The staff was amazing, I was given the wrong room but Dollyat the fron desk took right care of it and we could ot have bee happier beautiful comfortable room, the bar staff was super once they knew what you drank they never forgot and always refilled your glass without even having to ask them. The sea was rough one day which caused a lot of seaweed was removed by mid morning, We had a wonderful relaxing vacation and look forward to going back.

I've stayed at this hotel in excess of 15 times, And it gets better each time I return. I've also stayed in a number of other hotels and the Macao is #1. The facilities are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly, the staff is friendly and goes the extra miles to make sure your completely satisfied, the food choices in the main buffets seem to never end, and the pools and beach are outstanding. There are also plenty of activities available during the day and a show virtually every night. I've always enjoyed a great time. The Macao is also the only Riu hotel in the group that's adults only. Overall I would rate Stowe hotel 5 stars, and plan on returning.

Everything was wonderful from the minute we checked in. The front desk people were so friendly, the service throughout our stay was great. The room was cleaned a couple times a day. The food was some of the best I've had at an all inclusive resort. The pools and pool areas were clean, the beach was nicely kept up. Besides for the weather, which could not be controlled, the trip was great all the way around!

We decided to escape to Punta Cana this year and Riu Palace Macao was our destination! From Dari at check in to FrNces from apple we were off to a good start. Maid service was exceptional however hotel maintenance was poor; our phone was broken the entire week, we were told the man that repairs that was on holiday. Air conditioning in the rooms was hit or miss with our last night a total miss when the room hit 88 degrees. Again we were told nonchalantly that the entire building was without ac and they hoped to have it repaired that day(as we checked out). So a few bumps in the road but back to general service like Francisco who took his personal time to help us obtain a bulb syringe from town and Juan who kept my glass full (most often with ice water). The area is beautiful as is the resort! Food was mediocre as were drinks but cerveza was nice and cold! We would go back, probably earlier in the year when not as hot! Great time!!

10 year anniversary We had the absolute best vacation ever!! Our anniversary trip could not have been better. The room, staff, beach, pool and the animation team was simply the best! SuperMambo was our favorite of the animation team but we loved Aleesa too! We really loved the whole team because they were amazing. SuperMambo definitely brought the party every time he entered the room! He taught us how to salsa and made us crack up the whole time. We adored SuperMambo!! He made our trip so fun!! I have nothing negative to say at all! The resort was gorgeous and relaxing. I read so many mixed reviews when I was researching resorts and I have to say the negative ones are just RIDICULOUS!! I mean I don't think this vacation could have gone better! We enjoyed every second. The food was great and there was a huge variety. I tried grouper for the first time and that's my favorite fish now. We are planning our next vacation back to the Macao as soon as possible. Even though there are many resorts in Punta Cana I can't see a need to try any other when we obviously found the best! When you go look up SuperMambo for a good time!

The hotel and staff is just what we expected with Riu. We have stayed in Riu Hotels in several countries and it has always been a pleasant experience. The resort was well maintained and overall the staff was courteous and attentive (there is always one or two that don't make you fell like you are at home). The entertainment staff did an excellent job, along with the bar and service staff. The maid service did a fabulous job with taking care of our room and the resort. The food was excellent, a lot of variety and different selections each day. The dessert bar was out of this world. Our only dull spot of the trip was with the front desk on check in day (our room was not ready at 3 pm) and the staff did not seem as though they knew how to handle it. Once the Front Desk Supervisor was called over he was able to straighten it out. The worst part of the trip was SPIRIT AIRLINES, they nickle and dime you for everything, it cost my family an additional $305 just to get our luggage and seat assignments. I would never fly Spirit again and Apple Vacations should not even include them in their packages.

upon check in we were told our room wouldn't be ready until the next day, at this point we were offered a upgraded suite for 1 night. the lady at the desk said it was free for 1 night and if we wanted to stay in this room it would be 80 dollars more a night. the next day at around 9 am we checked and were told to check back later, at 12 noon was told the room wouldn't be ready until after 2 pm, I complained about having to unpack and repack and missing time at the beach but was told there was nothing that could be done at that time I asked for the manager and got the same run around, after about 10 mins of complaining and threating to write bad reviews the manager pulled a room key from somebody else's envelope and told me to go pack our bags and call the desk and they would send a porter up to move us. before we could even finish without us calling he was at the door. my recommendation to any body wanting to stay at riu macao is to not accept any temp upgrades unless you want to spend some of your vacation moving from room to room.

