We've stayed at several Rius and have found this one to rank right up there. Great service all week long! Very good food and bar service/beach service good. No complaints. Hats off to Tomas at La Peninsula in the morning for SUPERIOR service every day at breakfast! A wonderful person! If you've never stayed in this area, why not? Beautifual beaches surrounded by grren mountains. On second thought, don't go here....the less people to spoil it! This year we were treated to whale watching one ofternoon from the beach. i recommend a mmorning kayak ride too. A great new perspective. We'll be back for sure!

We stayed at the Riu Palace Pacifico four nights and have nothing but the highest praise for the staff, food and the facility. Everyone was pleasant and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Thank you also to Apple Vacations for guiding us through this our first adventure to Mexico.

Riu - Great hotel and pool but food could be more diverse

Apr 08 2018
Food was predominantly Mexican (obviously) but it could be more diverse. We didn't have much Asian/Carribean options. Entertainment was fair at best. There could have been at least 1 night where a celebrity singer/dancer could have performed maybe? The resort lacked a discotheque/night club. Service at pool and hotel was excellent. Room service was great. Pool was a bit crowded at times. A second/third smaller pool would have helped. Also there wasn't a hot tub/sauna area in the pool. Proximity to the beach was fantastic since we could swim in the ocean and walk about 100 meters back to the pool.

Everything was at high level. The only thing that I did not like (I like to swim in ocean) were big waves, so had to swim in the pool.

Everything was excellent with a suggestion.....Don't push 2 double beds together to make one. I essentially slept in different bed than wife--boo! Also some nicer pillows would be helpful. Otherwise perfect.

Very Nice, but starting to look alittle tired as far as the hotel condition.

Very nice rooms and the hotel staff does an outstanding job. The food was nicely presented, tasty and plentiful. The bar service was lacking in that they ran out of some high end liquors and never replaced them the whole time we were there which was a major disappointment. We have been to these hotel more then 10 times and are very pleased overall, but this trip was somewhat lacking of a 5 star hotel/resort.

This is our 3rd stay at the Riu Pacifico in Puerto Vallarta. It does not disappoint. We love all the amenities mentioned in the survey along with the downtown and surrounding towns. We always feel safe here. We have acquaintances from previous stays and we book at the same or overlapping time to maximize our fun. The only surprise or disappointment was the charter choice. Frontier was a bare bones transportation. Everything above the flight was a charge. That includes luggage, carry one, snack, coffee, even water. That may be the way travel is headed. The complimentary services I guess are not that important, but the luggage or moving in around to other seats that are empty for a $50 charge, seems gouging. The plane was clean, but unable to recline in the seats as the tray table is no bigger than a checkbook. We made good time and stewardesses were pleasant, just bare bones.

Overall we are very satisfied as we had a wonderful time. The two areas that need attention are the availability of the restaurants, and the availability of seats at the pool. Two of the restaurants we tried to eat at (The Japanese Restaurant, and Cristal) have very limited seating, but do not take reservations. If you want to eat there you need to be there as soon as they open their doors to get you name on their list. Why not just take reservations that can be placed when you check in? Also, the "host" at the Cristal Restaurant has no business working in a customer service role as he was extremely rude! Concerning seats at the pool. Guests were going out at 2:00 AM to place towels on seats to reserve them for later that day! If you waited until morning to look for a seat, you were out of luck!

This was our 10th trip to P.V./R.N....8 via Apple 8 Riu 1 Iberostar 1Barcelo...Riu has our location preference....but Iberostar & Barcelona are by far both better all inclusive so...hate Frontier airlines...too many gimick extra fees ie seats bags and no free drinks...any other airlines is better....bring back the Alaska charters...Riu palace is a pretty facility but borderline food and drinks...pool deck trashy...saw the same trash not picked up days in a row...ceiling fans in the hotel lobby and dining areas were always off...we make this trip annually...are looking at other hotel options for next year...must say the waters/waitresses are always pleasant and charming. Apple should review airline options for future charters...do not appreciate all Frontiers added costs

Not 5 star never again !!!!

Stayed here for 2 weeks for a chance to see the other side of Mexico having stayed in playa del carmen 5 times in Riu hotels. Have to say hotel is beautiful and clean . Pool was dissapointing as insects in it all the time ,covered with a film of sun tan oil and drinks etc. Think maybe the main pool needs to be separate from pool bar as so many people sit there for hours all day without getting out to pee.The beach is ok sand can be black, horses pooing and weeing on sand stinks. Waiter on the beach was superb!,,, Staff in the main restaurant ... EVERYTHING morning for 2 weeks we sat for 10 minutes before being served coffee, despite the waiters not being busy ,in the end my husband helped himself. We got the impression if you don’t tip no service, or more to the point if u are not Mexican or American then u don’t matter. Never once in playa del carmen have we experienced this. Truth is other nationality’s pay TO GET good service whereas us brits pay for good service.... food was ok had better In less starred hotels. Hotel entrainment is repeated weekly ... no where to walk of an evening ie shops bars etc, unless u get taxi you are confined to hotel. Mossies are a nightmare and never saw anyone fog around the gardens...TUI trips are awesome and had good times. Will not recommend or return to this hotel. Playa del carmen riu hotels are first class with first class service ....maybe give this hotel a few lessons, especially as its classed as a palace .....

