NO OCEAN VIEW (which we paid for)
DIANE D.
Mar 21 2019
The hotel was very nice! Where my problem comes in is we paid extra for a Jr suite with an ocean view. I get it that the trees will grow...BUT the rooms that they obscure the view, DON'T CHARGE EXTRA!!! I feel we should be refunded the extra we paid.

We had stayed at Riu Palace Pacifico about 5-years and thought it was a good location to try two weeks. We book an Ocean view Junior suite for the added space a two week trip might justify. Our initial room was not a Ocean view and we brought this back to the front desk before we unpacked. We had to spend the first night there and were moved the next day. We had to checkout by 11 and did not receive our new room until after 3. Our new room 4039 had the promised view. The patio had only 1 chair which I called the front desk about and they said that there were none available. One appeared on about our 10th day. There was a floor lamp next to the loveseat, except the outlet was not there, the wiring was there, just no outlet, open wires. The wall lamp opposite had a burned out bulb, also repaired about 10 days in. Overall the food and dining options were good. The beach was nice for that part of the bay. The staff was professional and were very nice. It seems that the Palace is showing the signs of its age and use and overall is poorer condition than 5 years ago, but still ok. I would say it is slightly over priced for everything we experienced.

Overall the Riu Palace was great. Room was on 1st floor so it had a slightly musty smell but the convenience of using the stairs over the 2 elevators that were available. There were not enough pillows on the bed and the ones provided were small and hard. We did receive more pillows on request. Pool showed wear & tear but was nice and never seemed crowded. Food in buffet restaurant was very good and there were many choices at all 3 meals. Service at the buffet was excellent. The only comment I have is that the wine in the restaurants and bars was not consistent. There was a red wine that we liked but it was not available everywhere. The whiskey selection was sub par but it is an all inclusive place. I would like to see an option to upgrade the wine & liquor selection. Thank you

The hotel did not have rest rooms in the lobby. There was only one rest room for all the restaurants and the pool area and lobby. They were not close by and need stairs or a ramp to access.

Outstanding job by Apple Vacations. Everything was very smooth. No issues at all. The Apple rep at the resort was also very friendly. We were met at the airport, and had a private transport to the resort. Apple did a fantastic job of making this trip the best ever.

We had a great stay at Riu Palace Pacifico. Even despite Hurricane Willa, the staff made sure we felt safe and we had fun! The entertainment staff, particularly Fernando, was very present and also had activities all the time. We enjoyed the shows every night (and we usually don't go to the shows at resorts). The food at Krystal was VERY good, we could not believe that we were eating at an all inclusive, we would have been happy with that food anywhere. The food at Kyoto was great as well, and the service in all the restaurants was excellent. The food at the buffets were a little iffy (not surprising and not the worst but definitely if you have a sensitive stomachs proceed with caution). The pool bar service was excellent, and the cocktail service at the beach and by the pool was AMAZING, refilling my drinks before I even was finished with my last one. The beach is very nice, very swimmable, no big rocks or anything. Apple did not notify the hotel it was our honeymoon so we didn't get an upgrade, but once the hotel found out they sent a bottle of champagne and strawberries which was very nice. I would recommend this hotel.

Riu Palace Pacifico - The Good & The Bad
LUKE R.
Aug 10 2018
Our visit at the Riu had both really positive experiences combined with some frustrations. The cleanliness of the hotel, quality of the room, and most of the staff were very good. We especially appreciated the beach-side bar service of Luis and Irving at the front desk. However, the food program gives this hotel a big downgrade for us. Only a single restaurant is open for breakfast and the waits to get in were often 20 minutes. Once in, it's buffet mostly with a fresh omlet line if you want one. The food availability around the pool and beach is non-existant. You have to go back to the buffet for food. Our family aren't big buffet fans, there wasn't much for freshly prepared food until dinner. The service and quality of the food at dinner were very poor with the exception of the Japanese and Fusion restaurants. Our biggest frustration was how they managed seating. No reservations, so if you didn't time it right you'd have a 90 minute wait to be seated. Additionally, the portions were pretty small and they would only let you order 1 entrees. No surf and turf at this resort, it's surf or turf. We ended up splitting our meals up to try multiple things. The cleanliness of our room was excellent, the rooms were in great condition. The mattress was pretty worn out, but overall, the room exceeded our expectations. The bar service at the beach was excellent, Luis figured out our family's preferences after the first down and took awesome care of us the entire week. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. We had a couple of small issues we needed help on and Irving was very helpful and responsive. If the food program was better, it would dynamically change how I would rate this resort and my willingness to return. Still, I feel the value of the package through Apple was excellent