I came here 28th May for 2 weeks with my boyfriend and we absolutely loved it. It was our first time staying at a Riu resort and after this holiday it won’t be our last! We were worried before we came that staying in a smaller resort/adults only may get boring as we are quite young but we’re pleasantly surprised to find that there was always something on/stuff to do. The animation team are the most hardworking people I’ve met, constantly full of energy and trying to make sure you have the best time possible. They have long hours but never let it show, it truly shows that they do love their job. The food was great, obviously after 2 weeks you start to get bored but that is the same everywhere you go. There was always a great selection at the buffets. The only downside I would say is that the a la carte restaurants were too small for the size of the hotel, they were always packed full and it wasn’t overly enjoyable not being able to hear yourself. The waiting staff were fabulous especially Luilly who looked after us in the morning and Aquino who looked after us at lunch and dinner! They couldn’t do enough for us and we got on with them so well. Thank you both! The hotel as a whole is beautiful, beaches to pool it was immaculate and just as you expect! Whilst we were there it was my birthday and the staff made it so enjoyable by going above and beyond to help celebrate with me! The cake was delicious!! So in conclusion, if you want to relax in one of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean where the people are super friendly, the sun is always shining and there is lots to do, this hotel is the place for you!

I was switched from Bahia amber blue because they was refurbing there blue rooms and I’m glad they was . Ok so I’ll start with check in went through in minutes even though there was about 8 couples well done ,the room very spacious we was 3283 very clean looking out of the balcony looked over next hotel but could see the sea to the right bed massive and very comfortable, the bathroom came with two sinks shower with rain shower head aswell as a normal shower very good towels changed daily if left in shower The dining side of the hotel was outstanding I did manage to congratulate the head chef on restaurants and staff you’ve got the buffet for a great choice every night, the steakhouse generally you had to wait 45 mins every time but well worth it the 12 oz Angus steak was great and cooked how you want , if you don’t like raw Japanese food don’t go in the Chinese The bars and waiters amazing drinks to your table when ever you required worked very hard all of them . Activity’s staff have got to have a special mention the four of them was absolutely outstanding on the go all day and night Wikie-Wikie , ferdy. Spaghetti and Elesa I take my hat of to you all nothing to much trouble for them The beach was great sandy and blue water although the seaweed spoilt it a little they worked tirelessly to keep it in hand all in all a really immaculate hotel great holiday from start to finish well done palace Macao

Checking In We arrived at the hotel after a long flight from the UK followed by the ordeal of Punta Cana Airport; as we were tired we were relieved to find that the check in process was smooth and very straightforward. The reception staff also arranged for our bags to be delivered to our rooms thus continuing to make the arrival easy. The room Our room was large with with an ample balcony, our bathroom was also well proportioned. At first when entering the room we found that it smelt of damp, we were assured that this was quite normal for a tropical climate and that the next day we would not notice anything. The rooms all have various optics and various soft drinks and beers in a fridge. A pleasant surprise was the provision of a coffee machine. A useful addition to the room was an iron and ironing board. Meals Breakfast was served in the El Patio restaurant and there was a large variety of items on offer that would suit all tastes, lunch was a buffet style that also has a reasonable selection of foods (this become a bit repetitive after a few days). Dinner could either be had in the El Patio or one of the specialist restaurants (Steak Restaurant, Italian Restaurant, Japanese Restaurant or Gourmet Restaurant). Booking is not required at these restaurants and if they were busy you would be given a buzzer that would sound once there is room. The cappuccino buffet as open throughout the day and night for snacks and coffee or tea. Entertainment The entertainment team were outstanding and kept guests entertained all day and night with various games pool parties during the day with a selection of shows in the evening. Two of the shows held during our stay at the hotel that were top class were The circus and the Michael Jackson show!! Staff I found that all the staff to be helpful and assisted wherever they could from the reception staff to the domestic staff, the bar staff and a special mention is to be made to the waiters whom brought drinks to guests around the pools and beach

My husband and I came here for our fifth wedding anniversary and was the first time for us to stay at an adults only hotel. We loved the intimate feel of the place, that there were plenty of sunbeds and places to sunbathe and that everything was really close at hand. Unlike larger hotels, such as the nearby Riu Republica, nothing is too far away at the Macao. The pools are close to the bedrooms, the restaurants are close to the pools and the beach is in front of everything! The buffet restaurant is very well stocked with local and international cuisine and there are themed nights, such as Caribbean, Mexican, international and Asian. There is always something to tempt at this restaurant. The Japanese restaurant Kabuki offers lovely sushi as an appetiser followed by a three course menu and sake if requested. The Steakhouse is where you're likely to find the Americans (who can be a bit loud on occasion) and you are offered a Caesar salad and fish appestisers followed by a selection of mains and a ready plated selection of mini desserts to finish. The italian and the fusion restaurants were my least favourite - both try a little too hard to be fashionable and cutting edge for my taste, but the food was good. Staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home. Special thanks to Pedro in the Pancho restaurant and Bermudez in the swim up pool bar. There is a nightly entertainment programme - I particularly enjoyed the Burlesque dancing and the Michael Jackson tribute. Alcoholic drink selection is good and its worth checking out the cocktail list!! Our bedroom was on the second floor and sea-facing. It was large and spacious and wonderfully cool after the heat of the midday sun. Our maid was very efficient and our room was beautifully decorated on our arrival, and most evenings too. A fabulous relaxing holiday and a hotel my husband and I would look to go back to. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Definitely NOT a five star facility

