Other reviewers indicated issues, but we had none. The resort has been updated, enjoyed the wifi throughout the resort. The food was good and plentiful, very much variety. All staff were very friendly and eager to please.

Pool closed at 6pm. Everyone on the beach was selling drugs including employees. The food was the worse than anywhere I ever stayed. The excursions we did 4 were not anything like what we were told. Getting in and out of the country was a nightmare.

The hotel was good, but it all depended where you room was. Some of the rooms are a long walk from the pool, bars and restaurants. We had to asked to be moved closer since we were given a room the farthest away from everything. The Apple Rep at the hotel was not friendly or helpful She was often on her phone and not interested in helping us. I don't think there was a benefit of going through Apple Vacations after the treatment we were given.

We are NOT on 7-mile beach as told by our travel agent. It is 3.5 mile away. There was no staff on the beach, no entertainment during the morning, afternoon or evening, unless you wanted to be in the swim up bar pool. If I wanted a drink, I had to walk to the other end of the beach (my drink was melted/gone by the time I got back to my lounge chair) or get in the swim up pool to get a drink. We were at this resort in 2014. They have changed ownership/management and remove the center beach bar. The stench of marijuana, ditch weed was awful! Let me explain. Last time we were there you could smoke any where on the patio as long as there was not a roof above you. They now have two small section in the far back of the patio for smokers (yes, we are all cigarette smokers) and if we wanted to smoke we forced to endure that stench. We complained multiple times to wait staff and they were going to let "manger know, no problem". It was a problem. The stench was in our hair and clothes. Evening entertainment (2014) was actual shows. This time it was nothing but Reggae music and karaoke. Again if you wanted to enjoy the show, have a drink and smoke you had to sit in the stench of marijuana. The only evening entertainment I seen was Monday night they had a beach party, you were bite like crazy on the legs with sand flees, you could not stand it. We spoke to many and they have the same complaints. Friday the maids were in our room and left us no clean linens. I stopped at the front desk to let them know what we needed, "I'll send someone up right a way, no problem". Again, a big problem. I called them 1/2 hour after entering my room "I'll send someone up, no problem" 1 hour later I called and chewed ass. We got those linens the next day, early afternoon. The dinning staff and food was excellent. The best thing about the trip.

We stayed only 4 nites, but it was great. Very relaxing and the grounds are beautiful. We did not get an ocean view (not many the way it’s laid out) but the beach is along the entire property. I found it far to walk between buildings (where rooms are)and the lobby, pool and restaurants. The best restaurant was the Kulinarium...great steaks! Swim up bar in pool was really fun. Transport to and from airport very good but it is an hou and a half to the Montgomery Bayairport. New Years party was great with entertainment...every nite entertainment was exciting and really good. Everyone was so talented and audience participation was fun. Only real negative was you had to claim your pool chair very early in the morning or you were out of luck until late afternoon. Overall, we loved it.

I had a good time during my stay. But I not expect to see so many children there being partially supervised by their parents. All the excursions that I took were really nice. It is a beautiful place to visit.

Full credit to the hotel staff. Very friendly and helpful. Nice and clean rooms and eating and drinking facilities. Would have loved to see more vegetarian options. For an Indian vegetarian, there was only one breakfast and dinner venue and one lunch venue to choose from. Good enough for a 4 day visit. For longer stays, food would become an issue. Tons of choices for non-vegetarian food though.

We've been to many all inclusive resorts in Mexico, Dominican, and Jamaica and this definitely the worst we've ever been to. Pros: - Staff is friendly (except front desk - not even a smile) - Weather was extremely nice - Coffee was delicious Cons: - Beach is not clean, chairs are broken or dirty, sea weed everywhere, weed is sold everywhere and being harassed constantly by someone trying to sell you something unwanted - Rooms are not kept up (draws are broken, bugs everywhere, locks are missing on doors, couch doesn't pull out in junior suite), NO supplies provided except for soap, bring your own shampoo and conditioner (would be great to know ahead of time) - Liquor is sub par, all drinks are watered down, wine is undrinkable, beer is local and ok - No reservations at the restaurants, food is below average, Green Island was the best In summary - I would never recommend this hotel or go there again. It's complete false advertisement in my opinion to rate this hotel as 5 star. Amazing friendly stay!