Nice place close to beach

The hotel is nice and clean. This is the higher end of the RIU on the Nuevo Vallarta beach. It normally caters to older couples but we found a large number of families on our visit. Larger rooms and decent beds. The buffet is very good as well as the restaurants adjacent to the buffet. The Mexican restaurant is a must and have a Spanish coffee (see pictures). Beach is very nice and great bar service at beach. The nightly entertainment area is very dated compared to the Jalisco. Overall a good stay.

A small corner in paradise.

Just returned from a two week stay at this wonderful hotel . We arrived after a 12 hr flight very tired but the first views of the hotel all lit up at night were simply amazing. Check in was very straight forward and we soon found our room on the 8th floor. We had requested a high one and were not disappointed. Rooms are spotlessly clean and a good size. Showers are in the bath and a little difficult to get out of as the floor can get slippy when wet but handrails are provided. The food was brilliant, loads of choice in the main restaurant and 4 other a la carte ones besides. Special thanks to Sergio, our waiter who looked after us in the main restaurant most of the time. There is a pool waiter service here and special thanks to Maribel who worked tirelessly serving around the pool. You could not meet a more friendly and helpful group ever. Is there a downside you ask, just one, although there are loads of sunbeds should you want ine close to the pool be prepared for a dash at dawn, though this didnt spoil our holiday as I'm a early rier anyway. All in all a fabulous hotel in a beautiful place with friendly people.

My husband and I stayed at Riu Palace Pacifico from 2/3-16/3, we had a great time. Flight from UK was long but trying to get through immigration at the airport seemed to take longer! It took us 2 hours to collect our cases and get through immigration, it was awful! However, it was worth it. The transfer, by taxi was quick, check in was also quick, no problems, we were given all the necessary information in an efficient manner. Our partial sea view room was fantastic. The room was large and clean but the view we had was stunning. We were on the 7th floor and looking to the left on our balcony we could see the pool area and right out to sea, just beautiful. The pool area was nice, clean with lots of sunbeds, however, these beds are reserved from early morning. One person told us they went down at 4.30am to reserve their spot! This is something the hotel should deal with, it is ridiculous that this is allowed. My husband and I would have breakfast and walk round the pool at about 9am, no beds available but very few people on the beds! We were not getting up and silly times to put towels down, we went to the beach everyday and had no problem getting a bed and pulling it to the shore. The beach is lovely and suited us fine. The bar staff are amazing on the beach, continually asking if we needed a drink and getting it for us. They work so hard, as do all the staff. Each and everyone were pleasant and polite. The buffet restaurant is very good, probably the best evening buffet we have had. We do not normally like the evening buffets and prefer to be served at a la carte restaurants, but we used it several times. The a la cartes are also good. The steakhouse was nice, but our favourite was the Krystal, we really enjoyed it. Our least favourite was the Japanese. The food in the Mexican was good but the service was not so good. We went twice, hoping the first time we had just been unlucky but unfortunately, it wasn’t much better the second time. This really is a great hotel, excellent staff, good food and drinks, beautiful beach that you can walk along but the highlight for us was whale watching! We were lucky enough to be there just at the end of the season and could lie on the beach and watch the whales before they moved out of the bay. We also did the whale watching trip with Vallarta Adventures-it was amazing! A once in a lifetime experience, we absolutely loved it. If I was going back to this hotel again, I would definitely try to go about the same time of year just to see the whales. We also saw stingray, mantaray and dolphins, all fantastic. Great hotel, room, beach, staff, food, drink….and whales….just perfect!

