Great time but 4*

My partner and I stayed here for 11nights in September. Hotel is kept immaculate at all times the staff work so hard but are always helpful and smiling. Food is ok(there feeding 3000 people a day) plenty of choices and all of a reasonable standard. Pools are great we personally alternated between the quite side and the party side -entertainment team were amazing so much fun(I even won a beer drinking contest) beach party and foam party were also great!! Beach was great always beds available-the sea was choppy to say the least so loads of fun but no good if you want a swim!! All in all we had a great time. I think if you want 5* luxury then go to a smaller more personal hotel .

Good hotel

So the hotel is very clean i will say that our room was cleaned every day and very well... i wouldnt worry about tipping as it makes no difference to the service if you are british....some of the staff here are rude and dont bother with you and some are very polite and have all the time of the day for you again tipping made no difference to how they were towards us! There are alot of americans here and to us most of them were very rude and loud it hasnt ruined my trip though as we just went to the latin pool which has a pool bar and was alot better there... also behind the latin bar on the beach is a beach bar which many people cant find...the animation team are brill macarena and burbuja are the two we spent most time with in the latin pool and were brilliant!! The evening entertainment is shocking its so boring and before each show you have the same two singers singing the same songs who would rather be at home i think as their faces are just so moody!!! The only entertainment worth doing is the beach party and the pool/foam parties as they are done by the animation team who really make it worth while going to...the food is ok but very much the same every day we tried all the restaurants but prefered the buffet...the pancakes and omelet were our go to in the morning as everything else was either over cooked or dry...if you like your tea and coffee in the morning take your own as its not great here but thats down to our own taste no fault of the hotel...before you come ask to be put in the old part of the hotel as the new part is very far away from the beach and the main restaurants.

Excellent

Just got back from a 2 week stay at the RIU REPUBLICA we went to celebrate my birthday and our friends wedding anniversary , we all had a great time ,the Hotel is lovely very clean and nothing is to much trouble from the staff down to the cleaners, bar staff, and waiters , they are all so friendly and helpful, the food is very good , and also the a la carte ,some are better than others ,we liked the steak restaurant best , we had a lovely room in the old part which is a bit quieter we had rooms 3258 & 3259 and were nice views you could see the sea. the Hotel caters for all ages they have beach parties, pool foam party's which are good for the younger ones , there are some good shows on in the evening , there is Jerk Chicken on the beach we had this most days at lunch time would definitely recommend ,overall we had a great holiday there are lots of day trips to choose from we went on the Out back safari really enjoyed, would definitely recommend this hotel.

Fell in love... Will be returning

Okay, so I have been to a few resorts throughout my life, I've been to Mexico, Dominican, Cuba, Amalfi, Antalya, Bodrum and the list goes on. For the price this place is just amazing, I can't say enough great things. We got to the resort earlier then expected, we we're greeted with strawberry daquiris in line, with the sweet hostesses, our bags were lined up by the bellboys and the line moved fairly quick, we got to the service counter and Junior was the one who greeted us, he let us know they had a room available but it was a double if we wanted the king he would have to check but might be 3pm (as marketed and written on tickets) I asked if he could do something it would be appreciated, the guy talked to the manager came back and said I have a room ready if you like with a king bed, I thanked him and I tipped him for making my life easier ( goes a long way with these guys, it's not that they are expecting it , but it helps) We we're guided to our room on the more exciting part of the resort which was by request. We had the most amazing spot personally, we were right by the transport bus to the beach and had an amazing overview of the resort. We walked into the room and I was not expecting such cleanliness and beauty, rooms looked like they had just been renovated, we had a king bed with a couch seating area, the washroom was beautiful with glass shower and granite all around. The view from the balcony was just to die for, we saw right into the city which was amazing. We changed and decided to go to the beach got there and what a beautiful beach for Dominican, it was clean with lots of beach chairs and shade, always vacant, never had to wake up at 6am to grab chairs, nor did we have to worry about theft or anything. It was possibly the cleanest beach I've seen in Dominican and kept clean daily, compared to the other resorts they have the best sized beach. The food was amazing I was a tad bit concerned due to being a vegetarian but I was quickly comforted, we ate at the mangu everyday for breakfast and lunch it was close to our room and quieter then the main restaurant, Everytime we approached, the staff would gather a table for us in the morning set with mamosas and coffee or tea of choice, always by our side asking if their was anything we needed. Lunch was exactly the same but replaced with beers and rum and coke, and a glass of water, the food was incredible, so many options to choose from. Dinner was served only at the main dining area, we liked our seating outside the restaurant and Wendy our server would have the same table ready for us every night ready with a beer and glass of wine for my fiance, the dining area had a separate vegetarian bar with hot food ready to go lots of meatless options which was just a bonus. The resort has 6 pools and a water park, each pool has a different themes, the 3 pools towards the back of the resort are more party like, they would pump music through out the day top 40s, hip-hop,by 3-4pm the party would really start at the pools, lots of drinking games and fun activities going on. The 3 other pools closer to the beach had softer themes, they had a 90's themed pool, a Spanish themed pool and I believe the last one was classical, a theme for everyone and your daily mood it was wonderful, lots of space around the pools with lots of chairs, shade was abundant!! The shows were great especially the fact they had 2 different ones going on at the same time, on the main resort/theatre they had more dance themed , magic shows, karaoke, dance nights and on the other end they had more active shows, couples themed, men vs ladies , comedy, danceoffs it sucked that we figured this out on our 3rd night we had no idea there was a second show, but after that we were there every night. They also have a club for the evenings, we went one night it wasn't something we enjoyed but definitely fun for those couples who just want to get out and dance. It was open till 2-3am every night. They also had a 24hr sports bar which was where we got our cappuccinos every morning on our way to the beach, we were always served with the biggest smile and given Togo cups for the beach. For any of you thinking of going please don't hesitate I was in shock after reading some of the reviews online, it really had nothing to do with the resort we stayed at. We we're so delighted with this visit that we booked our next vacation here again. Remember a bit of tipping goes a long way, it's not expected like it is at other resorts but it's always nice to appreciate the people who do things for you.

