Upgrade to RIU Palace. Turned into a lucky break
SALLY M.
Sep 27 2017
I was originally booked in the RIU Santa Fe but it was damaged by Tropical Storm Lidia so I was upgraded to the RIU Palace. I can't really compare the two since I hadn't stayed at either before, but from talking to other people, the RIU Palace is much superior. I had no trouble getting into the specialty restaurants without a reservation, if I was willing to wait just a bit and be flexible. Food in both the buffet and the other restaurants were better than expected, and service by the pool, in the room and around the resort was excellent. I'd definitely go back there.

Tropical Storm Lidia Ruins the Riu
MICHAEL G.
Sep 11 2017
Tropical Storm Lidia wreaked havoc on the infrastructure of this resort and in turn our vacation. We had to call our trip short after just 2.5 days. It was particularly frustrating to see the lack of preparation and ability to handle the inclement weather which resulted in a significant loss of power/running water. We were basically trapped at the resort with few alternatives offered until we decided to book the first available flight back to the U.S. (which cost our whole group more money since it wasn't part of our original itinerary). The horrendous living conditions. poor communication from Apple and Riu staff, and general lack of preparation for a situation such as this really left a sour taste in our entire group's mouth. I understand that weather events such as this can be unpredictable, but I would certainly have anticipated and hoped for a better handling of the situation in the storm's aftermath. The experience was really the complete opposite of what we signed up for when we booked our trip back in March.

All in all it was a wonderful and different vacation. It would have been nice if the staff would have spoken "more" English, since most their guests were American! Some staff were rude, but "most" were very nice and attentive!

Good restaurants and food selection. But late night food is lacking. Make more cold cut sandwiches or have a couple other options. Other than lack of late night food, they did a great job.

The resort itself was beautiful, the room was clean and comfortable, the service was good, and the food and drinks were excellent. Unfortunately I would not recommend this resort to anyone after 3 people we were vacationing with had items stolen out of their room. One person had a watch stolen out of their bag in their room, another had $300 stolen out of their bag in their room, and another had $400 stolen out of their room safe. The incidents were reported to management who did nothing to resolve the issue. They denied the fact that staff had stole anything even though they were the only people who had access to the room.

Location was beautiful, hotel staff so-so

Transfer to hotel was fairly simple, although we were asked by the driver to pay a $2.00 toll to make the trip quicker. Started the trip on the wrong foot. Check in was nice, but somewhat hectic. We are spoiled staying at other resorts whom meet you at the taxi with drinks and a joyful smile. We felt as though we were creating more work for the staff and ended up carrying out luggage to our room because the bellman was covered up with luggage. Room was nice, 4th floor with great views. We went to the steakhouse to celebrate an anniversary and were fold we can not make reservations, so we went to eat at 8:00pm, with the restaurant closing at 9 and were told they wouldn't not seat us because they were full. The following evening we went esrly to ensure a table. We were seated after waiting 45min. We waited an additional 30min. To order and while ordering we asked if we could order 1 entree each (steak) and share a lobster dish. We were promptly fold absolutely not, their policy is 1 entree per person. After our initial order the manager asked how we were doing to we asked about the lobster and he brought us an addition entree with no problem. Our original waiter was very rude and inattentive, my husband had to get up to get our table rolls. Friday afternoon of our stay, the "quiet" pool bar closed at 4pm due to a wedding reception, forcing all hotel guests to use activity pool and bar. All in all the location was beautiful, but we will more than likely not return to the RIU Palace in Cabo San Lucas.

Everything was outstanding. The view breathtaking. I look forward to going back ! The views from the beach more than made up for not being able to swim in the bay. One of the most pleasant traveling experience I have ever had. We stayed a Riu Resort in Negril years ago and loved that experience also.

Not too impressed
RANDY P.
Jun 16 2017
No too impressed with the overall hotel. The room was noisy. Could hear every noise from the hallway. Mini bar was not replenished and when we told them, they gave us attitude. The floors were dirty, our socks were literally brown from walking on the floor. Balcony was so tiny that we couldn't open without moving chairs around just to open and close the patio door. The worst part was that there were no restaurants where we could get in to eat. The Mexican restaurant was literally empty inside, but they told us it was a 40 min wait. When we asked him why so long of a wait, he said they weren't seating anyone inside, only on the patio. As we were waiting our 40 minutes, the host turned away so many people saying that there was no room to seat them before they closed at 9. BTW the restaurant is only open from 5-9. This is frustrating when you pay for an all inclusive resort. Overall, I wouldn't recommend and do not plan to return.

