nice, but....

This was our second trip to Riu Palace in the Bahamas. We had a good time hanging around the new pools, but if you want to get a chair, you have to go down around 6:00 in the morning and put a towel on the chair that you want to save, if you wait till 7:30, all the chairs will have been taken. The first time we went was in 03/17 and it was not an adults only resort, this year they made it an adults only resort and it was nice not having little kids throwing balls around in the pool as your trying to relax, don't get me wrong, we have 7 grand kids, when we go on vacation though, we like to relax. The resort closed for three months last year and underwent a major renovation. They really did a nice job on the place with one exception. They use to have a lobby bar that was such a nice place to spend time and meet people. For some reason they eliminated the lobby bar and now the only bar you can get a drink in after 6:00 pm is the sports bar. As you would assume, and you would be right, this bar gets very crowded and loud. For that reason alone, we will be trying a different place next year

Just returned from 4 night stay at the RIU and we had a wonderful trip! After reading some of the reviews I was a bit worried but found the hotel to be way above what I expected. I would suggest they have a better system for reservations in the A La carte dining rooms so people know where and when they are eating, and maybe heat the pool bar. Some reviews said the drinks were watered down but that was not an issue at all. And they had real coffee!! Made with an espresso machine ! Other then that we felt that the staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms was clean ~we had a fabulous view of the ocean and Atlantis from our 11th floor balcony. I am sure some people would not like that you see into the back side of Atlantis but that did not bother me. We loved that we could easily cut through Atlantis at night to go to the marina village or the casino. We also walked to the ferry from the hotel within about 10-15 mins and spent about 2 hours in Nassau which is all you need. The ferry was $8 round trip and the "guide" had lots of interesting facts as you rode along. I would definitely return to the RIU.

Overall, we were very happy with the friendly hotel staff. The only negative was the room housekeeping of our room. We were happy with the response of the management when we had an issue with an unruly guest.

After reviewing some of the comments on this resort we were very surprised at how nice the resort is. The beach is beautiful with great service for chairs, but could use bar service on beach. They set up a bar in the lobby so why not set one on the beach. The only other complaint is how you can't sign up to reserve a spot in the specialty restaurants, they need to do like other Riu and sign up a few days ahead or in the morning. We attempted to get into the Steak house 2 times and could not get in. The resort was spotless, the rooms remodeled and very nice. We had a housekeeper named Tamara and she was amazing! So nice and friendly and helping me with anything I wanted. This is a very contained resort, meaning it is not like a Secrets or Breathless that is a sprawling resort, it is one building and everything is close, but that makes It nice. I would recommend this resort and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the beach and water was in the Bahamas. It was as nice as most of the other places we have been.

This was our second time at this resort. They do a wonderful job with food!!!! I am excited to see the remodel. We booked a trip to exuma from the rep at the hotel. We had a wonderful day. However when we booked the trip we told the sales girl that my daughter had pain issues and she never said a thing about the speed boat slapping the water for 1 hour on the way out to exzuma. If she was good at her job she would have incouraged us to fly instead!!!! That was a little disappointing that she did not care about her clients!!! My daughter and myself were in pain the next few days after that trip!!!! And that could have been avoided!!! The trip it self was great after we got past the open water and the gentelman were wonderful. But she should know what she is selling!!! Also there is no ladders to get into the boat!!! Also something the sales person should know when she is putting a older person on a boat with no ladder. And a woman with pain issues. The actual hotel stay was fantastic!!!!!!!

Awful vacation

This was our worst vacation we've had. Started out with a room right in front of elevators. Had to wait one night before we could switch rooms. The following day had to put our stuff in storage until room was ready at 3:00. Day 2 water was not on which happened sporadically for a couple days. Day 3 my husbands wallet was lost (stolen) on the property. Day 4 safe in the room was broken and had to get repaired. Overall no service on the beach, pool or lobby. We invited a family to go on this trip with us and I am thoroughly embarrassed that they had to put up with all this too.

Non-Smoking Rule

When I go on vacation I am getting away from home rules. NOT being able to smoke was a slap in the face to me. This was my 3rd trip to the RIU and I was made to feel like a 3rd class guest, being made to go outside to smoke. Being able to smoke in the RIU was what I really liked about the hotel. I can assure you that I was not the only guest to feel this way. I am forced to smoke outside at home and I do not feel I should have to do it on vacation. The 24hr sports bar was empty as was the bar in the lobby. It was really sad because all of us smokers were forced outside with our drinks and to socialize. Very bad decision on RIU 's part.

