The best thing about the hotel is the staff! Very accommodating and professional. For an all inclusive resort, expect the frozen drinks (margs, Pina colada & daiquiris were made with low quality sucky sweet pre-made mixes. This is not a place to go if you are looking for quiet relaxation. Loud party music can be heard from the less populated swimming pool and beach area. Beach had large piles of seaweed which smelled unpleasant. Bus ride from airport to hotel was a 2.5 hour ride stopping at other hotels along the way. Brutal!!!

I will not use Apple Vacations as long as they schedule there flights with Frontier Airlines. Frontier tries to charge you extra any way they can. $300 in extras and then they wanted $2.95 for a Diet Coke. I am done with Frontier.

This is our 3rd year staying at the RIU Playacar. We are very happy with this resort. It is not too big so our group of 10 can keep in touch with each other. Always a fun & relaxing time.

Relaxing and comfortable holiday

We had a lovely time hear and we would have given 5 if we had not had the constant problems with trying to access our room due to the electronic lock. Otherwise our room was very good and near the Pool and Sea in Block 7, a minor problem regarding the first room originally given which Fernando at the reception kindly sorted out for us immediately :+) The food with a nice variety but the salad bar could be better and like most AInc it was never hot enough for us. We mostly enjoyed the Mexican, Steak House and best of all the Asian Restaurant. All the waiting staff throughout were great. Patti was our favourite lady from the Pool Bar who took care of our drinks daily was always exceptionally good as seemed genuinely happy and attentive at all times :+). The sea edge did have a lot of seaweed but the staff did not stop doing their best to clear it. It did not stop us from enjoying the sea and playing in the waves daily and all the life guards watching the pool and sea were very good. Riu Playacar is perfect if you enjoy walking as you could walk along the beach from the hotel a good 40 minutes stroll either way. You ended up at the centre of Playa Carman one way which is a busy town with a lot of shops, some restaurants, places where you could arrange an assortment of trips. Just outside the hotel there is a parade of shops & you can walk or jog for miles round Playacar safely & securely & to Playa Carman. We did not get involved with much day or evening entertainment although plenty going on apart from the 1 afternoon doing the bingo at the Pool Bar which was fun & also the foam party also very good. Angel, Mary Loo and the young lady with the dental braces (sorry we did not get your name) from the animation team deserve a special mention as they are so dedicated fun loving :+) We regularly went to the lobby bar Anana where Froy made our drinks to perfection & always welcomed us warmly :+) You can also use the facilities of 2 other local Riu Hotels but in our opinion the Riu Playcar was the best. If we were to visit PlayaCar again we would stay here. We don't usually bother mentioning staffs names but they really are all so genuinely friendly and work hard to make you feel welcome to enjoy your stay.

Stayed at Riu Playacar for 10 nights with my friend. We visited Cancun Mexico for Christmas and New Years. We had the most relaxed holiday. Food, accommodation was 5 stars. Activities during the day with Claudia were very enjoyable and lots of fun. We did the aqua aerobics and Zumba on the beach. We can’t say enough about this place. Everything was perfect. The Mexican people were so friendly. Will def be paying it another visit sometime. Thank you

Every member of this hotel is fantastic the check in and out was excellent asked did we have a nice time which I like when I check out.The food and drink was good the room had a sea view and was spacious ala carte was good and the staff in the steak house work so hard like the rest off them.Never had to rush and get a sun bed there was always some availably all day .This hotel seems more laid back than the other 2 which I like the beach didn't have much sea weed apart from my last 2 days and the sea got a bit choppy. The only complaint is the soft drinks around the pool bar tasted flat like the had know gas in it.Cant wait to come back because I just love Mexico and the people here.

I've been visiting this area for a few years now, usually Saturday at The Tequila across the road, unfortunately they wouldn't allow single occupancy so we decided to book up at the Playacar. The food was great, lots of variety, the restaurant staff were fairly quick, and friendly as always. They did forget to bring over some drinks from time to time, but we're all human, so no complaints here. The lobby area was decorated beautifully for chrsitmas. Bar staff were okay. If you're after evening entertainment then head across the road to the Tequila, you won't find much worth watching here. Hotel rooms were cleaned well. Exercise caution if it rains in the corridors of the apartment blocks as they have shiny floors, soon as it rains the floors are lethal! I slipped and managed to stop myself from falling 3 times, plus 1 time elsewhere on the hotel grounds, it's literally like an ice rink. Yellow cones are put out to show that the floors are slippery but that doesn't solve the problems. (I actually see the aftermath of an old lady who'd slipped, she spent the rest of her time there bandaged up and being wheeled around in a wheelchair) Personally I'm not a fan of the new refurbs of the hotels on the complex, but that's just my personal opinion. Would be good to see a kettle in the rooms, bearing in mind it's 5star rating. Summary, if you've not been before, go, you won't regret it. If you've been before, you might find that you preferred things the way they were. Also they now give you key cards for your room, these failed us 7 times out of 14 nights, we kept having to go back to reception to get them reset, just go back to the old fashioned key! They worked. I'll leave it a few years before I look at revisiting, which is a shame. On the whole, it's what you make of it.. 7/10
