The Rui was a really nice resort. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were very nice! The only complaint I have is regarding the restaurants. They give you a comment about first come first serve. Lines are ridiculous and they don’t take reservations! They really need to state better about how to line up to eat at the specific restaurants. They honestly should consider reservations when you checkin like many other resorts!

This was our second trip to Riu Palace in the Bahamas. We had a good time hanging around the new pools, but if you want to get a chair, you have to go down around 6:00 in the morning and put a towel on the chair that you want to save, if you wait till 7:30, all the chairs will have been taken. The first time we went was in 03/17 and it was not an adults only resort, this year they made it an adults only resort and it was nice not having little kids throwing balls around in the pool as your trying to relax, don't get me wrong, we have 7 grand kids, when we go on vacation though, we like to relax. The resort closed for three months last year and underwent a major renovation. They really did a nice job on the place with one exception. They use to have a lobby bar that was such a nice place to spend time and meet people. For some reason they eliminated the lobby bar and now the only bar you can get a drink in after 6:00 pm is the sports bar. As you would assume, and you would be right, this bar gets very crowded and loud. For that reason alone, we will be trying a different place next year

Just returned from 4 night stay at the RIU and we had a wonderful trip! After reading some of the reviews I was a bit worried but found the hotel to be way above what I expected. I would suggest they have a better system for reservations in the A La carte dining rooms so people know where and when they are eating, and maybe heat the pool bar. Some reviews said the drinks were watered down but that was not an issue at all. And they had real coffee!! Made with an espresso machine ! Other then that we felt that the staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms was clean ~we had a fabulous view of the ocean and Atlantis from our 11th floor balcony. I am sure some people would not like that you see into the back side of Atlantis but that did not bother me. We loved that we could easily cut through Atlantis at night to go to the marina village or the casino. We also walked to the ferry from the hotel within about 10-15 mins and spent about 2 hours in Nassau which is all you need. The ferry was $8 round trip and the "guide" had lots of interesting facts as you rode along. I would definitely return to the RIU.

Overall, we were very happy with the friendly hotel staff. The only negative was the room housekeeping of our room. We were happy with the response of the management when we had an issue with an unruly guest.

After reviewing some of the comments on this resort we were very surprised at how nice the resort is. The beach is beautiful with great service for chairs, but could use bar service on beach. They set up a bar in the lobby so why not set one on the beach. The only other complaint is how you can't sign up to reserve a spot in the specialty restaurants, they need to do like other Riu and sign up a few days ahead or in the morning. We attempted to get into the Steak house 2 times and could not get in. The resort was spotless, the rooms remodeled and very nice. We had a housekeeper named Tamara and she was amazing! So nice and friendly and helping me with anything I wanted. This is a very contained resort, meaning it is not like a Secrets or Breathless that is a sprawling resort, it is one building and everything is close, but that makes It nice. I would recommend this resort and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the beach and water was in the Bahamas. It was as nice as most of the other places we have been.

This was our second time at this resort. They do a wonderful job with food!!!! I am excited to see the remodel. We booked a trip to exuma from the rep at the hotel. We had a wonderful day. However when we booked the trip we told the sales girl that my daughter had pain issues and she never said a thing about the speed boat slapping the water for 1 hour on the way out to exzuma. If she was good at her job she would have incouraged us to fly instead!!!! That was a little disappointing that she did not care about her clients!!! My daughter and myself were in pain the next few days after that trip!!!! And that could have been avoided!!! The trip it self was great after we got past the open water and the gentelman were wonderful. But she should know what she is selling!!! Also there is no ladders to get into the boat!!! Also something the sales person should know when she is putting a older person on a boat with no ladder. And a woman with pain issues. The actual hotel stay was fantastic!!!!!!!

