Guests are sure to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Margarita's specialty restaurant, as they dine alongside the large pool area and take part in the delightful theme nights. Shanghai, the Asian restaurant, serves amazing buffets. Snacks are available 24-hours a day and the five bars, including two swim-up bars, serve unlimited drinks.

Activities abound at this non-stop resort! Enjoy watersports such as kayaking or body boarding, or venture over to the 18-hole golf course nearby! Hotel in general seemed to be lacking in general maintenance upkeep. Our shower door would not close completely, door handle on closet kept falling off, had friends that their air conditioning didn't work at all. Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Would not be a place that I would go back to. .. More>

Amazing Holiday!!

Just returned from an amazing 2 weeks in Mexico. The Riu Yucatan was a lovely hotel for the money you pay. Check in - after being delayed for an hour and a half coming out, to then traffic on the way to the hotel we were absolutely exhausted after travelling for nearly 24 hours door to door. On arrival it was so nice as everything was so smooth and we were in our room after about 10 minutes from getting to the hotel. Lovely welcome drink which is just what we needed! The bell boys had our luggage to our rooms after about 5 minutes of us getting to them which was great so we could have a quick change and get out for dinner. Rooms - perfect size! Bed and pillows were so comfy! So much wardrobe and drawer space. There was a safe, iron, umbrella, optics, fridge full of water, soft drinks and beers. The only very small negative was the bathroom part was very dated compared to the bedroom and was rusty and worn in parts. Nothing major but would have been nice if this was more modern like the rest of the hotel. We were in block 3, got wifi on the balcony and felt very central to most things. Food - really great food with plenty of choice in the buffet restaurant. Admittedly after 2 weeks it does get slightly repetitive but you couldn't fault the taste and the effort they put in. We tried the steakhouse twice and really liked it. However the Asian was a different story! We had to leave and go into the buffet as everything was hard and just tasted like it was either over cooked or reheated from the day before. We didn't try the Italian or the Mexican so can't comment on those. When looking to book a hotel for our trip one of the most important things for me and my parter was the food so I did spend time looking into reviews on this as we are 'foodies'. We weren't disappointed with breakfast, lunch or dinner apart from the Asian as I mentioned above. Beach and pool area - absolutely stunning beach! Slight issue with the seaweed on 2 of the days we were there but you can't fault the people that work there for trying to fix the issue - they were constantly clearing. We stayed at the main pool most of the time we were there and really liked it. Could get a little bit noisy at times with various activities and some guests who stay there but in the grand scheme of things not an issue. You can always go to the quieter pool by the Ibiza bar if you want to. We went in the swim up bar once-but as some reviews do also mention it is a little bit murky and unclean. So many sunbeds around the pool so you shouldn't ever really have a problem getting one unless you need one with an umbrella then you may have to get up early for that. Fresh new towels every day as well if you want them so another bonus. Staff - all the staff were lovely. From the guys at reception, to the bar and waiting staff and the entertainment team. All really friendly which is always nice. Wildlife - so much wildlife around the resort which is great to see. Personally I was in love with the monkeys which can always be found at the bridge every morning and some afternoons. Entertainment - the team do a great job all day of trying to keep guests entertained. There is yoga, volleyball, water gym, bingo during the day to name just a few. We witnessed a foam party while we were there as well which was something a little bit different. We watched a few things in the evening on the main stage, but didn't find many of these to be that great. Really liked the Michael Jackson but that was about it. Can't fault them for trying but just wasn't our thing. Overall this was a really good hotel for the price you pay and would come back if we were to visit Mexico again.

This hotel is amazing the staff work so hard and very friendly especially filburto on bottom bar in the evening lovely happy guy and manual our room cleaner so good. The grounds are kept in tip top condition beautiful. The food lovely everyday. Pools and pool area cleaned every evening. Only down bit was the evening entertainment rather poor just dancers on bit boreing. But I will defo go again and stay here for our first time in Mexico it was amazing. Beach lovely white sand and kept clean no problem with sun beds three big pools. 5th avenue bit of a pain being pestered but guess you expect that.

