room clean and left towel arts in the room (not everyday). They was always happy and friendly always said hello to us. You have a quiet pool, we never went down there. The main pool was cleaned everyday, except the swim up bar. We never went in there as a lot of people said it wasn't very clean and we did notice this. We didn't need to reserve beds as there are always beds around and always space on the beach. The animation team worked so hard to put on pool games, foam pool party on a Monday, and entertainment in the evenings. Want to shout out to Pepe as he always came and spoke to us, very nice lad. Also Ruben, you could really tell he enjoyed his job always putting in the effort at water aerobics and the pool dance. The beach is absolutely beautiful!! I've never seen anything like it in my life. You could see the fishes swimming Around you, we went on the kayaks as this was free and u could literally see right to the bottom. Sand is white and like powder. We tried the steakhouse but that was a. It if a hit a miss wether you got a nice bit of steak or not. We went 3 times and the first time it was sooo chewy I couldn't eat it, but the other two times it was lovely and had so much flavour. We didn't try the Mexican. The Asian was our favourite and ate here quite a few times. We only had the Italian one day at lunch and it was lovely. The trips we booked was coco bongo which I would advise anyone to go to as it is amazing! We did the tour explor and dolphins. Personally I would recommend all these trips as we had really good days out and food and drinks are included in them. We went to the riu tequila to have lunch and personally it wasn't a bit of me. We went over to the night club which was good but when asked the dj to play some English songs he said no. And it shut quite early too. If you get a taxi make sure you always ask them how much the journey is going to cost before hand. It cost 90 pesos to playa del carmen. The weather was spot on during our 2 week holiday, reaching 30 degrees. All staff are super friendly. I seriously do not have one bad thing to say about this hotel. I hope in the future we will return as it is one of the best hotels I've stayed in but would like to also go other places first. Mexico is a beautiful place and has really stolen my heart. You won't regret coming to this hotel!!! Xx

Just returned from 12 nights at the Riu Yucatan. This is a large modern hotel set in beautiful grounds. The rooms are spread out in small blocks, accessed through jungle lined paths inhabited by monkeys and other wildlife. The rooms are kept spotless and well maintained. Thanks to the maid for room 9324, she was wonderful. My partner loved the towel animal surprises we came back to everyday. Check in and out was seemless. Aye on the desk was very nice to us and answered all of our questions with a beaming smile. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for her. There are several bars dotted around the complex all of which serve excellent quality alcohol, soft drinks and coffee. The service at all the bars is excellent, a special mention to Israel, who tried very hard to please. Food in all of the restaurants was first class and we never tired of eating at the hotel. The main lunch buffet restaurant had a canteen feel to it due to the layout but still provided an excellent choice of dishes. Out of our group of four, three of us had bad stomachs. Mine lasted for 7 days but I was only incapacitated for one full day. A lot of people we spoke to had minor stomach issues. I think that it was more likely to be a virus than attributed to the food or hotel hygiene. The hotel management was well aware with staff everywhere insisting on squirting sanitiser on guest's hands. The gym was adequate but no more. You could get a decent workout but the equipment needs modernising and it should be at least twice the size considering the amount of guests that use it at peak times. The evening entertainment was standard faire in a large theatre. There are plenty of bars to retreat to. The entertainment team members are awesome. They are on the go from dawn til midnight arranging activities and being very proactive around getting the guests to join in. We particularly enjoyed the fun games in the lobby bar from around 7.00pm. There were two quality sessions of beach volleyball every day. Thanks to Michel, he joined in with all the games and made us laugh, top man. He made an effort to get to know us and joke around. There are three nice pools, one very quiet and two bigger ones that were more lively. The foam party on Mondays was so much fun, especially with the giant beach balls and balloons that were tossed into the water. The beach is gorgeous. It is a wide sandy beach with a beautiful blue ocean. There are Hobie Cats, wind surfs, kayaks and paddle boards for free and a whole range of motorised water sports on offer for a charge. There was however a lack of sun loungers on the beach. If you arrive later than 10.00am then forget it as they get occupied or reserved with towels. This may be due to the nearby Riu Tequila not having it's own beach and guests from there having access to all of the Yucatan facilities. There is super fast Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and on the beach. It is free for up to two devices per day. I would have awarded five stars but the hotel is let down by it's smoking policy. There is smoking allowed everywhere inside the hotel apart from the restaurants. First impression on entering the lobby on arrival was how smoky it was. It was impossible to sit at any bar without someone blowing smoke at you. I find this policy incredible in the 21st century. Non smokers are forced to sit well away from all of the lively bar areas unless they are willing to inhale other people's carcinogens. As the guests are mainly Europeans, a lot of the guests appeared to be heavy smokers so I'm sure the policy suited them. Not us though, we would never return to the hotel for this reason. It reminded me of ten years ago, returning to the room in clothes stinking of smoke. This is our 7th visit to Cancun. We holiday every year with friends from the USA and Canada. This is the third Riu we have stayed in there. We will definitely stay in other Rius but not this one unless the smoking policy changes.

The hotel Round Yucatan is fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going Mexico. Situated in Playa del Carmen, 50mins walk along the beach to the town or a short taxi ride. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is beautifully clean and well maintained. The room has air conditioning, optics and a fridge which is refilled every day with beer, coke, lemonade and water. It's the first time all inclusive has been this good at any hotel I have been to. There are four restaurants are brilliant, the food is amazing. It's a 1min walk to the pools and 2mins walk to the beach. The holiday was perfect. The resort is paradise. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of going to Mexico. Best holiday o have ever had. Thank you Riu Yucatan!! Hope we can come back one day..

Another great holiday

Just returned from Mexico stayed at Riu Yucatan. We had a wonderful time and we will be back again in the future. All of the staff were excellent and they all worked very hard to make our stay special. The entertainment through the day was great although the evening entertainment could do with more new acts. The location could not have been better and our room was kept clean and tidy. Everyone had a smile on their face. We had a problem with our TV and the maintainence was on hand 10 minutes after I reported it. We made lots of new friends. Thank You Riu Yucatan.
