Review of hotel

I was rather disappointed with our hotel stay. Our room was covered with mosquitoes and hotel did nothing that we say to help with the matter. Entertainment was definitely lacking, drinks were not consistent and had a limited selection of them, food was not real hot on buffet, and we couldnít get to steakhouse because it was mostly closed for a party. The pool area was very nice, location was priceless, and beach access was nice. Honestly we decided to find other places to hangout besides the resort. We had a good time but would not recommend this hotel to family and friends.

My family and I have stayed with Apple Vacations many times and this was the best ever. I was first struck by how clean the hotel was. Spotless!! Your employees were all very well trained and professional. Plus, I could tell they enjoyed their job. Good attitude. The food was just great and a good variety was offered. Love the fresh fish. I felt very safe and secure and wouldn't hesitate to recommend that my relatives bring their children her. I've already done this. :-) It's not just my relatives I've told but also my friends what a great experience we had. My son and I spent 95% of our vacation at the hotel because we liked it so much. I will be saving my money to book the next trip with Apple and return to Cabo for more fun!!

What a great resort!!!!

The rooms are awesome - although watch out for the ocean front rooms. They have a block of them that are actually ocean view rooms that they consider ocean front and they are definitely NOT. The buffet food was better than any other resort we've stayed at. The specialty restaurants aren't that great thought - the best one was the Japanese restaurant in the lower end Santa Fe resort. The maÓtre d's are always wanting tips in order for you to seat them. That's one person I don't even think to tip but they are expecting it or they make you wait hours or won't seat you at all. We were turned away twice and the place was empty. The pools were awesome - infinity pools with swim-up bars. They had a quiet side and a party side so you can take your pick. The entertainment was typical resort entertainment except one night they had some opera trio singing and they basically put everyone to sleep. I would lose that act. The wine at the resort was horrible - but you are allowed to bring your own into the country so I had my own. I would recommend them adding some American wines. I had to go to town to get any decent chardonnay. Other than that, the resort is beautiful. Not to large or too small. 5 minute/$14 cab ride to town.

Everything was great the only thing I would recommend is an air vent in the restroom. Many friends and family stayed here for a wedding and we enjoyed ourselves greatly!

My main concern is for those of us who donít speak spanish. When you have approximately 85 to 90% of the people visiting your hotel are English speaking. My point is is when you try asking any hotel personnel a question and they canít answer you because they donít know English, it is very frustrating. I have never been to a hotel in Mexico where the employees didnít know some sort of English. Other than that we had a great time!!!

Our honeymoon was unbelievable. Cabo is gorgeous in the October month. We had 93 degree days with one day with a couple clouds (literally, a couple clouds). Our hotel was nearly perfect. My sister and brother in law along with my mom and dad will both be visiting this location due to our amazing time/ pictures. THANK YOU!

Detail on Airport Transfer
CESAR L.
Oct 29 2017
You to clarify that there is a complete section in the SJD to bypass, because of Time Share Sales. They act as the Airport Transfer agents. That was a waste of time. At least 30 minutes. Otherwise, your disclosure and service would be perfect.

Upgrade to RIU Palace. Turned into a lucky break

Sep 27 2017
I was originally booked in the RIU Santa Fe but it was damaged by Tropical Storm Lidia so I was upgraded to the RIU Palace. I can't really compare the two since I hadn't stayed at either before, but from talking to other people, the RIU Palace is much superior. I had no trouble getting into the specialty restaurants without a reservation, if I was willing to wait just a bit and be flexible. Food in both the buffet and the other restaurants were better than expected, and service by the pool, in the room and around the resort was excellent. I'd definitely go back there.

Great hotel and views!

