Riu palace is great on paper, but fall short during your stay.

Most of the staff make it feel like an inconvenience to serve you, they have no consideration for time and often will take a plate without asking if you are finished. We had a issue with our room at check in and instead of an apology, they rushed us to decide on the new room. There was a sewage break right out side the front doors that just sat untouched for our entire stay and the smell was in the lobby the emit week, they did not even block off the areas to keeps guests from passing through there. We did enjoy the location and had fun on several excursions, but would not recommend this hotel to others.

Our room was the family suite which I thought would be one big suite but instead it was a smaller suite with and adjoining room as the 2nd bedroom. The suite had the pretty black/white/purple decor as in the photograph on the website but the adjoining room was not and was more standard burgandy hotel decor. There was a strong smell of must/mold in the lobby area and the smell of the cleaning products used in the room was a very stong pine sol type scent. There was an ocean view from our room and it was beautiful but we were also over the giant air conditioning unit so we never had any quiet time to be able to hear the crashing of the waves. The bathroom sink had the faucet opposite of what it was marked. The cold side was hot and the hot side was cold. The light switch was broken but was useable. We ended up having dinner at the buffet all but once because there are no reservations allowed at the fine dining restaurants and we were unwilling to stand in line for an hour prior to the opening time hoping we would get a spot. Alcohol was not top shelf and there were no top shelf options available. What they did serve VERY watered down. So much so that in the 5 days we were there, I drank all day and never once even felt tipsy. Entertainment was sparse but we were there more for relaxation so that wasn't a deal breaker. Service was good but the service staff attitudes/friendliness was hit or miss. Outside bartenders were not at all friendly but the sports bar staff was much better. The best/friendless service was provided by the front desk/check-in team, room attendants, dinner service in the buffet area, the entertainers in the evening in the sports bar, and the bellmen. This hotel is literally right next to Atlantis so we walked over there once evening and I will say that the Atlantis was chaos comparatively speaking. Huge, loud and lots of kids/families roaming. I definitely preferred the vibe of Riu to Atlantis. The ocean water was perfection but the sand was littered with cocktail straws and cigarette butts. I never saw it scraped for small trash once but there was never any actual trash like cups laying around. Overall I personally was disappointed with this hotel and will try a different one next time. I thought I was paying for the top of the line at this hotel but it didn't feel exceptional. Another guest did tell me that Riu was once of the better hotels in the Bahamas but said Sandals was superior so I will look into that one. Overall I would say this hotel is average from what I expected.

this hotel was nothing like we had thought it would be. It smelled like sewage when we first walked in. The bar was not clean & service was poor. The rooms are nothing like the pictures on line. The pool closes at 6, I thought this was a resort in the islands?? No entertainment at this resort. The only restaurant we could eat at was the buffet, we were turned away from the Steakhouse, they told us they had already hit their limit for the day?? Really?? The coffee shop doesn't open till 10. The 2nd day we were there, found a baby tadpole swimming in our toilet. Maybe this can explain the sewage smell in the lobby?? I have booked several vacations with Don Branam & Apple Vacations, pleased with the agent, and will continue to book with Don. I just will not go back to this resort or recommend it. We were very disappointed in this one.

Once again another great vacation on a RIU property. The beach at the RIU on Paradise Island is spectacular. The water was clear as glass. Sand was soft with no rocks or even sea shells. Not sure what the hotel was like before the remodel. But I can say the hotel looks very nice now. Hotel staff were always seen cleaning and keeping the property looking neat and clean. We enjoyed the food at the buffets and thought it was good. Drinks were name brand liquor and never had an issue waiting for one. My honest opinion is the RIU Paradise Island was just that..Paradise.

The Rui was a really nice resort. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were very nice! The only complaint I have is regarding the restaurants. They give you a comment about first come first serve. Lines are ridiculous and they dont take reservations! They really need to state better about how to line up to eat at the specific restaurants. They honestly should consider reservations when you checkin like many other resorts!

