The best quality was the beach
ANNE L.
Nov 15 2018
I would give the RIU Bahamas a 6 out of 10. The resort was on the small side and the service wasn't very forthcoming. Maybe the culture isn't as friendly as in other countries? An example is when I called for room service and they didn't answer, I called the front desk. They said keep trying, that they couldn't do anything...not I'll check, or anything like that. Again it's a small resort. 1 building. Anyway, the food was more limited. I've been to the RIU in Cabo and there were more choices...especially for room service (they didn't offer eggs). Standing in line for dinner instead of taking reservations was a hassle. The rooms were cleaned so-so. I noticed, they didn't clean the showers. The beach location was awesome though. We walked over to Atlantis and their beach was not a fine and the water was choppier. Our room was nice. The bed was firm but not too much, but the pillows were small and not very good. The entertainment was also lackluster. The gym was small and could use more weights. We did not use any of the spa services because they were way over-priced. Like double the US. Lastly, no bar beach service.

Where to start! I never wanted to return home! The hotel staff at the front desk , bars, and restaurants were very friendly! I will definitely be booking another vacation to the Bahamas and to Riu palace ! The Thursday pool party is very fun and the activities included were a great way to meet more people and have fun too ! The bartenders were great and always quick! We were very pleased with the hotel and staff all together. It was a beautiful hotel and I love the options given for places to eat!

Very clean, friendly wait staff, poor dinner policy

We were impressed with the cleanliness; the housekeeping staff was excellent, most of the staff was friendly, excluding the front desk staff who were indifferent. The dinner reservation policy was deplorable. If you wanted to have a spot for dinner, you are required to line up an hour before opening for a chance to get one of maybe two seatings. There was no way to take your time, enjoy the vacation and eat when you wanted, and were forced to only go to the buffet, which was only fair in foos quality. Only four restaurants and one was closed one night. ???? Ridiculous. This is the only hotel in all my years of travelling that did not offer a customer desk to check in for flights and print boarding passes. Maybe the only hotel in the world. I was told that my only choice was to use my personal device, forward the e-mail, and then they might print boarding passes for me. My personal device is a company device which I amnot able to use out of country, so I was forced to be at the airport early for check in and boarding passes. Highly inconvenient. We will not return.

The hotel staff was very rude didn’t care if you were there or not the pool was very disappointing small no entertainment everything shut down at 7 o’clock it was just a very disappointing vacation to me it was like a holiday inn would not recommend Hotel ..I feel that everything was based around Atlanta if you wanted to do anything you had to go there... The food was the same thing for seven days nothing different sometimes when you went down for breakfast there wasn’t any thing left no matter what time you went there it was overall just disappointing .... all the staff mentor They act like you were a bother to just get ice from them everyone was in a rush customer service just was not there ... i’ve stayed at the RIU every vacation this by far was the worst the best one that I’ve ever stayed at was in Costa Rica ....

RIU Palace Paradise Island was very clean. The staff was beyond friendly and extremely willing to accommodate our needs. The food was delicious, and the drinks were great. The pools were really nice, and the beach was beyond beautiful. The location was very convenient because it was right next to Atlantis, giving us easy access to the Casino and Marina village. Additionally, RIU is a short cab ride from downtown and the straw market. Cabs are located right in front of the hotel, always there for your convenience. Next time we visit the Bahamas, we will definitely stay at RIU.

Riu palace is great on paper, but fall short during your stay.

Most of the staff make it feel like an inconvenience to serve you, they have no consideration for time and often will take a plate without asking if you are finished. We had a issue with our room at check in and instead of an apology, they rushed us to decide on the new room. There was a sewage break right out side the front doors that just sat untouched for our entire stay and the smell was in the lobby the emit week, they did not even block off the areas to keeps guests from passing through there. We did enjoy the location and had fun on several excursions, but would not recommend this hotel to others.

Good, but not great. Expected better.

