I Love This Place! Definitely Recommend

I had a very great experience at RIU Negril! The staff members were very welcoming and knowledgeable. The food is to die for, please make sure you go to the jerk chicken food spot in the middle of the beach, we ate eat here literally everyday for lunch. The food in all of the restaurants is amaizing and they offer such a wide variety of food options. The drinks are great! There are so many different bars you can go to so that you never have to worry about standing around and waiting for a drink this includes the pool bar which we loved! The beach water sports are included so please make sure you enjoy them before your trip is over( unfortunately we were not able to due to us going of the resorts the first couple of days of our stay and then the last 2 days it rained basically all day so this is something we definitely regret not taking advantage of). The rooms are nice, you have your own mini bar and refrigerator which is stocked every 2 days, you have a nice sized closet and bathroom, we also had a balcony which was great to sit out during late nights and also a convient place to air dry your wet bathing suits. The staff was amazing, whatever you needed they made sure they accommodated you. Although, I know some people were annoyed that the staff members did not attend to their needs as fast as they would like, I did not mind because it is a big resort and I am sure they have a lot of people to get to. As long as you have some patients you will be fine. The beach is beautiful!!!! The live entertainment was okay, not my favorite part about the resort but I like that they have different live entertainment daily. One of my favorite things about the resort is that they have certain themes for different days. For example, Tuesday was a pool party so they had food stations with loaded tacos including shrimp, chicken, beef, crab, I mean anything you could think of! On pool party Tuesday’s they also have music and live entertainment which was great! Hands down I will definitely recommend this hotel and I promise you I will be visiting again!!!

Enjoyed our vacation, but wouldn't return to the RIU
MATTHEW B.
Aug 29 2018
Overall my husband and I had a wonderful vacation, however I would not return to the RIU. It wasn’t as nice as places we’ve stayed before and we thought a smaller resort may be better than the larger ones we’ve stayed in the past but it was definitely lacking in a few areas. Our room was nothing special, a bed and bathroom which was all we needed and it was clean so that was a plus. We realized the sheets weren’t changed at all our entire stay and the hand towels in the bathroom were just re-folded, not replaced. The first few days our room was done early and we had new towels every time we were back to our room but as the week went on our room was getting cleaned later and later and then we would have to wait for towels. Also we did not have an ironing board and I asked THREE TIMES for one and I was told each time someone would bring it to my room, they did not, the service declined as our week progressed. We’d also have to wait for pool towels in the morning. To me this just says the hotel was understaffed and/or doesn’t have enough supplies for the resort. There are only four restaurants; the Steakhouse was good and the Fine dining restaurant was as well. The cream of pumpkin soup and the fish for my entree were SO good. The Italian restaurant was OK, the food wasn’t great but wasn’t terrible. It was also partly a buffet, you had to get your own appetizers, salads, and deserts. Skip the Asian restaurant completely; it was like a China Buffet, all buffet style and a lot of fried foods. The Breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets however were actually really good which surprised me that some of the sit down restaurants weren’t fantastic. Every morning we’d have a fresh made omelet, the coffee was delicious, and the service was great. They had a HUGE variety so even if you’re traveling with a picky eater, they’re bound to find something. The lunch buffet was excellent as well and the jerk chicken stand on the beach was AMAZING. The dinner buffet again was also really good, there was even a chef who was at a carving station for roasted chicken and one night it was prime rib. Room service would be a HUGE upgrade, we talked to a handful of people that got in to the resort late and were starving and couldn’t get any food. Yes, the sports bar has “snacks” but nothing great. As for the pool/beach/weather: the pool was nice, it wasn’t overly crowded and it was convenient that there was a separate kid’s pool! Our bartenders were GREAT, especially Neal, he was so kind and lovely to talk with. There were a lot of families there with small kids so I think that’s a great accommodation for them to have their own little pool and even a swing set in the area for the kids to play. The only downside to the pool was we got a lot of rain the week we were there, it would rain EVERY day for an hour or two and one day it rained from about 1 pm through to dinner time around 7 pm (not complaining because you cannot control the weather). It seemed because of all the rain as the week progressed more stuff made its way in to the pool and it made it dirty. When we’ve been at other resorts people would be cleaning the pool throughout the day, a constant upkeep, here we only saw people tending to the pools in the morning. The beach was fantastic! We saw fish every day, a few stingrays, and some starfish to name a few. It was so peaceful and calm we spent the majority of our days at the beach. One last thing to add in conclusion. The hotel seemed to be very inconsistent with their service. Always room for improvement.

