Smaller size translates to superior service. Food, drink and facilities best of any RIU we have ever been to. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for quiet, beautiful surroundings.

Watersports

The only negative experience I had was the outsourced watersports. I took a sailboat out the first day there and on my return, the staff pressed me very hard for tips. This resort is supposed to be all inclusive including tips. I usually tip extra anyway for excellent service but all they did was pull the boat onto the beach, really nothing special. They really got on me about tipping and since I was in my bathing suit I had no money with me. I went back to the room and brought back a tip because I wanted to make sure they would help me later in the stay, however after the experience, I never did use the watersports again.

The resort was nice, staff was great, food and drinks excellent. Only issue was serving after the sale. Great customer service while buying the package. But terrible after the sale. Left messages with return response. On hold for an hour and finally got to speak with a very rude lady.

Thiscresirt is besutiful! Well maintained - very clean & the 3 pools are amazing! Only negative is the Restraunt food was so so. Buffett’s was amazing. Staff very accomidating- if you needed anything you just had to ask. The beach was beautiful - well kept and maintained. Would like to hear a little music in background while on beach though. I like having a special drink everyday - needvto add this to their bar menue. All in All it’s a gorgeous place! We were taken well care of- the weather was beautiful - water was beautiful-

Staff and accommodations were great. The beach had a ton of seaweed so, not so good. Entertainment should start earlier in the evening, such as 7:30 or 8:00. Food wasn't the greatest.

Hotel staff was amazing. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly, treated us like family. We spent my wife's birthday there and not only did she get a cake but a small gift from the hotel. Staff sang happy birthday to her a couple time through out the day. We loved this hotel and will highly recommend it to family and friends.