Our room was the family suite which I thought would be one big suite but instead it was a smaller suite with and adjoining room as the 2nd bedroom. The suite had the pretty black/white/purple decor as in the photograph on the website but the adjoining room was not and was more standard burgandy hotel decor. There was a strong smell of must/mold in the lobby area and the smell of the cleaning products used in the room was a very stong pine sol type scent. There was an ocean view from our room and it was beautiful but we were also over the giant air conditioning unit so we never had any quiet time to be able to hear the crashing of the waves. The bathroom sink had the faucet opposite of what it was marked. The cold side was hot and the hot side was cold. The light switch was broken but was useable. We ended up having dinner at the buffet all but once because there are no reservations allowed at the fine dining restaurants and we were unwilling to stand in line for an hour prior to the opening time hoping we would get a spot. Alcohol was not top shelf and there were no top shelf options available. What they did serve VERY watered down. So much so that in the 5 days we were there, I drank all day and never once even felt tipsy. Entertainment was sparse but we were there more for relaxation so that wasn't a deal breaker. Service was good but the service staff attitudes/friendliness was hit or miss. Outside bartenders were not at all friendly but the sports bar staff was much better. The best/friendless service was provided by the front desk/check-in team, room attendants, dinner service in the buffet area, the entertainers in the evening in the sports bar, and the bellmen. This hotel is literally right next to Atlantis so we walked over there once evening and I will say that the Atlantis was chaos comparatively speaking. Huge, loud and lots of kids/families roaming. I definitely preferred the vibe of Riu to Atlantis. The ocean water was perfection but the sand was littered with cocktail straws and cigarette butts. I never saw it scraped for small trash once but there was never any actual trash like cups laying around. Overall I personally was disappointed with this hotel and will try a different one next time. I thought I was paying for the top of the line at this hotel but it didn't feel exceptional. Another guest did tell me that Riu was once of the better hotels in the Bahamas but said Sandals was superior so I will look into that one. Overall I would say this hotel is average from what I expected.

this hotel was nothing like we had thought it would be. It smelled like sewage when we first walked in. The bar was not clean & service was poor. The rooms are nothing like the pictures on line. The pool closes at 6, I thought this was a resort in the islands?? No entertainment at this resort. The only restaurant we could eat at was the buffet, we were turned away from the Steakhouse, they told us they had already hit their limit for the day?? Really?? The coffee shop doesn't open till 10. The 2nd day we were there, found a baby tadpole swimming in our toilet. Maybe this can explain the sewage smell in the lobby?? I have booked several vacations with Don Branam & Apple Vacations, pleased with the agent, and will continue to book with Don. I just will not go back to this resort or recommend it. We were very disappointed in this one.

Once again another great vacation on a RIU property. The beach at the RIU on Paradise Island is spectacular. The water was clear as glass. Sand was soft with no rocks or even sea shells. Not sure what the hotel was like before the remodel. But I can say the hotel looks very nice now. Hotel staff were always seen cleaning and keeping the property looking neat and clean. We enjoyed the food at the buffets and thought it was good. Drinks were name brand liquor and never had an issue waiting for one. My honest opinion is the RIU Paradise Island was just that..Paradise.

The Rui was a really nice resort. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were very nice! The only complaint I have is regarding the restaurants. They give you a comment about first come first serve. Lines are ridiculous and they don’t take reservations! They really need to state better about how to line up to eat at the specific restaurants. They honestly should consider reservations when you checkin like many other resorts!

nice, but....

