Arriving at the Aruba Airport (transportation)
TIMOTHY B.
Apr 09 2018
So upon arrival we were told as always, "look for the Apple representative in the floral shirts". We've had excellent service with Apple vacations before. In the Aruba airport there are not "apple representatives". We asked "funjet" where the Apple Reps were and they responded "outside - yellow shirts" but....it's called DePalm Tours Aruba. We were leary to go on this bus thinking it was something else but they said "yes apple, youre good", so we and others got on the bus. A little confusing but yes they did get us to our hotel. In the hotel instead of an "Apple vacations desk", it was DePalm Tours. We did book an excursion thru them and also they did give us our transportation back to the airport. No problems at all, just confusion as to why there were no "apple floral shirts", yellow banana shirts.

Riu Palace was an excellent choice. Close to restaurants and shopping. Everyone was so kind. Food was delicious! Only complaint beds are very hard and not enough restrooms close to beach and pool.

I understand that shit happens and this time it was the weather conditions. No biggie. We can not control the weather so its understandable. What my issue was this time was the Riu Palace Aruba Resort and De Palms Tours. First the agent Geordina Vrolijk who was the lady sitting at the De Palms desk at the Rui, was completely rude to us. She was arguing with someone on the phone and made us wait at least 5 minutes and also miss our first bus because of the issues we were having. But the way things turned out then its a good thing we missed the bus. Second when we did speak with her, she was demanding that we get on the next bus cause her butt would be on the line. Even though our flight was delayed like 8 hours. Then when we tried to ask her what we should do all she said was to figure it out and then get on the bus with our ticket. She acted like we were an inconvenience to her and she didn't want to bother with us at all. Thirdly i went to go talk to her after our flight had been canceled She was again on the phone arguing with someone and had put her sign up on the desk that said "closed". this was around 3:20 PM. I then said screw it and walked away. After i walked away form her desk i then went over to the check in desk at the Riu to see if they had a room for one night that we could have and was pretty much dismissed. The guy told me "No, We are completely booked. You will have to go else where. " He then said maybe the Riu next door has some availability to go see them" and I was dismissed. Now, We are stuck in Aruba with no room and our flight was still unknown at that time. I was angry, stressed and just worn out. We have went to the Riu Twice now and should have been three times but the first time was the fire. and we had planned on coming back next year"2019" and I was amazed on how they weren't even trying to help us out. I was so pissed off I then told Patric go to next hotel over "Divi Resorts" to see what they can do for us. They tried earlier in the week to get us to stay with them next time but at that time we told them "no, we like the Riu". Well, I was not happy with the Riu so he walked over to Divi Resorts and explained our situation. They gave us a room for just the cost of the taxes. $40 And was going to have it ready for us in 1 hour. Divi helped us and the Riu didn't want to bother with us. Another thing I want to mention is the the Riu needs to improve on the beds. They are hard as a rock and the pillows are flat.

We had made our reservation in the adult only but when we arrived we were put in family (which was fine) I did wonder if there was a price difference. The coupons are a joke may be in your letter don't stress so much that you give a credit for $600.00-$700.00 credit to use at resort. We wanted to have a couples spa day and the coupon was $50.00 for the most expensive couples spa. Talking to other guests no one really used the coupons and were not impressed with the coupons. For the music at the pool maybe so english music every once in a while. All in all we loves the Rui and was very pleased with the staff.

Beautiful View, Friendly Workers, Great Food

My daughters and I stayed at this hotel on our recent trip to Aruba. This hotel met and exceeded all my expectations. We were fortunate to be upgraded to an ocean view junior suite and boy, did the view wow us every day of our visit. This is a great hotel to stay at with kids. They have activities every day by the pool and at night, the entertainment is terrific. We always were able to get a lounge chair by the pool, but if you wanted a palapa on the beach, you needed to get their early and stake your claim. They offer free water activities - kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and floats with ID. The food at the hotel was really good. From the buffet to the 4 on-site restaurants. We tried them all. The only issue with the on-site restaurants was that the food was not kid-friendly. So, I would recommend just doing the buffet. The staff on-site at the hotel were super friendly and spoke English very well. I had been at another Riu hotel in Cancun, but this one was far superior. Highly recommend, especially if you have children.

No negative review from me!
MARILYN M.

Prior to my trip,I encountered some really negative reviews regarding rooms smelling musty, fish being bad,and not to eat it. All I can say is this vacation was one of the best I've been on. I was impressed with the food. Everything was delicious, including the seafood, and I had no stomach issues eating at any of the restaurants. Either did my husband. Our room was gorgeous, and very large and comfortable. There was no musty odor in our room,as stated in a review on Trip Advisor. The bathroom was quite spacious, and clean. Only negative there was the need for a better hair dryer. The one on the wall had no power to it. I also would like to commend the person who thought to include magnifying mirrors for those of us who need one to put makeup on. I would like to suggest that a clock be put in the room,on the nightstand, so you could see what time of the day it is. Outside at pools and beach, there was reserving of chairs and tiki huts with towels, obviously done early in am, making it difficult to secure something shaded on beach or at the pool. Other than that, you'd be crazy not to try the RIU!

