Excellent place and service
Aug 04 2018
We loved the place. The beach is beautiful, lined with palm trees and turquoise water. The rooms were okay, good but nothing spectacular. One little issue is that the bathroom does not have a door and the shower has a glass door. So, my teen son and daughter who were sharing a room, found this a bit uncomfortable. The food was excellent, probably the best of all the all-inclusive hotels we've stayed at. The service was beyond excellent. On night my daughter had an upset stomach and wasn't feeling well. My wife went to the buffet restaurant and asked one of the waiters if she could take a bowl of rice back to the room for our daughter. The waiter offered to have a special meal cooked for her! The entertainment was great too. There was a foam pool party that was fun. And the show at night was above average. So much so, that my son commented on how high quality the performers were for a show at a hotel (obviously comparing to previous experiences at other hotels). Overall, it was a great experience.

I guess we are used to the service and facilities of Riu Palace facilities so upon arriving at this hotel, it wasnt up to our expectations. The staff was very helpful but our room was not what I envisioned. I guess they put all families in the lower level, but we had some noisy neighbors. Upon arriving, we are accustomed to getting checked in and given our room at a Riu Palace however at this resort we had to wait for almost 4 hours with a toddler. Overall, the wildlife was amazing and the beach beautiful when the seaweed would allow. Food was average and drinks were amazing at the main lobby bar however if getting anything from another bar, the drinks would vary. I would give this resort 2.5-3 stars. I hate to sound critical of this resort because we absolutely love Riu resorts however this one will not make it on our list to return. Our Apple agent, Geovanni, was. Absolutely helpful and will try his best to address any concerns or plan any excursions for you. Hes a very caring and genuine.

The staff was friendly but I had to keep leaving notes for housekeeping to leave enough towels every day for the two people using the room.

The only bad thing was. A family sat next to us at the steakhouse and they did not eat their loaves a bread or use one silverware setting. When they left the table the waiter did not remove the bread or the silverware. It was left for the next guests.

Our only issue at the resort was with our Apple rep. We want to go on an excursion to Cozomel. James was more than happy to help. Our problem comes with the fact that he way over sold the trip. He was over stated what the trip included and how long we would be out. It turn out we stopped at two parks, neither not much to see, and were gone from the resort for over 12 hours, over two hours longer than we had hoped. We spent $260 on a tour that was not worth the money and could have be completed in a third of the time.

I have stayed at Riu's previously. This was as expected from a service and food/drink quality perspective. The whole resort decor is in need of updating. Room was very brighy and unable to dim lights for a warmer feel. Found cocroaches and small bugs in the room. Reallu hate the 2 beds pushed together concept. Took any romatic feel away.

noise out side our room and bathroom.

The way the rooms are set up inside, The toilet has a door, but the shower is open with a glass door with a very small wall. If you aren't staying with a spouse, there isn't privacy. It is very noisy outside the rooms. The doors are very heavy and slam LOUD!!!! We also heard the couple next door screaming at their kids up until 2-3 am. Everything echo's due to tile and cement.

Great trip to Playa del Carmen
Apr 18 2017
Great hotel. Room a bit musty but no problem with that. Clean grounds, very well taken care of. Workers are constantly cleaning everything. All of our servers were top notch, smiling all the time, and happy to help with anything you need. Bottled water readily available. So many choices at buffet's for food, and plenty to drink. Beach was beautiful, seaweed definitely there, but they are always working hard to get rid of it--just seems like an endless battle, but that's the ocean for ya! Beach not rocky at all, that's the main reason we chose this resort.

Hotel needs work........
Apr 14 2017
Hotel in general seemed to be lacking in general maintenance upkeep. Our shower door would not close completely, door handle on closet kept falling off, had friends that their air conditioning didn't work at all. Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Would not be a place that I would go back to......

Good holiday.

