Great Staff incredible food beautiful hotel with epic views

I have stayed at RIU Properties before, this was the best by far. The food was fantastic, we ate at the Steak House and the Italian restaurant both were excellent. The main buffet was awesome. Between theme nights and the incredible variety you can never go wrong. The staff was friendly and really made you feel welcome. A special thanks to Karolina Solis of guest service. I had my Travel Agent contact the resort to have roses delivered to the room. My wife and I were celebrating our 25th Anniversary. Not only did she arrange this but when we returned from our tour our room was decorated and there was champagne, strawberries and chocolates. Plus the gift I brought was placed there, Thank you very much Karolina. The hotel is immaculate well worth the price. The view of the ocean is breath taking. As a bonus for early risers if you take your coffee out on the balcony just after first light you can hear the howler monkeys about a mile up the beach.

A good hotel with brilliant staff. Food especially steak house was awesome although after 2 weeks I was wishing they would change the menu. The staff continually offer drinks and we all enjoyed the cocktails. The room was the problem. We lost the "lounge" area as the sofa became the extra adult bed which m ant you had to sit on the bed. The low table then blocked the table so that became a surface not a table. There was four drawers and one in the one bedside cabinet. Not enough storage The room is open plan meaning the bath is in the room, however you could pull a curtain across which offered some privacy for dressing. The wifi is limited to 4 devices per room, may sound ok but with 3 adults phones iPads kindles really a headache The hairdryer was not working and twice they came to repair it. The ceiling fan was unstable and noisy. This was only sorted when management came to sort the faulty safe although it again was reported twice. Would I go there again probably yes.

Lovely hotel, excellent dining

I stayed here for 2 weeks with my husband. The hotel is very stylish indeed, we had a room on the top floor overlooking the jungle. The room was a bit of a disappointment compared to the rest of the hotel. It is quite large with a nice private balcony and a huge double bed. The bathroom is part of the room, with a large spa bath in the room, the large shower and the toilet do have a door. Water is always hot and the pressure is good. There are 2 sinks and a magnifying mirror in the bathroom, and a hairdryer. A sofa is in the room, air con, a fan, coffee maker (makes tea at a push, if you like your tea I recommend taking a travel kettle) and a fridge which is regularly re stocked. Storage space is not good, 4 medium drawers and a wardrobe, no dressing table with mirror, no clock. I thought the room was well sound insulated until we had new very noisy neighbours toward the end of our stay, when I realised it is not well insulated and we were kept awake late into the night. I recommend ear plugs if you have any trouble sleeping. The room is kept immaculately clean, 4 large towels each day and shampoo/conditioner/body lotion re stocked daily. There are lifts to all floors. The wifi is excellent, free, and available throughout the hotel and grounds. There are 4 restaurants plus the buffet restaurant. All of them are excellent, the only exception is the steak house where we had one OK dinner and one poor. But the service and food and decor in the other restaurants is excellent. The pools are clean, lovely and warm, good quality sunbeds, lots of shade. However, there are no pool toilets, you either have to go to the main building or the steak house restaurant, this is quite a long way, and the absence of people using these toilets suggests to me they are using other facilities! At weekends the hotel gets very busy with short term visitors, and it takes on a very different feel, it was during my first weekend that my Kindle was taken. It was not left lying around, it was in my zipped up bag which was under my sunbed, I went for a quick dip in the pool and my kindle was gone from my bag! The staff in reception, restaurants and bars speak excellent English. They are all very polite and helpful. The animation team work tirelessly and the bar staff work so quickly they are a blur. There are shows at night, they are mostly dancing and miming to songs. They often have music in the bar, the buffet restaurant, and in the theatre before and after the show. However, at the weekend there was no music, just the show, very disappointing, I was expecting something special at the weekend, there is very little to do in the evening as you are far from town, and when there is no music in the hotel the evenings can drag. On several nights one, and sometimes two restaurants were closed, which meant we were unable to eat in the speciality restaurants, they close early at 8.15 and we were unable to get a table. The hotel is beautifully designed, is kept immaculately clean, I have never seen cleaning staff work so hard, our corridor had the floor washed twice daily, walls were washed, skirtings scrubbed. However, the hotel has no feeIing of being in Costa Rica, I felt I could have been anywhere in the world, (apart from palm trees indicating it was somewhere hot) my room overlooked the jungle, and I so enjoyed the sound at night, hearing the monkies and watching the fire flies, but had my room faced the pool I wouldn't have had that experience. The gardens are immaculate, and the views across the sea are beautiful. The hotel next door has a rather more traditional feel, and you can use all their facilities with the exception of dinner, If you are interested in seeing the real Costa Rica, there are trips, some involve a lot of travelling. There is an adventure park nearby with an animal sanctuary and a dramatic zip lining experiences. The town is about 30 minutes away by bus, it costs $15 per person return. We did have a good holiday, not much to do at night, no feel of being in Costa Rica, but lovely food, excellent cocktails, a stylish hotel, beautifully clean and lovely restaurants.

Great Staff - - good food. Desperately need pool toilet facilities and medical staff

Staff were wonderful and animation staff brilliant. Room massive but a little tired décor as was the hallways but main areas were great and spotless. Food was good with loads of choice. 5 lovely pools but you have to either go into the hotel or the steak restaurant to use the toilet facilities. There are wet floor signs all over the place, even when floors dry. I went to the restaurant to use the loo and slipped on the wet floor - cracked my head on the floor and sustained a lump as big as the palm of my hand (Luckily the x-ray showed no damage) and fractured my wrist and am still in plaster. No-one is allowed to give 1st aid according to our rep because of litigation. claims !! You have to call a doctor in I find it ridiculous that there are not nearby dedicated facilities for the pools with non slip floors as obviously people are wet. The other observation is of course that some people will not bother to go the toilet but use the pool !!! Wish I had. Seemed to have weekend only guests - some of which were very noisy Didn't have any issues with mosquitos

Excellent Hotel

We stayed at the Rui Palace in August with 5 friends. Everything about this hotel is excellent. We stayed in room 1028 on the first floor the room was spacious with a big Bathroom/Shower Room which had a Hair Dryer Also the safe is free. there is also a free mini bar which is kept full... The Maid came in everyday and cleaned to a high standard. All towels were changed every day. The food was absolutely beautiful considering the main restaurant was a Buffet Style. The choice was very varied with theme nights on some evenings. Due to this we never ate in any of the themed restaurants. The Pool bar was very good and the service was very good. All the other Bars were excellent also. The swimming pootl was also very good and there were plenty of Sun Beds available although you need to realise August is the low season. This hotel is right next to the beach where you will find water sports and the odd Big Lizard walking about. On the beach you will also find people who will arrange Trips and excursions at a better price than Thompsons. Look for a guy named Haina he his totally honest and reliable.
