Not terrible but not awesome either.

Just got back from a 4 night stay with my husband. First, you can't go wrong with Aruba... It's sunny and warm and the people are friendly! Our stay at the Riu was.... ok. We wanted an all inclusive so we weren't pulling out our wallets every five minutes but the all inclusive options are limited in Aruba. We went with the Riu hoping for the best. The rooms are average... And look a little worn. Everything in our room felt damp even with the air conditioning on full blast. The floors were slippery and our clothes in the closet were damp. But whatever.... chalk it up to ocean air, humidity, etc. The food....yea, not so good. The breakfast buffet was wonderful....had more than enough options and food was hot and plentiful. Everything else was blah. The lunch seemed like cafeteria food, at best. Dinners all tasted the same and weren't hot. Portions at dinner were tiny. The Japanese restaurant.... I'm not even sure what the sushi was and our server couldn't even tell us. The soup was inedible and smelled like dead fish. The dessert was....interesting. On our last night at the hotel we went off property for dinner to avoid another meal of the same old, room temperature, cafeteria food. Room service menu had like 6 things on it. Absurd. And the 24 hour snacks never changed. Nachos, popcorn, and weird sandwiches. I can't imagine spending more than 4 nights there.... Because the food would send me over the edge. Otherwise, the staff was friendly, pool and beach were great. Drinks were good But served in tiny plastic cups so you spent a lot of time going back and forth to the bar. If you are a food lover....and great food is high on your list of vacation must haves... Skip this hotel.

Fantastic Holiday But Windy!!

Travelled to Aruba in June. I had read about the trade winds but oh boy....its windy! However on that note, it's a blessing as it's very hot and the wind was more than welcome....take lots of hair clips!! Hotel staff lovely, very courteous, polite & overall very welcoming!! Loved our time in this hotel, the food was really good. We preferred the restaurants for table service and tried them all on more than one occasion but really can't fault the buffet either! We both had such a great time in the lobby bar, Aya is such a gem with so many wonderful stories.....thank you for spending time with us when you weren't too busy! The entertainment in the hotel was pretty good to be fair although didn't see many acts, pirate show was brilliant! We met so many wonderful, friendly people on this holiday which along with the hotel really made our time there special!! Great job everyone! If you fancy a great day out then hire a jeep to go up to the natural pool, do some off-road driving and explore the island....long day but brilliant fun!

A fantastic hotel and location.

Firstly do not worry about the weather. We reviewed the weather for weeks leading up to our stay.It is likely you will see the weather say it's cloudy...makes no odds at all as it's always sunny. The clouds are visible but in no way does it impact on the heat.We went between mid and end of September for two weeks and it was awesome. Great location with a wonderful beach and the sea is so warm...so to the beach so watch you don't burn the soles of your feet. The pool is great but the sun loungers don't offer a lot of shade...not a bad thing but be warned as you will burn if not careful. Tip for the beach is to get out early with a towel....anytime between 7.00am-7.30am is ideal. The staff are so friendly and mostly speak English, always clean and tidy tablecloths, excellent service in restaurants and bars. The buffet restaurant is phenomenal and a high quality of food. All of the other themed restaurants are excellent and in particular the Japaneese is brilliant. The bars are great and make sure to ask for Jack Daniels bourbon or Tanqueray Gin, or else they will give local spirits. The rooms are brilliant and cleaned daily, with a 4 bottle optics and fridge full of beers and soft drinks daily...plus three litres of water.I would challenge anyone to pick fault with this hotel. It's clean and modern and staff are always tidying in the gardens and the room cleaners are lovely. It's the only place I would ever stay in Aruba. Outside of the complex it's safe and there is a local bus to Orangestaad for 6 euros one way per couple. But walk into the local town of Noord and it's excellent for food and drink plus some shopping.Thankyou Riu our stay was wonderful. Simon & Dina

Very Nice Hotel

Spent a week here and loved every moment of it! Marshall at the front desk during my late check in was very nice. It was notated in their system that it was my Fiances 40th birthday and we were put in building B on the 9th floor room 924. Just what I was hoping for!! When entering the room, there were 2 nice letters of a welcome back and Happy Birthday along with a magnet and a piece of chocolate cake with the writing of Happy Birthday on the plate! I thought this was so awesome of the RIU to do this. Awesome view and nice big balcony space. We loved every moment! The staff at the pool bar were awesome as well. Made us feel comfortable being there. A few to name were Kessi, Raul, Javier and forgot the rest but all were great!! The buffet greeters Taanya and the other lady(sorry forgot her name) were so polite and very friendly. Coming from Los Angeles, you don't get much of that! There was 1 person though who didn't meet the excellence like the other staff we came across. He was the guy in the buffet, not sure if Juan is his name. He has tattoos on his left and right arm and he was always waiting on the tables near the back right side of windows as you enter main doors of buffet area He took a long while to ask if we wanted any drinks as the tables that just got occupied after us were asked for drinks, so I had to ask for coffee ourselves. He didn't give us a good vibe especially when he gestured to another lady worker to perhaps pick up our finished plates and she comes to our table kind of of laughing, so it perceives us to think that they were laughing at us. So we chose not to sit in his area the rest of our eating time there at the buffet. On the other hand, Luis was exceptional! Always tipped him because of his great customer service. I saw it in all the tables he was serving, all the guests enjoyed him! The food is good. Different theme nights nightly. Loved the steakhouse. Had birthday balloons on our door on the day of her birthday with another mini cake delivery. The staff bringing us our waters and beer almost daily upon our request...thank you!!! We never had to wait long when I called down at the desk. Yes the umbrella huts(Palapas) are mostly all taken in the morning but there are a few left, just have to look around. Never had an issue with getting a lounge chair and pulling it out to the beach closer to the water. Beach is beautiful. Shows are nice. Nice pool activities and entertainment staff. Thank you to Billie in the sports bar for his kindness and making us coffee in the morning. Thank you RIU Palace Aruba for a great time here!!

Great resort! You never have to leave!

This is a beautiful and fun resort, not perfect but could be! The rooms are beautiful, spacious and immaculate. All of the grounds are kept perfectly. I recommend a room on a higher floor for a better view and so you can't hear the music from the pool. The location is great, it's walking distance from some restaurants, souvenir stands and a little market for essentials. The staff is just the absolute best. Everyone is incredibly friendly and hardworking. We saw the same people at 11pm and 7am the next morning, and both times they were smiling! We only ate at the buffet. And there was definitely enough variety there. Breakfast has everything you could imagine. For lunch there are two buffets or sometimes they also have bbq served by the pool. For dinner the buffet has theme nights, we were there for a Spanish, Mexican and seafood night. The pool and beach are gorgeous. The entertainment is a lot of fun. Some cons for us. You have to request brand liquor, won't be top shelf but better than what they regularly serve. I didn't at first and it made me sick. The entertainment. The staff is WONDERFUL! However, it is SO LOUD you can't even hear the waves when you are on the beach. If they just turned it down two notches so you could choose when you wanted to hear it, it would be perfect. Also, even though it seemed like most guests were American/Canadian/British, almost all of the music was Spanish. It would have been nice to have a better mix. We heard some more American music at Antillas but they stuck the band into such a small sitting area there wasn't any room for us. The palapa situation, the usual situation. I know this is common at these resorts. We woke up at 7:30am and still were only able to grab one of the last ones. Overall, it is a great place and I would recommend it! If I return to Aruba, I will be looking for a place that's a little more low key.