This was our second trip to Riu Palace in the Bahamas. We had a good time hanging around the new pools, but if you want to get a chair, you have to go down around 6:00 in the morning and put a towel on the chair that you want to save, if you wait till 7:30, all the chairs will have been taken. The first time we went was in 03/17 and it was not an adults only resort, this year they made it an adults only resort and it was nice not having little kids throwing balls around in the pool as your trying to relax, don't get me wrong, we have 7 grand kids, when we go on vacation though, we like to relax. The resort closed for three months last year and underwent a major renovation. They really did a nice job on the place with one exception. They use to have a lobby bar that was such a nice place to spend time and meet people. For some reason they eliminated the lobby bar and now the only bar you can get a drink in after 6:00 pm is the sports bar. As you would assume, and you would be right, this bar gets very crowded and loud. For that reason alone, we will be trying a different place next year

Just returned from 4 night stay at the RIU and we had a wonderful trip! After reading some of the reviews I was a bit worried but found the hotel to be way above what I expected. I would suggest they have a better system for reservations in the A La carte dining rooms so people know where and when they are eating, and maybe heat the pool bar. Some reviews said the drinks were watered down but that was not an issue at all. And they had real coffee!! Made with an espresso machine ! Other then that we felt that the staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms was clean ~we had a fabulous view of the ocean and Atlantis from our 11th floor balcony. I am sure some people would not like that you see into the back side of Atlantis but that did not bother me. We loved that we could easily cut through Atlantis at night to go to the marina village or the casino. We also walked to the ferry from the hotel within about 10-15 mins and spent about 2 hours in Nassau which is all you need. The ferry was $8 round trip and the "guide" had lots of interesting facts as you rode along. I would definitely return to the RIU.

Overall, we were very happy with the friendly hotel staff. The only negative was the room housekeeping of our room. We were happy with the response of the management when we had an issue with an unruly guest.

After reviewing some of the comments on this resort we were very surprised at how nice the resort is. The beach is beautiful with great service for chairs, but could use bar service on beach. They set up a bar in the lobby so why not set one on the beach. The only other complaint is how you can't sign up to reserve a spot in the specialty restaurants, they need to do like other Riu and sign up a few days ahead or in the morning. We attempted to get into the Steak house 2 times and could not get in. The resort was spotless, the rooms remodeled and very nice. We had a housekeeper named Tamara and she was amazing! So nice and friendly and helping me with anything I wanted. This is a very contained resort, meaning it is not like a Secrets or Breathless that is a sprawling resort, it is one building and everything is close, but that makes It nice. I would recommend this resort and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the beach and water was in the Bahamas. It was as nice as most of the other places we have been.

This was our second time at this resort. They do a wonderful job with food!!!! I am excited to see the remodel. We booked a trip to exuma from the rep at the hotel. We had a wonderful day. However when we booked the trip we told the sales girl that my daughter had pain issues and she never said a thing about the speed boat slapping the water for 1 hour on the way out to exzuma. If she was good at her job she would have incouraged us to fly instead!!!! That was a little disappointing that she did not care about her clients!!! My daughter and myself were in pain the next few days after that trip!!!! And that could have been avoided!!! The trip it self was great after we got past the open water and the gentelman were wonderful. But she should know what she is selling!!! Also there is no ladders to get into the boat!!! Also something the sales person should know when she is putting a older person on a boat with no ladder. And a woman with pain issues. The actual hotel stay was fantastic!!!!!!!

