Holiday to relax

First of all I would like to say Aruba is paradise!! We stayed at the Rui adults only which was supposed 4*, 5* when we arrived!!.. I payed for a room upgrade through Thomson's what a waste of £1600 we were supposed to be ground floor sea view! Ground floor started on the 5th floor so we was always lift surfing for 16 days!! If you have been to Mexico and especially stayed at the Rivera excellence hotels or the palace hotels the rooms are 4 and 5* ... The rooms are so outdated and our air conditioning broke and soaked everything one night! The room service consists of approx 4 items, if you like salad!! Bars shut at 10:30 every night , you have to go to what we named greggs to get a beer and hotdog!!.. Mini bar is the worst I've seen!!. We left 10 dollars everyday so we could get what we want stocked in the fridge the spirits were locked in a cabinet which I've never seen before!!... and if you didn't like what's on offer tough basically!!... I paid 6k for this holiday for me and my wife and felt hard done by!!.. we had to ask for toilet rolls and they kept on putting in half a toilet roll(weird).. Toiletries which we didn't need but were never replenished until we asked and when I started leaving 10 dollers on the bed then service on changing the bed and so forth was done properly... The lego soap bar wasn't renewed until the second week, and the his and her sinks as soon as you had a wash they filled up and lettuce came up lol! The TVs in the living room had a mind of its own and kept on switching it self off and turning on., several times we went out and forgot to pull the front door to and was open when we got back as you had to slam the door due to swelling, wasn't good hearing everyone coming in at 3am, and if you put the do not disturb sign on the door and thankfully the latch across they still tried getting in your room every hour when you was trying to relax.... You also have a percolator coffee machine with dry powder sachet's and only give you 1 packet a day!!! Pay 5 dollar tip you get plenty and they will not empty pot and leave coffee filter in percolator... (See photos of room) The upside!! The staff make that hotel, they are amazing and a real credit to the hotel!! The food is amazing and fresh, my wife is so fussy and she didn't stop eating, the only thing is the steak house at night only does 30 covers and you have to cue from 6pm to get a table which I couldn't understand for the life of me!!.. The bars opened at 10 am every morning and the pool bar staff are amazing, tip the guys a few dollars and they are awesome but they do it for the love of seeing people enjoy themselves.. Chong and to many to name are awesome!! The breakfast team and restaurant teams cannot do enough for you and tend your every need!! If you need anything it's never to much and go and meet Freddy and his team in the reception bar, Freddy and his team cannot do enough for you and it makes it so pleasurable over the other problems!!... What I will say aswell you can leave anything in your rooms From mobiles to money to cameras and it would never be touched! I left our safe open several times by accident and left money on the side and not a penny was touched, it wasn't until I told the cleaner that the 10 dollars I left on the bed was for her she kept putting on my bedside table... The entertainment wasn't all that! During the day they played the same songs and felt like sometimes it was an 21-30 holiday!! We went to the pier and into the town where all the clubs were and had a fantastic time and you are so safe, the locals even offer you lift home.. Be aware that with every holiday destination illegal products are on offer but they do not harness you and when in clubs especially the open air ones there is security but believe me I was happy with me and my wife walking around at 3 in the morning half cut! Several times I left our Bag with phones, cards and wallet and money and had to back and the staff put behind the bar and untouched! Amazing!! Aruba is expensive outside the complex's but always barter and never go to the main town when the cruise ships are in as they put the prices up! But you have to remember everything is imported there as they are such a small island.. If you stay at the Rui sun beds are reserved by people at 5:30 in the morning couldn't believe it to be honest? But if you are booking excursions see the boys directly as you head to the beach in the shack as you leave the hotel at the rear literally 100 yrds they are brilliant see (Rasta pasta we named him) always up for a deal and can arrange anything! But if you are diving go to the lady in the ground floor she does a 2 tank dive for 90 dollars and diving the antilla wreck was amazing and that includes equipment refreshments and food!! You have to to do the evening cruise and watch the sunset ( a photo will be added for you to see). All in all we had a fantastic holiday and our only disappointment was the rooms were shocking ( was told they having a refurb) and the entertainment was not good and the bars closed so early and the night club on site was just acceptable but opened an hour after the rest shut and room service menu and mini bar... The staff make that hotel and you will not be disappointed with there service and help and the buffet food is amazing and plentiful to cater all tastes... Would I go back again, yes but a different hotel as when I looked at standard junior suites they were actually better! Also sea view can also look at the roof or the Rui family hotel next door, which upon speaking to people nobody had a bad word to say.... This hotel should be a 2* maybe a 3* maximum, but I can't express myself enough the staff are amazing and make that hotel they are so dedicated, also the onsite shops are so expensive £7 for a box of pringles and 52 dollars for a Cuban cigar (single) go the pier or the club town 13 dollars!! A can of coke £4 and for a plastic £1 cup with straw you can buy from Poundland the on site shop wanted 42 dollars and went to Aruba club bit and bought one for 8 dollars just so you didn't have to keep going back to the bars every 2 mins with your quarter plastic cup!!... Overall amazing holiday with disappointment's oh! And take towel pegs with you as you will be chasing your towel everywhere and if you smoke invest in a wind proof lighter before you go... see photos of good and bad, hope this was helpful but can honestly say it is paradise but wrong hotel but made better by the staff..