Check-in The check in was smooth swift and easy. Reception team are friendly and helpful. Arriving early? No problem for us they gave us our wrist bands and WiFi code and we could use all the facilities. When the rooms were ready (3pm) the bell boy was at hand to help you. Rating 5/5. Room Spacious and cool with plenty of storage. The beds are stunning and massive. The bathroom is very clean and modern with a his and hers sink and a in room hair dryer. The shower is the perfect size after a long day at the beach. Rating 5/5. House keeping Our house keeper was Esther from Monday to Friday and then we had a weekend house keeper and I have to say the house keeping is fantastic. Every day a different towel animal on the bed each day and the rooms are very clean. (usually finished by 3pm). However I will have to say that twice we were left with no towels in the room and had to call reception and wait 30mins + for them to be delivered not good when all you want to do when you have been on the beach is have a shower and then chill. Rating 4/5. Food Plenty of places to eat so let me run down a few. Buffet (Morning and evening): delicious and plenty of selection different themes and meats each night. Yummy! Staff here and friendly and quick with table turn arounds so if you see no tables free except a dirty one then let them know and by the time you have got your 1st course of 30 it will be done for you! Buffet (Lunch): nothing really overly tickled my fancy at this but there was a selection. Jerk chicken shack: omg this place is amazing! If you are not vegetarian or vegan I would definitely go here for lunch. Prepare to wait however as the que is always big. Specialties: There is 4 on site and as I did t use them I'm not going to comment on the food. The reason I didn't use them is they only have 2 sittings an evening and to get a seat you must be in line 45 mins before it opens or you won't get in! No reservations procedure. I feel there should be a buzzer system in place for these restaurants to stop the queuing! Rating:4/5. Bars From Bob's on the beach to the swim up pool bar they are fantastic. One little gem is the sports bar which is open 24/7 they also have snacks in there and a microwave. 5/5 Entertainment day time The entertainment team will march up.and down the beach and drag you by your short and curliea to get you to join in on the day time activities (especially Rollie (Happy new year)). This ranges from volleyball to horse shoes. My fav was watching the professionals do synchronised swimming this was fantastic! 4/5. Pool areas 4 pools in total. Main pool, 2nd, pool quiet pool and kids pool. All very clean but tough to get a sub bed unless you are out there early in the morning but hey why have pool when you have the glorious beach? Rating 5/5. Beach Beach is lovely and they tidy it every night. A short walk down the beach is the other hotels and it is a lovely walk as well with some shacks selling stuff but don't worry if they ask you to look a short no thanks will do just fine and they don't bother you again. The vendors are always on the beach and one again if you say no thank you they do not try to hound you. One note sun beds are old and dirty and need cleaning/fixing/replacing. Rating 4/5. Shows evening Evening shows come in 2 parts the pre show then the Showtime show. The pre show varies from comedy to dance to game shows and mainly they are very funny. The main show is fabulous with some beautifully trained dancers. Twice a week they have a reggae band on and they are pretty good. Entertainers are a little pushy to try and get you to dance when sometimes you just don't feel like it... But this is me being picky ... Rating 5/5. Valentine's We were lucky to be there for valentine's Day and they went all out for it. Balloons everywhere, a love tunnel, photo booth, prosecco on arrival to the dining area, a rose given to the girls, travel set up was devine, valentine's desserts, a ice sculpture, and much much more. The showcase was a special valentine's addition too. I have to give this day alone a 5/5. Trips / Activities There is a great water sports area on site you can rent scuba, snorkeling, paddle boards, sailing boats, kayaks and more. However a small cash deposit is needed which is crazy for an all inclusive resort. Sign a waver then your are all set. We went on the catamaran Trip which was $50usd each this went to the following: snorkeling on the corals and ship wreck, pirates of the Carribbean cave, ricks cafe and seven miles beach. You have a free bar onboard with an amazing crew who is there to entertain and look after you. We went on the adult only trip so things did get slightly crazy. I do have a down side to the trip and did give this feedback in person. At ricks bar you get a tender to shore this takes around 15 mins to complete. I was with my fiancée and her parents and they got on the tender and with no warning when it was me I got told I couldn't go on the boat was full this left me on the boat and they wouldn't let my fiancée come off to stay with me this meant I had 15 mins less at Rick's bar than everyone else .. so did my fiancée as she obviously waited for me.... Basically a little warning would of been good that the tender was filling as we would of happily waited together! Rating 4/5 (due to ricks cafe issue otherwise would be 5/5) My overall rating is 5/5 .... You will love it here!!