Top-notch All-inclusive - the family is headed back for the third time this year!

We've only been to a few All-inclusive resorts in Mexico, but this one has made it really hard to go anywhere else and we're going back in November again. The value is incredible - our family of four booked for a week here with a private shuttle from the airport for around $5k before discounts from the Delta AmEx discounts, which were quite nice with the original bonus 70,000 miles we had received. Upon arrival, you're offered a refreshing drink, check-in is quick and painless; they offered us a free upgrade to the Family Suite (2 bedroom unit that has a bigger living space and better ocean view) - what a way to start the week! Of course, this year we'll be booking the same Family Suite again. The staff at Palace Pacifico are excellent, always a smile, and ready to assist however they can. I'll give a brief overview of the highlights! We ended up doing a dolphin adventure nearby (around 15-20 minutes south by Taxi) and had excellent assistance from the reps in the hotel - they weren't pushy about extra outings and my youngest daughter was able to go for free. The rooms were super clean every day - always could tell everything was organized for us, even in the bathroom. The mini-bar in the room had top-shelf spirits and every bar in the place had great liquor options if you ask for them. The food is excellent - we went to two of the (5?) restaurants and it wasn't hard to get reservations at these places. The buffet always satisfied the kids, and rarely did my wife and I go there and not end up over-eating because of so many options. The pool was always clean, not over-crowded, and not an over-abundance of college students which was a huge plus. Definitely have to be up at around 630-645 every morning to get a great chair by the pool, but they also have loungers in the pool, which I loved. The swim-up bar was great as well, and shady in the afternoon sun. The entertainment every night was enjoyable and they had a great outdoor bar (they let us play our own music on my Bluetooth speaker after the nightly show was over. The bartenders were awesome - be sure to ask for a mamada shot there... Overall, easily the destination vacation I'll be taking my family for every year I can afford it!! Finally, a little tipping goes a long way here - all of the staff usually are working 6 days a week. Suffice it to say, a $10 tip at the beginning of the week and a few bucks here an there every day will get you better service than you can imagine - they'll know your name, make your drink before you even order it, and they are great, great, great people! Book it.

Awesome!

Every time we go to PV and stay somewhere else, this is the hotel we compare everything else to. The nightly entertainment was awesome and a level above any other resort. The food was amazing and we never had even just a decent meal. And the staff was great, always making sure everything was perfect.

The funny way

The blackbird feasting at breakfast without paying. The insolent mosquitoes feasting on you. The revealing Italian art staring you down. The headless statue robbed of seeing anything. The funny way the breeze wavered then charged, blowing you sideways. The blue sky serreptiously forcing clouds beyond you, shuffling them backwards. The unforgiving waves determining a red flag on your behalf. The audacious Golden Sun blinding you with beauty. **** On a more serious note, the barbecue chef made a valiant effort daily in the heat. He saw no tips. He delivered delicious food. He is to be commended. If you have medium, realistic expectations and understand what the hotel doesn't have, you'll enjoy what it offers. If you have high, high expectations or require a good quality mattress, choose another place.

Nice for a week

This was a pleasant place to stay for a week for the price we paid for four. If it's the place for you depends on your needs and expectations. Everything is contained in one block. It is not a huge sprawling resort. Navigation was easy and walking minimal relatively. There is only one large pool and by the end of the day it showed in cleanliness. We were there at 95% occupancy so high use showed daily. If kids running around a pool irritates you, consider an adults only resort. Some guests were very inconsiderate with smoking in undesignated areas... disappointing. The beach front was fine for this area; expect rough waves. Based on the reviews we saw before we left, the food exceeded our expectations. If you expect Michelin quality, look for a five star resort instead. Three of the four dinner restaurants were very good, the steakhouse was satisfactory. I didn't have any outstanding drinks except for the dark ale, although alcohol isn't a priority for me. Also, evening entertainment exceeded expectations and was good enough for us. The piano lounge is oversized. It would be nice to see something more creative with this space and the sports bar too. A new style arcade or something different would give this place a boost from the regular. I cannot forget to give a shout out to the energetic activities staff who did a great job day and night. For the most part, service was good given how busy they were. The front desk was always helpful to us. Would I recommend? Yes for adults with balanced expectations and yes for a wedding if you get a fair price. If you have back issues, the mattress quality might be an issue. Would I return? No, mainly because we had our fill in one week and the mattresses were substandard for us. We flipped ours to make it bearable. I would consider a newer Rui Palace somewhere else. We did a city excursion that I'll review separately. It was okay except for a two hour delay and the silver jewelry store being a bit of a sham unfortunately.