Where to start, First off, I was reading reviews about this hotel before we came and saw some good, some okay but a lot of negative. I am not sure what people can be negative about but it is all about what you expect and literally how nice you are to others. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly staff and checked in promptly. Lets start with Resturants: Buffett was amazing. Fresh food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was plenty of options, 5 or 6 stations. There was always good food to eat at every meal. The A la cart restaurants is a tricky situation. It is a first come first serve process and you must line up in order to eat. THEY DO NOT TAKE RESERVATIONS. I heard people complain about this, but if you are cognoscente of it you can eat in one every night. We stayed for 11 nights, and ate at a restaurant 8 of those nights. The other nights we did not eat there we did not want to. Steak house, always has the biggest lines. for 630 seating, get there by 6 and you will get a seat. Food is fantastic! Japanese, I heard people complain about it, but it was amazing. Great apps, and the entrees were amazing. Probably our favorite restaurant. Smaller lines and you can go much closer to 630. Indian, never had a line, but was great. The only restaurant where they did not give you options and brought you everything to eat. No lines, you can go at any time. Krystal, MEN MUST WEAR PANTS. Again, heard people complain about that but do your homework and there is no issues. Food again, was amazing. Wait staff here was not my favorite, but they made do. Colypso bar that is 24 hours has hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos and salad. Good when needed but our last resort. The Jerk Chick Shack, only open at lunch and absolutely amazing. They have spicy and mild options. Very good. Room service is 24/7 and normally takes 45 minutes. Very good. The coffee shop also had small sandwiches and desserts. Never busy and great for a quick snack. Pool, were always clean and always had activities. Water was warm and it was great to lounge in. The built in chairs look comfy, spoiler alert, they are not great. The beach was amazing. Clean, and beautiful water. Bring googles and go check out the fish near the end of the sandy portion. Well worth it. There was always enough chairs and umbrellas for everyone. You simply walk down and ask the worker for the number of chairs and an umbrella and within minutes he has them set up and ready. They do not expect to be tipped either, but we tipped at the end of the week. These guys work so hard! D'angelo was amazing to speak to and just wants to help. On the beach, there are people trying to sell everything and anything. For the people selling souvineers, they are 75 percent cheaper at the straw market. The men selling Jet Ski rides love to steal each others business and fight all the time. We went out with McDonald and he treated us amazing all week. Helped us get chairs, got people away from us etc. Cost is $140 per hour, negotiated to under $100. Nothing is full price in Bahamas. Room was very clean and as advertised. Did not really spend much time in here other than changing and sleeping. Always cleaned every day, sheets changed, fridge stocked. Proximity to Atlantis was huge. The whole resort was massive and amazing. Must see the aquarium. IT IS FREE AFTER 6PM, DO NOT PAY. We did the water park as well. While it was expensive, something you need to do if it is in the budget. We used Majestic tours which is located inside the hotel. A little more expensive but you know who you are going with and they are reputable. Staff, where the start. Had a minor issue with our shower, it was fixed within hours. There was not a staff member who was rude or was not a pleasure to deal with. No one was expecting tips or anything extra. Just wanted to be great. Jackie in the buffet. She is a server. SIT IN HER SECTION. She makes you feel at home and treats everyone amazing. Always a positive attitude and just a joy to be around. The entertainment staff was great and really made our trip worth it. A few more than others. First, Fly - a ton of energy, down to earth and awesome to be around. A lot of help when we needed things as well. L.G. - Does all of the water activities and very inclusive. Will pull you up to participate and it is a ton of fun. Smiley - Might be the most genuine person we met on the entire trip. She is more than someone who works for the hotel. She goes out of her way to make your trip extraordinary. If you go and do not get to know her, you are doing yourself a disservice. Overall an amazing experience and a place where we will return!

My Husband and I stayed at Riu Paradise Island last week (8/5-8/11). I would like to give some pros and cons. The pros are that the hotel is newly renovated, it is a smaller property- so very easy to get around, the front desk staff was friendly upon check in, it is right next door to Atlantis which provides a casino, shopping, aquarium, etc. and the food/drinks were pretty good. We enjoyed the buffet, the Japanese restaurant, and Krystal. There is also a cute coffee/snack area in the lobby that we enjoyed daily. The cons are that there is no reservation system for dinner so you have to line up for 6:30 to eat/get a pager. I also had an issue with ants in my hotel room one night (ants on the floor, walls, bed, etc). The front desk sent a house keeping person who said he would contact front desk to see what they could do for us once he confirmed they were ants. All the front desk said was that they were full and if we wanted to move rooms they could assist us in the morning once people started checking out. Luckily the problem ended up resolving itself or else I would have been stuck with the problem for several hours. Overall, the hotel is pretty decent and has beautiful ocean views.