Good and Bad

I want to lead by saying that overall we had a great stay. I'll lead with the good, then share what frustrated us. The property is really well maintained and very nice, and all the staff who helped us were very friendly. All the common areas and the room were very clean and well maintained, the beach is great, and the pool is really nice! Our frustrations: - The "restaurants" no longer take reservations. The steakhouse, asian food, and tapas restaurant all post hours, but if you're not there right when they open (or within a few minutes) you probably won't get seated. Nobody explained this to us, so we figured it out the hard way in our first couple days. The buffet and Mexican place are very good, but we believed we'd have more options than we really did. - The resort web site says that people can't reserve pool spots with their towels, but that's not accurate. If you want a prime pool spot, you need to do like everyone else; have one person in your party get up by 6 am or so to run out there and put your towels and some junk on beach chairs. We'd look out our balcony at 7 or 7:30 am and see all these chairs reserved, but most of the people wouldn't get out there until 10-11 am. Really annoying. - Room service is inconsistent at best. We paid to upgrade to an ocean view suite because one of my favorite things to do is get up early, sip some coffee, and read a book while watching the waves hit the beach. Each morning, I'd call room service and ask for a fruit plate and pot of coffee. A couple mornings it was right there, one morning it arrived 90 minutes later as we were leaving for breakfast, and one morning they just seem to have forgotten. I expect better. None of these things ruined our vacation, but I expect better. Based on our experience, I probably wouldn't return to the Riu Palace.

Don't come if you have a small child.

The place is beautiful. The food and service is great. The bad part is if you have a small child the staff will continually wake them up when they are sleeping. We are on our fourth day at the resort and they woke my 2 year old four times already. The first night while trying to get him to fall asleep for bed the front desk called to see if we needed anything. Great! Except they woke him up. Then he almost fell asleep 15 minutes later. Oh! What's that? The front desk calling to see if we need anything. Woke him up again. The next day while he is having his afternoon nap, the phone rings. Whoever could that be? Oh the front desk again. Thanks again for waking up my son. So I go down to the front desk and tell them to please not call my room anymore. If we need something we will get it. That should do it right? The next night luckily before we started to get him to bed the phone starts ringing. Who is it this time? The front desk! So I told them to please stop calling my room. Finally it may have sunk in because they haven't called me in 2 days, although I wouldn't be surprised if they call again. So now today about 20 minutes ago while my son is sleeping and really needs it because of being overtired from being woken up so much in the last few days. I put the do not disturb sign on the door, fingers crossed the front desk doesn't call, guess what happens this time? Some random maintenance guys comes barging into our room looks around says sorry and slams the door waking up my son yet again. Kid starts screaming scared from the guy slamming the door. Thanks a lot random maintenance guy! I go out to the hallway and point out that we had the do not disturb sign on the door. He just says sorry. It really didn't seem to bother him all that much. I go down to front desk again and start telling the man working there how displeased I was and that a blue outfitted maintenance guy barged into our room while we had the DND sign on the door. He thought I wanted a DND sign to put on the door so I explain it yet again. He says sorry and said he will put a note in our file or whatever that there is a child in the room and that maintenance shouldn't come in anymore. My big complaint is why even have do not disturb tags for the doors? They have no meaning anyways. Just come on in! Makes you wonder how many times they come in when you aren't in your room. Anyways, time for supper with a really overtired toddler. I'm sure tonight they will call to see if we need anything and send a maintenance guy to come in and slam stuff around our room. So anyways, long story short, beautiful place, good food, if you have a kid that sleeps he will probably get woken up by the staff over and over again, and possibly have someone run into your room and rummage through your stuff or who knows what. The calling to see if we need something is annoying but not that big of a deal. The barging in while we have the DND sign hanging from the knob is unacceptable. The concierge is not in right now so I'll be talking to them tomorrow.
