Visited this hotel 1/05/2016 -10/05/16 .what a fantastic first experience of Mexico.we were in block 7 above the Mexican restaurant. Our suite was immaculate very quiet no smell whatsoever (and I have a very sensitive nose) ..food was great a variation of every sort at every meal..no fighting for sun beds and a beautiful beach footsteps away ..drinks were plentiful and the bar staff were very accommodating. Entertainment staff involved all guests and tried there hardest to speak in all languages which is a hard task for anyone they worked very hard..as a self confessed fusspot I could not find one thing to complain about it is a fabulous hotel in a beautiful setting. We did trips to get the Mexican feel however cosmopolitan this hotel is the minute U step onto the beach there is no forgetting where ur at.would definitely recommend More>

Holiday at Riu Playacar hotel

Came home 6th May,4th time, first time since renovations. We will never go back, let was traditional Mexico before and has been spoilt. The food is poor, meat, veg are not cooked, even in th e steak house, and very spicy, which was not the case before. This is possibly. Why there are very few English there, which wasn't the case before.Very few of the staff speak any English. Most of the guests appear to be Argentinian. The hotel has a lot of Mexican guests,by 3pm it looks like the local lido,at one point I counted 35kids all in the pool, there are no pool rules, and no adult only pool,as there was before. It seems ok to sit around the pool and breast feed your baby.We saw a woman change a dirty nappy, take baby in the pool to wash of the remains of same. The room we had smelt of damp,we found the bed was damp, our clothes were damp in the wardrobe. There was little point joining in the pool games ,or going to shows,as it was nearly all in Spanish,as previous,it was in several languages. On the whole we feel we have paid a lot of money for a very poor holiday. Some the old staff told us they didn't like it now.If you want any peace at all don't go ,the noise is awful, also the Jakusi has been taken away. The weather was lovely but go to another hotel.I hope this helps you find a nice relaxing hotel. I was actually staying at the Riu Yucatan, however with a red Thomsons band was able to venture into this hotel and the Riu Tequila. I will start by saying, I did not sample the food. Ok, prior to the refurb, this hotel had no ambiance, it felt like eyes down for bingo. However since visiting three years ago, wow this hotel ticks all the boxes. The greys and silver ensure a stylish upgrade, in fact I didn't recognise this hotel. Certainly lots of work has gone into the face lift. The lobby I love as unlike the Riu Yucatan, the bar is to the side, so the lobby/reception has a relaxed feel and you can sit on leather sofas and chairs. You could not hear clatter from the bar and can actually hear reception staff. Well thought out and large. What impressed me most was the resort and hotel is flat . Meaning exceptional to guests with difficulty walking, children or wheelchairs. There are numouous ramps and you can get into the pools easily and as its beach side, guests will be spoilt for choice with shady and sunny areas, plus ample sun loungers. I particularly liked the swim up bar, which when we were there ( May 2016) was virtually empty and quiet. We did have a wonder over to Playacar Hotel several times and saw some shows. So this wasn't a one off. The court yard where the stage is wasn't crammed packed at 6:30 pm unlike The Riu Tequila or the Riu Yucatan. Maybe more popular shows will be packed, but it wasn't when we spent the evening having drinks. Staff seemed friendly and what we saw of the hotel rooms they look the same as other Riu hotels, that being said, some of the rooms here are actually sea view !! Everything was spotless. I gave this hotel 4* only because I did not sample any food. However I don't doubt that it wasn't good as other Riu's are fantastic. I would not hesitate if the price was good, I enjoyed it, especially the lay out. I will post some photos for you. We went the end of April until May 13 th 2016, weather fantastic and factor 50 sun screen as kept burning, it is intense. Enjoy More>
