Ever since it opened as the original RIU Resort in Riviera Maya, Riu Yucatan has been a leading choice for families and couples! Themed in an early Mexican Colonial style, the resort features a lobby modeled after an authentic Mexican town with hand-painted frescos of flowers, angels, and clouds. Relax beneath one of the many palm trees sprinkled along the white sand beach, or enjoy the array of watersports in the clear waters of the Caribbean.

Four restaurants feature a variety of dining choices. The Hacienda Restaurant extends to a terrace amidst jungle greenery, offering a great variety of tantalizing buffets and on-the-spot cooking. Guests are sure to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Margarita's specialty restaurant, as they dine alongside the large pool area and take part in the delightful theme nights. Shanghai, the Asian restaurant, serves amazing buffets. Snacks are available 24-hours a day and the five bars, including two swim-up bars, serve unlimited drinks.

Activities abound at this non-stop resort! Enjoy watersports such as kayaking or body boarding, or venture over to the 18-hole golf course nearby! For a soothing experience, sip a sunset cocktail in one of four bars or pamper yourself at Renova Spa. Complimentary 24-hour WiFi is also available in the common areas of the resort (available in rooms for an additional charge).

Every evening, live entertainment, and music provide the perfect show right before heading off to bed. Riu Yucatan has exchange privileges with Riu Tequila and Riu Playacar (dinner dining excluded), so entertainment is never in short supply!

noise out side our room and bathroom.

The way the rooms are set up inside, The toilet has a door, but the shower is open with a glass door with a very small wall. If you aren't staying with a spouse, there isn't privacy. It is very noisy outside the rooms. The doors are very heavy and slam LOUD!!!! We also heard the couple next door screaming at their kids up until 2-3 am. Everything echo's due to tile and cement.

Great hotel. Room a bit musty but no problem with that. Clean grounds, very well taken care of. Workers are constantly cleaning everything. All of our servers were top notch, smiling all the time, and happy to help with anything you need. Bottled water readily available. So many choices at buffet's for food, and plenty to drink. Beach was beautiful, seaweed definitely there, but they are always working hard to get rid of it--just seems like an endless battle, but that's the ocean for ya! Beach not rocky at all, that's the main reason we chose this resort.

Hotel in general seemed to be lacking in general maintenance upkeep. Our shower door would not close completely, door handle on closet kept falling off, had friends that their air conditioning didn't work at all. Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Would not be a place that I would go back to......

Really liked this hotel.. The grounds were nice especially for a somewhat older facility. There were plenty of vegetation around so didn't seem too commercial. Beach was nice and a very good location from the pools, bars and restaurant. Food was just okay... Must get up really early to get a reservation for a couple of the restaurants. The highlights for us; proximity to the beautiful beach, excellent service, it's just a short walk down the beach to a totally uninhabited area.

We have used Apple for the past eight years. Your service is great and you are responsive. We would suggest that you really evaluate the hotel rating and stay on the hotel grounds to offer a transparent level of expectations for our stay. We really trust the Riu brand of hotels and this Riu Yucatán could use some attention. The staff is what would bring us back. They work six days a week and are completely devoted to ensuring tourists and guests have a wonderful experience. With some small corrections this hotel would be aligned accurately with the Apple rating.

Riu Yucatan our 2nd visit

First time we were alone Jan 2014, second time Nov 2016 we were with our 18 month daughter. It was great, staff was wonderful although I had a feeling the night shows were a little bit boring this time. It also lacks activities for really small children like our daughter, but they did have balls and buckets and w,e for her to play with. I would also suggest for waiters to walk around the beach with drinks. I cant count how many times i had to go from the beach to pool bar to get a drink.

Horrible food, service and overall quality. I will be writing a detailed letter, but I've stayed at many resorts in Mexico and this is by far the worst.

Great hotel.... would recommend!

We stayed at the Riu Yucatan for a week at the beginning of October. The hotel is great! Amazing customer service! Friendly, professional, and efficient staff. Excellent food, clean rooms, great property right on a gorgeous beach. Overall property was very lush and well maintained. Entertainment team did a fantastic job every day with fun activities. Located on a beautiful semi residential street with million dollar homes and other hotels in a gated community. Walking distance to Playa which was very convenient. I would visit again in a heartbeat and recommend to anyone! We travel a lot to south destinations and this is one place we would go again.

It long back from a great break to the Rui Yucatan. My first experience of Caribbean all inclusive. Food was very nice. Ate most evenings on the international restaurant. There are options for Italian, Mexican, steak and Asian but the Asian was my favourite. You only need to book for the Mexican. The Mexican was not very good and there was more care taken to decorate and create an atmosphere on the Mexican night in the main international restaurant. Staff are incredibly friendly and hard working. Bar served branded spirits. Beach was beautiful golden white sand. Animation team worked very hard. If I were to suggest one improvement it would be to have waiters circulating on the beach and pool areas to bring drinks

While this is a nice resort with Monkeys and other critters running around, I was not happy with the food.. It was good, just got very tired of the same food on the buffets everyday. The wine is cheap.... uggg....The staff is fantastic and so very friendly. Although I understand the importance of keeping Mosquitoes away,,, the spray, which was sprayed right under my balcony every day burned my throat and lungs,,, gave me a bad cough. The Rooms are simple and clean. The pools are good, the beach is great and well maintained., They did have shows every night.. yet they started late,, like 9.45pm /we were a bit bored between dinner and the show. Not much to do in the evening times..

We should have gone to Cayo coco but due to Irma our hotel was damaged so could not go. We booked this hotel 12 days before we went. We have been to Mexico twice before and stayed at Rui tequila but wanted a beach holiday this time. The hotel is fine, Deasy kept our room lovely and clean but the corridors to the room block 7 was not cleaned until the day we left. The food was plentiful and varied. We ate in all the restaurants but preferred the steak house, didn't really care for the Mexican so only went once. We stayed on the beach as like another reviewer we found the pools dirty and the swim up bar pool disgusting. The water was so dirty I would not go in let alone having a baby in there. We also saw a couple of weddings and I too would have been very disappointed if that was the day I had dreamt of as it seemed very ordinary. We had a good holiday and the weather was good all by a couple of days when it poured down but it was rainy season so not complaining about it. We would not return as we expected better but would go back to Mexico but maybe try a different area. We would have given four stars but because of the pools gave a three

Had a great time in this hotel, warms welcome on arrival, rooms quite large with a queens size beds, staff very helpful, plenty of choice for food, branded drinks, the entertainment quite good, the best turns are the bar staff, Israel, Alfredo, Nyomee there are too many to mention ( sorry if name spelt wrong guys ), p*** pool could do with a clean a bit more often, as some folk are too idle to take a short walk, the beach is a dream with golden sands and the turquoise sea. A bonus is, it's safe to walk to Playa del Carmen on a night if you want about 30 minutes ( taxi fare 90 peso each way ) There is a shopping complex a couple of minutes outside the hotel with a Real Ale Bar, plus a Starbucks and a variety of shops (drug store) so you do not have to venture into town.