Travel dated 01/31/19 to 02/09/19. Beautiful beach, clear water, was able to walk out quite far in only waste deep water. Food was good, I was partial to the salmon in the Italian restaurant. Wait for the American steak house, with limited seating was a little ridicules. Walk along the beach fun with multiple starfish findings. Buffet served multiple different choices for dinner. Cons: My husband drinks Scotch, limited top shelf quantity. Public restrooms too few, and far between. Pros: Entertainment was fun, even for this lazy couple just wanting to relax in the sun. Mario kept us informed of the drink of the day, & made sure we had a sample. Problem with sink draining, staff took care of it quickly.

BIG MISTAKE
leog15, Syracuse, New York
Sun Feb 17 04:20:44 EST 2019
This place is a complete joke. First... The Food: The food is your typical all inclusive food. Cafeteria style buffets, average experience. No wine lists, alcohol is watered down and gross. “Glorified buffets”. The “first come first serve” dinner rule is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of. Waited 2 hours for the Steakhouse to get a steak that tasted worse than Outback/Texas Roadhouse. Plentiful, nothing special, dinner situation is very inconvenient and time consuming. The Rooms: Pretty spacious, outdated look. Ugly brown sheets, old bed frame. Basic room. We were right by the road so we heard cars all night which was terrible. Bathrooms are okay. Beds are very stiff so be aware of that. Extra blanket is basically a towel. The Beach: Horrible. Sand is couple inches thick, with a concrete bed underneath. Real sand is only about 6 feet from the Shoreline. Nobody swims in the water. Gross seaweed, muddy bottom, no waves at all, water is dark blue not that aqua blue that the Caribbean is used to. Beach chairs are cheap, Dirty, and many are broken. Beach is filled with leaves from trees, very narrow as well. Insane amount of vendors trying to sell you drugs and other things. Whole beach smells like a weed joint because of the vendors smoking weed right on the beach. Very disturbing. No security whatsoever. The Pool: The pool with the swim up bar is okay. The pool seemed pretty clean but was dirty some of the time with debris, etc. alcohol is so gross. Everything is watered down and you can tell the alcohol is cheap. They have white wine, red wine, and red stripe for the wine and beer selections, which is just ridiculous. The paint on the pool side is chipping, half the showers to wash sand off don’t work, and the walkways are missing stones/chipped. No pool side service, you have to get in the pool to get a drink or walk up to the lobby bar. The Staff: Staff members are pretty good. Very lively, upbeat people with good hearts. They all lack basic training however. Not professional at all, often joke around with guests. Played volley ball with numerous people that were called fat or big by the staff. You could tell they were just joking around but I don’t think that’s okay. Asked for white wine many times and got red. Some are great, some are not. Front desk very unhelpful, seem like they could careless. The Property: The layout is head-scratching. A long, narrow, one-pathway design. If you are in building 4 it is a half a mile walk to the main lobby, which isn’t a problem but may be for some. Beach outside building 4 is basically eroded. All the restaurants are jammed into one corner, as the probably all use the same kitchen. Many bars weren’t even open, as I didn’t see the bar outside the stage open once, the plaza bar was closed during the day. VERY loud music throughout the night if you are in buildings one or two, you will have to deal with that. TRASH ALL OVER. I cannot stress the fact that every day there was cups, plates, cans, napkins, and all sorts of gross trash stacked up on top of garbage cans and on the ground. Nobody seemed to care to pick it up, and it looked gross and was annoying to see trash all over the resort, not being picked up until the next day or two. The trash was my biggest annoyance. Lobby is nice, paint is chipped and cracked on the fountain in the center. Sports bar is run down with cracks in the overhead lights by the pool tables. Gardening is good by the lobby but gets worse as you get further from it. The Activities: The performances were subpar and lame. Very loud, felt bad for guests in buildings one and two. Lame pool side games. Riuland for the kids looked decent but nothing spectacular. The Guests: Many Europeans and Canadians. Many of the guests from the US from the Midwest, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, that type of crowd. Many guests are older, so if you are teenagers/young adults I advise to not come just with that being said. The reviews will be deceiving from many saying it’s great. Anything but a five star hotel. The overall: Hotel Riu Negril is a below average all inclusive, and that’s being generous. the inconvenient dinner situation, the drug dealers on the beach, the trash all over, and the untrained staff is the reason I give this place a one star. The weather is one of the only great things about it. We did the scuba caribe boat tour which was great, and went out to dinner a couple nights and if felt so good to taste real, authentic food. Good for a very low budget resort although it isn’t priced like one. Jamaica is wonderful, but there are much better options in Negril, such as the Riu Palace across the bay, and the Beaches resort. This was a big mistake, and we WILL NOT be back in the future to Hotel Riu Negril.

