The only bad thing was. A family sat next to us at the steakhouse and they did not eat their loaves a bread or use one silverware setting. When they left the table the waiter did not remove the bread or the silverware. It was left for the next guests.

Our only issue at the resort was with our Apple rep. We want to go on an excursion to Cozomel. James was more than happy to help. Our problem comes with the fact that he way over sold the trip. He was over stated what the trip included and how long we would be out. It turn out we stopped at two parks, neither not much to see, and were gone from the resort for over 12 hours, over two hours longer than we had hoped. We spent $260 on a tour that was not worth the money and could have be completed in a third of the time.

I have stayed at Riu's previously. This was as expected from a service and food/drink quality perspective. The whole resort decor is in need of updating. Room was very brighy and unable to dim lights for a warmer feel. Found cocroaches and small bugs in the room. Reallu hate the 2 beds pushed together concept. Took any romatic feel away.

noise out side our room and bathroom.

The way the rooms are set up inside, The toilet has a door, but the shower is open with a glass door with a very small wall. If you aren't staying with a spouse, there isn't privacy. It is very noisy outside the rooms. The doors are very heavy and slam LOUD!!!! We also heard the couple next door screaming at their kids up until 2-3 am. Everything echo's due to tile and cement.

Great hotel. Room a bit musty but no problem with that. Clean grounds, very well taken care of. Workers are constantly cleaning everything. All of our servers were top notch, smiling all the time, and happy to help with anything you need. Bottled water readily available. So many choices at buffet's for food, and plenty to drink. Beach was beautiful, seaweed definitely there, but they are always working hard to get rid of it--just seems like an endless battle, but that's the ocean for ya! Beach not rocky at all, that's the main reason we chose this resort.

Hotel needs work........

Hotel in general seemed to be lacking in general maintenance upkeep. Our shower door would not close completely, door handle on closet kept falling off, had friends that their air conditioning didn't work at all. Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Would not be a place that I would go back to......

Really liked this hotel.. The grounds were nice especially for a somewhat older facility. There were plenty of vegetation around so didn't seem too commercial. Beach was nice and a very good location from the pools, bars and restaurant. Food was just okay... Must get up really early to get a reservation for a couple of the restaurants. The highlights for us; proximity to the beautiful beach, excellent service, it's just a short walk down the beach to a totally uninhabited area.

Just returned from our honeymoon in Riu Yucatan. Overall, my wife and I both agreed that we couldn't have wished to pick better resort to spend our Honeymoon, overall our experience was almost faultless, but there are a couple of things could be better if any criticism at all. Upon arrival, instant first impression was with the amazingly vast and very well presented lobby area, friendly reception staff and welcome drink. Room was spacious although fairly basic, are kept spotlessly clean by the excellent maid we had, well stocked & replenished mini-bar throughout our stay (including bubbly on arrival), and the balcony provided great central view of the centre of the resort. Bed was fairly comfortable but not great bedding. Very noisy at resort due to the Howler Monkeys and various Birds that like to wake you up from about 6.30am onwards with the most horrific calling noises! Nature accepted, no prior warning of this, so it takes some adjusting too!!!! There are 5 restaurants (International, Oriental, Italian, Steak & Mexican) and a day time snack bar (which is in same location as Steak & Mexican). International quite varied choice, food on the whole was cooked/prepared & presented well, but tedious & little repetitive in end, Oriental was nice offering various tasty Chinese/Asian options, Italian was a little more disappointing although food nice, not enough choice of buffet or main course (main course which you have to pick from menu), however the Mexican was fantastic although you have to book in the International restaurant (at breakfast time between 7 and 7.30am) on the morning to be sure of getting a 18.45 or 20.45 slot that night. Did not try the (Steak) Margarita Restaurant, after speaking to other couples and they saying steak was poor. Bars were very well stocked, and provided endless unlimited options of mainly Internationally Branded labels to choose from, also offering alcoholic (very boozy!) and non-alcohol options of slush type cocktails (Armando excellent server at the Cozumel beach bar). 3 pools to choose from, and a swim-up bar, clean and well maintained, along with the hotel grounds in general, however the evening entertainment was like a stroll back to a bad night at Butlin's, and the shows generally at best can only be described as dated, poorly organised and of very poor quality as the resorts only evening entertainment on offer, other than few games between 19.30-21.00 in the main hotel lobby. TUI reps Becky & Richard, both friendly and knowledgeable, and not pushy hard selling excursions. Beach directly at rear of resort was excellent on whole other than the deluge of cigar men offering various other things as well. Overall, had superb time at lovely hotel, and already talking about going again there.

