Fantastic Holiday!

We have arrived home today after spending 2 glorious weeks at this lovely hotel!. Where do I start?.....There are 8 blocks and block 7 & 8 are the 2 closest to the beach. The food.....there is so many choices, and caters for everyone, there 5 restaurants, the buffet, the Asian, the Italian, the Mexican and also the steak house. The staff are always happy and cannot do enough for you. I will also mention Abel who was our waiter in the evenings, and he always welcomed you with a smile. I will also mention the Maitre D who is responsible for all restaurants and his name is William, any questions or requests he is the person to speak to. The bars.....there is a pool bar, lobby bar and there are 2 bars in the theatre, and the person responsible for these is Eduardo, and once again he cannot do enough for you, there is even waiter service on the beach and around the pools. There is also a shop in the hotel and a gym. There are several shops opposite the hotel. You can get a taxi to Walmart which is massive and you can buy anything there at really good prices, and this will cost you 120 Mexican pesos one way, or you can walk into 5th Avenue which takes approx 25 mins. The evening entertainment was okish, depending on what you like. My only gripe is that the pool bar should be for adults only, as there was a number of children in the pool bar causing problems, and there is 3 other pools, including one for children. The housekeeping was really good and left rooms immaculate, maintenance and gardeners were on top of everything, seaweed on the beach was cleaned every morning before breakfast. Just one other thing, there was no kettle and brew kit in rooms, however, the optics and fridge was replenished every other day. All in all one very fantastic holiday. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask

We arrived on Saturday and were greeted with a welcome drink and were run through the variety of things the resort had to offer. We arrived before our rooms were ready so we went and had lunch. The rooms were clean and everything was stocked. As the 6 days went on we did notice the sheets were kind of dirty and the fridge was not being restocked. Also the beds to get a little damp in the evenings as previously stated. The bathroom is big but the shower floods the floor sometimes so be careful for that. As for the food we enjoyed almost every meal although 5 out of the 8 of our group did get sick during the evening while on this trip. The meals were good with variety. The pools ad beach were great with plenty of music and activities. We enjoyed the swim up bar the most. Very quick and easy to get drinks. Overall it was a great vacation and I would come back to Riu Playacar again but might mix it up and go with somewhere else next time.

Second time staying in riu hotel and once again not been let down the staff were so friendly and helpful the hotel was very clean and tidy .the grounds were nice and modern the food was very good and that's gd for me to say as I'm a fussy eater and never had trouble finding something to eat the specialty restaurants where really gd would recommend the steakhouse excellent.the room was a decent size and was kept very clean and tidy by the maids, the staff work so hard to make your stay the best it can be .the hotel is right on the beach which is really nice the beach is amazing the sea was a bit choppy but ok to go swimming nice and clear and there was always a breeze on the beach which was nice. The entertainment team do a great job in the day getting you to do activities i.e. Volleyball darts shooting etc etc.at night they do things for kids before the shows start which were really good different one every night .there are shops just outside the hotel which is handy if you need anything and it is totally safe to go out the people are so nice and friendly there are a few kiosks which sell trips we was a bit worried about but we went and booked one and it was totally fine we did the quad biking and swimming in the underground cave which was amazing highly recommend our tour guide Francisco was really nice and told us loads of information about the caves and surrounding area it was cheaper than booking with the rep in hotel so win win.there was other riu hotels in the resort which you can go in we went to one across the road called riu tequila to go to the sports bar which was ok I am glad I paid the extra to go in riu playacar as the tequila was full of wild animals walking round and jumping in bins for food which wasn't nice and it was not on the beach and didn't look as clean as our hotel . Oh also in the day round the pool the waiters and waitresses walk round asking do you want drinks which is really good as you don't need move off your sun lounger 😬 It's the only riu hotel which do it we were told by the rep she said the manager of the hotel asked the staff if they would it .would deffo go back to this hotel really enjoyed it couple more things if you like a brew in the morning when you wake up take your own kettle and coffee and tea bags as there is no tea or coffee machines in the room can't think of anything else to put apart from we had an amazing time highly recommend going

Visited as two couples back in October, couldn't fault the hotel or the rooms at all. The place is lovely, right on the beach with a nice modern feel. We did go in rainy season so got about 5 days of rain and didn't come home with the tan I thought I would, however still a fantastic holiday. The staff at the Riu really make it, always happy to see you. And the strawberry daiquiris are included in all inclusive so can't grumble one bit! Miss you Playacar!

This was our 5th visit to Mexico and our 3rd in Playa del Carmen. We'd previously stayed at the Riu Yucatan which we loved and we weren't disappointed with the Riu Playacar, the hotel is modern, bright, spacious and extremely clean, all the staff work very hard and we tipped regularly as they work very long hours and deserve it. The Riu Playacar was smaller and quieter than the Yucatan but I liked this, it never felt crowded, although it was busier at the weekends but it never stopped us getting a table in the restaurant or sun beds on the beach. We stayed in Block 6 overlooking the rear of the block which was lovely and quiet with views of the gardens and visited frequently by the agoutis which we liked to watch from our balcony. The rooms are excellent and spotless, the cleaners do a great job. There is free wifi in all areas of the hotel, including the bedrooms and even on the beach. The food at all mealtimes was excellent with loads of choice and there were different themed nights several times a week. We tried two of the a la carte restaurants, no need to book these, you just had to turn up, although I expect in peak season you may not always manage to get a table. The Italian was lovely but our favourite of the two was the steakhouse which was superb!! The beach is fabulous, the bar staff come round regularly with a selection of cocktails made up, beer, water and soft drinks, or you can just walk to the bar and get your own. In the afternoon they often bring iced coffee and you can choose to have a shot of coffee liqueur or Baileys in it, delicious!! We mostly stayed on the beach but went in one of the pools a couple of times and seemed to always be sun beds available round the pools. There is a shopping centre straight opposite the hotel which is nice for a wander round but a bit on the expensive side. Playa del Carmen is a short walk away but we took taxis as it was so hot, a 5 minute drive and only 90 pesos, we also got a taxi to Walmart a couple of times (120 pesos) and then walked to Fifth Avenue from there. We took a taxi to Xcaret which cost 180 pesos, well worth a visit, we booked our tickets through our Thompson rep but you could just pay when you get there if you prefer. We did two other trips to Tulum and Sian Ka'an (amazing place). We had a fabulous holiday at the Riu Playacar and would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again.
