It was all good!
KASSIE S.

I stayed at the RIU Ocho Rios and it was a good trip for my golden 22nd birthday. There were 9 of us 3 to a room the stay was good but the only issue is that we all paid full price and they only gave WIFI Access too two people in the room which really was the down fall of the entire trip as we depend on the wifi. We had to pay an additional $30 which should have been outlined by Apple Vacations when we booked the reservation. Overall the trip was good. There are drivers present 24 hours a day which was good. There was lots of night life and plenty of food/drinks.

I have nothing but positive things to say about my overall experience. From the time we arrived until the time we left everyone was so friendly and accommodating. The resort was clean and the view was absolutely beautiful! The food at every restaurant was delicious, especially the Chinese place where we ate 3 different times.

The hotel premises were not clean enough. Pool was cleaned once during our stay. The main buffet was not open during lunch, and other restaurants didn't have enough space and food variety.

Reverberations in a beach paradise

As an older couple, we planned on being live-in vacationers most of the time. Service and overall food quality were excellent, but the echos in hallways on into the early a.m. hours meant that the comfort level was not what if might have been. We had a great field trip with Sebert, our guide, to a working plantation, and for a younger, more noise tolerant clientele, this trip to Ocho Rios might indeed be just what these folks are looking for.

Really good place. Walk right out your room to 2 nice pools and a huge beach front. Water is very clear. We thought it was well worth the price.

We paid for a upgrade which included more options for dinner which were great, however, the jacuzzi tub that we paid for did not work. We didn't want to bother the hotel staff about the problem, but the room itself was beautiful.

The RUI disappointment

When traveling it's the "little" details that can make or break a nice vacation. To start with, there is a secret about the in-room safe. They don't tell you at check-in that you have to ask for the lock and the key. The room door key is a big metal key that didn't work half the time and the safe key didn't work half the time. No help with luggage when arriving or leaving. They need 4 times more employees to help all the people wandering around trying to figure things out. Standing in line for restrauants isn't fun either. No reservations and there is only one sit-down restrauant we could use. Found out we had the wrong color wrist band to qualify us to eat anywhere else. No pool side service for drinks. The glasses, and in some cases dishes just piled up all day. People were taking pictures of overflowing garbage cans around the pool and on the beach. Which attracted big birds. BUT, the sunshine was great. We discovered the "waiting list game" for restrauants by accident. There is no shampoo or lotion in the rooms and out king bed was 2 double beds made up separately and pushed together. The only restrooms pool side was inside a restrauant and when in an evening restrauant you had to go all the way to the bar and entertainment area. No security guards or management watching staff congregate and talk for hours. On our last morning, witnessed a young family with 3 kids struggling to clean up after a cereal bowl crashed to the floor. A lady from another table handed them some napkins and one server handed that some napkins. The mother went to change and the dad while holding the baby was trying to clean up shards of bowl and oatmeal while the other 2 kids stayed seated. Really? That's unacceptable. My spa treatments were the hi-lite of my 7 days thanks to Diana. We put our towels out and went for breakfast and they were taken. Yet the apple representative told us we didn't need to carry our "keys" around with us. Just leave your stuff on a chair and go do what you want. Never going back to Jamaica.

My stay at riu Ocho Rio

I was not given the ocean room view that I paid for. Instead they gave me a partial ocean view and said this ai all they had at that time. Told me wait until next day. Next day came I was I'll and they wanted me to check out at 12pm and woul d have to wait until 4pm to check back in the liner was dirty and towels were not available until 4pm each day the hotel was under staff and th the facility was not kept clean. The beach had trash and coral reef on the shore. Entertainment was about the only thing that was decent. The food was not a 5 star. Overall I will not be going back to this hotel in the future. I rate this apple vacation hotel and my vacation at a 3. Very disappointed.

Thank you Riu for another great stay!

Third visit in as many years and once again was not disappointed. Stayed in ocean front in deluxe wing which had a beautiful view of the Caribbean, and close enough to enjoy listening to the waves on the beach each night. Close enough to pool, food, and entertainment, but seems distant from the main crowd. Room was clean, no mold or odors (as many others seem to complain about), and housekeeping took great care of it daily. Drinks were restocked adequately though not daily. On the night of the weekly beach party, expect a lot of noise till 11pm (so you might as well join it!) Front desk staff was friendly and quick at check in, and checked up on us during our stay. Really appreciated the friendly staff all over the resort who often go out of their way to stop and talk, or simply ask how your stay is going. They really make the difference, especially the entertainers roaming the beach and pool areas. Food was plentiful at all hours of the day but average at best. No worries though, you will find something you like. Our favorite was seafood night in the main dining area and the jerk chicken hut on the beach. Sir John/Richard restaurants are good but expect a 2-3 hour dinner. Only complaint was the Japanese restaurant never seemed to be opened so unable to try it out. Beach was beautiful and clean. Plenty of shade from the palm trees and lots of lounge chairs. Staff takes great care with cleaning it each morning and throughout the day. Water was warm and the snorkeling out on the reef was great. Seen many fish, a spotted eel, and squid. Depending on what you are looking for, there are two large pool areas, not excellent to hang out at. One is quiet with an infinity pool, the other is noisy and more for the rowdy crowd and entertainment. Lots of places to lounge either in or out of the pool, sun or shade. Both pools also have swim up bars. Towels are available but you need a card to get them. Don’t lose them or you may be hit with a $35 charge at check out. We didn’t bring kids, but resort seems a safe enough place and lots for them to do, and we noticed staff giving them extra attention. There’s a water sports desk on the beach with paddle boats, sail boats, and paddle boards. Think you can also rent snorkel gear and day trips here, but we only used it for scuba diving. Buyer Beware: make sure you get everything in writing and a receipt. Heard complaint from a fellow guest about them demanding more money after using their services. Also, not sure how much you can trust Scuba Caribe personnel peddling on the beach.