The hotel itself is outdated and smells. There was something eating the wood in the dresser in our room (bugs). The balcony I'd classify as unsafe and the service was hit or miss. Food was decent and drinks were good. Beach was ok, but crowded with pushy vendors at times. Out of the 7 or 8 all-inclusive's we've stayed at, this was by far the worst.

I am currently staying at the Riu Palace and wanted to leave a quick review. The food is very good and there is great selection in the buffet. It is a good thing that the selection in the buffet because unless you are willing to wait in line for an hour, you will not get in to one of the other restaurants. The staff are all very friendly and do their best. Service in the main lounge area can be slow but that appears to be a lack of staffing. The hotel is nicely renovated and very clean. Or room is nice and the maid does an excellent job. Our view over the pool and out to the ocean is incredible. The balcony is quite small but there is still enough room for two people to sit. The pool area is very nice and the jerk hut is great for a quick lunch. The beach is beautiful and the beach staff are helpful with getting you lounge chairs and umbrellas. My one huge complaint is that after dinner you can only get a drink in the main lounge/show area. It gets very crowded and can take forever to get a drink. It is also very loud and turns in to a kind of dance club after the show. That is great if you are in to the whole loud music and being inside thing, but when I vacation in the Caribbean, I prefer to hang out outside. There is plenty of great spaces to sit outside but nowhere to get a drink and no staff walking around. If you want a drink, you have to walk to the bar inside and deal with the crowd. I feel that the resort could make great use of the outdoor space at night and all it would take is opening the bar in the pool area. It appears to be a cost saving measure by only having the two bar tenders and few servers working in the lounge. We decided to make the walk over to the nearby liquor store and spend $60 on a case of beer that we will put on ice and bring down with us to enjoy outside after dinner. This is highly disappointing when you pay for all inclusive. Even having servers in the lobby area would alleviate some of the crowd around the bar and it would be nice to have somewhere a little more quiet to have a drink. There is a great coffee bar area in the lobby that could easily become dual purpose and serve as a lobby bar in addition to a coffee bar. The renovations are very nice and modern but I feel the sacrificed functionality for being chic. Having stayed at several other Riu properties in the past, I will say that I am disappointed with the amenities at this one and would not consider it a Riu Palace property.

Spring Break for Adults :(

Having been to the RIU in Aruba several years ago (a great experience!), I was looking forward to visiting their property in Paradise Island. Unfortunately, this was a VERY different experience. POSITIVES - the property was recently renovated and that was apparent in their general facilities (lobby, restaurants, bar). The food was solid quality for an all inclusive with a good and rotating variety at the buffet. Staff were generally very pleasant and a few stand-outs for me were LG who was one of the entertainment/fitness staff who was lovely and super energetic leading the daily water aerobics. I also had a spa treatment which is one of the best I ever had. Gilda was absolutely aces and worked out months of built up kinks in my back. NEGATIVES - They did not invest in the rooms as much as the general property. We had what I can only guess is an older suite with a very small balcony and dated upholstery. It was clean though and when you spend little time in the room, that is the most important quality. In terms of dinner, they have 4 speciality restaurants (Japanese, Indian, Fine-Dining and Steakhouse). In 5 nights, we did manage to get to 3 out of 4. However, it was all poorly organized. You usually make reservations and have set seating times in the morning. This was a "just show-up" scenario, so lines were forming at 5:15 for their opening at 6. I don't want my pool time cut short because I have to line up for dinner. We found that showing up around 7:45 - 8 was good for a 2nd seating, but one of the restaurants made everyone wait until the first round of tables had completely cleared out before they would let anyone else in. Having some experience in restaurants, that doesn't seem wise from a traffic flow perspective. When I tried the steakhouse, there were tables clearly available, but we were turned away at 8 p.m. and told they weren't doing any more seatings that night (very early for dinner on vacation!). As for the pool scene, this was probably my most disappointing part. They only have one major pool on the property, it was cold and the pool itself was drab. Alongside, there is a smaller pool with swim-up bar. This is where the Adult Spring Break comes into play. That pool was rumored to be quite warm (we never went in), mostly because people got in there in the morning and wouldn't get out all day. So the water was basically pee. We also heard that they had to clear the pool out entirely mid-afternoon as someone had vomited in the water. Clearly, there is some expectation that guests know how to behave, but the scene was just ridiculous and the set-up of having only the one swim-up bar in a small side pool was not ideal. The beach front was very nice and reasonably clean so we spent most afternoons there. The evening scene wasn't terrific, with only 1 show, starting at 9:30, so early if you have a late seating dinner, and just the one club/bar area. We ended up walking to the casino at the Atlantis next door most evenings. So, with high expectations, I was disappointed. I would think certain property standards would be maintained at all locations, but this one missed the mark. I wouldn't plan to go back.

