All Inclusive

Ever since it opened as the original RIU Resort in Riviera Maya, Riu Yucatan has been a leading choice for families and couples! Themed in an early Mexican Colonial style, the resort features a lobby modeled after an authentic Mexican town with hand-painted frescos of flowers, angels, and clouds. Relax beneath one of the many palm trees sprinkled along the white sand beach, or enjoy the array of watersports in the clear waters of the Caribbean.

Four restaurants feature a variety of dining choices. The Hacienda Restaurant extends to a terrace amidst jungle greenery, offering a great variety of tantalizing buffets and on-the-spot cooking. Guests are sure to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Margarita's specialty restaurant, as they dine alongside the large pool area and take part in the delightful theme nights. Shanghai, the Asian restaurant, serves amazing buffets. Snacks are available 24-hours a day and the five bars, including two swim-up bars, serve unlimited drinks.

Activities abound at this non-stop resort! Enjoy watersports such as kayaking or body boarding, or venture over to the 18-hole golf course nearby! For a soothing experience, sip a sunset cocktail in one of four bars or pamper yourself at Renova Spa. Complimentary 24-hour WiFi is also available in the common areas of the resort (available in rooms for an additional charge).

Every evening, live entertainment, and music provide the perfect show right before heading off to bed. Riu Yucatan has exchange privileges with Riu Tequila and Riu Playacar (dinner dining excluded), so entertainment is never in short supply!

Our room wasn't the best. It's one thing to be an old hotel, but just upkeep in our room was poor. The door was scuffed, the bathroom mirror was chopped in places. Our fridge needed to be wiped down. The shower drained really slow. The upkeep on the room was poor. Looks like things were tended to, b .. More>

Open plan bathroom! Not 5* worthy

I thought I would write this whilst sat on the beautiful beach (day 5 of our holiday) Normally me & my partner are very thorough when searching for a holiday but our quintessential booking guide went out the window as we were in need of a quick getaway. Somehow we missed vital reviews that it's like an 18-30 club holiday and the open plan shower. The rooms were more basic than a student dorm, I wouldn't even expect this in a 3* hotel. Without meaning to sound dramatic I was genuinely distraught with the room. Me and my partner were both not happy and asked to look at the suite... the suite is amazing but costs at least £800 to upgrade for 2weeks! At this price we just couldn't justify it but there is no in between. It goes from open plan student dorms to huge apartments! But neither with good views. Our main complaints are the bathroom being open plan with the bedroom so there's no privacy and is all you can hear is the shower whilst trying to watch tv. The hotel receptionists said only Thomson can help you as you booked it through them although we can put a shower curtain up. I don't see an old dirty shower curtain draped over the shower door as a 5* solution. We spoke to the Thompson reps the next day but they said there's nothing they can do either and everyone else likes this hotel as it's the most popular. We asked to transfer to any other Riu but apparently they all are open Bathrooms and weren't given any option to transfer to any others. This understandably was no consolation for us and nothing has been done to even attempt make our holiday more enjoyable. To try salvage this holiday we sit as far away from the hotel on the beach to get away from the entertainment and noise of drinking games and very loud music. We have been offered drugs numerous times whilst on the sunloungers outside the hotel which I know is hard for the hotel to police but we are shocked. References 'green' and 'charlie' have been the most common proceeds after selfie sticks and cigars. From this experience we will never stay at Riu resorts again as I don't feel they are worthy of their stars. However in saying that the staff have been amazing! And all the wildlife around the hotel (although howler monkeys are very consistent 4am alarm Clocks) Hopefully we can try enjoy our last 9 days but spend as little time in the room!

i want to go back.

I don't know how the riu yucatan can make a profit for what we got and what we paid for 2 weeks. the rooms are cleaned and changed every day. the staff are brilliant at what they do. the beech is at the end of the complex with bars and pools inbetween. 3 things. do not take American dollars . take Mexican pesos. the atm in the hotel never worked . the local shopping centre just down the road has one. always worked. finally, the floors in the rooms and outside the patio doors, as well as the lobby/reception areas and by the main bar are slippery as hell. doesn't matter if you are bare feet or with shoes on, you will fall over. I went down twice, other members of the party went down, as did other guests. there are mats down . but you will trip over them as well.

I have no negative comments at all about the Riu Yucatan, it was great from check in to departure. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Had to report a bulb out and a broken hairdryer to reception both of which were sorted out within an hour. The room was very freshly decorated and cleaned daily, towels and sheets were changed on a regular basis, it was located in block 9 which was tucked in at the back and was nice and quiet. I don't think that any of the rooms had sea views and I understand that they were all the same size. The main lobby and reception were bright and modern, The lobby bar was well stocked with branded alcohol and plenty bar staff so never had to wait long for a drink. All the restaurants including the main buffet were great with a good selection of food. We always found something nice over the two week stay. The Mexican restaurant requires a reservation which is done on the day at breakfast, the rest were walk in, we never had a problem getting a table. We didn't use the pools, they looked nice and were cleaned constantly, the main pool was very busy but there were always empty sunbeds. There was a quiet pool and bar located just outside the main lobby. This hotel was chosen because of the beach and it didn't disappoint it was lovely, soft pale sand and warm sea, the beach did get busy but we were always able to get a couple of beds. Maybe the hotel could provide some extra ashtrays on the beach to discourage guests from leaving cigarette butts in the sand. The hotel is located about 5 min taxi ride to Playa del Carmen main strip which has bars, restaurants and shops and is worth a visit. There are other Riu hotels in the area that you can go to all within walking distance, you can use their bars and restaurants but you are asked to have your evening meal at your own hotel. A special mention to the Tui Reps who have set up a box for leftover toiletries and suncreams this is a great idea. Everything about this hotel was as I would expect from a Riu I would not hesitate to stay here again and I would happily recommend it to friends.

Service provided by Riu (and Thompson) representatives was 2nd to none. The vibe at the Riu Yucatan and Playacar is brilliant. Spent evenings at the Yucatan but day times at the Playacar. The Animation team here, Maria, Alex, Valentino et al should be congratulated for their efforts. We've seen many teams over the years, but this team is by far the best, workaholics and manage to get so many people involved.(Also, they manage to play a huge range of music...supporting all tastes) Food at both hotels is brilliant, I challenge anyone not to find something to eat. With around 7 variation of eggs for breakfast, plus the fruit etc you wont go hungry. AND the amount of seafood available lunchtime and evening provides a culinary heaven. Riu should be congratulated on the standard and level of service provide by ALL staff in both hotels Jenny, who clears the bar tables has a smile for EVERYONE irrespective of who they are, Santos, early morning coffee maker, also provided a service with a BIG smile Both Jenny and Santos should be recognised for their level of service. Well done Riu

We arrived home yesterday from a great 2 weeks here. Staff from cleaners/gardeners/bar staff and waiters were all excellent always had time to greet you. Food lovely something for everyone. We visited steakhouse 3 times and it was delicious. Rooms are spacious and kept very clean. I read a few negatives here prior to going but there was nothing to worry about. It is a perfect location with facilities to suit everyone. We didn't use the party pool but loved the atmosphere here whilst enjoying a cocktail or 2 at the beach bar. Last Thursday the beach party was brilliant with a massive circle in the sea all joining hands to the circle of life it was quite emotional watching. The chill out pool was our favourite nice and quiet with a cool bar area where you could sit quietly reading or just watching the world go by. If I had one wish for a small improvement it would be for a bottle of wine in the fridge so that I could chill on balcony before getting ready for a great night in the hotel. Would I go back - most definitely