House keeping,food, and mold

First of, the staff around site was extremely helpful however housekeeping did not change our bed sheets once but only when we requested. the house keeper we asked to changed our sheets only changed the fitted sheets only and put back the top sheet and blanket, which smelt of damp. Mould took over some of our belongings which we had to leave behind including a pair of vans, a bag and a glasses case, not everyday our mini fridge was restocked nor our mini bar on arrival the bar had half empty bottles of alcohol from previous stay and was never refilled throughout our stay. A CHANGE IN HOUSEKEEPING IS NEEDED. The food at the pizza ( Italian restaurant) was absolutely appalling the food was COLD all the time the drink dispenser was off and then when it was on it stunk and drinks came out cloudy. TV in room for 4 days no signal and nothing done about it. I also feel as though the sports bar needs a good clean as it smells of damp and air-conditioner is way too high, also a change in the popcorn it taste stale the 2 times I've tried it on different occasions. overall I enjoyed my stay due to location and beach. The food I hardly ate because it was extremely bland and simply did not taste good.

A little old fashion, but nice qualities

I was impressed with the front desk at the RIU especially Anna and the guy who checked me in. I received a call from the front desk immediately when I got to my room. They wanted to make sure everything was to my liking. The front desk was also kind enough to remember my birthday. They gave me a cake & a letter saying Happy Birthday( nice gesture no hotel has ever done that & I travel on my birthday frequently...I never told them it was my birthday) They have an Expedia expert & other tour specailist to help with activities. This really comes in handy. The entertainment was spectacular and made my visit even more enjoyable. Now let’s talk about the cons: They need upgrades the tv was older than me & im over 30, they actually gave me a key to my room & safe( who still uses keys) the food was nothing special and could use some variety along with improving the quality. The worse part was the maintenance men stole the tip I left for the maid. They watched me leave with my suitcase and when I returned to the room a few minutes later because i forgot something the tip was gone. I emailed the hotel, but I get the impression they could careless. Despite the things I did not like, I still would recommend this hotel. I would suggest staying in a room with upgrades because the regular rooms smell like mold.

Well i think i was dropped off at the wrong hotel after reading some of the negative comments i read on the reviews of this hotel. Firstly the staff are behond polite they are all lovely and helpful. The food is bang on lots of choices to suit everybody. The hotel and grounds are amazing and certainly not run down!! Loved the gorgeous beach mostly, and the beautiful sea is to die for. The cleanliness of this hotel is top notch, this is the first caribbean country i have been to and not encountered an upset stomach. I did notice holiday makers entering the dinning area's not using the hand gels provided, i found that concerning, please use the hand gel provided to keep everyone safe!! The towels are brown they match the bathroom tiles, they are delivered to you warm fluffy and clean, cannot believe the sad people moaning about the towels. This hotel has alot to offer, very nice people from the house keepers, front desk staff, activitiy leader's, please treat them all with the respect they fully deserve if you are going to this hotel. Absolutely stunning resort, me & the hubby will be back! We stayed from the 25/10/17 till 8/11/17.

Amazing hotel and experience!

I traveled to the Riu Ocho Rios September 14th to 21st 2017. There were a group of us and in my opinion there is nothing about this hotel you will not like. Remember Ocho Rios is about 1.5 hours from the airport so keep that in mind. You travel to the hotel in a comfortable air conditioned bus. The beach is phenomenal it's clean there is a Jerk Hut right on the beach so you don't have to worry about going back and forth for food the food is right on the beach for you. We had 7 Days of pure Sun that is why I love Jamaica because there isn't a lot of rain or hurricanes there. It is quite a big hotel I was in Room 2220 the room is gorgeous clean big bathtub the only thing it didn't have was a lot of pillows but I asked the staff for pillows and a nice gentleman worker brought me extra pillows he also kept the bar stocked in our room. We had four different types of booze in our room and the fridge full of pop and water. The safe has a lock and key not a pin code. Our view was overlooking the pool which was gorgeous! The door to our room had a real key which I actually liked because every time I have a card and it touches my cell phone it gets deactivated and I have to go all the way back down to the lobby to reactivate it. Having a key avoided that. The food in the restaurants... amazing in fact there was so much food there is no way I could have eaten at all. There is something for everyone at the buffet...even in the middle of the night there's the pizzeria that is open for your convenience . After a night out at the Disco this comes in handy hahaha. Also on the beach is the Jerk Hut. Jerk Chicken and rice n peas all afternoon. There are plenty of washrooms all around the resort and the best part is the entire Resort has free WiFi there wasn't any location that I did not have wifi. You won't be disappointed if you book here!!!
