Great food and staff!

We loved this resort. Everything about it was absolutely perfect. We loved it so much we just booked a get away to the Riu palace Bavaro. The buffets were too notch. If we had to do it again we would just stick with eating dinner at the buffet.

We booked at the Riu Palace Antilles because of the adults only policy. The building is not as magnificent as the Riu Palace Aruba next door, but we had a wonderfully relaxing holiday. When we arrived April 15, 2018, we asked if a room upgrade would be possible. Genesis at the front desk didn't have an upgrade from the Junior Suite Partial Ocean View, but she did switch us to a higher floor, 17th, which she assured us would give us a better view of the ocean, and she was absolutely correct. I had read many of the reviews here on Trip Advisor, and was therefore prepared for the little imperfections in the room. Yes, I agree, the guest rooms need some TLC, and yes, judging by the rooms, I would not give this hotel 5 stars (see photos attached): Chipped and broken tiles, water damage in the ceiling, broken exterior handle on the balcony door, toilet flush that one had to jiggle to stop the water running, dresser drawers that did not align to close properly. However, if I had to judge from the public areas and from the service level of the staff, I would have to say that the resort is indeed 5 stars. The work ethic of the staff, from housekeeping right through to wait staff in the dining rooms, was absolutely remarkable! There seemed to be no hierarchy, with hostesses and supervisors pitching in when demand was high. Absolutely everyone greeted us with a smile, first thing in the morning or at the second sitting for dinner. We never once encountered the least bit of attitude, and each time we made a request (for an extra blanket or bath robes that had been forgotten, for example), it was taken care of immediately, as if we were the only guests in the hotel. At times, I would just sit in the breakfast room, observing the swirl of staff activity around me, every staff member working as part of a team to clear tables, change linens, set places, deliver coffee. I admire the management of the hotel for being able to foster this team spirit in their very large staff complement. Breakfast and dinners were very good indeed. Lunches tended to become a bit more one note, but when an institution is preparing food for over 400 guests every day, repetition must be expected. The Cappuchino (sic) Lounge was a wonderfully relaxing place to get a latte or capuccino after dinner, and the young barristas tending the espresso machines were very friendly and helpful. Whether we had drinks by the pool or a coffee in the lounge, no one hung about as if they were expecting a tip. Whenever we offered something to acknowledge the exceptional service, the staff were discretely gracious, but they treated tippers and non-tippers the same: all were guests of the hotel. We spent 8 incredible days at the Riu Antillas, and would return, given our positive experience.

The owners of this resort should be ashamed of themselves. Every employee is kind, always smiling, and trying their best to please every customer. The food at every restaurant is cooked to perfection, the pool activities are fun, and the place is kept clean all the time. However, this place is in need of renovation. The ceiling was peeling and hanging in the bathroom, the balcony door lock was broken and maintenance had to keep coming to tighten the lock, and the mattress was terrible. Loved the service from every employee! Thank you all for an amazing vacation.

Great relaxing trip!

We just returned from a 6 day trip from Riu Antilles and had an absolutely amazing time. The resort was very clean and the staff was very friendly, upbeat and smiling. The beach was beautiful and well kept. The pool was always jamming whether it was water Zumba/pool games in 1 pool or fun bartenders in the other, everyone seemed to be having fun and entertained. The food was great and the buffet had a wide selection to choose from. Our room was clean and the fridge was always reatocked. Thank you for a great timeWe will definitely be returning in the future!!

Definitely not a 5 star hotel

This was our first trip to Aruba. It was pretty, blue skies, blue waters and beautiful beaches. The people were friendly. It was nice to be able to walk freely and feel safe. We took the public bus to town and had no issues (bring correct change, tho)!! As for the hotel, we were disappointed. We paid the same price in Jamaica and DR and the rooms, service, food and liquor were much better at both of those locations. My husband likes Crown Royal and Coke and they didn't have any Crown Royal. So, he asked for a Jack Daniels and Coke and some of the hotel bars didn't have Jack Daniels or told him "go to that bar" and they should have it. When it is all inclusive why are we chasing down our drink of second choice? Also, their pina colada, daiquiri, etc., came from a slushie machine! They were terrible, I'm on a tropical island, why are these not made from fresh fruit etc?? We didn't care for the fact that no reservations were taken for the specialty restaurants. I'm on vacation, I don't want to stand in line and wait for a table. I can do that at home. I would like to see them take reservations. For this reason, we ate at the buffet each evening. The food was good, but did lack variety. Seems like the menu repeated itself . Once again, on a tropical island, and they served fish but not lots of other seafood, crab legs, shrimp etc. We stayed in the Villas as they called them. This area has a private pool. We didn't get much drink service. Also, the pool deck and chairs were dirty and sticky. There was bird droppings on the chairs. You had to be careful which chairs you picked. All it would take is a good power washing on the deck and chairs to remedy this problem. All the pools were a little chilly for our liking. Most of the guests we talked to felt the same way. Our room was a little dated and the covers on the loveseat cushions were torn and stuffing was popping out. This is an adults only resort which is nice. You can visit the sister resort next door but it is a family resort. We walked over to check it out and it is so much prettier than the adults only. Something we had never experienced before was "towel cards". Only 1 towel per card and had to turn in the towel to get the card back. For the most part, the staff was friendly. Brian, at the front desk, was very nice, friendly and helpful. All of the bellmen were friendly and helpful as well. We attended the evening shows and they were enjoyable. There are some very talented young men and women who are part of the show. We loved that the theater was open. The evening breezes made the show even more enjoyable. Great way to end the evening!! Overall, we enjoyed our stay but for the price and our previous experiences we were a little disappointed. Bring sunscreen and towel clips! The hotel does not provide sunscreen (gift shop-$23) and it can be quite breezy. It was a good vacation, lots of rest, relaxation and sunshine.