Disappointed

We have previously stayed at twoRiu Palaces & were very impressed. Riu Negril did not live up to our expectations. We are not hard to please! 1. Beach chairs are very very old & need replaced. The sun shade covering at the third pool was shredded cloth draped above beach chairs! WOW! 2. Empty beer cans, etc sat for days in certain areas. (A dropped plate of chicken was in the beach walkway all day!) 3.Front desk staff was very put out when asked for assistance. 4. The place is too spread out! God help you if you are in building 3,4....walking all the way to the main building for everything is quite inconvenient!!! 5.THE BEACH IS TERRIBLE IN BLOODY BAY! (Rocky, grassy, muddy ocean floor) AND WATER SHOES DO NOT HELP! You cannot even see the bottom to know where to try to walk in the water !!!! We will not be back to Bloody Bay or Riu Negril. We won’t even talk about the drug dealers that yell all day at the guests trying to sell them weed. Unreal.

We stayed at the Riu Negril for 10 days. The positives are: The beach was very good. Bartenders and waitresses were good. Mario was fantastic. The entertainment staff are high energy. We enjoyed the glass bottom boat and katamaran rides. The negatives were: The food was average. We had several issues with our room. The a/c unit was not adjustable. It only ran at one temp:65F. We informed the front desk about the problem. They stated they would fix it. It was not fixed. Twice we were left with no towels or only received some of our allotment of shower towels, wash cloths, etc. We informed the front desk of the issues. One day we were locked out of our room. Our key did not work. The maid's key didn't work. The supervisor's key didn't work. Someone had to bring a computer to our room to let us in. The nightly entertainment was way to loud for us. Each night we kept moving further and further away from the stage. We finally ended up outside the theater. The acoustics in the theater were less than ideal for a resort of this caliber. We were introduced to the sand fleas. The fleas did a number on most of the people in our group. The water activities equipment was not what you expected from a resort of this caliber. We were told they had only 3 snorkeling sets for the entire resort. We had a group of 4 that wanted to paddleboard together. We were never able to paddleboard together. The paddleboards weren't in very good condition. In closing, we have previously visited Mexico, Costa Rico and Jamaica. Our recent visit to Riu Negril ranks at the bottom of our 5 previous vacations. We had too many negative experiences on this trip.