Returned from here a few weeks ago and enjoyed the family holiday. Plus - we requested three rooms together and were given three rooms on the same floor which was fine. Food was good quality, plenty of choice.Drinks, branded names. Service was excellent, staff couldn't t do enough for us, always friendly. Entertainment team were excellent. Negatives - impossible to get a sun lounger by the main pool if you weren't t down really early with some towels being placed on loungers and empty most of the day! Really off putting, luckily we preferred the quiet pool which wasn t so crowded. Some of the acts were very poor, especially the Elvis impersonator, the entertainment team saved the day here with their great dancing routines. Lots of seaweed on the beach and in the sea, though the staff did a good job in clearing it up and it didn't t stop us enjoying the water. Trips very prices, especially with Tui, we booked with the guy on the beach who was far more reasonable, trips were just as good. Overall a good holiday, however I stayed at this hotel 10 years ago, it's been renovated since then but all the Mexican character has been lost. I would still recommend it though.

Well this is the 3rd time staying in mexico and sad to say the worst. The evening and day entrainment is shocking but did meet lots of new friends at the bar laughing at how bad it was,Go to the rui tequila for entertainment!!! Room were and are still constantly missing towels so beware if you plan a night out check you have towels before you need to shower or you have to drip dry.Drug dealers constantly trying to sell you on the beach whilst with my children not good seems like No security on the beach :( if you like seaweed this is the place for you getting a good workout swimming threw it :) Staff amazing got to say will go the extra mile all the time other guest arrogant because they think they can do anything they like playing there own music at the main pool over the hotel music yep British from Essex you know who you are making everyone life a misery with your crap music.guest returning drunk from pubs at 2-3 am waking everyone up not good and then staff chopping coconut trees at 6am also not good.tbh I need a holiday to get over this come on tui pull your finger out. Last time I use rui back to iberostar next year :) 2 days left to go This is a truthful reflection of my stay wish I could say more ....

Fantastic holiday
Sun Aug 12 06:17:00 EDT 2018
Check in was nice & quick and we were taken to our room which was block 3 which is by the lobby and quiet pool. The rooms have good air conditioning and beds are very comfortable. The buffet restaurant was very big and sometimes could be very loud especially on an evening time. There was plenty of food choices and we never struggled to find anything to eat even towards the end of our holiday. As we are a family with 4 teenagers we only went to the activity pool so can’t comment on the quiet pool. We had great fun round the pool and our kids loved playing water volleyball every day with either the Riu reps or with the many friends they made whilst on holiday, all the reps where fantastic especially Mitchell, Josef & Debbie. All the staff at the Riu Yucatan work so very hard all day every day so a big thumbs up to them all. Would we come again to this hotel......DEFINITELY so don’t listen to all the negative reviews just book and you won’t be disappointed.

My friends and I have recently spend 2 weeks at the Riu Yucatan and have had a fantastic time. The rooms were roomy and well air conditioned, despite being a little tired looking. The food at most of the restaurants was excellent. The Mexican and steak restaurant were a particular favourite. There are two pool, with the Ibiza pool being much quieter and the larger pool having a great pool bar. You could pretty much get a sun bed as long as you went down prior to 9:30. Even though I’m pretty sure there is suppose to be a no reservation policy for the sun beds it wasn’t enforced. The entertainment was okay. One of the highlight was the Coco bongos pool party. In the evening there was something different on every night; ranging from a circus act to lots of dance shows. The hotel is right on the beach, which was beautiful. The seaweed was a little off putting when in the water, but it was fairly easy to forget about it once you were in. Be aware of the guys selling drugs on the beach, if you just say no they’ll move on. All in all a great stay and an excellent way to relax for 2 weeks.

Great Holiday
Fri Aug 10 14:16:31 EDT 2018
Had such a good time at the Yucatán. It’s was mine and other half’s first Holiday away (we’re from the U.K.) and it couldn’t have been better. The staff were amazing and friendly, always looking to help with smiles on their face, be it the waiters, bar staff and reception. Hotel was always clean with the staff working around the clock. Pool facilities were great, just be sure to get a place before 9:00am but I never saw any “agg” of inappropriate behaviour. They offer water sports which is great, we used kayaking for a few days. Variety of food was lovely, I personally enjoyed the Shanghai. Maybe have more snacks available for after hours like ice cream. Overall had a great time there and that was due to the staff and facilities.
