My first stay at this hotel it's nice and renovated but kind of boring. Check in and check out was a breeze. The only reason I will not be staying at this hotel is that the rooms are so loud. You will not be able to sleep. Paper thin walls I could hear the couple next door doing their thing. How embarrassing! EARLY in the morning you can hear the cleaning crew. Slamming doors and dragging chairs. If you already booked here I highly suggest ear plugs they will be s life saver Food:The food is ok not bad I only tried the buffet. Maybe the Italian and Japanese restaurants are better . Location: the beach is beautiful crystal clear at playacar. The hotel it's located in a guard gated community where all the playacar hotels are. You will be neighbors to all other RiU hotels other neighbors are Sandos and The Reef . 5th ave is 30 min walking distance or 5 min taxi ride.it cost 90 pesos to take a taxi. This hotel has a Starbucks accross the street as well as kiosks and shopping. Very convenient. Xcaret is like 15 mins away in a taxi it cost $200 pesos to get there. hotel does not sell tours but there is travel reps there in the morning in theater room. You can buy from them. My tip is not to buy the tours . Take taxi it's easier and cheaper you don't have to be on s schedule or dropping off people hotel after hotel. It's a waste of time. Most of the parks can order a taxi for you. Xelha is about 40 mins away and Tulum about an hour away. Staff is friendly aside from one sour face guy at the front desk. You can feel the bad vibe as you were approaching the front desk not very good feeling Yikes!. Shout out to Rafa he was very nice and welcoming. Entertainment mc guy I'm sorry but he is not funny kind of obnoxious. The rest of the staff always had a smile on their face and helpful. Weather was HOT and Muggy but very little rain aside from forecast saying 80% chance of rain yay! We got some passing clouds no biggie. More>

Nice Resort Since Renovations

This is a very nice resort since they completed the renovations. New buildings, restaurants and pools. We were in Building 8 which has 4 floors and if you are on the top floor you had better be in excellent shape. 155 stairs to climb every time you want to go back to your room. No there are no elevators in any of the buildings. The rooms do not have coffee makers, turn down service or room service but other than that they are modern and very nicely decorated. The big plus with this resort was that they do not require reservations for their Al A Carte restaurants. We ate at the steakhouse 3 times and never had a problem getting seated immediately. The food was good. The buffet was excellent as all RIU hotel buffets are. They had nightly entertainment which was ok. The WIFi is only free in the public areas. I paid for premium WiFi and it was it and miss. Don't waste your money. Overall we had a great time. More>

Can't wait to go back!

Just 5 days in Riu Playacar and have the most beautiful days of my life. The people who work in this hotel are extremely amazing especially the ones who work in the pool bar and lobby bar. The have perfect cocktails and shots. The food are good especially the steak house. (DONT TRY THE ASIAN). The entertainment are good wherever you are on the hotel. The room are beautiful and the bed is the most comfortable bed I have been in a hotel. Go to Riu Tequila Disco, you're going to have a good time. Can't wait to be again at Riu Playacar. More>

Yet ANOTHER fantastic holiday
JIlott, Berkshire

So this is my 3rd review for the Riu Playacar. My friend and I arrived back in the UK on the 14th June after yet another fab holiday. Before we left, I requested a room in Block 8 with the hope that as a repeat customer they would be able to oblige. They did. We didn't have a view and were on floor 3 but it was so close to the pool and beach that we didn't really care. The room itself, 8315, was a nice room with a double bed - not two twins together (which I would have preferred) - the bed was really soft and when my friend moved, I moved and it wasn't a particularly comfortable bed...the bathroom was a nice size. The only thing I had a problem with was the fact that the glass partition on the shower was not frosted and therefore my friend had to wait until I had finished in the shower before she could do her makeup or use the hairdryer etc. The maid who cleaned our room did a good job, and we always came back to a nice towel art on the bed...our fridge was always fully stocked. The Restaurants: Thankfully, now, you do NOT have to book to eat at the a la carte restaurants, the restaurant which houses the lunch buffet becomes the Steakhouse and the Mexican in the evening. We ate at the steakhouse twice, I can recommend the BBQ Ribs and the Chicken - the chicken was huge and neither my friend or I could finish our meal...lol The service we received from the staff was always friendly and efficient - one warning though, if you are a larger party, the will not seat you until you are all there. The Asian restaurant was our favourite restaurant and we ate there three times during our stay. Again, the food was beautiful and the service we received was friendly and always asked how our holiday was going etc. We didn't try the Italian as we don't really like it, but we looked in and it looks nice! The main buffet restaurant was the same as always, the food was great, and the staff couldn't do enough to make sure we had everything we wanted. As with all buffet restaurants, it can become repetitive, but that's when you choose one of the other restaurants :-) Evening Entertainment: The entertainment was great as usual, we saw everything from the Mariachi Band, to American Street Dancing to the Mayan show. The Mayan show is probably one of my favourites that we saw. The entertainment team were as always a great bunch of guys and girls to have around. Always making sure that the guests are having a good time, dancing with everyone including the kids. If you don't want to take part in anything whether that is during the daytime activities or evening, they don't pressure you - unless they know you really well - they then really try to get you involved. I cannot say enough about these guys. Alex, Maria, Valentino, Sergio, Pedro, Hasciel, Azsus, Kareli, Manuel. The kids entertainers don't really get involved with other guests, but they are amazing with the children!!! Bars: We spent most of our day time sunbathing and would go to the pool bar mid afternoon for a beer or water, the staff there were again really great - Enrique, Pedro, Autauro and the rest of the team always made sure you didn't have to wait too long to be served and even asked if we wanted a top up if they were out clearing the tables :-D In the evening, we spent our time in the Theatre Bar where Osvaldo and Pedro looked after us...there are a couple of other guys too but I cannot remember their names...can thank them all enough. Grounds - they have planted a really nice plant feature on the main grass area by the Lobby and it really completes the area. All areas around the hotel are kept really clean, there were times that the pool area could have been cleaned a bit more thoroughly, but I guess they can't help it when people eat around it late at night after drinking...lol During they day, they do their best to ensure it's kept clean. The beach this time, had a little bit of seaweed on the sand, but there was hardly anything in the sea itself which was great as in November it was horrible. I think that's all I can say really, but if you have any questions at all, please do let me know. More>