Nice but hot

We spent 5 days in October. Resort is nice, staff is friendly. The food was good not great. Pool area had fun things to do each day. Humidity was horrible. Nice beach, but not for swimming, very dangerous. The locals stood on the beach and sold things to tourists. The most concerning; someone opened our safe, resort left a letter stating "they noticed our safe was open and locked for us, providing a new safe code. Our safe was locked when we left our room ( after the cleaning people had already cleaned and left). Someone had access to our safe using a master key. The people in the room next to us had the same situation. From reading more reviews this is a problem at this hotel. Im sure my safe was locked but if i didnt lock it, why would the staff go into my closet and lock or unlock it? Overall nice place but will select another resort next trip because I cant trust that my valuables, cash are safe.

Beautiful place, a few disappointments.

Our group of 8 stayed at the Rui Palace October 10-15. The resort is extremely beautiful, with gorgeous views of the ocean. Our room was on the 4th floor and we had a great view of the ocean. The rooms were perfect size and had all the updated amenities we needed. The A/C ran constantly but the rooms was always nice and cool. The housekeeping staff always kept everything in the room clean and they even left cute towel animals each day. The pools were great and there were always plenty of available chairs around the pool area. There is a quiet side and an activity pool so there was always something for everyone. (Side note: each guest is only allowed one beach towel, so if you desire more than one then you should bring your own.) As for the ocean......if you want to swim in the ocean then this is not the place for you. The water is too rough for swimming but it is truly amazing to look at. The entertainment staff did a great job and they all always had smiles on their faces. April, in the buffet was always helpful and super sweet each morning. She continually made sure we had coffee and anything else we needed. Robert, the waiter around the quiet pool, was hardworking and always polite, he also had a smile each time he came around our way. Our biggest disappointment was the food. I think another reviewer summed it up perfectly by saying it always looked great but the taste was a different story. Sometimes cold, sometimes stale, just overall not good. If you are in the market for sterling silver jewelry then Alfredo "white gloves" on the beach is your guy. He has reasonable prices and he will honestly tell you what is silver and what isn't. This is different than the others selling on the beach who try and tell you everything they sell is sterling silver. I can tell you that this is not the case. Go see Alfredo and he will treat you right and give you a good deal.

Just as good as the last time we stayed here. We stayed at the Riu Palace 1 month after Hurricane Lidia hit the Riu Santa Fe. We couldn't believe how much they had restored the resort and almost as if nothing happened. The Riu Palace is absolutely amazing from the rooms to the food to the bars and activities. You will not be disappointed to stay here. The staff are so accommodating and take great pride in doing everything they can to make your stay the best ever. We stayed here a few years ago and did all the tour things and was very impressed with Cabo Adventures company for the tours. This time we only did one tour in our week stay and decided we just wanted to relax and destress for a week. There is no better place to do that than the Riu Palace. This resort is a 50 minute walk into the town on the beach and is a great way to see the rest of the resorts on the beach.

Worst hotel and service I have ever experience entire in my life.arrived early to be told to move your car from the present position as the receptionist parked there. Got a 16.00 to be told the owner was trying to sell and has lost interest and should have ran.

We had the swim-out room we loved it , after dinner and the show we could get in and get cooled off before bed. Our room was well cleaned and mini fridge restocked every day. The hair dryer in our room would only work for a couple of seconds and the breaker wood turn it off. The air worked great. The entertainment at the pool was wonderful friendly and so much fun. Always something going on at the pool. We ate at the buffet the 1st night it was good. The 2nd night we had Krystal restaurant it was good but the portions were very small the menu was very limited. We ate at the Mexican restaurant for dinner one night, then the next day had lunch there, they serve Italian food for lunch and Mexican at night both meals were fantastic. The steak house was the best dinner we had. The breakfast buffet was ok. the only issue we had was the electric went out at the entire hotel for 2 hours so no flushing the toilets , the restaurants closed no food no air-condition.
