Lovely Beach, Entertaiment Staff is awesome
MITCHELL B.
Nov 02 2018
We had a great stay at Riu Palace Pacifico. Even despite Hurricane Willa, the staff made sure we felt safe and we had fun! The entertainment staff, particularly Fernando, was very present and also had activities all the time. We enjoyed the shows every night (and we usually don't go to the shows at resorts). The food at Krystal was VERY good, we could not believe that we were eating at an all inclusive, we would have been happy with that food anywhere. The food at Kyoto was great as well, and the service in all the restaurants was excellent. The food at the buffets were a little iffy (not surprising and not the worst but definitely if you have a sensitive stomachs proceed with caution). The pool bar service was excellent, and the cocktail service at the beach and by the pool was AMAZING, refilling my drinks before I even was finished with my last one. The beach is very nice, very swimmable, no big rocks or anything. Apple did not notify the hotel it was our honeymoon so we didn't get an upgrade, but once the hotel found out they sent a bottle of champagne and strawberries which was very nice. I would recommend this hotel.

Riu Palace Pacifico - The Good & The Bad
LUKE R.
Aug 10 2018
Our visit at the Riu had both really positive experiences combined with some frustrations. The cleanliness of the hotel, quality of the room, and most of the staff were very good. We especially appreciated the beach-side bar service of Luis and Irving at the front desk. However, the food program gives this hotel a big downgrade for us. Only a single restaurant is open for breakfast and the waits to get in were often 20 minutes. Once in, it's buffet mostly with a fresh omlet line if you want one. The food availability around the pool and beach is non-existant. You have to go back to the buffet for food. Our family aren't big buffet fans, there wasn't much for freshly prepared food until dinner. The service and quality of the food at dinner were very poor with the exception of the Japanese and Fusion restaurants. Our biggest frustration was how they managed seating. No reservations, so if you didn't time it right you'd have a 90 minute wait to be seated. Additionally, the portions were pretty small and they would only let you order 1 entrees. No surf and turf at this resort, it's surf or turf. We ended up splitting our meals up to try multiple things. The cleanliness of our room was excellent, the rooms were in great condition. The mattress was pretty worn out, but overall, the room exceeded our expectations. The bar service at the beach was excellent, Luis figured out our family's preferences after the first down and took awesome care of us the entire week. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. We had a couple of small issues we needed help on and Irving was very helpful and responsive. If the food program was better, it would dynamically change how I would rate this resort and my willingness to return. Still, I feel the value of the package through Apple was excellent

We've stayed at several Rius and have found this one to rank right up there. Great service all week long! Very good food and bar service/beach service good. No complaints. Hats off to Tomas at La Peninsula in the morning for SUPERIOR service every day at breakfast! A wonderful person! If you've never stayed in this area, why not? Beautifual beaches surrounded by grren mountains. On second thought, don't go here....the less people to spoil it! This year we were treated to whale watching one ofternoon from the beach. i recommend a mmorning kayak ride too. A great new perspective. We'll be back for sure!

We stayed at the Riu Palace Pacifico four nights and have nothing but the highest praise for the staff, food and the facility. Everyone was pleasant and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Thank you also to Apple Vacations for guiding us through this our first adventure to Mexico.

Riu - Great hotel and pool but food could be more diverse
SANDEEP S.
Apr 08 2018
Food was predominantly Mexican (obviously) but it could be more diverse. We didn't have much Asian/Carribean options. Entertainment was fair at best. There could have been at least 1 night where a celebrity singer/dancer could have performed maybe? The resort lacked a discotheque/night club. Service at pool and hotel was excellent. Room service was great. Pool was a bit crowded at times. A second/third smaller pool would have helped. Also there wasn't a hot tub/sauna area in the pool. Proximity to the beach was fantastic since we could swim in the ocean and walk about 100 meters back to the pool.

Everything was at high level. The only thing that I did not like (I like to swim in ocean) were big waves, so had to swim in the pool.

Everything was excellent with a suggestion.....Don't push 2 double beds together to make one. I essentially slept in different bed than wife--boo! Also some nicer pillows would be helpful. Otherwise perfect.

Very nice rooms and the hotel staff does an outstanding job. The food was nicely presented, tasty and plentiful. The bar service was lacking in that they ran out of some high end liquors and never replaced them the whole time we were there which was a major disappointment. We have been to these hotel more then 10 times and are very pleased overall, but this trip was somewhat lacking of a 5 star hotel/resort.

This is our 3rd stay at the Riu Pacifico in Puerto Vallarta. It does not disappoint. We love all the amenities mentioned in the survey along with the downtown and surrounding towns. We always feel safe here. We have acquaintances from previous stays and we book at the same or overlapping time to maximize our fun. The only surprise or disappointment was the charter choice. Frontier was a bare bones transportation. Everything above the flight was a charge. That includes luggage, carry one, snack, coffee, even water. That may be the way travel is headed. The complimentary services I guess are not that important, but the luggage or moving in around to other seats that are empty for a $50 charge, seems gouging. The plane was clean, but unable to recline in the seats as the tray table is no bigger than a checkbook. We made good time and stewardesses were pleasant, just bare bones.