My husband and I stayed at the RIU Palace in Paradise Island during the first week of May. When I was booking our trip I was originally looking into the Atlantis but the prices were ridiculous. I ended up booking the RIU because we got a great deal from NYC for 5 nights and it’s walking distance to the Atlantis. When we arrived check-in took all of 5 minutes and we were able to get into our room before 12pm, which was fantastic. Everyone at the hotel was super friendly. It’s not a huge resort with a ton to do, so if that’s what you’re looking for go elsewhere. This did not bother us at all since we were just looking to relax and enjoy the warm weather. We do not need a ton of activities or excitement keep us satisfied. Our room was beautiful and the view was breathtaking. The hotel itself is beautiful. The buffet was perfect for all meals. Delicious food and plenty of options. Not really sure why people would complain about the buffet since we found literally nothing to complain about, and were pretty picky eaters. We prefer to eat dinner later at night so the lack of reservations for the a la crate restaurants didn’t bother us. We did get to try the Japanese one night and it was decent. The other nights we either ate at the buffet for dinner or ate at the Baha Mar or Atlantis. We walked over to the Atlantis a few times to walk around the marina, gamble in the casino, walk through the dig and eat at Nobu. We also went to the Baha Mar one night and ate at Katsuya, which was amazing. The Baha Mar also has a great casino and the cab ride wasn’t very long or expensive. The cappuccino bar in the lobby of the hotel was awesome. You could get coffee or snacks at any time during the day. Between that, the buffets, room service and the sports bar, there is food available literally 24/7. The sports bar had some shows at night, which were pretty typical for all-inclusive resort type entertainment, so I’m not sure what more people are expecting here. After the shows the DJ plays fun music and a lot of people hang around to drink and dance. I thought that this hotel was great. The Bahamas in general isn’t my favorite island to visit, but if I go back I’d definitely stay at the RIU again and I’d recommend it to anyone I know planning a trip there!

First of all the RIU Palace Paradise was a beautiful place to stay. The room was wonderful and the staff was super friendly and welcoming, but that's where it ends. I had heard so many good things about a RIU hotel that I couldn't wait to go. At no time have I've been to a resort where all the fun has to had off the property. They had no where for you to shop or even if your middle aged like me to come and party. I walked into one of the live entertainment events and the bad was horrible. They were singing the Righteous Brothers, seriously. This is not what I expected. Staying at previous resorts, there was always some sort of activity going on that kept you on the resort and kept you up all night. Now I'm not trying to prevent anyone from going to the RIU Palace Paradise, I just want you to know what to expect. Make sure you bring your bluetooth speaker, you're gonna seriously need it.

Return visit 😀

Our second time there and there are so many positives to it. Transfer was good - about 25 minutes from airport Check in was easy with a welcome drink. Our room was ready so that was a bonus. It was clean with nice bathroom - no fan!. Mattress a little on the soft side. We had a king size bed. Lovely beach, lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas. Just gave the helper a couple of dollars to set the 10 chairs we needed for our group. Buffet was excellent with tons of choices - tons of veggies, fish and meats, fruit and desserts yummy 😋 3 specialty restaurants- but this is where they need improvement with accessing them. No reservations but you need to line up as early as 5:30 to try and get in at 6:30, with the risk of not being seated until 7:30/8. Having been too many AI I don’t understand why they don’t allow guests to secure 1 restaurant per 3 night stay. It was a disappointment. The men in our group actually preferred the buffet anyway. Steak house was very good. Pools are lovely - 1 was very party atmosphere- tons of stags, stagette groups or special birthdays (30 or 40). Large number of 25-35 yr olds. But also many like us, late 40’s couples. No kids allowed. One pool was wheelchair accessible which was great. At least 20 steps to beach. Hotel Renos are fantastic. Night was ok in all night bar with stage. Entertainment was ok. Daytime workouts around pool. Some volleyball beach. We stayed on beach each day as we prefer it. Another area for improvement is to have a better grasp on cruise ship guests using hotel lounge chairs - public beach so can’t stop them from beach but each day the Riu staff asked people to get off lounge chairs in a nice manner. Cruise guests came 3 out of 4 days. Seemed to gather close to us but it was ok. Atlantis is next door so very convenient. We also went to the marina one night and it was lovely. The yachts are stunning. We would return for a third time as it’s a great 3 night getaway fairly priced with many pluses