This hotel is a bit further from town. But its only $14 USD to get into town. This is the resort you would want to stay at if you want to have some fun but relax. The sister hotel is the party hotel, but what's nice, is you can leave the madness and just relax. Room: We stayed in a swim up room. IT WAS AMAZING. You can see part of the view from the rooms even. The only thing was, the pool is NOT heated. Overcast December weather of 75 degrees is NOT warm. But that didnt stop us. Its great that you can see the main pool from where we were. Just a tad far from the pool bars. Food/Drinks: Food was hit and miss. The buffets weren't that good. Some foods were, but it was really more of a miss. Highlight though, lunch at the Italian restaurant was AMAZING. We went every single day. The view is to die for. Something someone would PAY the big bucks at a restaurant in town for. And we got it every single day. Raul was our server. Seriously go to him. He's amazing and was the best. Will have another drink ready for you before you even finish. All the other dinner restaurants were great, of course some dishes more than others. All except for Japanese. We gave it 2 tries, and both times we were underwhelmed. Krystal's appetizer shrimp salad was amazing, and their duck dish. Loved it. Drinks - Find Luty at the loud side pool bar. Goes above and beyond to bring you your drinks. Especially that far walk to the swim out rooms. Tip - Go during warmer months or between holidays. We went on an off week and it was a bit too quiet. We're not crazy party people, but it was even too quiet for us. Wouldnt hesitate to stay again if we go back.

Awful Food. Not Worth the Price

I paid an arm and a leg to stay at this resort over New Years Eve and it is safe to say I would not go back. The general decor of the hotel is very interesting with a giant neon pyramid in the lobby mixed with purple baroque wallpaper and grandmother looking furniture...it was very confused. The rooms are also extremely dated and did not fit the amount of money we were spending. Luckily, the pool area did look like the images. Now to the food... I am not kidding when i say myself and my 5 friends ate only french fries this entire trip. I am not a picky eater, in fact i eat almost everything, and i did not like a single meal i had at this resort. We tried 3 of the restaurants as well as all of the buffets and we were always left hungry and disappointed. One night we even ordered pizza to the resort because we were so desperate for food we could enjoy.

Great service and location!

Riu Palace is in a great location and on a great beach! Unfortunately all the vendors basically set up shop right in front of the beach chairs and can be bothersome at times but we did wind up buying from them and it is convenient to purchase and put it right in your room. Its the same stuff you would buy in town and we found the prices cheaper on the beach. Not sure why they say the beach isn't swimmable..my kids 24 and 19 were in and it was very calm but I guess there was an under toe that could be dangerous if you're not an experienced swimmer. There was drink service on the beach as well. We thought the drinks were made perfectly, not too weak as many said and believe me, we are not strangers to cocktails! Buffets at breakfast and lunch were superior to others we have been too. Housekeeping superior to others and friendliness of the staff was awesome! Special shot out to Esme....that girl handled a busy lobby bar so efficiently she could easily be a New York bartender! My reason for not 5 stars would be dinner. We tried the steakhouse and it was really terrible. Horrible service and they served us the wrong dinners....so the waiter put the lids back on the dishes and served it to the table it belonged to! Not sure that it shouldn't have gone back to the kitchen instead of on someone else table! And the steak, not sure how it was cooked, but it looked like raw meat inside, not red raw, like not cooked but defrosted...i couldn't even put it in my mouth. It looked awful. The Mexican restaurant was ok, but unfortunately the food was not served hot enough. The other restaurants we did not bother to try and just did the buffet or went out in town. My other big complaint was that a king size bed is not a king size bed...it's 2 beds pushed together meaning someone gets the crack. Very uncomfortable. The pillows were uncomfortable too. The hallways are extremely noisy but i guess the hotel can't help the guests being loud and rude at 3:00 a.m. We would go back though! We had a great time and for the value, we would return!

Just perfect !!!!!

Just came back from Riu Palace Los Cabos, (January 4th to the 11th). I must say this was a great experience from the moment we arrived till the last minutes of our trip. The check-in was one of the fastest ,organized, I have ever seen . Hence the 2 hours delay from our flight, we got to the hotel at 9:30pm and in my room at 9:38 :) Rooms are spotless and clean ,so is the entire place. They are maintaining it constantly. Our first evening wondering around the resort , we stoped at front desk asking casually about a room with a ocean view and to our nice surprise , Marimare at front desk offered us right away to switch room on the next day , so we did and it was BEAUTIFUL !!! “ Staff are friendly and welcoming. Service is great. Food , absolutely amazing and tasty. Location is perfect and the water is clear and CLEAN ! A big thank you the all staff and the Hotel manager. I will remember this trip to be one of the best one !!! Thank you ! Thank you ! THANK YOU !! Room 3051:)

