Relax beneath one of the many palm trees sprinkled along the white sand beach, or enjoy the array of watersports in the clear waters of the Caribbean.

Four restaurants feature a variety of dining choices. The Hacienda Restaurant extends to a terrace amidst jungle greenery, offering a great variety of tantalizing buffets and on-the-spot cooking. Guests are sure to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Margarita's specialty restaurant, as they dine alongside the large pool area and take part in the delightful theme nights. Shanghai, the Asian restaurant, serves amazing buffets. Snacks are available 24-hours a day and the five bars, including two swim-up bars, serve unlimited drinks.

Activities abound at this non-stop resort! Enjoy watersports such as kayaking or body boarding, or venture over to the 18-hole golf course nearby! For a soothing experience, sip a sunset cocktail in one of four bars or pamper yourself at Renova Spa. Complimentary 24-hour WiFi is also available in the common areas of the resort (available in rooms for an additional charge).

Every evening, live entertainment, and music provide the perfect show right before heading off to bed. Riu Yucatan has exchange privileges with Riu Tequila and Riu Playacar (dinner dining excluded), so entertainment is never in short supply!

Hotel was much more outdated than we expected
Nov 16 2018
Not as updated as some of the less expensive RIU resorts. We paid more to stay at the Yucatán due to the Apple rating when we could have stayed at a nicer hotel for less.

Excellent place and service
Aug 04 2018
We loved the place. The beach is beautiful, lined with palm trees and turquoise water. The rooms were okay, good but nothing spectacular. One little issue is that the bathroom does not have a door and the shower has a glass door. So, my teen son and daughter who were sharing a room, found this a bit uncomfortable. The food was excellent, probably the best of all the all-inclusive hotels we've stayed at. The service was beyond excellent. On night my daughter had an upset stomach and wasn't feeling well. My wife went to the buffet restaurant and asked one of the waiters if she could take a bowl of rice back to the room for our daughter. The waiter offered to have a special meal cooked for her! The entertainment was great too. There was a foam pool party that was fun. And the show at night was above average. So much so, that my son commented on how high quality the performers were for a show at a hotel (obviously comparing to previous experiences at other hotels). Overall, it was a great experience.

I guess we are used to the service and facilities of Riu Palace facilities so upon arriving at this hotel, it wasn’t up to our expectations. The staff was very helpful but our room was not what I envisioned. I guess they put all families in the lower level, but we had some noisy neighbors. Upon arriving, we are accustomed to getting checked in and given our room at a Riu Palace however at this resort we had to wait for almost 4 hours with a toddler. Overall, the wildlife was amazing and the beach beautiful when the seaweed would allow. Food was average and drinks were amazing at the main lobby bar however if getting anything from another bar, the drinks would vary. I would give this resort 2.5-3 stars. I hate to sound critical of this resort because we absolutely love Riu resorts however this one will not make it on our list to return. Our Apple agent, Geovanni, was. Absolutely helpful and will try his best to address any concerns or plan any excursions for you. He’s a very caring and genuine.

The staff was friendly but I had to keep leaving notes for housekeeping to leave enough towels every day for the two people using the room.

We enjoyed our stay at the RIU Yucutan. The facilities were nice, clean and well maintained. The pool and beach areas were nice. Food and alcoholic beverages

The only bad thing was. A family sat next to us at the steakhouse and they did not eat their loaves a bread or use one silverware setting. When they left the table the waiter did not remove the bread or the silverware. It was left for the next guests.

Our only issue at the resort was with our Apple rep. We want to go on an excursion to Cozomel. James was more than happy to help. Our problem comes with the fact that he way over sold the trip. He was over stated what the trip included and how long we would be out. It turn out we stopped at two parks, neither not much to see, and were gone from the resort for over 12 hours, over two hours longer than we had hoped. We spent $260 on a tour that was not worth the money and could have be completed in a third of the time.