Awful vacation

This was our worst vacation we've had. Started out with a room right in front of elevators. Had to wait one night before we could switch rooms. The following day had to put our stuff in storage until room was ready at 3:00. Day 2 water was not on which happened sporadically for a couple days. Day 3 my husbands wallet was lost (stolen) on the property. Day 4 safe in the room was broken and had to get repaired. Overall no service on the beach, pool or lobby. We invited a family to go on this trip with us and I am thoroughly embarrassed that they had to put up with all this too.

Non-Smoking Rule

When I go on vacation I am getting away from home rules. NOT being able to smoke was a slap in the face to me. This was my 3rd trip to the RIU and I was made to feel like a 3rd class guest, being made to go outside to smoke. Being able to smoke in the RIU was what I really liked about the hotel. I can assure you that I was not the only guest to feel this way. I am forced to smoke outside at home and I do not feel I should have to do it on vacation. The 24hr sports bar was empty as was the bar in the lobby. It was really sad because all of us smokers were forced outside with our drinks and to socialize. Very bad decision on RIU 's part.

The hotel itself is outdated and smells. There was something eating the wood in the dresser in our room (bugs). The balcony I'd classify as unsafe and the service was hit or miss. Food was decent and drinks were good. Beach was ok, but crowded with pushy vendors at times. Out of the 7 or 8 all-inclusive's we've stayed at, this was by far the worst.

Our Wedding & Vacation at Riu Paradise Island
PhilippeChevalier, Montreal, Canada

My wife and I had our wedding here with a group of 20 people and stayed for 7 days total with the entire group. We traveled with Sunwing who also arranged the travel from the airport to the resort upon arrival and departure. I can easily say the entirety of our group received impeccable treatment both from Sunwing on the flight over and by the staff at the resort. All of the staff(front desk, cleaners, bartenders/waiters, entertainment, etc.) were all very respectful and helpful. Our room was upgraded to an oceanview on the 10th floor as promised in the wedding package and was ready even before check-in. All of the rooms for the group were ready on time, were clean and newly renovated. Only one member had to ask to switch room due to not getting the oceanview they had paid for. That said, the switch was done without a hassle and in a timely manner. The entire resort was renovated the year before so everything was very clean and modern. We made sure to try every restaurant and they were all fantastic with great service. You cannot reserve for the different seating times, but if you arrived a few minutes early, there was normally enough room to get a table at the first seating. All the bars and bartenders were great, all drinks had plenty of alcohol if so desired and they had no problem serving you multiple drinks at a time (which seems to be a problem at most all inclusive resorts). The pools were clean and well kept and the addition of the infinity pool with bar was a nice touch. The best part of course was the beach, probably the nicest beach I have ever been too. It was incredibly clean, the entire beach was soft sand including in the water, no rocks or anything like that. Once in a while there would be some small fish swimming around the shallow parts and a bit further out some small stingrays which was cool to see. The fact that this is an adult only resort meant no screaming kids running around which was a plus if you just wanted to relax by the beach or the pool. We had visited the Atlantis to see some of the attractions, and after seeing the amount of people running around, kids screaming, garbage all over the beaches, we were very happy to be at the Riu. Finally, we had our wedding in the middle of the week. Our wedding coordinator, Crystal, was absolutely amazing, easily the best thing since sliced bread. We had spoken to her a few months before arriving and had another meeting with her a day after we got there. She bent over backwards to get us everything we wanted and even managed to get us discounts for certain parts of it. She was also very easy to get a hold of 24hrs a day. We had our wedding late afternoon followed by pictures which we took at the resort as well as at a nice place called the cloisters. We had our supper at the steakhouse where we had our own area and finally we had a reception with DJ and our own bar/bartender on a private exterior terrace. I can honestly say, the wedding and entire vacation was great and we have absolutely no complaints about this resort. We did leave the resort a few times, we rented 4 seater buggies to explore Nassau, a lot of great places to visit and if you split the costs, it is cheaper then taking taxis all day. We went into town to visit some of the small shops and as mentioned before, we did visit Atlantis to see the aquariums and water park. I highly recommend this Riu to anyone going to Bahamas, easily a 5 star for me!