Just Married
Kyle M,
Tue Jan 16 20:36:15 EST 2018
Just got back from the RIU and we loved everything about it! Not to mention we got MARRIED during our stay here. Honestly, I read a ton of reviews on YELP, looked at lots of blogs, and even checked out other reviews from Trip Advisor simply because we wanted to make the right choice for our wedding. RIU was excellent to us during our stay- from the room, food, service by the pool, and of course during our wedding day. RIU Palace is an all inclusive resort in Cabo. It is a huge resort with two huge pools (a party side and quiet side), 5 specialty restaurants, a fantastic buffet, bars located on every floor, and a theatre where they do shows nightly. The shows are entertaining, maybe G to PG 13 rated in some spots, but they run from 8-10pm nightly and provide something to do at night. This place has sooo many stairs! I think I did 31 flights of stairs on our first day according to my app. They do have elevators but we enjoyed our "exercise" during our vacation going up and down from the room to the pools and theater. Our room was the Jacuzzi Suite. Located on the upper corner of the hotel, our view was incredible. We looked out over the Sea of Cortez and straight towards where the Arches were located. (couldn't see them from the room however) The room was perfectly located near, but not too near the lobby which was super convenient considering we had to meet our wedding guests as they arrived. We were also located near the main stairwell so getting around the hotel was pretty easy. Our bed was a full King- not two pushed together doubles or queens like others mentioned. We had plenty of closet space and the bathroom was definitely upgraded recently. The food here was pretty good. We both enjoyed the buffets during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There were some items that we tried once and never again, but we really enjoyed all the options in the buffet and their "specials" during the theme nights. The seafood paella was excellent! The bbq burgers and ribs down by the beach during lunch were also very tasty. And I also enjoyed the red snapper. The RIU has a couple of specialty restaurants on the property as well. We only tried the San Jose Restaurant during our stay. It was ok. The buffet was much better. The service was fantastic. Our servers/busers at the buffet were on top of getting water, juice, beer, and wine when our glasses were empty. And they also cleared dirty plates and utensils very quickly. We tipped a couple of bucks each sitting and noticed that we got some more attention after a few days of being there. At the pool we stayed closer to the quiet side. The service there spotty. We had better service when we tipped. They definitely came by more often when you threw a couple of bucks their way every few rounds or so. Our wedding was amazing! It was such blur that it is hard to say how everything went, but we didn't have any major problems with anything! The staff at the RIU were very organized during our meetings leading up to the wedding, and they took my wife's direction and organization of certain things and followed through with excellent attention to detail. Lupita was our main wedding coordinator, but she had an emergency during our week stay. Instead Haniel helped arrange everything for us. He was amazing! He organized our welcome table, favors, and logistics right down to the last detail. He even escorted out a few wedding crashers we had! Haha! Our wedding was super fun and our guests have been telling us how much fun they had! Thanks Haniel! Also, Haniel handled an emergency with one of our guests hotel bookings. He spent 2 hours on the phone with Expedia to clear up the mistake and confusion that our guest made. Excellent customer service! Our only complaint was that there was no rehearsal for our wedding. Well, actually, you can pay for a rehearsal but we opted not too. They (Lupita) stress to you that a rehearsal isn't necessary because they are with you every step of the way, and that the staff will make sure that everyone is on the same page. Well, Lupita was out on emergency and unfortunately this part of the wedding became a bit confusing because Haniel wasn't as experienced. Perhaps having a back up plan for the wedding coordinators is needed just in case there is another emergency. Cruised over to the RIU Sante Fe which is located next door a few times. They have 3 huge bar areas, including a sports bar, and they have Pacha which is their club. We had a blast dancing there a few nights, including after the wedding. Lots of fun and lots of tequila was had there!! So all in all it was a fantastic stay. Never had a second thought about people stealing from us. We heard horror stories but all of our guests went the whole week without an incident. Next time we would like to take an excursion and enjoy a bit more time by the pool, but would recommend RIU Palace for your wedding.
