Beverage Service

I would like to point out two things about the beverage service at this property. In our Jr. Suite, we had four choices of liquor to enjoy. Rum, Vodka, Brandy and Tequila. If one should not drink any of these, you would need to go to one of the lounges to get what you want. I asked if I could get a bourbon and the staff said that what we had is hotel policy. Secondly, we found out that if you were running low on in room liquor, you could not get a refill until you were totally empty. In an all exclusive, you should be able to request what you drink, not what is offered.

I love this resort! The grounds are beautiful, the staff amazing and it is always a good time. However, I would respectfully request that they put an outdoor smoking area near the restaurants that has tables and chairs. This would be far better than 10 people crowding around one ashtray.

So many issues! First there is no children pool the site is plain wrong. There are many children in every pool including the pool bar. We asked and the front desk said no all pools are the same and you are lucky you aren't at the resort next door there's even more children there! Biggest problem at the hotel is people go down at 5am and take all the good pool chairs. When we asked what time you could start doing that the front desk replied you aren't supposed to do that. But everyone is and most reserve 10-12 chairs. The hotel looks clean until you look closely at that point it is barely average. The entertainment of which there is one thing going on per night is very poor. There's no alternative though so you basically are stuck there or in your room as everything else is closed by then.

I was a little disappointed my wife broke her leg there in the room and no one gave us to much help. Apple people helped with getting wheel chairs at the airport but that was all they offered. we had to rent a wheel chair on our own and the people were great helping me get around.

My issue was that Apple told me this was an Adult Only facility and it was NOT. I was very dissappointed and my reconsider using Apple again due to that. I would expect some sort of a credit due to this major mis-communication.

Wonderful two weeks in the Riu Palace..

My husband and I spent great deal in hotels in Nuevo Vallarta, but we never stayed in Riu chain of hotels. Hotel Riu Palace Pacifico is a great place to spend a week or longer. All facilities are very nice. Gardens are kept trimmed, walkways are being constantly cleaned by the hotel staff. Food in La Peninsula is a buffet style with many choices either at breakfast, lunch or dinner. La Toscana (Steak Place) has buffet as well for lunch, it has less to chose from, but... Definitely adequate. Lounge chairs around the large pool are plentiful. Rooms: ours was on the 8th floor, excellent view of the ocean. Our room was cleaned daily, we NEVER had any problems to complain about. Even though the Palace is far superior to Jalisco or Vallarta, the same chain of hotels, there is still room for improvement: 1. The safe in our room was on the floor in the closet. Being elderly, it takes some energy (and flexibility) to squat down and... Get up again, when the safe is being used. It would make the "process" much easier, had the safe would have been a bit higher (on shelf, perhaps). 2. There is ONLY one restroom (below the La Peninsula Restaurant), which is rather far for anyone to walk from the beach. We've noticed that there are restrooms right on the beach at Riu Jalisco. Having a restroom on the beach at Riu Palace would be a great improvement. 3. Staff should ask "gentlemen" NOT to come for dinner wearing scruffy shorts and flip flops, especially at the La Toscana. If these men want to be "casual", they might as well eat at La Peninsula (they will still look odd at the dinner time). Overall, we had a great time, all staff people are very friendly and accommodating. Daily Shows were quite entertaining.....

Needs updating; not for the young crowd

People really love Riu Palace and I can’t figure out why. The clientele was definitely retirees escaping the frigid climates in their home towns. Could have been the time of year, but for a group in their mid-30s/early 40s it was a bit much. Hardly any kids in sight so that was nice. The Riu next door is modernized to look like a W hotel and definitely hosts the 20 somethings. That place looked more fun but the one night we went it wasn’t lively (no one in the smelly/hot “nightclub”) and there was a girl fight. We got the two extremes at the two hotels. Hotel/Room: The decor needs a major update. The bed sheets are noticeably old (fuzzed linen and pillow cases) and I get that it’s a warm spot, but no comforter or cover, really? You will not get any slippers or a robe (at least I didn’t in a partial ocean view junior suite). Pool/beach: the pool is huge and well done. Swim up bar, large raised circle pool in the center and lots of built in lounge chairs to catch some sun. Unfortunately, the pool water was kept as cold as the Pacific Ocean so not too many people actually inside the pool. Food/drink: the breakfast buffet leaves a lot to be desired. Totally European/American tailored. Eating out as much as possible to try good authentic Mexican food is a must. Didn’t eat at the other restaurants, but for lunch they BBQ chicken outside by the pool. Tasty but people always get turned away because they don’t make enough food. The room service menu is limited. Drinks are OK. The cocktails are really sweet. Saw some sipping on some “dirty monkeys” and those were tasty. They serve Pepsi products so a rum and coke isn’t doable (trust, it’s not the same with Pepsi). Bugs: I read a review that also noted mosquitos. That’s not a dig on the hotel since it’s just the environment but come prepared. No flies though so that was a plus! Even with the complimentary room upgraded, I couldn’t get with the Riu and will definitely lodge somewhere else next time in Puerto Vallarta.