Beach is amazing, food/front desk service...not so much

Stay from October 2-7 2018. My husband and I were on our honeymoon. From the looks of the photos it seems that the pools overlook the beach as with the other RIU's we have stayed at. This is not the case, you walk up a small hill to get to the beach that separates the resort from the beach so you cannot see anything going on at the pools, or look out to the beach from lounging by the pool. You would think you were at a resort nowhere near the beach if you didn't make your way over the sand hill to see the beach. The beach is AMAZING. We pretty much camped out on our beach chairs under one of the many huts provided by the hotel the entire week. FYI: if you like calm water, this might not be the beach for you! No barriers, so the waves are large and needed to be a strong swimmer while we were there to enjoy. Beaches were pristine. The only complaint with the beach- people selling things as soon as you walk down the path. Can't even look at the ocean for a second without someone asking if you want your hair braided, a cigar, to buy sunglasses, or most annoying asking you to get them a beer from the all inclusive resort. These people camped out under the huts provided by the resort for guests, so I found that a bit weird that they were hanging around so close to guests (kind of annoying). We also saw quite a few women topless on the beach in front of our resort. I'm assuming its not allowed the way all the men were staring at the few women doing so. The pools were clean, many foam parties and activities during the day and night for all adult ages. Bartenders/staff/entertainment, all very kind and accommodating. We saw many people very intoxicated near the pools, needing wheelchaired to the doctor office on site. The water slides on the resort were fun. We saw a man go down the slide with his cell phone recording and someone drinking by the slides (both not allowed) so we figured we were allowed to ride down with our go pro and were turned away. The food was sub par. The Spanish ole restaurant and Kulinarium were amazing. The other restaurants were nothing great. The buffet breakfast was good but not great. We were on our honeymoon so the package is supposed to come with a welcome gift and a bottle of champagne. The champagne was to be delivered on our second day. We must have called 15 times to have the champagne delivered and it never was. We had an ocean view room which apparently means a far away side view of the ocean from our balcony. Our room was not cleaned for 2 days during our stay, no new towels or sheets. We were also out of our room for the day by 9:30 every morning so plenty of time to clean. We called many times and gave up after a while. Our travel agency booked our transportation to and from airport using AMSTAR (they sit at the entertainment stage during the day at the resort to book excursions, etc.). We rode to the hotel on a very large air conditioned bus, unaware that we would be making stops at 3 different resorts taking a total of 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to a hotel that should have taken 25 minutes total to arrive at. Then we were told that we must meet with the AMSTAR representative at 4:00 pm that day to book our return travel to airport (we didn't even make it because it was well past 4:00 pm by the time the bus arrived at the resort!). Found out during the meeting the next day its basically just to get you to book excursions and made us come back later saying they didn't have the information for our return travel when we made clear we were not booking excursions during our stay. Then our travel back to the airport we were on a smaller 15 passenger van. Once everyone was on the bus they told us we would be stopping at 2 other resorts to pick up 4 more guests when we only had room for 3. We had to cram into seats sitting on each others laps to fit. Overall, if you are on vacation to enjoy an amazing beach, pool parties, and nightlife party scene then you are going to the right resort.