This was our 6th time stopping at the Rui Yucatan, lovely hotel which is situated on a wide white sandy beach, some shade can be found under the palm trees, the sea is warm and clear. The Hotel has 3 swimming pools with plenty of sun loungers 2 are down by the sea 1 of them have all the usual holiday activities going on pool games, water aerobics, even a foam party the 3rd pool is towards the back of the Hotel, this one is more serene which has it's own bar with the lovely Erica serving you your drinks. The Hotel Bars have branded drinks although the mixers can be a little flat, good choice of food something to suit everyone even the fussiest of eaters. All the staff are so friendly a little tip to them now and again is very much appreciated and they really do deserve it. The bedrooms are a good size with plenty of storage, great size wardrobe with a safety deposit box in it which is free of charge, iron and ironing board and an umbrella in case of any rain, luckily we didn't have any, a mini bar and fridge which is restocked every couple of days. There isn't a kettle in the room so we take a little travel one to make our morning cuppa You can walk into the local town Player Del Carmen along the road or the beach, the road takes about 30minutes the beach slightly longer, here you will find an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants, or for those who prefer to take a taxi it will cost you about £5 -£6 one way, the port is also situated here where you can catch a ferry over to the island of Cozumel for about £12 return journey. Great Hotel good value for money, give it a try.