This was our second trip to Riu Palace in the Bahamas. We had a good time hanging around the new pools, but if you want to get a chair, you have to go down around 6:00 in the morning and put a towel on the chair that you want to save, if you wait till 7:30, all the chairs will have been taken. The first time we went was in 03/17 and it was not an adults only resort, this year they made it an adults only resort and it was nice not having little kids throwing balls around in the pool as your trying to relax, don't get me wrong, we have 7 grand kids, when we go on vacation though, we like to relax. The resort closed for three months last year and underwent a major renovation. They really did a nice job on the place with one exception. They use to have a lobby bar that was such a nice place to spend time and meet people. For some reason they eliminated the lobby bar and now the only bar you can get a drink in after 6:00 pm is the sports bar. As you would assume, and you would be right, this bar gets very crowded and loud. For that reason alone, we will be trying a different place next year

We stayed at the Royal Towers at Atlantis for our 10 yr anniversary but the room there didn't hold a candle to our ocean front jr suite at the RIU. And I love kids but it was SO nice to relax in both wonderful pools without screaming and splashing. All sorts of games and fun by the pool. The staff will set up some beach chairs for you, if you'd rsther; but, we had more fun at the pools. Walked to Atlantis Marina in about 10 minutes, Atlantis Beach Tower to get to Casino only about 3 minutes. The food and drinks were excellent at The RIU so since it was all-inclusive we could actually afford souvenirs to bring home this time!

Enjoyable stay

After reading some negative reviews I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel staff were friendly and for an all inclusive the food was great. The hotel as a whole was nice and the beach was beautiful. In the day the music is loud so if you don’t like that vibe then I suggest you don’t stay here. As a whole it was a lovely.

Nice but not a Riu Palace

What makes this property lovely is its smaller size, the beach and the food. The food in the buffet is delicious as it the lunch BBQ outside. There was never an issue getting spots at the beach or the pool. The Staff were amazing. However, it was an hour wait checking in, so that was disappointing. Mind you, there was a group checking in but this is a Palace after all so I had the expectations of them being a little better at things then just another resort. Lining up an hour before the specialty restaurants open is ludicrous and something I had no intention of doing. Again, this is a Palace so why is this still an issue for this property?! They only do two seatings instead of continuous seating so if you want eat at one, be prepared to spend an hour or more of your vacation in a line. The entertainment staff is awesome and the after dinner shows are good. The Sports Bar is the only place to get a drink after dinner People have mentioned that it is extremely loud in there....they are not joking. Deafening... They really need to create another spot for drinks after dinner other then sitting in the lobby or sitting with the smokers in the front of the hotel. There isn't any bar service on the beach and the restrooms are a bit of a walk up by the pool. If you are going for nothing but R&R, then this is the spot for you. If you have stayed at a Riu Palace before you will probably be disappointed.

Okay vacation..

We went as a group of two couples last minute to Riu palace paradise island. It was good to get away but wouldn’t come back. The resort was modern but not a palace. Looked more like a holiday inn hotel in Florida. Rooms are clean. Hotel is modern. They have a nice pool and beach is beautiful but way too windy to enjoy. Not enough chairs near the pool for guests but lots of chairs at beach. The buffet was decent. Not as good as other resorts. They have good drinks and the cappuccino bar is nice. Check in took way too long

Riu Palace not much of a Palace

I traveled here Nov 11-18th as a group of 40 Women. Check in took over an hour, not a great start. We were all suppose to be on the same floor, that did not happen. Rooms were ok, nothing special, but the new showers were amazing. We only ate at one of the Specialty Restaurants as they DO NOT take Reservations and none of us were willing to get in a line at 5:30 pm to try and get a table for 6:30. This system alone would prevent me from ever returning. The pools are very nice. One of the pools was always heated. The one negative part of the pool area, is that each pool plays different music and it is very loud, I think if they are going to have a DJ at one pool the other pool should just shut off there music, considering they are right next to each other. The Guys that worked the pool bar, Chevy and Tony were absolutely Amazing!!! The Sports Bar/ Show area is extremely Loud! The Beach is ok, The height of the Hotel blocks the sun out from the Beach for about an hour every Morning. Even though this resort is Adult Only, you hear kids all day as the public beach borders the Hotel where all the people from the Cruise Ships come for the day. Atlantis is right next door which was nice as we went to the Aquarium, Casino and Comedy show for something to do at night as the Hotel is pretty boring. It was an ok Hotel for a Girls trip but I would never return for a Couples Trip.
