Riu Palace Mexico abounds with European flourishes such as hand painted murals, floral ceilings rimmed in gold, and a tiny Spanish chapel. Splashing fountains, statues, gazebos, and wrought iron benches rest in a romantic courtyard beneath the shade of towering palms, while sprays of bougainvillea adorn slanted sun-shelters by two magnificent pools.

La Bodega, Don Julian, El Patio, and La Traviata restaurants offer specialty a la carte dishes and spectacular buffets. Recently revamped menus now offer a wide range of cuisine and finer ingredients at the a la carte restaurants, as well as the incorporation of a vegetarian menu in all restaurants. A lavish nightclub in whimsical design hosts nightly entertainment, and a pristine white beach along the mesmerizing turquoise sea promises to delight the senses and soothe the soul.

Deluxe and spacious guestrooms (mostly split-level) were renovated in 2012. All are beautifully decorated in rich wood and granite rose tile, offering a sitting area with mini-fridge and bar.

Endless amenities include waiter service at the renovated pool area, snorkeling, windsurfing, body boarding, kayaking, and scuba lessons in the pool! Riu Palace Mexico provides the best entertainment for adults and children. RiuLand Kids' Club offers activities for the little ones.

3rd Time here and still Love it!

This is our 3rd stay at RPM. I cannot say enough about the friendliness of the staff. Everyone is willing to go above and beyond to make sure your stay is excellent. The food is great and the nightly entertainment is always fun. Will be back again next year!

The resort is good, the service is good also. The only drawbacks were that the MExican rodents/Rabbits would come out every night faithfully looking for food. They don't bother you, they're just a lot of them around. Then the rooms and the pool are far from the beach which makes you feel like your at a local pool. I know this sounds bad, but we really enjoyed ourselves outside of that.

Besides the beautiful hotel, room, courtyard, beach and pool, the top notch food, the staff really was the highlight. The attitude of the staff and caring service they gave is what really made this hotel from very good to excellent. These people were trained well and cared about their job and making you feel important and that you truly were on a vacation. Thank you for everything we will be back.

We just got back from a 7 night stay at RUI Palace Mexico. We booked this hotel due to the ability to use the facilities at the neighboring RUI hotels, such as pools restaurants etcs. We were very disappointed to find out that we could use the beach and pools and get drinks from other bars but were unable to eat at their restaurants. So for a 7 night stay there was only 4 options of food to pick from (1 restaurant was always closed). The hotel room we booked was supposed to be a KING but it was 2 queen beds put together. The hotel room itself was ok, it was extremely muggy and sticky at all times there was no vents for the shower so all your clothes stayed damp and started to smell... The beach was nice and big plenty of chairs. All the staff was friendly. There wasn't much to do around the hotel and no gift shops really. I am comparing this vacation to the last one i went to in mexico which was The Grand Palladium and LOVED it there. It's a nice small quiet resort but i wouldn't go back.

A different kind of All Inclusive
FAM1955, Guatemala City, Guatemala

I am not a fan of All inclusive hotels. However, if you come to the Playa del Carmen location, almost all the hotels are all inclusive.... We came to spend the Easter week here, and was a very good surprise.... The hotel is recently renovated, and the room decoration (despite some might not agree) was nice. In our case, we had the shower and the toilet separated, and the jacuzzi too. It had a curtain so you can close it and have them in privacy. One thing the hotel has to look seriously are the pillows. We had ours changed several times but they were always worn out, tough or disbanded. The food was very good; they had Don Julian restaurant for breakfast, where you can have all types of food for it, and for dinner, with daily specialties. The night we ate there, they have, for example, lobster tails, and shrimps; not usually found on buffets at all inclusive..... They also had specialty restaurants, we tried the french and the italian with excellent food provided. Beach was ample and private; only guests from this hotel (and not the neighbor Riu 9 were allowed in the beach and that prevailed the area from being crowded... waiters with drinks were always around.... also, had a spot of Scuba Diving, where you can program diving excursions.... The hotel should consider building some bathrooms, in the building that is right there on the beach, because If you want to go, you have to walk a long way to the WC in the restaurant, that is somehow far. Finally at the lobby you have a good quality drinks bar, and a 24 hr lounge with food and computer with prints. Also they have a little chapel at the entrance for praying.... An added value is that you are a 5 minutes taxi ride to downtown Playa (Quinta Avenida) or can walk if you want, is very safe inside the Playacar complex, or across the street they have a mini mall of souvenirs, t-shirts etc.

Wonderful resort!

