Absolutely Wonderful Resort!

An intrepid traveler for many, many years and love find we have chosen a resort that not only lives up to its published hype but far exceeds one's expectations! The Riu Palace Los Cabos does this in spades! The setting is gorgeous, a four story, architecturally correct Spanish colonial building set beach side in beautifully designed and perfectly kept grounds and overlooking a stretch of Pacific ocean. The resort interiors are just as well kept and beautiful as the outside appearance. The lobby and verandas are particularly well done. The six onsite restaurants serve high quality, plentiful, well prepared food and present a wide variety of cuisine that covers almost any cultural tastes. The pools are huge, have great quality lounges and the towel service as well as pool side drinks and snack service is very good and prompt. I found the entire staff to be professional, well trained and most tuned in to customer service with a smile. Beachside massage kiosks were available and were good at a reasonable cost. Our rooms were not readily available when we arrived (we were early) however the desk person quickly and professionally had our bags stored, invited us to explore the resort a bit, have lunch and return. We returned to find that we had been upgraded to center suites overlooking the ocean and all our bags had been delivered to the suites and an assistant waiting to show us to our rooms. How good it that!!!! There is much to do from the site if one wishes, parasailing, jet skiing, pool lounging, horseback riding, sailboating, snorkeling, deep sea fishing. The evening entertainment is somewhat amateur but cute and a free resort amenity. The town of Los Cabos is a 7 minute cab ride and is a fun little place to tour daytime for shopping and nighttime clubbing. We were a group of 5, three adults and 2 older teenagers. This trip was a favorite of our teenagers. More>

While we enjoy the resort accommodation, food and location in general, we keep having difficulty with its recreational facilities, namely tennis courts. We are a family of 5, all tennis players. The resort, both Riu Palace and Riu Santa Fe boast having excellent tennis courts. Riu Palace courts are very bumpy and one of the protective meshes, fallen August 2015, is still lying in the corner so the electric glare from the hotel up the road prevents you from seeing anything in the early evening hours (the only time to play in Cabo in the summer). As customers of the upscale Riu Palace, we are entitled to use the Riu Santa Fe facilities. Their courts' surface is more even, but there we have been experiencing great problems with lighting and, unfortunately, with administration that has been increasingly unhelpful and yesterday truly unbearably rude. We always book our courts in advance, so upon arrival to Santa Fe courts we stop by at the front desk to ask to turn the courts' lights on. This time the shift supervisor told us he has to check the schedule first, if indeed we do have the courts booked (!);after that he said he did but it took us two more trips from the courts to the front desk to remind him to do so. When the lights went off 20 minutes prior to the end of our booking we ,had to go see the supervisor again... to no avail. I went there yet again and bumped again into this supervisor who was extremely annoyed by that time. When I asked why he did not turn the lights back on he barked: "YOU -QUIET!YOU ARE FROM PALACE - GO THERE!" which definitely made me so. At beautiful resorts like Riu you expect patience and understanding; you dread incidents like the one we had last night. We have come back to Riu Palace twice before but this might be our last time here. Needless to say if it comes to recommending this hotel to anyone - I might not do that any longer. More>

I'm going to have to give this one a three due to the fact dinner is sub par. Breakfast and lunch are outstanding. Also the rooms are very clean the maids work very hard to keep everything mopped and cleaned up. I also enjoyed the fact that security kept outsiders out and felt very safe here. The beach is very nice and clean however the waves are too strong to go into the water if you want to go into the water walk down the beach and there's an area that you can actually go swim in. Beware there are tons of vendors. I was approached every time I walk down the beach if I wanted a seniorRita marijuana or cocaine by some shady characters. Remember when you stay at this resort cab ride is $14 into town each way gets fairly expensive if you want to go out and explore. I was informed that the cabbies have a monopoly and they will not negotiate that price. Another reason I gave this a three and 94 each night we had drunk people in the hallways yelling and screaming at 1 AM 2 AM and 3 AM with no security to quiet them down. Other than that we had a real nice time very clean place and I would definitely recommend going there with a group of people and have a great time. More>

Excellent hotel, excellent staff, excellent room, but don't plan on swimming in the ocean.

We went here of my wife's 40th birthday. We went to RIU Playacar in Playa Del Carmen for spring break, so I am basing this review off of these 2 All Inclusive experiences. The hotel is amazing, every aspect of it is first class. Very grand and fancy. The pools and swim up bars are amazing. The food was typical of an all inclusive. Better than what we had at Playacar, but still your typical buffet. Our room was very nice. It did not seem dated at all. The ocean is pretty much unswimmable, unless you go down to the public beach. Tropical storm Javier visited us during our stay, so that made it even worse. Even with the storm we had a great time. Great drinks, new friends, and wonderful evenings. They are closing this hotel to refurbish the entire property. It's a shame, we really liked the styling it has now. More>