Location: 20 minutes from the airport. Room: Junior Suite with no view. Room was clean. Used the in room safe with no issues. Room was cleaned nicely each day. Pool: Pool was very nice. I think the heated infinity pool cascading into the main pool took the edge off the coolness. I have experienced very cold pools in very warm parts of Mexico. This was not the case. I notice that people in past reviews are irritated by the missing pool tiles and thought this might bother me. This was a non issue in my opinion. The girls serving drinks at pool side were very good and would have offered service aprox. 3-4 times per hour. The distance to the bathroom thing was not an issue as well unless you were being overly lazy. There is a cleaning lady literally waiting outside the bathroom at all times to mop the water off of the floor. Nice touch. Food: Food was great at the buffet. Lots of options for the pickiest of eaters. I saw vegan and gluten free options although not overly plentiful. My favorite was the beef tenderloin with bacon wrapped around the outside. I also liked the pasta bar although it was slow at times. Drinks: Drinks were good. My favorite was the bottles of beer at lunch (Tecate,Dos Equis) Gin and tonic with lime. Red wine was okay (3 different types) Shiraz was my preference. I tried the Rose at lunch and it was not too friendly. General Opinion: We wondered to the Julisco and Vallarta a few properties down the beach. We were not overly impressed. The pool was dirty and the places felt overly crowded. Bathrooms stunk and flies were everywhere. Maybe not a fair assessment as we were looking at the property with a biased opinion as we had been at the Palace for a couple days by then. Summary: We got an extremely good deal with kids staying for free in the promotion. We were worried that the hotel was not going to have enough things for the kids to do. This was not the case. We left them at the kids club (4&6) and they loved the crafts and beach time. We decided that we WOULD go back and stay at this resort but likely with a different airline provider. ( Sunwing leaves a lot to be desired).

This Rui wasn't as good as the other one in Cabo San Lucas.

We stayed in Rui Palace in Cabo San Lucas couple of times. We were very pleased with everything there. That is why when we made travel arrangement for Puerto Vallarta, we choose Rui Palace Pacifico. What a mistake. It is a very beautiful hotel right at the beach. It had a grand lobby (very impressive I might add). Rooms were exactly like the one in the other Rui hotel. We had some water view from the balcony. FOOD was a total disappointment. Seemed like there were lot to choose from by when I went from section to section, it all look like it was sitting there for hours. Either cooked too much or not cooked at all. Potatoes were soaking in oil. I wanted to get a crape made. The lady totally ignored me did her own thing, walked to different section, came back. I said I would like a crape she looked at me funny and said it is still cooking. POOL was huge. There were built in lounge chairs in the pool. Pool always looked dirty. There was a white film floating on top by the pool sides + more. It was not welcoming at all. BEACH was right there. It was great but don't go walking bare foot. Something bit me while I was walking and it was very painful. Not due to hotel's fault I was in bed with a flu few days of my vacation and there was constant construction noise outside. It wad drilling and hammering all day long. That drove me crazy. We were group of 11 people and we all agreed that it was not worth the money they charged . We would not go back to this hotel again.

I read a lot of reviews for this and many other resorts before deciding to go with this place and am so glad! What ultimately made me decide on this place was the beach from what I read beforehand- it's not enclosed and small, it's not isolated, there is plenty of space, and you can walk miles and miles along it. And those reviews were true! Here's what we thought overall- Service: really nice and friendly staff overall for most everyone we met. We ate at one of the restaurants once (the rest of the time we went to the buffet) and the host seemed rather annoyed/irritated to be there, and he literally threw our napkins in our laps when we sat down. And only once at the buffet did we find some of the staff to be slow- at one time our stack of plates was 4 plates high before being cleared! Food: excellent. The selections were extensive, and the taste/quality delicious. There's the main buffet area at La Peninsula and there's another buffet at the steakhouse location for lunch after hours (from like 11am to 6 I think for those that miss the other buffet, or those that want to keep eating?), so there's never a problem with being hungry. The sports bar is open 24/7 and has nachos, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, fresh cut fruit, etc. The coffee at the sports bar is also very good and made fresh to order. Beach, pool, seating: I remember reading many reviews which said that you should claim your seat early in the morning or you'll be left with nothing, I did not find that to be the case. We are late risers however and tend to get out there late (after 12), and while there were many seats taken there were also still many seats to choose from, so I wouldn't stress about that. Also, I remember reading that the nearest bathroom from the pool/beach is extremely far - it really only took 1-2 minutes to walk to the bathroom. So while a bathroom could be closer depending upon where you are seated, I didn't find it to be that far. Hotel premises and room: we had a Jr suite with partial ocean view- our view was actually a large area of the ocean! We faced inward toward the courtyard. I was worried we might get a small sliver of ocean, but no, it's basically the whole ocean. The room was spacious, clean, fully stocked, and comfortable. And the architecture of the whole hotel premises was really nice- classic 20s/30s look to it. A comment about the guests of the hotel: really diverse group of people from young to older. There are couples, groups of friends, and families, so it was quite mixed, and you really won't feel out of place as a result. And the place is safe- we had no problems with the safe in the room either. Drinks: The bartenders were great- they were all friendly, and they made great drinks. We went to all of the bars. Overall impression: We would definitely return. We've only been to an all-inclusive one other time which was in Cancun (fiesta americana condesa) and had a great time there, however this was even better!
