Enjoyed a short but very fun time
MICHAEL D.

We won this trip and even though it was a short vacation it was very enjoyable and relaxing. Plus we went from the mid 30s to the mid 80s, can’t complain about that. The only issue we had and the only reason I mention it is because it happened is we paid to upgrade to an ocean front room. Shortly after getting settled in the room the front staff came and told us the room was reserved for the following day and that no more ocean fronts were available. They were very sincere in their apologies and sent us champagne and chocolate covered strawberries as a gift. Again the only reason I mention it is because it happened. It didn’t ruin the trip and we weren’t in the room that much anyway.

This resort is perfect for families. We vacationed with my parents, teenagers, brother's family and baby. We were more than happy with this small and manageable resort. The food and beverage service exceeded our expectations and our rooms were clean and comfortable. It was very easy to book the perfect excursion through the AmStar rep at the hotel and the excursion itself was great. I highly recommend Riu Playacar if you need to meet a lot of needs and cover a lot of bases for a range of ages.

The best thing about the hotel is the staff! Very accommodating and professional. For an all inclusive resort, expect the frozen drinks (margs, Pina colada & daiquiris were made with low quality sucky sweet pre-made mixes. This is not a place to go if you are looking for quiet relaxation. Loud party music can be heard from the less populated swimming pool and beach area. Beach had large piles of seaweed which smelled unpleasant. Bus ride from airport to hotel was a 2.5 hour ride stopping at other hotels along the way. Brutal!!!

I will not use Apple Vacations as long as they schedule there flights with Frontier Airlines. Frontier tries to charge you extra any way they can. $300 in extras and then they wanted $2.95 for a Diet Coke. I am done with Frontier.

This is our 3rd year staying at the RIU Playacar. We are very happy with this resort. It is not too big so our group of 10 can keep in touch with each other. Always a fun & relaxing time.

Amazing!

We went there on our honeymoon and it was perfect! We contacted the reception ahead of time asking for a quiet room tucked away from the busiest block and they granted us our wish. Upon arrival we we're given refreshments while waiting in the reception and I must say everyone was so amazing. When entering the room everything looked perfect. Fridge stocked up with water soft drinks and beer. The spirit bar was also full. On top of that they prepared chocolate dipped strawberries and champagne for us. Such a nice touch! The buffet restaurant was amazing and so was the steakhouse. We did try the rest also but they were alright. Even the pickiest of eaters would definitely have plenty choices. Everything was labelled correctly and staff always happy to help. When visiting do not forget to tip as it is essential. All the bars where nice and plenty of drinks and cocktails to choose from. They also make great coffee. You could be chilling down the beach and they'd bring the drinks to you, also bbq on the beach most days. Seaweed was cleared away almost every morning so the beach was nice and clean. I absolutely loved everything.

GREAT HOTEL

From the moment we arrived at this wonderful hotel we knew we had made the correct choice, all the staff are very nice always smiling and nothing is to much trouble. The room we had 1119 was very spacious very clean and tidy and the maid took care of it daily/we were also surprised by towels shaped to look like animals. The pools were clean and plenty of sunbeds the beach was very spacious with lots of activities if you wanted them The food was always very good with plenty of choice from the restaurants, The bar staff are very busy but serve you quickly, like anywhere you have to wait your turn, never seen so many different coloured drinks, the barmen are also very smiley. We had a lovely 2 weeks and would recommend this hotel to anybody who might be undecided. We left on the 19 march and would rebook, thanks to all members of staff, David & Janet

This place is awesome! Beautiful, clean, great food, friendly staff, lots of beach chairs, quiet (who wants loud music blaring EVERY single minute?) Our assigned room was claustrophobic with view of the jungle, so we switched to an oceanview room and loved the large balcony and constant, cooling breeze. We had a problem with the bathroom fans and help was prompt and effective. Karen at the front desk was especially accommodating - thinking "outside the box". Loved the wide veranda for breakfast and dinner buffets and the fact that you didn't need to book the ala cartes. Most impressive, there was no "tier" system where some "all-inclusive" deals were better than others. The staff seem genuinely happy to be working there. Would love a no-smoking resort, and less emphasis on alcohol consumption, but I'm dreaming.

Relaxing 2 week break

We travelled as friends for a two week break. The check in process was seamless, we weren't happy with our original room (location only) and we were given choices of other rooms and given the option to check them out before we decided. The hotel is spotless and cleaned to a very high standard, especially our room and towels were changed daily on request. The fridge was kept well stocked, my only complaint of the room, was the open plan bathroom, which provided less privacy than we would have liked, especially as travelling with a friend, but we managed. The toilet and shower room, both had separate doors. The dining availability meant we weren't tied to specific times and the choices were plentiful and if you couldn't find something to eat I suspect you would have trouble wherever you went. We tried the Mexican, Steakhouse and Italian which were all good. We walked into Playa Del Carmen one day and it took about 30 minutes, there are shops across from the hotel, along with a Starbucks, which has free Wi-Fi (hotel restricts you to 2 devices) and we went on an organised trip to Chichen Itza, which is definitely worth a visit. We didn't really bother with the entertainment, so can't comment. The beach was lovely, beach towels were provided and we always got a sunbed, whatever time of day we went. Overall we loved our stay and would definitely recommend it and felt chilled and relaxed after our stay.

We had a lovely time at this resort. We usually stay next door at the Riu Palace. This resort is not as luxurious but great for a family with young kids. It's small and easy to navigate. The food is decent, lots of chooses. The beds comfy, showers hot. Also it is in a subdivision called playcar which is very nice for walking and shopping. There's even a Starbucks across the street ;)