HOTEL ON ARRIVAL THIS was not our hotel choice. TUI took our booking and then cancelled the hotel about six weeks later with no real option to go to this unknown facility. NO ONE TOLD US THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS PRISON TYPE FACILITIES WITHIN SHORT WALKING DISTANCE OF THE HOTEL The first immediate sensation at the front of the hotel was an overwhelming disgusting raw sewage smell. My wife and I were at the hotel 21/05/18 to 04/06/18. Room 3117 which was, as requested, in a quiet location. On arrival, room allocation appeared to be reasonably well organised which was, pleasantly, better than expected. This man who handed out keys and all inclusive bracelets spoke the best English of a hotel employee during the totality of our stay. We were given a small and I mean VERY small printed map of the complex. No information supplied as to what we as guests were allowed to do, How the all inclusive works. No detail about room or laundry services. The first indication that the hotel is quite old came with a room KEY, not a card. A porter appeared, kidnapping our cases, obviously on the chase a tip pathway. We were left to our own devices to find our room which took several attempts and about ten minutes. ROOM Our suite was quite spacious with basic functional hard wearing furniture. The television reception for those that are interested was very poor. The fridge was humming away, making a very annoying noise. The freezer part of the fridge was basically frozen solid with ice. There was a single bottle of full sugar Pepsi. There were four almost full large optics for the alcoholics. A coffee filter was on top of the fridge and was the source of the annoying vibration. There were no coffee making supplies, not even water. Then the porter arrived and “lingered” We are frequent travellers and were sorted quickly and having had a very long day were just interested in cleaning up and sleep. The safe was open and clear, large print instructions were inside. The safe failed to operate necessitating my going to reception then waiting for someone to come and use over an override code to allow us access to items within. There was no room service information in the room although there was a single used room service order form on the table. We went through the night and the following morning the most positive thing of the holiday happened. The sliding screen door to the balcony has an additional sliding door which, in our room, was very poorly fitted. It constantly stuck when opening and closing. The sliding door to the separate toilet often jumped from its floor groove. SAFE I had put all our valuables into the safe including a considerable sum of cash but managed to leave it open. On our return from breakfast, the room cleaner, to my shame I never learnt her name came dashing up to us saying “problem” “ big problems” took us in and showed the open safe. A quick check and I knew all was in order. We looked after her but such honesty was very refreshing as it could, so easily have all gone wrong. THE RESORT TUI REPS NEVER THERE Day to day was a learning exercise. With the exception of the first morning briefing with a TUI Rep doing a hard sell stating that we could get a 10% discount on trips but only if booked by 12 noon. Reps from several companies were at desks throughout the day, every day but never saw a TUI Rep again. All the contact info cards were blank. English speaking staff was a rare exception to the rule and whilst I manage French, Italian and German, I lack even basic Spanish, the common language by resort staff. Getting information was sporadic and difficult. This was our first ever All Inclusive which was allegedly spread through a resort and we just wanted to know what rules applied. No Joy other than trial and error. POOL-AREA Rules of the hotel state that “reserving” beds etc by towel placing is a no no and that unused beds would have towels removed by staff. No such thing happened as a couple of dollars had staff placing towels on selected choices. I saw it first hand MANY times between 7 - 9am. I am an experienced worldwide traveler and take advantage of the correct times of day to avoid the worst of hot sun hence I am up and about early Unused beds all day every day with a towel draped across them are a common site and nothing, despite the hotel rules is done to free them up for use. If beds are unoccupied through the day it is very noticeable and both annoying and infuriating to people who would actually make use of them. ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT ON SITE Animation Team THERE IS NONE however There is a group of three young men and a woman. They do appear to work very hard as shown by their very loud activity every day during pool opening times. The open theatre area was never used during our stay and aside from poolside games there is no entertainment of any sort on the premises In regard to games activity the only people approached by the entertainment staff were those at the actual pool edge or around the swim up bar Who wants to throw hooped wooden discs in 30 degree heat and no shade. TOWELS. The system is supposed to work on the basis that cards are issued to each hotel occupant. These cards are in turn swooped at a rate of one towel to one card. Then swop towel for towel if needed. The system works quite well but is easily overridden. I saw one individual with five separate towels. The towels are, in general, not of good quality as they are worn out through use. Laundering is of poor quality. The towels are scratchy. Often, although clean we’re still dirty looking in appearance. The towels are frequently covered in unpleasant coloured marks and cigarette burns. SUN BEDS