Windy Aruba

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Aruba staying at the rui palace hotel aruba. Can not fault the hotel very clean staff lovely room very nice with a lovely see view food good could always find something nice to eat. Entertainment ok but repeats second week. We never had to wait long at any of the bars as there was always plenty of staff around. You do have to get up before the birds if you want a sunshade on the beach. Our only complaint was that it was extremely windy for the whole 2 weeks which we did not expect.but it was still very hot so at times the wind did help but must say was a most enjoyable holiday

We have recently returned from two weeks in Aruba staying at the Riu Palace. We had no issues during that time. The food is of a high standard bearing in mind that it is mass produced with plenty of choice. We ate most of the time in the a la carte restaurants as the ambience is much calmer than the hustle and bustle of the main buffet restaurant. The Krystal and the Japanese were the favourites. We only ever had to wait for the steakhouse. The staff are very friendly from the waiters to the front desk. The only downside to Aruba is the wind which is obviously not a fault of the hotel but you do get used to it and it does help to keep the heat down. Overall we had a brilliant time and would definitely recommend this hotel.

I really enjoyed my stay at RIU Aruba. When I first arrived there was a mix up with my room. They were able to get it corrected the following afternoon. The staff overall is friendly and welcoming. All the food I had was delicious. Although they ran out of some food items on our last day. They were waiting on a shipment we were told. Overall a good experience.

First let me start off by saying, don't believe everything you read here. I was questioning whether I made the right choice or not by reading the reviews. Some people must be extremely picky if they could not find something to enjoy at the Riu Palace Aruba. We made a great choice. From the time we arrived to the day of departure, staff were friendly and welcoming and made our stay very enjoyable (yes, there were 5% that weren't but hey, 95% of those we encountered were great!!). The bar staff were quick and made you a strong drink if you asked for it! Quite a few times our drink orders were remembered by the bartender so there was no wait. The dining staff were friendly. Always refreshing your water or clearing your table (note: only beer and wine are served in the dining venues). There was more than enough food to choose from. If you couldn't find something to eat, you had to be extremely picky. My only negative comments, 1) put out salad dressings that are not creamy. A vinaigrette or two would have been nice and 2) coffee was terrible but that is my opinion. Hubby and I enjoyed every meal in the main buffet. We never ate at the specialty restaurants. The activities staff really worked their butts off. There was always something going on by the pool and the nighttime shows were entertaining too. The resort was so clean and staff were always working to keep it that way. The pool, beautiful! Never had a problem getting chairs by the pool or a shaded spot either. The beach was nice too. Yes, you do have to be up by 5:00 AM to get a palapa on the beach and those that save them and aren't there by 10:00 AM should have their "place holders" removed. Only negative here is that there is no drink service on the beach. All other hotels offer it so don't know why the Riu doesn't. We brought insulated cups which worked great to keep our drinks cool and perfect for the beach. The housekeeping staff kept our room immaculate. We had a junior suite ocean view in the main building. Wow! What a view. Well worth the extra $. Rooms were spacious. Nice drying rack on the balcony for our wet suits. Bed was comfy and pillows were small but not a problem. Bathroom was huge! Shower was great. Our mini fridge was well stocked everyday. The minibar liquors were Bacardi, Smirnoff, Johnny Walker Red and a Cognac. So if you don't like those, pick up a bottle at the airport for your room. Plenty of space to unpack your clothes (Note: bring a business card to keep in the light switch by the mini bar. The AC will shut off if there is no card in the holder. Yes, housekeeping will lift the card up when they leave but you can put it back down after. This kept our room cool and it kept the humidity down in there too). You are a short walk from a shopping center or you can walk the beachfront boardwalk all the way down to the Holiday Inn. There are many great spots to shop or grab a bite to eat. We did a snorkel tour on the Mi Dushi. It was so much fun and the snorkeling was great. We had a few cloudy days but hey, we're on vacation and we still hung out by the pool. It is very windy too! Hats blow off very easily so use a headband. We had a great time at the Riu Palace Aruba and would go back again. It was a wonderful week of rest and relaxation, just what we were looking for.

Loved the hotel the food I thought was terrible always cold whether you ate at the restaurants or the buffet. As for the entertainment there was always something to do which was great but the music was mostly Spanish music and there are not all Spanish speaking people there. There were many English speaking people and when they would start with the Spanish music which was every night the place would clear out. I don’t think they should just cater to Spanish speaking people. I really find it offensive and rude. The beach was beautiful the pool is great and the service was superb.