Will not return

This resort is not a 4 Star!!! This is my 1st time to an all inclusive and my friends (13 of us) and I were all very underwhelmed. Staff was not good at communicating activities and dinner schedules. We were given a hard time when we tried to book times for dinners since we had a large group. The food was sub par and I came back with a terrible belly ache. My friend was actually hospitalized after we got back home and found out she had salmonella!!! The bar pool was small and too shady. The rooms are in major need of some renovations! I did not want to hang out in them because they were not comfortable. I basically showered and slept in the room. The best part of the resort were the bartenders. They were very nice and fun. If you want a cheap trip with bare minimum offerings this is the place for you but if you want any comfort and service go elsewhere!!!

May get away

Had a fabulous time.... Very fast check in .They are very accommodating to our needs .The resort very clean .Everyone was very friendly and went beyond to make our stay special. ZAIRA WAS VERY GOOD AT THE FRONT DESK, never said that we can't do that . The grounds are very well maintained. Pools very clean. Buffet has food for everyone....The best attraction is the wild life the cutest monkeys , some with babies. All bars were great didn't have to wait long .service was best I have had at any resort . Entertainment team made stay very enjoyable Crazy games was great We had a foam party in the pool,a Mayan show , Rock show. THE SWIM UP POOL AND BAR IS WHERE ALL THE ACTION IS ....People from other Riu hotel came to the Yucatan during the day Since it was the party place. Ala cart restaurants were all very good .Asian was a buffet type good food Steak house very good with a great view of the water .These two you didn't need a reservation but Mexican you did so never went to this one. Rooms very clean, bed comfortable but pillows were too flat . My recommendation is if you want a quite room ask for building 7 or 8 , if you want action close to everything ask for 1 through 6.We were in 4 close to pools ,lunch buffet, theatre and three bars and the beach. Pools-there are three plus a kids one in the kids club. The one closest to the lobby was great for doing laps. Overall I would for sure go back to this resort again .We try to go to a different resort each year we go to Playa del carmen ...this is the first time when we are planning to go back to the Riu Yucatan next time .... Can not say anything negative . I think the best was we went on a fishing trip and caught maui maui and we brought back a fillet and the chef in the kitchen cooked it up and made a fabulous plater. We shared it with who ever wanted some .And left the remainder for the staff. THIS IS THE BEST RESORT THAT NEVER SAID WE CAN NOT DO THAT......

Couldn't have chosen a better hotel to celebrate my 50th. Travelled with TUI and our reps Becky and Richard were extremely helpful. Our room was cleaned every day. There is an iron and ironing board, also an umbrella. The only issue I had ( OCD ) was there is no hand basin in the separate toilet. The sink is located outside of the toilet, so everyone would use the same handle to exit the toilet THEN wash your hands after. The food was always of good standard. Several restaurants to choose from to eat on the evening, although the chef at the meat carving station could do with some caring lessons!!. also some of the meats were slightly too salty for me. Wifi worked very well throughout the hotel even down on the beach. The beach is just a short walk across the hotel where there are a couple of bars on site to get a drink. Was always able to find sunbeds without having to claim them in the morning. There are activities around the main pool, i.e Foam party , Zuma on the beach and other games to make your stay enjoyable. The all inclusive drinks as ever were a bit hit and miss, however there is a small selection of branded drinks to chose from. The staff were very friendly and the helpful ones would get a tip from me. It's a 25 - 35 minute walk to 5th Avenue - the main centre or 90 Pesos in a taxi. For anyone who has any concerns about this location, it is in a secure environment and is safe to walk around the area. I would highly recommend this hotel as I have a very relaxing 2 week stay.

A great holiday

Just arrived back from a 10night stay which was booked with Tiu. We were a party of five, a 3year old a 14 year old two 20 somethings and myself an OAP ! The Hotel is excellent. We had adjacent rooms in block 4 the position was perfect, close to all the facilities, restaurants. the main pool and with a lovely outlook on to trees and gardens with the wild life from our balcony . The room was spotless the maid cleaned them thoroughly every day and the fridge was restocked every 2 days. The reception staff were fantastic and helped us with any issues we had like an accidental locking of the safe, a mishap with locking our room cards in the room, all dealt with promptly and with a smile and perfect English. The food suited all our tastes and the breakfast waiter remembered who had tea and coffee and it was on the table with out asking, excellent. All the waiters and bar staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The beach is amazing a problem with seaweed was sorted daily with an army of men who did their best to keep it under control. We have had some torrential rain but that did not spoil a perfect holiday and there are large umbrellas in the room. An improvement could be made to the toddlers pool area which is in a dark corner and not suitable for a family to sit comfortably as there are only 4 loungers and not very nice. The animation were all great and the boys joined in with all the activities. The weekly pool party is great fun. Altogether a very memorable holiday with lots to cater for all ages. Thank you to the Manager and all your wonderful staff for making Mexico so fantastic.
