A late booking with Thomson/TUI to Aruba. 787 dreamliner proved very comfortable. Service (in economy) was as good as many full service airlines. Drinks service and main meal (no choice unless pre-ordered) was perfectly adequate. Small cream tea prior to landing. Good seat back entertainment system. The Riu Palace Antillas ('4 star plus') was geared-up for our influx and there was no waiting. We found that our generously proportioned and clean 12th floor room had a brilliant sea view (sunset included) with the tidy pool area below us. From our first foray into the main buffet restaurant the service was attentive and hard to fault. It had almost passed unnoticed on booking that this was an 'adults only' hotel but that proved very relaxing. The 'all inclusive' label even encompassed optics in the bedroom with the 4 main alcoholic spirits and a fridge full of water, mixers, soft drinks and beer. The a la carte restaurants proved to have space each time we visited but we understand that when very busy they operate a timed 2 sitting regime. The food was all impeccable with attentive but never over-familiar service. The whole hotel ethos is service-oriented, with smiling, helpful staff which proved very acceptable and relaxing. A problem with our room safe was dealt with within 10 minutes! The pool area was well managed with sunbeds always available. The splendid white sand beach is just feet away. The adjacent sister Riu Palace Hotel's facilities (apparently 5 star) are also available to Antillas guests... but we were very content where we were. Probably our best overall holiday experience so far. One complaint: no perforations in the soft toilet rolls!

Ok here is my review of this resort. The check in process was a breeze and I was taken straight up to my room Junior suite. I had a side view of the ocean which at sunset was an amazing view from the 9th floor. the room was okay in size and the only thing I would say and agree with the other reviews is that the tub is very out dated they did put nice tiles and a awesome showerhead but they need to fix the actual tub. The food was very food especial the Steak house (no reservations needed for any restaurants), the buffet offered great food as well. No complaints on the food, now the drinks were all to sweet and couldn't taste the liquor unless you asked for a double shot. Jonathan K was a great bartender by the pool cute to. I do suggest you bring your own drink tumbler and fill that everybody does it I just wish I had mines. Everybody reserves their spots at the pool early and all the huts are taken by 8 am at the beach. I only have 3 cons: they do not bring drinks to the beach area so you have to go back and forth for drinks all other resorts I have stayed at offered this service. And I asked for a late checkout since my flight left at 5:00 pm - checkout is at 12 noon they said they could only extend it to 1:00 pm and I had to pay 20.00 in order to have a late checkout. And the resort is in a isolated area with no stores around you need to take a cab to go shopping or to see stores. Unlike the Holiday Inn I stayed at they had stores and bars right across the street. All in all Aruba is beautiful.

Aruba fantastic..... Hotel could of been

Just returned from 2 weeks in the Riu Antillas, staff warm and friendly, food was good plenty of choice! Sun lounger situation on beach and around pool is ridiculous unless your up at 6.30 to bag a good spot it's a case of take what's available, and even then people decide to take your parasols...your on vacation I don't want to be up at 6.30 am!! We had an oceanfront suite the views were amazing, the bed was comfortable once you got over the hard ridge on the outside of the mattress, pillows were flat and too soft, we asked for more and we got two more flat pillows!!! Rooms are dated and shabby, air con is a bit hit and miss, ladies take your own dryer as the ones they provide are hopeless, cleaning staff are brilliant and work hard. We did a couple of tours the one to discover Aruba would have been brilliant if we actually spent some quality time in certain areas, avoid baby beach dirty and not sure what the highlight was as I couldn't see it!!! We had a night at the Renaissance resort and did the flamingo island the next day, it was brilliant and well worth the money. The late check out is a joke $20 dollars per hour and only do it on the day of check out it should be offered as an extra whilst booking, would I stay here again..... probably but wouldn't put down the money I did for this vacation!!!

Great Vacation

We came here for our 25th anniversary and had a wonderful time. This is not our first stay at a Riu and will not be our last. The drinks, the pool, the beach, and the food were all top notch. Our room was nice and spacious with two balconies overlooking the ocean. The only complaint would be that a cleaning crew cleaned the carpet in the hallways and did not get things dried properly I assume. The was a funk as soon as you walked out of your room. Luckily it did not come in our room. Highly recommend any Riu in any location you want to travel. Aruba is beautiful. More of a desert island. Most of the tropical vibe is found on the properties and the rest of the island is more desert like with dry scrub like terrain.
