I really can’t speak highly enough of this place. From the moment we entered the property my partner and I were overwhelmed at how friendly the staff were. Check in was supposed to be at 3 however our room wasn’t ready until 3.45 nonetheless this was no issue and this gave us time to explore and have a drink. When we arrived at our room it was spotless and the spirits dispenser was a great feature. The room maybe could of done with some snacks but there is so much food available that this is a blessing in disguise. We did have an issue with our air con on the second day so we told them on our way down to the pool at around 8am and this was resolved by the time we returned at 3pm. No such thing as “Caribbean time” at this hotel. At this time of year there were always sunbeds available by all 3 of the pools and the beach. Being a lover of Caribbean food I was in love with the Jamaican food on offer and the red snapper was a particular favourite of mine. In addition to this the non Jamaican food offerings looked good. We also enjoyed dining in the a la carte restaurants, our favourite dish was the crusted steak in Zen - the Japanese restaurant. We were sceptical about the no reservation system but this seemed to work at this time of year. There are 3 smoking areas dotted about the property, 2 located by the beach which are nice settings to relax and smoke. Weed is widely available and usage is not at all frowned upon. Smoking is “banned/illegal” in other areas including balconies so just try and be sly, you will see people doing it. We did experience rain most afternoons around 3pm but we did receive good sun in the mornings and the entertainment team who were a really charismatic and engaging bunch would try their best to entertain despite the weather. The free water sports located on the beach were great fun, no need to worry about the “pirates” selling out of their kayaks as they are harmless and will take no for an answer. This also applies for the guys located on the bridge between the palace and Riu Montego Bay. The Riu Montego Bay has a nightclub and a bigger hotel shop. The shop in the riu palace is pretty overpriced in my opinion for things like snacks etc and some gifts. I’d suggest a trip over the road to the shopping village as they have a supermarket, a number of gift stores and a pharmacy with imported snacks being a fraction of the price. The road is quite busy to cross and you may get hassled a little bit by sellers but it’s all part of the experience. Beware tipping is just one of those things out here like many other countries. It will make the service you receive even better but if you choose not to you will still receive good service. As a young couple we had a great time here but it seemed that everyone else was as well. I’d like to give a special mention to Ikerel the wise and positive cleaner, Rondell the life guard and Reynaldo the bartender and a solid connect 4 opponent. However as I said prior to this all the staff add to great vibe in the hotel. And also I’d highly recommend a trip to Dunns river falls if you get there early and the Appleton rum distillery. So gutted to be leaving tomorrow, but I’d like to think that I’d return one day!

First visit to a riu palace

We stayed here in May for 10 nights. After staying at a few riu's in other countries we decided to upgrade this time to the palace. This palace does seem to be significantly smaller than other rius and palace, with a little bit more of a chilled out atmosphere compared to others however the hotel is still lovely. The room is huge and spacious and the jacuzzi in the bath is lovely. The beach at this hotel is a man made beach however its still white sand and blue sea so nothing to complain about! Sun loungers seem to be available all day by the beach and pool so no need to reserve. The buffet restaurant is standard food like all the other rius however it would have been nice to have some jamaican food consistently at the buffet for dinner as they only seemed to do this on some days. The only speciality restaurant that we visited was the steakhouse.. the steak was nice however you only get 2 wedges with the meal.. this could definitely be improved! A note to everyone- you must try the jerk shack at lunchtime on the beach of the nextdoor riu hotel. As for the evening entertainment if you want a bigger atmosphere and more vibes then go to the other hotels next door. The evening entertainment at the aqua bar was good on some nights but lacking on others as it can get pretty repititive. For anyone who smokes there are 3 designated smoking sections not 2.. you have 1 at the front of the hotel, 1 at the back on the beach and 1 larger section on the side of the beach and pool thats closer to the reggae hotel. The designated sections werent too bad however when it comes to the evening entertainmemt in the aqua bar then it would be nice if they could open up a smoking section in there as some smokers like to enjoy the entertainment but then dont want to leave there table and risk it being taken to go off for a fag. The other 2 rius nextdoor do seem to have a designated smoking section at their theatres which was good so i think the palace should also do the same. Overall it was a lovely holiday and nothing major to complain about! Special shoutout to Odesia (bar staff) , Wilfred (on reception) and Jovan (restaurant and poolside staff) - all 3 of these were lovely, genuine people who would remember who you are and make that holiday more of a personal experience!

Another great holiday...!

We recently came back from our second visit to the Riu Palace Jamaica. We would have no hesitation in going back again. Many of the reasons have been covered by all the fantastic reviews this hotel receives. I would just like to point out the following: Even though we were last at the hotel 16 months ago, quite a few members of the (excellent) staff recognised us...which was really lovely.. The hotel is extremely well run. Thank you to Inma and Beatriz...! The entertainment team is very good...in particular Dr. Fun Fun, Jo Jo, Talawah and Kyash, who are fantastic...! There is no smoking in the hotel (due to Jamaican law) except in a small area to the right outside the entrance, and a small area at the side of the beach. I loved that..! (One other small point of note...there is a small switch on the room fans, which will change them from pushing cold air down onto the bed, to circulating air up from the bed. This can be useful.) Most importantly, for those choosing whether to come to this hotel or not....for the price that you pay, we believe that you will find it very hard to find a better combination of food, entertainment, room, all round cleanliness, quality of drinks, quality of staff, management etc. This is the reason that we are Riu Class members, and continue to go to Riu (Palaces) rather than other types of hotel from other hotel groups. We have stayed in many excellent hotels, but keep coming back to the Riu Palaces due to the type of combination I mentioned above. If you pay less overall this means that you will definitely not have such a good holiday (in our view). Even if you pay more (unless you pay substantially more) I would say you would not be happier. As a specific example, Iberostar Grand hotels...possibly 30-50% more expensive, but not better (in our view, having stayed there). The bottom line...go...and enjoy...!

We originally booked at RIU Montego Bay and received an upgrade at check in! From start to finish everything was fantastic. Resort grounds are beautiful. Rooms were spotless and spacious, food was great, best rum punch ever! Staff did an amazing job, especially Kash, Taliwah and KC. The pool entertainment kept everybody laughing. Added bonus, you can visit the other two RIU's if you stay here, short walk across beach. I would definitely return!

Amazing Service!