This was my second time at this Hotel. The Decor was much nicer then the first time I was there 2 years ago. I wont go back unless they make some changes. First there is a Really bad Sewer smell in and outside the Hotel. The AC was a problem for most of the People I went with, for me it was OK. If you like a lot of AC it will be uncomfortable for You. The Specialty Restaurants were very disappointing. The first Time we went we made Reservations and that was it. Now you have to wait on line at 6pm. and when the doors of the Restaurant Open its first come first Serve. They Do Not tell you this when you check in. I liked it better when you had to make a reservation and you were guaranteed that you would get in. The Portions of food are Very Small. A lot of people went to the buffet after eating at one of the Restaurants. Speaking of Buffet, Breakfast and Lunch are Good and for the most part the food at the Buffet is good. But it was the same food every night for Dinner. They really need to change it up with different selections for Dinner. The Staff and Workers are Great. Very Friendly and Accommodating. They went out of there way to get you whatever You needed. There is also No Entertainment. The Good thing is that its a short walk To the Atlantis.

Beautiful

I gave this hotel 5 stars because your vacation is what you make of it. The hotel is clean and the employees know you are on vacation and try their very best to accommodate you. There is a slight smell when you enter the lobby, but after two minutes you don't even notice it. The beach is clean and well taken care of. There are vendors that pass through out the day but I can honestly say that once I said no thank you  they responded with have a wonderful vacation mam. We had no problem. The food was very good at the buffet. They have something for everyone. I am a little bit of a pain in a$$ when it comes to eating at all inclusive and I can tell you I had zero problem eating here from fish to meats to vegetarian meals they really had it all. The drinks were well made and the bartenders were pleasant. My husband tipped the man on the beach in the mornings and he would set up our chairs and umbrella's . Its fair to say if anyone asked him to do the same without a tip he did it with a smile. My husband said the tip makes him smile a little wider. The Atlantis is right next door for a little night life. The casino was fun and I loved the aquarium . The specialty restaurants were also good and you do have to get online for them. It was not that bad waiting online we got to meet people from all over and the 30 minutes flew by. The dress code is to be covered up no bathing suites in any restaurant. Only the one Krystal needed men to be in slacks.House keeping was amazing they clean well. The staff always had your room filled and brought you extra coffee etc. Be aware if you smoke and don't bring your own cigarettes are 15$ a pack...Smoking was not aloud in rooms but was a balcony. I smoke and bring zip lock bags with me every morning I empty the ash tray from the balcony into zip lock and put it in the garbage. We took a cab into town to do a little shopping cab was 17 dollars and a 3 dollar tip. Town was very crowded as the cruise ships dock there. In town there were a little pushy to sell you something. Every thing here was beautiful...I would definitely return If there were anything lacking here it was the pillows were really small and there are no clocks in the room. That is no enough to put a damper on my vacation.

Pleasant stay at Riu Palace Paradise Island

My stay at Riu Palace Paradise Island was pleasant. The reception area staff greeted me with a smile and was a pleasure to deal with. My room was ready, clean, and had a great partial view of the ocean. The ladies that took care of my room were excellent. If I can make a suggestion about the room service is that the floors of the rooms be wiped whenever they are cleaned as the flooring seem to trap sediments easily. I noticed however that most buffet staff seemed to need motivation. They were mannerly, few smiled, or had a warm countenance on their face, but they worked hard to accommodate guest. They need incentive or motivation, some disconnect is evident. Bar staff were great as they laughed, played around and engaged guest. The beach area was great, but too much hustlers on site. There will be an accident soon in regards to the beach craft area, as these guys are reckless with the speed in which they leave and return to the beach area. Very reckless. Overall, a pleasant stay and I will return with friends.