True paradise that could use an upgrade

I had an absolutely amazing time. I would definitely go back again. Service was really really good. Rooms need to be upgraded for the price being paid, after hours snack options need to be different each night. I loved that there were no kids on the resort, so I didn't have to eat with them, be bothered with them in the resort or pool. Their are other resorts on both sides so unfortunately they are just yards away on the beach, but I didn't have much of an issue. All of my excursions were adult only and they did keep them push off on their sides. Most days everything was amazingly clean except Sunday. The swim up bar pool was filthy. I had to find a pool attendant to tell them there was vomit in the pool and they didn't seem to care or have any urgency to get it cleaned up.

Such a shame but this hotel is not five star

What wonderful people, marvellous food, impeccable service, perfect weather, let down by the hotel building and rooms needing updating and refurbishment. I have been to many of the Caribbean islands, and in my opinion this one is best by far. Rui, you need to make your customers aware of the rooms requiring refurbishing, and until then it is really only three star, given four stars because the people make it so good. The management and everyone deserve praise.

My husband and I booked the Riu Palace Aruba through CheapCarribean.com, however as soon as we arrived we were told that the hotel had overbooked and the would have to stay at their sister hotel next door--the Riu Palace Antilles. We were justifiably disappointed and angry. That's like ordering steak in a restaurant and being served hamburger--just because they ran out! We had no choice but to follow the bellhop over to the sister hotel, which is older and needs some updating. Yet, the front desk staff could not have been nicer and upbeat. We were given a comparable room, which was clean and spacious (bathroom needs updating, but clean and water pressure in the shower was perfect). Management called within the first 20 minutes to apologize about the hotel switch and to make sure we were comfortable. We made the best of the situation and actually LOVED this hotel. Beautiful pool area with a friendly staff who kept sunbathers happy with water aerobics and dancing lessons. The beach is just stunning.Clean, clear water and lots of shaded coverings. Although, its true. People do claim chairs and palm trees early in the day and it can be tough to get a shaded spot, but we managed every day with the help of staffers who set us up with loungers and drinks. The food is plentiful and delicious, no matter your dietary needs. The dinner buffet had carving stations, fresh fruit bar, salad bar, appetizer stations, etc. So many options that we decided to eat there two evenings, rather than fight for a spot at one of the a la carte restaurants. We did eat at the steak place and the Krystal and the service was white-glove elegant. Food was served in a leisurely manner, wine flowed and the settings were romantic. There was a lot to do -- kayaking, snorkeling, bingo at the bar and lively entertainment each night. We also shopped downtown, via a taxi right outside the hotel. Getting back was just as easy, and quick picking up a taxi in the lobby of the beautiful upscale mall. So, the trip started off rocky, but turned out beautifully --- AND, the best part: Riu Palace Aruba gave us a voucher for a free, 4 night stay through July 2018 to compensate for the hotel mix up, and this was offered to us before we even had a chance to complain. As they say, Aruba, one happy island!

Pure paradise

This resort was the paradise I have been looking for! Great food and friendly staff throughout the resort. If you can upgrade the room location to the oceanfront or on the corners of the oceanfront is definitely worth a little extra charge! The grounds were kept clean and the rooms were very nice. We stayed a week and could have stayed another week easily! Will be back!!