Beware of Picky Reviewers!

We almost didn’t pick this place based on some of the poor reviews here but I am so glad we did (partly because we knew it was renovated from the last time we visited, so logically it had to be better than before)! and now I feel I must contribute my review. I have traveled to many places around the world and multiple times to Caribbean’s all inclusive resorts (also, this was my third time at the Riu in Bahamas). My most important factors for a great Caribbean vacation are: spacious clean beautiful beach with shade options, food variety with healthy options like fruits and salad, and a clean room /clean bathroom with no creepy crawlers. The Riu has all of this AND MUCH MORE! Beach - spectacular! chairs and sunbrellas available. The jet ski vendors nearby were sometimes annoying and dumb drivers often drove into the roped off swimming zone. Safety Tip: do not swim or snorkel near the edges of the swimming zone or the deep end. on the plus side i knew that the jet skis were probably scaring any larger fish away from shore and this thought made me feel safer even though there’s probably nothing to worry about! Beach also has beach volleyball set up which was a fun way to top the afternoon! Food - was AMAZING! The best in all of my past Caribbean travels! significantly improved since my last visit here. there was no part of the day when food was not available. I gained 2 or 3 pounds in one week because I couldn’t help myself. The Jerk Chicken station by the pool is sooooo delicious! I am craving it right now. All the buffet food was so good and fresh. Nobody is allowed to complain about the food. period. Drinks - i don’t drink much but there were many many options. Also, the cafe bar was awesome ! We drank a lot of cappuccinos and lattes! Rooms - very clean, newly renovated, no bugs or lizards. excellent! Restaurants - we tried the Steakhouse, the Indian and the Gourmet food restaurants. Agreed it is a bit annoying that they do first come first served as opposed to booking reservations in advance. But what’s the alternative? the buffet is already delicious so big deal if you are too bothered to wait in line for half an hour. you will not be hungry! As for the food quality at these restaurants - overall it was good! Nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary if you are used to dining in big city destinations known for high end cuisine. The hotel environment - much more improved since the renovation. so much more inviting than before. Staff - they were great! some people here complained about their lack of enthusiasm - but in my experience nobody was rude or unapproachable. remember some of these people are setting up umbrellas at the beach in the blistering heat - give them a break! I think the Riu manages the property well. there are staff walking around the pool area offering cold water every minute and picking up used cups to keep the place clean. If you decide to vacation at the Riu here are some tips: - use the chocolate fondue to line the inside of your cone with chocolate before adding ice cream scoops! mmmm - jerk chicken every day - tip the beach chairs/umbrella guy for working hard in the heat - don’t swim too deep or you might have an unpleasant encounter with a jet ski - order breakfast in bed at least once. this doesn’t happen for free anywhere else! - visit the Atlantis aquarium. after 6pm you can walk around their grounds for free! don’t buy the day pass. THANK YOU RIU FOR A WONDERFUL VACATION!!

My wife and I enjoyed our vacation stay at the Hotel Riu Palace in Paradise Island. Our room was nice, but what we liked most was the two swimming pools. One pool has a swim-up bar and also a lounger and parasol area with beverage service. We also had direct access to the reserved beach area and relaxed in hammocks under the warm sun. Another perk is it's right next to The Atlantis, where we checked out their casino and marine habitat. Both were great.

My first solo trip...beautiful resort everything you could ask for. Clear blue water white sand beaches, all inclusive all adults resort. Food, drinks and staff were great. Looking forward to my next trip already. Also right next to the Riu is The Atlantis they have a Casino.

Nice but would go later in March or April

It was very windy much of the week we were there in early March. That was because of storms along the east coast. We had a good time walking over to the Atlantis to the casino. We hung around the pool most of the time as we are not beach people. The swim up pool was pretty cold.you have to get up early to save a lounge chair.