Lots of information here, to enjoy the fabulous Riu Yucatan

We were a party of six adults from the ages of 51 - 70 years old. Flew from Birmingham Airport to Mexico (Dreamliner) on the 1st May 2017 for 14 nights, Premium Club return. We all stayed in the Ibis budget Birmingham Airport the night before departure. Hassle free check in at the airport and the NO 1 lounge was part of the premium club experience. Have flown Premium club before with Thomson and it's well worth the extra. Flight was brilliant and 9:30 hours departing and 8:30 on return. At Cancun airport it was the usual chaos but once out, the AC coach was very inviting. The Riu Yucatan Hotel This is our third visit, and yes we like it. There is a lot of repeated guests. My review I warn you will be long, it will take hours to write, however I feel you deserve as much information I can muster up for future guests, not just food is nice, nice staff and beach, you get my drift peeps . The hotel is 5 stars, it is 5 stars because of the facilities it has, several swimming pools, activities, a doctor on site, several restaurants etc. Guests forget how hotels are marked, the more the hotel facilities have, the higher the mark. Check in an easy process, fill in your name, residency etc then you will be given x2 door cards and two towel cards, please don't lose them, you maybe charged. You will get a sticky label to put on your luggage with your room number on. The staff will bring them to your room, please tip 20 peso each suitcase, that's a quid in UK sterling. You do not have to, but dragging them up the stairs as no lifts is hard work. We are always in room 1610, why? It's because it's quiet, it is at the end of the corridor, you get free wifi as near to reception and only one neighbour and not over looked by anyone. The rooms are simply furnished but has everything and everything in it I'd free. So it has toiletries, towels, iron and ironing board, even an umbrella, safe, free optics, and soda, pop, water and beer in the fridge. Your door can be double locked from the inside, and nothing was taken from our room. To be honest some guests in the past have said items have been taken from their room, how can this be true, security check cars/ bikes and bags before leaving the hotel !! So my lovelies, here is some information that will help you to have a good stay:- Currency - unless you come from the States or have $ floating around, please take Peso. From the British point of view, you will get more for your money. Dollar currency although widely accepted, will lose on the exchange. If you take sterling from home, the reception will change it at a better rate than Thomas Cook for example. In room safe - If valuable items are not placed in your safe, then hotel management will not be responsible, #tip# take a photograph of valuables in the safe in should case they go walkabouts. Problems in your room - please contact the front desk on ( ext. 9/1001/1002) they will send a repairman out to you. Front desk - can help with taxis, information, arranging a Doctor and collecting more free bottles of water if you need more. In reception there is an electronic large board for information, animation times and shows etc, plus the weather. Towel hut - is situated by the main pools near to the sea front. You can exchange as many times as you like in the day, hand your towel card in and you get it back, when you return the towel. This is open from 0830-1730pm, starting from 20:00 hrs, the pool technicians are cleaning the pools for the next day. Sun loungers - shouldn't be reserved but they are, especially by the animation pool, the Ibiza pool near reception should be the quiet pool, no unaccompanied children, no floats or ball games. It's becoming more popular this area with the Brits. Where the Americans and other nationalities commandeer the swim up pool. Free loungers everywhere and the beach lads will track one down for you. A tip would be nice for them, you try and carry six loungers at once on your back ! Bar times - Cancun lobby bar 10:30-0700 am Mezcal plaza bar 1800-12.00 am Tequila plaza bar 10:30-12.00 am Ibiza pool bar 10:30-17:30 pm Cozumel swim up bar 10:30-17:30 pm Tap water/ice - Tap water IS NOT SAFE to drink or brush your teeth Use bottled water only ! However ice cubes are safe at the hotel, as is food that is washed, e.g., tomatoes, lettuce, to name a few. Electricity - 110v, you will require USA adapters from the UK Ice machines - These are located on the ground floor of every building. Snacks - From 2200pm the out of hours snacks are available, hot dogs, sushi, tacos and sauces, sandwiches. Other information - You can use the facilities of the Tequila and Playacar hotels except evening dinner. We used the pools and had drinks most days at each of them. Animation team - Work extremely hard, it's preference which hotel you prefer, so we went to different ones. Beach - This is the best beach on the strip, if you walk along the beach to PDC it's awful, seaweed, dirt and stinks to high heaven. Fair play to the yucatan, palace and Playacar hotels for burying the seaweed. Flags are out, yellow is beware of currents and red is danger. Believe me the under currents can be strong and can take you miles away. Lots of activities on the beach, canoes and body boards free, quite expensive to use jet skis and paraguilding. Thomson reps - Been on virtually every excursion either with/without Thomson, some on our own by taxi as cheaper. The reps were really nice, no issues and were not pushy. They are both in resort most days, also a swap box is available should you run out of anything. Some tips - Take antihistamine tablets a month before travel and during your holiday, helps with mosquitoes Buy a body butter aftersun, lasts 12 hours, I recommend Hawaiian Tropics. Great for moisturising and keeping a good tan. I recommend factor 50 Australian gold sun bronzer cream. Lower factors no use, it is extremely hot and Mexico is near to the Equator. I wore it and my family and came back nearly black. Drink lots of water, and flat sprite if you get tummy troubles, eat plenty of chicken and white bread. Alcohol in resort, not strong beer, spirits ask for top shelf for branded ones. Champagne you can ask for any time, it's nice to have with orange . Added note - All food is ample. I tried the Asian 3 times, steak house once and the Italian once. All of them are fantastic and no need to book. However the Mexican you have to book, didn't go as not getting up at 0700 to do it. Staff are lovely and work really long hours. Note to hotel management - If you are reading this, I would like to put something to you that would be useful to us guests ... 1: At the main bar in reception, you have the smoking and non smoking area the wrong way round. Non smoking should be bar area, and smoking at the back. Otherwise, all non smoking guests have to come to the bar smelling like cigarettes smoke. I vape myself but family were smoking and we all felt this needs addressing. 2: it would've nice to have an outside seating area near reception bar instead of inside as very noisy , perhaps a few tables/ chairs on the green near Ibiza pool ? 3: one last observation, if at the Ibiza pool, guests miss out on the BBQ, can we have chefs come up to the Ibiza pool at lunch time ? I want to thank all staff and guests we made friends with for a fantastic time, we will be back, no other place I have been to in the world offers great food and drink in the middle of a mini jungle. Great ambiance and lovely surrounds. The walk into PDC is well worth the look at the mini ruins. Any questions please ask, and I am hoping I have given you a little incite to this fantastic resort in Mexico.