Not the best, but you'll still enjoy yourself

Overall Thoughts: Just wrapped up a 7 night stay there from 3/29/19-4/5/19 and my wife and I had a great time. This is my second time staying at a Dominican Riu - If having a less busy environment, less noise, no children and a bit of an older crowd is a priority for you, then I think it's a great option. The only comparable option in the complex would be the VIP section of the Riu Palace Bavaro resort. If you'd like better food options and a younger crowd I'd recommend trying Bambu or one of the other palace resorts. It met my expectations and I enjoyed my vacation so I'm giving it a positive review, but there were several disappointing things that brought my review down to a 3 star review. I think just about anyone will enjoy their stay and time here, but aside from being adult only / less crowded and noisy - there's a lot of benefits you'll get from staying at one of the other Riu Resorts (I wouldn't recommend Naiboa though). Pros: - Not crowded or noisy - Everything is close by (the resort isn't large and spread out) - Rooms were good (fixtures, cleanliness and experience was great) - Breakfast and Dinner Buffet was good - All Staff were helpful and friendly - Pool and beach experience was great. Cons: - Food was just ok quality and taste and there were not a lot of options - Challenges eating or drinking at other connected resorts (they should fix this, especially for drinking when it's the exact same alcohol options - A big part of why I chose to stay at Riu was the capability to visit with our friends staying in a connected resort) - Watered down / fake "brand name" liquor(s) this is worse than just not having them available (offer the real thing and have an up-charge for better liquor if the cost is an issue) - Poor Room Service / grab n go food options (The ability to order a greater variety of things and having better quality for both the breakfast delivery, grab n go (coffee bar) and all day room service is something I expected and have had at every other resort I've been to, including other Riu's.) - No pool/beachside food / grilling options (at least 2 or 3 of the of the other Riu resorts in this complex offer something hot to eat poolside for lunch - having to pack up your stuff mid-day and leave the beach or pool just to go get lunch is an unnecessary hassle and something a lot of guests don't want to have to do) - Casino is a rip-off - Not a con for me since I already knew it was, but guests should know not to get sucked in. They have low minimums for blackjack, a shady high stakes table game you can't win, but think you can and $10 match coupons that draw you in to spend money there. Everything I've seen and experienced there tells me just about everything is rigged. Your only chance to make money there would be if there are multiple others playing blackjack with you or playing against other real people at the hold em poker table. Never play the dealer 1on1 in the table games, and you probably don't want to do 2 on 1 either - you'll coincidentally have a lot of unexplained bad luck as you lose to the house time after time. Remember you're in another country and there are little to no regulations for gaming there. The Property: It doesn't look as nice or new as the other Riu resorts in the complex like Palace Punta Cana or Bambu, but the layout is nice, you don't have to walk very far to get to food or the pools and the beach front is much deeper and larger than any of the other Riu Resorts in this complex. The Rooms: We didn't see much value in upgrading our room this time around, so we just had a king bed in a fairly standard room. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean and updated. The furniture was nice, the bathroom and fixtures were great and the safe, the fridge and air conditioning worked great for us. In our liquor dispenser we had a couple bottles of local Rum's (Brugal was one of the brands), a bottle of Stoli Vodka and Gordon's Gin. In the fridge we had two large bottles of water (1.5 or 2 liters each) a couple cans of beer (Presidente), 7up, pepsi, diet pepsi, orange pop, club soda and tonic water. Each morning around 9:30, someone would come by with beverages to restock fridges and liquor cabinets and you could request anything you needed more of (beer, water, etc.), if you weren't in your room, they'd restock your fridge for you and if you needed anything else you could go to the front desk to request it. The Food: - We weren't blown away by anything, but we enjoyed the food enough and were satisfied with the quality for resort food. In particular the Breakfast and Dinner Buffet (El Patio) was the best quality resort buffet I have experienced. Pancho for lunch was ok, but didn't have as much variety or as great a quality of food as the dinner and breakfast buffet. We also attended the Italian restaurant and the fusion restaurant. The Italian had some unique options that tasted fine. For a resort restaurant I think it was good quality, but nothing special. The Fusion Restaurant (Krystal) also had some unique options and we really enjoyed the food there. In particular the steak was great and cooked perfectly. The restaurant is on stilts right on the beach, so you may be cold if it's windy and you don't dress accordingly. The grab n go food in the coffee bar was not good (although the coffee / latte options were great). The room service also was not very great and in my opinion for both the breakfast and night time delivery had the lowest quality and least options I have experienced at a resort. The Pool/Beach Experience: - The beach front was wider and deeper than any of the other Riu resorts close by and was not very crowded at all. The pools also while they were "busyish" you could always find a couple of seats available any time of day and you didn't have to try hard to claim a bed by the pool at several points throughout the day. The smaller pool (with the bar) wasn't very crowded at wall, the wait at the bar wasn't long if any and the in pool beds were wider and there were more than at Palace Punta Cana (Palace Punta Cana also didn't have canopy beds poolside either). The other pool was much bigger and never had many in it, but we never used it and stuck by the smaller pool with the bar. The Guests at the resort and poolside we're older across the board, we saw a few couples in their 20s, and several in their 30s, but most at the resort were 40s, 50s and 60s. The Bar / Alcohol Experience: - All of the bars at Palace Macao appeared to have the same liquor's available and had a wide variety of liquor types, mixers and combinations you could make. You could call any liquor they had and any drink / combination you'd like or just take one of the ones they provided on their menu. You could ask for the drinks as strong or weak as you'd like as well. As for "Name Brand" liquors, for ones I could remember they had Jim Beam, Johny Walker (red), Dewars White Label, Beefeaters, Stoli. Unfortunately as you can read in some of the reviews none of the "Name brand liquor" that I tried tasted like the real thing and was likely something else or watered down. The Johnny Walker (red) for wasn't very smoky or harsh and was easy to drink (it tasted similar and I think it was just watered down) - Johnny Red is usually a strong smokey taste, harsh and hard to drink. The Jim Beam tasted weak and didn't taste like Jim at all - it may not have even been whiskey. Based off of the look and taste I think it may have just been rum. For my wife and I we could ignore the "liquor quality" and didn't need straight drinks with our favorite brands / quality. We instead enjoyed the quantity and the many combinations and were just fine. If you do want better liquor quality, I'd recommend staying in the VIP section of Riu Palace Bavaro - I've stayed there in the past and they had better liquor available and it all tasted authentic (at least at the pool bar). Shoutout to two great bartenders at the resort who were especially excellent - Bermudez at the pool bar and Johann at the lobby bar. Additionally Flores one of the poolside wait staff at Palace Punta Cana was also excellent. We also never had a negative experience with any of the staff - everyone was friendly and helpful. Comparing the experience to other Riu Resorts close by: - We had Friends staying at Palace Punta Cana (2 resorts over) and met with them for dinner on 2 nights (once in Riu Bambu and once in Palace Punta Cana) and spent a lot of time in / by their pool. When we checked in, we were given the impression that by staying at a Palace resort we would have access to visit and experience the other resorts freely. When we tried to have dinner at Riu Bambu we were told we weren't supposed to be able to, but "they made an exception". All of the restaurant options at Riu Bambu looked great by the way and we were very impressed with the Italian Dinner Buffet. I never had an issue getting drinks at bars in Riu Bambu either. At Palace Punta Cana we also enjoyed our dinner at the Asian restaurant (can't remember the name) and we did our best to conceal our wristbands so we didn't get any questions or issues here. For lunch at Palace Punta Cana, they had a comparable lunch buffet to ours, but they also had a grill by the pool bar that had Burgers (decent), Hot Dogs (not so great) and Jerk Chicken (amazing). The Jerk chicken was excellent and I enjoyed it on 3 different days. Since the food was free for all, I wasn't challenged to eat there, however attempting to get drinks at the bars even though the drink options were exactly the same they said they weren't supposed to serve me. In the end, I had friends get me drinks or the servers walking around poolside were happy to serve me no questions asked. The resorts themselves (both Bambu and Palace Punta Cana) looked brand new or very recently renovated and were very nice. They both had much smaller beach fronts than palace Macao (both in width and depth) and both the pools and the beach areas were much more crowded than Palace Macao. The crowd was much younger in both those resorts as well, there were many families with young children, a lot of teenagers and plenty of couples from their 20s to 40s. This meant more energy in the pool, beach and bar areas, but a lot less space, longer waits at the bars and fewer seats available at the beach, in the pool and beside the pool. One more thing - Stay away from the casino - aside from playing hold em' poker or if there are several others playing blackjack with you - you don't stand a chance of winning anything and there is definitely some rigging going on.

