Everything we wanted
Lauren B,

We booked the Riu Palace for our honeymoon because we wanted somewhere to relax but didn’t want to be stuck on the resort the whole time. The palace did not disappoint! The food was incredible, the staff was so attentive and fun, everything was so clean and we loved the places we explored outside the resort. I did yoga every morning with Adriana who was so sweet and really loved her job (and was a great dancer in the shows at night!) The only thing I was disappointed about was that we booked the honeymoon package, showed them our marriage license, and didn’t get any welcome gift or anything in our room acknowledging it at all during the week, and the “up to 1400 resort credits” are just a few coupons to the scuba and spa. In the end, it didn’t matter too much because we had a beautiful top floor corner room and enjoyed ourselves so much these were just minor details. A few tips: 1. Don’t miss the International Flavors show. WOW! 2. Don’t listen to the warnings, book with the locals on the beach. We used Alex on the Beach (John Wayne) and others we met had used Caesar adventures and they were great, small tours. We went to Buena Vista lodge, and did a catamaran. 3. Use Hania on the beach for your massage to save $100 and get an amazing massage and facial. 4. Mexican night is delicious! 5. Early December, we were told, is the prettiest time to go. Rainy season has ended and everything is still green! 6. Don’t forget your sunscreen and bug spray! It’s up to $40 in the shop at the resort. We will be back for sure!

Nice clean resort with friendly staff

A nice and clean resort. Exceptionally friendly staff. Shout out to our server Gina Mora who did an excellent job. Marciella was responsible for the room upkeep and did a fantastic job as well. The front desk staff are very helpful. The jacuzzi in the spa is free with appointment. It's a nice big tub which accommodates up to 8 people. Excursions: We did the Nicaragua excursion. We did not think it was worth it considering the time spent in the bus and customs. Leaving Nicaragua we got stuck as a road was closed for over 1 hour. Took a half day trip to Coco Beach. It's a nice little town for shopping etc. but has no sidewalks! What can be improved? Once or twice we ordered room service and the people doing this don't seem to happy even after we tip them. And room service menu is extremely lacking. Create a sidewalk in Coco Beach.

Lovely few days stay at the end of the cloud forest tour

After a fab 4 nights on the Tui cloud forest tour we arrives to stay 3 nights at the Riu Palace our room was lovely modern and a nice view over gardens and could also see the sea Ate in the steakhouse which i loved the beef filet was gorgeous also ate on the fusion i found the duck to be slightly overcooked but still enjoyed the experience and also the japenese which was also gorgeous.Buffet for breakfast and lunch honestly you could not ask for more they had everything covered from Trad rice and beans to eggs benedict and lunch sushi and foods from around the world cant see how anyone could be unhappy also ate in the italian for.lunch which again was gorgeous. All staff in bars and resturants as well as anyone we met were smiley helpful and added to the whole experience .Pool area was extremly hot not a great deal of shade so we used the beach where u can get drink service or the Riu Guanacaste next door plenty of shade there. Had a lovely massage down on the beach from.the local ladies there well worth it overall amazing place to spend some chill time but my 1 word of advice get out and explore the country you wont be dissapointed .

Beautiful Resort

Myself & my boyfriend have just returned from 2 weeks at the RIU Palace Costa Rica, what an incredible place. Room - we had a beautiful room with a huge balcony and sea/pool view. The maids left lovely towel art daily and often petals etc on the bed. Optics/fridge filled daily and housekeeping visited each evening to check if anything else was needed. Bath is lovely, shower is very nice and spacious. Food - we were a bit anxious about the food prior to travelling due to reviews we had read but we were blown away. The buffet always had excellent choice and fresh food - fruit carving was impressive. We tried all restaurants: Japanese was nice but food a bit luke warm, Krystal was lovely, Steakhouse (we went 3 times) was amazing, disappointed with the Italian as food seemed as if it had been standing a while. But overall really pleased. Pools - We used the pool to the left of the swim up bar (not the one with the basketball nets) as this was the quietest area and was really relaxing. Loads of lizards to keep you company around the pool which was lovely to see. Swim-up bar did get rowdy so did not spend much time there. Entertainment - second to none. Some of the dancers could be performing in the west end with their dancing skills, incredible. Beach - stunning scenery, we didn’t manage to see any monkeys but saw baby turtles being released which we were really grateful for. Staff - the nicest I have ever come across. Such genuinely nice people, nothing was too much of an ask and they genuinely seem to love their jobs. Special mention to Branley at the buffet who is a diamond! Overall we were really impressed and glad we chose this over the Guanacaste (quite dated and cramped compared to Palace). We will be returning!

Exceptional Resort with Mediocre Food

Pros: Friendly staff, exceptional clean grounds and rooms, four pools! Cons: If you're looking for an adult only resort, this is not the resort for you. However, I barely noticed the children outside of the buffet. I was seeking food that represented the culture of Costa Rica but all the food seemed Americanized with the exception of the four themed restaurants (Fusion, Japanese, Steak/Seafood, Italian). Out of the four themed restaurants, only two were worth going to (Fusion and the Japanese restaurant was excellent). Ordered lobster at the Steak/Seafood restaurant and it was beyond overcooked. In fact, all the seafood at this resort was overcooked with the exception of the shrimp. There was a large variety of food at the buffet for breakfast and lunch but they missed the marked on breakfast. The pancakes, waffles and french toast were cold every morning! I stayed at the Hotel Riu Palace in Jamaica in 2015 so I had great expectations regarding the food because EVERYTHING was excellent with many cultural dishes to try. Again, great resort with many excursions to try (we did ATV and catamaran). I would have easily given this resort 5 stars had it not been for the food.