Fabulous resort, it was our sixth time at this resort. The beach is just beautiful, you can walk for miles. The ocean was warm and clean. Fantastic staff everyone was so friendly and we were thrilled that so many of them remembered us. Hotel rooms are very nice too. Great food as well. We went to Puerta vallarta for the afternoon followed by a great dinner at Cafe des Atristes a must if you're ever in the area.

We spent a week in November and enjoyed the resort fully. Very clean rooms and excellent food. They could use a few more restaurants. The staff is helpful and polite. The only trouble is that they are a long ways out from the main town.

Have been traveling to the Riu since it opened. The staff, while there has been some turnover, continues to be attentive, friendly, caring and always willing to help. The hotel, while still elegant, is starting to need some updating and repairs. The pool is losing some tiles, there are some leaks in the infinity pool, upholstered furniture in the lobby worn. The Guacamole Restaurant has changed the recipe for its Tortilla Soup which, in the past was excellent, is now flavored broth. A disappointment. Krystal, LaToscana and The Peninsula buffet continue to be excellent. Now, rather than once/week, but daily, they also serve a meal at the pool for lunch, if you don't want to go inside to the buffet. Friends had issues with black mold in their bathroom which was immediately taken care of by the staff. There were a lot of bees at the pool, stinging one in our party. A few days before I arrived, a cruise ship of singles, for $100/each, could use the pool and restaurants. This was not an addition to the pool area but a negative.

16 days of bliss

16 great relaxing days. Just returned from 16 nights at the Palace. I can't understand the negative reviews. The staff was always attentive and polite. Room always cleaned and no drain smells. Never seen a hotel so well maintained  Positives. Huge bed, good view from balcony. Fast room service. Attentive servers around the pool, they litterally cant be more helpful. Of course you need to tip as it's the done thing. Food in the buffet was always varied and good quality. Bbq lunchtime at the pool for something different. The sunsets where breathtaking, never tired of watching it. We even saw turtles hatching on the beach. Kate the TUI rep was great. Very knowledgable and helpful. Ok the slight negatives...We was on the 3rd floor near the ice machine which could be a little noisy when people was getting ice. The themed restaurants lacked atmosphere maybe needed background music relevant to the theme. Very busy weekends which isnt bad but it can be noisy around pool. Biggest criticism however was the people who saved sunbeds with a rock or magazine or some other thing. . There are that many beds it just wasnt necessary. None of this though was anything to complain about or lose sleep over. Lots of taxis, very cheap, to take you too the Malecon and Sayulita for a proper Mexican feel. Did some great trips. Best being extreme adventure. Consisting of speedboats, off roading, donkey ride, lots of airlines, absailing, water slides and much more. Never been away this late in the year before but definitely will again with weather in 30's everyday.

Won’t be back

First the positives, the hotel is lovely, rooms are nice and clean, maybe a little dated but still nice. The food is good and have had no trouble getting into the a la cartes. The waiters and waitresses around the pool and beach and serving drinks at night are outstanding, so I’m guessing you are wondering why I have given the hotel such a low mark. The lifeguards around the pool are like little Hitlers, so regimented. Don’t move your sunbeds too much you will be reprimanded. Do not put your lilo in the pool, even though it is ok to put the extra large rings in the pool it is not ok to do so with a lilo. A lifeguard actually jumped into the pool to tell my daughter to get out with hers and made so much fuss my daughter felt bullied. We complained to the hotel manager saying if all inflatables were not allowed in the pool that we could understand but didn’t get the difference between lilos and inflatable rings. He told us that security said rings were ok and lilos were not, since when did security run hotels I didn’t believe it for one minute and felt and still do that we were victimised. After the lilo incident we would also have the particular lifeguard constantly walk up and down in front of us, like he was watching us. We normally spend most of our day time around the hotel pool but due to this we felt uncomfortable and have spent the days at the beach which for us isn’t ideal. (I am not a lover of the sand) I did try speaking to the Tui rep but to be honest she was not really bothered and I got the impression the last thing she wanted to do was upset the hotel. In fact she’s pretty useless we went on a couple of trips, a night time one and daytime one to the island of coletas. In the spill from said rep she will tell u it is a 45 min boat journey, more like 1 hour and 45 mins. The evening trip which is a meal and a show, gets very cold going over and you can also get splashed so be sure to take a top to keep warm and if like us you dress up a bit something to keep u dry. Also be aware it is a long evening from about 6.30pm and you won’t get back much before 12.30am Also the hotel is suppose to offer a turn down service, fresh towels, chocolate on the bed etc this is very hit and miss dispite going to the rep, the reception (twice) and management out of 9 nights so far we have had it 3 times and my adult daughters twice! This may seem trivial but this hotel is suppose to be the best Riu in the area and compared to the Riu we stayed at in Costa Rica last year it is no where near as good, yet it is more expensive. For me the worse thing is that management/tui rep don’t really want to do anything to make the customers experience as good as it should be. Very poor customer service