The beds are, in general, decent robust quality and reasonably comfortable even with being in un-cushioned hard moulded plastic. They are adjustable from flat to sitting up to an almost completely upright position. POOL AREA STAFF THE first week of our stay, there were lots of staff and lots of service. Second week and there appeared to be a drop in guest numbers and a very significant drop in staff. Week one, intent on staying hydrated, dehydration being a major cause of jet powered squats in hot climates, I basically just had to wave and staff were available. Week two, I got more drinks for my wife and I than drinks through staff. In general they were very good although some were far from subtle when obviously seeking gratuities. SWIM UP BAR. IF, you are like me, a non smoker, and like me hate the stinky smoker smell, the swim up bar will be a no go area. Dozens of overflowing ash trays are scattered about. Access to the pool is further restricted by glasses of drink around the entire perimeter. TOILETS BY THE BAR There is a single disabled unit, NO hand wash soap throughout the majority of my stay. There is a gents with two urinals and two stalls also absent soap for a large part of our two week stay. The female toilets have a couple of extra stalls and once again soap was missing. FOOD The simple fact that so much of access to food is reliant on self service buffet areas ensures that this is NOT a five star hotel. The food in the buffet area is in the main quite reasonable. Signs are displayed as to what the food is said to be. Signs are often moved and staff do not in the main understand English when asked simple contents questions such as “ what meat is in this stew?” The layout is not user friendly as hot dishes are kept under heat bulbs and I, being 6ft 2” and limited bending due to injuries burnt my arms daily. The Steak is nicely dry fried and could be very nice but you can only do so much with poor quality grisly, fatty steaks. There is a great deal of pork. There is a good selection of salad greens but I see the layout (most often 4dishes deep) as being substantial reason behind so many bad tummy bugs. So many people plus inevitable bad hygiene reaching over and mishandling foods in a hot climate equals bad belly syndrome. RESTAURANTS are only open 5/7 evenings BUFFET The main eating area being buffet has lots of variety but is, in the main quite bland tasting. I cannot think of even one buffet dish that’s stands out as being really tasty and would definitely eat again. ITALIAN (shared with steakhouse and is pool buffet during the day) We had a couple of these and found the lamb chops to be very good indeed. Nothing else stood out as being memorable. JAPANESE I have never had this type of food and in general did not like it with an exception of the beef dish. They happily gave me rice instead of the noodles which to my mind improved the dish many times over. STEAK ( shared with Italian and is pool buffet during the day) I ate here twice. Once to have a very tough steak and a second time to have a hard rubberised lobster. I think it was dry cooked over flame type heat but it was incredibly tough. CRYSTAL Easily the best of the food throughout the hotel in a pleasant quiet and scenic location. It is halfway to the beach and as such much quieter than any of the other choices. IMPACT OF OTHER GUESTS As with any hotel, anywhere in fact you cannot ensure decent behaviour by the people around you. I like Americans but there was a group of 13 who were doing the rounds of the restaurants in the evening who were just totally disgusting in their behavioural standards. People were discussing this group daily. They just did not give a dam about the impact on other diners. I mention this simply because they were continually supplied alcohol at each of the venues that we unfortunately had started to eat and in they came. They got more disruptive, more disruptive and unruly as the booze flowed. Staff were clearly disapproving but had no idea as to how to deal with the situation. TUI told us when booking that restaurants at other hotels wouldn’t be available to us. We never found them and a combo of no English and no TUI reps did not clarify. BEACH We walked the beach in the early part of the day managing to avoid the cigar, coconut and photography hawkers. They are, thankfully, not as insistent as Mexicans or Egyptians. The beach is lovely fine sand but every morning awash with seaweed. The sea is quite rough and not suitable on the most part for swimming or snorkelling due to tide, waves and cloudy unclear water. OVERALL CONCLUSION There is little doubt that this facility is luxurious when compared to what DR residents experience. I have travelled far and wide and am fortunate to have stayed in real five star and five star plus accommodations. In the real world however this hotel complex is not even close to either the five star plus claimed or five star because The buildings are too old and show it. Insufficient toilet facilities. No enforcement of no smoking areas and allowing drunken obnoxious behaviour. Towels and bedding too tired and worn out. Key locks on bedroom doors. Buffet food of a 3 - 4 star at best quality Sporadic service standards. English not commonly spoken. A CONSTANT stink of raw sewage. This was a reasonable break but far from the luxurious standards that we were told by TUI that we could expect and varies between upper three star and at best low to mid four star. The complex is very isolated and bar the very expensive trips and very limited shopping opportunities has little in the way of entertainment. I would not go back to this hotel. There are many places to go, worldwide with better standards and at a lesser cost.