Less than what we expected. The first room they put us in smelled terribly of mold and mildew. They sent us to a second room that wasn't any better. Finally the third room was much better. The AC was less than adequate in all of the 8 rooms that our group booked. Overall the food was ok but not great. The waiters however were excellent. The drinks were delicious and the bartenders were also excellent. The front desk staff was not overly friendly or accomodating. We felt like we were a bother to them. The massage at the spa was excellent.

Returned on 03/31, and noticed my brand new prescription sunglasses missing ($325). Emailed RIU Macao twice to check Lost & Found. No response, at all. Today, my sister in law realized her spare glasses & sunglasses are also missing. We have all the cases, but not the glasses, and know we both had the glasses the day before we left. Coincidence, I think not. Rm 3420 & 3422..Never thought to put glasses in the safe..We have stayed at the RIUs before, but the staff at RIU Macao failed miserably.

Great vacation at RIU Palace Macao!!! Will be back!!!

We just got back from our stay at this property and have nothing but good things to say about this resort and our overall experience. Was very relaxing, great food and drinks, service and excellent beach with the best location and huge awesome palm trees - provides excellent shade for those who don't want to fry in the sun. The resort is very clean - spotless! The manager Manny is a gem - he is so helpful, understanding and just a nice guy - he helped make our stay at Place Macao even better! We will definitely be back at this resort - great and relaxing time for people/couples who just need to relax and have nothing to worry about. I am very picky and I found nothing wrong about this resort or to really complain about. The rooms could use some updating in terms of furniture and colours of the walls (everything is white) but, everything works, very clean rooms, white sheets and towels that don't have any stains or look like they are 100 years old. We felt comfortable. I read many reviews and wasn't sure what to expect but I am glad that I know for myself that I can definitely come back here next time. Some people say nasty for unknown reasons or maybe bad mood, but believe the better/good reviews. Thank you RIU Palace Macao - we can't wait to return!!!!!!
