Brilliant hotel with very helpful staff. Nothing is a problem for the staff. Not the largest resort, but that suits us. Good choice of food and resturants. The resort never feels as though it is busy. Will return in the future More>

Spent two brilliant weeks here, couldnt find a fault at all. All the staff work so hard to make your holiday as best as it can be.They are so polite and friendly . Special thanks must go to the entertainment team, how they get through their long days with their enthusiasm i dont know how they do it. Our room was cleaned daily unless requested not to,and was spotlessly clean as was the whole hotel. The beach and pool areas have so many sunbeds you will never have to get up early to find one.The beach itself is much better in my opinion than Cancun. The food was always fresh, tasty and well presented by the chefs in the main buffet restaurant, the 3 other speciality restaurants were all worth visiting a couple of times each, during your stay. Special mention to alberto and froy who work in the bar by reception, best bar staff on site, always smiling, happy and excellant at making an assortment of drinks for your pleasure. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, we had a fantastic time. More>

Stayed here 6 yrs ago and the place has changed in style not the way the staff treat you the food at the buffet is awesome with the steakhouse being good also. The pools are a little small with a quiet pool and activity pool and a swim up bar pool. Lots of sun beds at any time of day. Don't look at weather forecast because it will say rain everyday but will get nothing. This place is well worth the money. The ocean is fantastic with no seaweed only thing u have to worry about is what tequila your gonna drink More>

This was our first visit to playacar. When arriving, we swiftly got checked in and bags taken to our room. The room was perfect with everything you need, including the optics.... Food was fantastic. Me and my partner enjoyed the Mexican and Asian restaurant. Drinks were good with premium alcohol used. The pools and beach were fantastic. Entertainment was ok but im not one for hotel entertainment. The staff worked sososo hard. Pedro (The DJ) and Emmanuel were a great laugh and are defiantly worth a mention. The reason i did not give the hotel a 5 star review was due to our room (3203). Not necessarily the room itself but where it is positioned. We could not enjoy the balcony due to the immense noise coming fro the hotel next door. The aircon units were running 24/7 and drowned out any sort of conversation we attempted to make on the balcony. I've read a few things regarding these are the rooms that are allocated to Thompson but im not holding that against them. Overall the holiday was brilliant. Would defiantly return, just in another room. *Excursions, visit the guys in the green by the theater and i would recommend the swimming with turtles and cenotes visit. Our guide was absolutely brilliant and wish i had bought some money along to tip him.* More>

Lovely hotel in many ways beautiful staff all round along with basic rooms very clean , pleasant excellent air conditioning and bright lovely maids although slight down side we had noisy neighbours and an interconnecting door . We were in block 8 near to the pool and beach , if you like to watch the sunrise and set then request block seven equally as nice , Although block 1&2 are near the evening noises and blocks 3&5 very noisy as there are power plants behind these blocks from the hotel behind and although Riu have screened them still very noisy. The food very enjoyable and drinks great too , all around a lovely stay , we went to the Riu Yucatan a few times for the day for a change just as nice maybe sightlier younger crowd but not by much .. beaches are awesome.. staff work very hard we think maybe Riviera maya a little more Spanish than Cancun as last year we stayed in Cancun in the Riu Peninsula Palace and we preferred this but it was a little more expensive but there appears to be slightly less Spanish here . We much preferred our massages in Cancun as the staff were much better , more professional too , as in the Riu Playacar they kept whispering, shouting PST to each other and sniggering and along with the location on the beach the massages were right behind the speakers at the busier pool so there for no relaxation was experienced or pressure from the massages very poor and no effort by the Spa staff sadly .. but the rest as mentioned very enjoyable.. Riu entertainment work very hard too . Our room was away from the stairs on the top floor in room 8303 block 8 . Very happy with it . One mention , the only air conditioning is back at your room or when your in the restaurant and rest room so it does get very hot .. mosquitoes Agh ! Very painful and sand tics too sea amazing and plenty to do hope you find this helpful. Thank you Riu for another pleasant stay More>