We LOVE the Riu Palace Mexico! My family has traveled to Riu resorts many times and has never been disappointed. EVERY employee works so hard. It is ALWAYS clean. I can see that employees work extremely hard to keep the resort clean every day. All of the bartenders and servers are kind and attentive. A special thanks to Abraham who serves breakfast at the buffet and lunch as well. He went above and beyond serving my family. Omar at the bar is great. The entertainment staff is great as well. I’d like to point out Astrid, Katrina, Joe, and Joshua. They were very personable and made us feel welcome. We liked the activities such as beach and pool volleyball and bingo. I wish I could point out more workers, but I don’t remember all of their names. The food and drinks are wonderful as well. You get more at this resort than you could ever possibly imagine. I would recommend the Riu Palace Mexico to anyone. It is family friendly or also a nice getaway place with friends.

My family and I went to Riu Palace Riviera Maya and upon our arrival we got told by the reception that there were no more available rooms (even though my dad had booked the trip 5 months in advance). The manager said that they would transfer us to another hotel two minutes away, Riu Palace Mexico. They claimed the Riviera Maya would soon be closing for renovation and that Riu Palace Mexico was recently renovated and it was a lot better than the one we had booked. Trusting the people at the reception was both our worst mistake and best choice. We accepted the transfer and moved to Riu Palace Mexico. As soon as we reached the outside of the building, we could already tell it was a massive downgrade. Riu Palace Rivera Maya was gorgeous on the inside (very old fashioned chic). Couldn’t say the same about Riu Palace Mexico. I don’t know who their architect/interior designer is but oh my goodness. The interior of the resort is the most horrendous thing I have ever seen. It was a purple and silver mess with tiled columns and plastic looking silver bamboos. The only pretty thing present in that hotel was the chandelier and the beach. The decoration was so cheap and tacky looking I don’t even understand how someone would put that in a so called 5 star resort. We finally made our way to our rooms. We had two: one for my sister and I and one for my parents. We wanted rooms with adjoining doors but ended up with rooms that were separated by another room. Oh well, not that big of a deal, except we had to keep going back and forth to share our stuff. But oh my gosh. The rooms. I can’t even. If you hate purple don’t come to this resort because it’s literally a purple overdose. The room itself was spacious, had a big bed but that’s about everything that was good. The pillows were terrible, the shower and the bathtub were not secluded in one part of the room (instead they were visible to whoever was sitting on the bed, so if you are thinking of sharing a room with someone you are not that comfortable with, it’s kinda awkward). The purple pillows on the bed, the purple couch, the purple curtains, and the purple frames of a pile of stones on the wall are really tiring to look at, not relaxing at all. Now, moving on to the pools. Oh boy. Where do I even start? Well, let me start by saying that they suck. There are three pools and they are tiny. They are dirty and have missing tiles and your neighborhood pool is probably better and bigger than the pools at Riu Palace Mexico. The fountains in the center of resort are bigger than the pools!!!!! It’s ridiculous!!! The beach is really pretty, but something that bothered me A LOT, no it wasn’t the purple, it was the fact people could smoke ANYWHERE. Yup, no designated areas for smokers. Riu Palace Mexico wants its guests to suffer from lung cancer and asthma attacks. The only good thing about this resort was the food. Well, some of the food. The buffet by the pool: disgusting. Birds peck the food, so WATCH OUT before taking your pick! The breakfast and dinner are good. The Italian restaurant was absolutely delicious, gotta take my hat off to them on that aspect. The servers and the staff, except the people from the reception who were super unhelpful except for one gentleman who helped us later, were SUPER nice and friendly. My family and I were very much pissed off. THIS RESORT IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY. I REPEAT: NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY! For the amount you are paying to stay here, you could be doing a nice cruise somewhere or find a better resort. We literally left after two days and went to another resort about 20 minutes away. It was cheaper, ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, and HUMONGOUS. The pool was ginormous and the food was good. And yup, you guessed it: NO PURPLE. The beach was as beautiful as the one at Riu Palace Mexico. Because they moved us from the hotel we had booked and the other hotel was a big disappointment, we were so mad we just wanted to leave. And I’m so glad we did because then we had a blast at the other resort, which was a billion times better. Save your money and find a better resort.

Great trip

My partner and I came to Riu Palace in November and had a wonderful time. Food was great as was the service. Prior to flying out I read a lot of reviews saying that the restaurants were closed with no notice. This was certainly not the case for us but we were advised that sometimes they do close for refurbishing outside of peak season. Our favourite places were the Mexican and steak houses. It's great that they do not limit how many times you can attend as many places in Playacar do. I recommend the omlettes at breakfast, the steaks and the tortillas in the Mexican restaurant. Make sure to get the nachos at the poolside at lunch too! On Thursday we attended the kitchen tour which was great. You meet a lot of the staff behind the scenes and it's great to see the bits that usually go unseen! Great location, always felt safe. Unfortunately we missed out on the watersports as we left it to the last day and the sea conditions were not safe enough for us to kayak. Definitely do this as early as possible so you are not disappointed.