I have stayed at Riu's previously. This was as expected from a service and food/drink quality perspective. The whole resort decor is in need of updating. Room was very brighy and unable to dim lights for a warmer feel. Found cocroaches and small bugs in the room. Reallu hate the 2 beds pushed together concept. Took any romatic feel away.

noise out side our room and bathroom.
Jul 06 2017
The way the rooms are set up inside, The toilet has a door, but the shower is open with a glass door with a very small wall. If you aren't staying with a spouse, there isn't privacy. It is very noisy outside the rooms. The doors are very heavy and slam LOUD!!!! We also heard the couple next door screaming at their kids up until 2-3 am. Everything echo's due to tile and cement.

Great trip to Playa del Carmen
Apr 18 2017
Great hotel. Room a bit musty but no problem with that. Clean grounds, very well taken care of. Workers are constantly cleaning everything. All of our servers were top notch, smiling all the time, and happy to help with anything you need. Bottled water readily available. So many choices at buffet's for food, and plenty to drink. Beach was beautiful, seaweed definitely there, but they are always working hard to get rid of it--just seems like an endless battle, but that's the ocean for ya! Beach not rocky at all, that's the main reason we chose this resort.

FAKE 5 STAR RESORT, does not meet the standards
Majid S,
Sun Feb 17 21:21:55 EST 2019
This resort does not meet the standard of other RIU Resort we have visited in past. For interested travelers I write my review in 6 Category. Travel time Feb 4th-11/2019 1-hotel itself: We noticed they did not change our bed sheets for 4 days, on fifth day change the sheets from one bed to another. I noticed by lip sticks marking on my wife's bed then they exchanged it with my son's bed. we found the same lip sticks marking on his sheet. Garbage was not empty for 2 days and we did not have shower gel for 2 days. very small shower area. 2-food is not good at all..specially at the steak house. the meat was terrible, we tried for second time it was no different from first time, buffet was exactly the same from lunch to dinner every day. 3-Beech was great except for mother nature sea weeds. 4-pool was o.K, the swim bar small and located in shade all day. 5-entertaiment was good specially when they had live band. I did not care about their shows. 6- Value for money , not good. I hope this review will help in your decision.

This is a very honest review. We have traveled to many five star resorts (including other RIU hotels) and I personally wouldn't rate the RIU Yucatan as a 5 star resort. Here is a breakdown of the pros and cons of our experience. Pros: -Rooms were very clean and the maid service was excellent -Food presentation was very nice, lots of variety at the buffet -Beach was very big, lots of room for activities -Entertainment crew was very friendly -Receptionists were very friendly also -Wifi reception on the beach -Service at the buffet was very efficient Cons: -Rooms were outdated, the paint on the outside of the building was peeling off -No individual bottles of shampoo/shower gel/lotion with shower caps. -Food wasn't super hot and not very well seasoned -Payed a mandatory "beach clean up fee" of 140 pesos for the week, which is fine because everyone wants a clean beach. However we only had a clean beach on our first day. After that there was a lot of seaweed coming in, and it was both in the water and on the shore. The seaweed was left for the rest of the week after they would put it in piles on the sand. The beach looked like a dump and smelled like one too. -Night time entertainment was very poor, very low budget shows. We recommend walking over to RIU Tequila (which is also newly renovated and looks great) and watching their shows. -No official sports bar -A lot of the gym equipment is old and rusted, some is also broken. -Hard to get bottled water, the only way is to order it to your room. The bars will not hand out bottled water (not sure why). -No room service for food All in all there was nothing exceptional about the resort that would make it a 5 star.

Currently at RIU Yucatan, the hotel is great food is delicious, everything is kept very clean and all the staff are fantastic !! Just got back to our room from Mexican themed dinner (12/2/19) and it was wonderful, a special thanks to Geny who was our waitress and made our evening, exchanging witty pleasantries and jokes while delivering water to quench the thirst of our Mexican food despite being busy and working hard. I would also like to thank Louydes who keeps our room spotless and wanting for nothing as far as drinks and towels are concerned. We still have another week or so, I’ll do a more comprehensive review on my return to the uk. Gracias Steve & Christine

We went for the third time on Jan 25, 2019 and it did not disappoint. Food is fantastic, the staff are truly amazing. The resort is small enough that you know the staff by mid week. The beach here is really nice, lots of tropical fish and great swimming. The entertainment was top notch with a classic rock band on our last night. We like that it is in the gated community and close to 5th Ave. Will definitely be back.