3rd time at the RIU Negril

We’ve been to this resort twice before, this time we brought the kids. Food was terrific, beach terrific, staff great, but the maid service was below expectation. We asked for a couple extra pillows on day one in the morning. They brought the pillows between 9:30 & 10:00p when we were all sleeping. Day 4 we were out of soap and shampoo, so we asked for it to be replenished in the morning. Guess what time they showed up? Between 9 & 10p again. There is no way to bolt the door, so they knocked and came in while we were sleeping. The guy couldn’t get the shampoo dispenser open, so he gets into a long conversation on his cell phone in our room while my kids were sleeping. I like the resort and the food was better than I remember, but housekeeping was a challenge on this visit.

Cleanliness

I saw many staff walk right by trash left on the property. The room was clean but needed many repairs which the maintenance did do. The beach was raked every day but most of the time the debris was left in a pile. The ocean floor close to the beach was full of grass and algae which I was told they can't touch it to remove. I would not categorize this hotel as a 5 star resort more like 3 1/2 stars. The entertainment was always late around 9:30pm and we were tired so we didn't see the entertainment. The natives were constantly pestering us to buy their items. In fact they stood on the beach all day long. The police had to remove them on one day. The drinks were very good but at night it seemed like they doubled the alcohol and were too strong. Most of the bartenders were awesome and friendly. Recommend taking a catamaran for a day trip to Rick's Cafe, Margaritaville and the caves. Had a great time and the staff were dancing and so much fun.

Honeymoon Memories

My husband and I arrived for our honeymoon and found it quite entertaining that we were put in a room with 2 twin size beds. We also overheard other guests talking about having a bottle of champagne waiting in their rooms for them since they were celebrating their marriage, we did not. My husband is handicap and needs a shower chair to shower with. His first shower there the chairs leg broke and he fell. I called the front desk immediately to let them know the chair was broke and the shower curtain was broke due to him falling, they did ask if he was okay but they never sent anyone to the room to look at anything or replace the chair. I had to help him shower the rest of our stay. There were only about 5 or 6 employees that we really felt went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. Everyone was very nice but didn't necessarily try and form bonds. When we arrived at the airport on our first day the apple guy grabbed our luggage and then asked us if we were going to tip him, I thought that was a little rude considering there was so much going on I didn't even know what was happening. Overall we had a great time, and our friend who booked the vacation for us did an amazing job, she was so helpful and made sure we did not have any questions before we left. I will use apple to book my next vacation and I would stay in Jamaica again but I would probably never stay at the RIU again.

I went to the Riu Negril with my boyfriend for 7 nights. This was our first experience in Jamaica, and it was absolutely beautiful! The hotel staff was wonderfully kind, and extremely helpful. The food wasn't luxury, but there was always plenty of options to choose from. By far, the best food we had at the resort was the jerk chicken at the beach hut!!!! It was out of this world every time! The beach was clean, there were plenty of places to sit, and plenty of friendly people to talk to. We did a catamaran tour to Half Moon Bay, and I would highly recommend this trip! We also took a cab to a couple of restaurants off the resort. I felt very safe, and had excellent food and service at Ivan's and Rockhouse. You can't go wrong at the Riu Negril or Jamaica!!!!

My first all inclusive adventure and what a surprise.. having visited Jamaica staying with family numerous times it was something of an eye opener to see how the other half live! This place operates akin to a Swiss watch, all components moving in synchronicity- from breakfast to dinner to arrival and checkout I was impressed. The staff were welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable I couldn’t ask for more. The facilities were excellent, although we did have a few problems with the electronic key card which required re setting on a daily basis. The gym is rather small and dingy so requires updating forthwith however this didn’t detract from the Jamaican experience. Room had fabulous views across the beach, was well maintained and clean. Restaurants were very good indeed, nice food, great choices, I could go on. The beach was fabulous, lots to see and do with organised games and trips, I can not recommend this place highly enough.

My review is very similar to others posted here so I will try not to repeat. Resort is kept very clean considering tourists are the main factors for debris. How do we educate people to leave their spot cleaner than they used it. Food was very good considering day in day out for every staff member. They had everything well sorted with even a lobster buffet one evening, all you could eat. Beach is kept clean other than tourists cigarette butts left in the sand, its not really bad but enough that you notice. Water was not clear while we were here for the week, but resort cant change Mother Nature. We thought we defiantly got value for our money so No regrets, Staff does shine here as they enjoy life. Special shout out to entertainment staff, Famous - Jerome, one heck of a nice man who shared some of the culture of the island and his employment at the Riu. Every day we discussed an interesting topic. So short and sweet, would I recommend Riu Negril - Yes On another point we did meet another couple while away who live not far and have made a new friendship through travel. So all is good, Yah man

We had never been to the Carribbean or a Riu hotel before. If arriving in rush hour prepare for a long transfer. The grounds where lovely and always a groundsman doing jobs but it didn't disturb us. We had a room in block 2 overlooking the pool and side sea view (2150) it's was lovely big and clean a couple of days our mini bar wasn't restocked so had to walk to reception to get water they did apologise but feel a little cheated as missed two days of mini bar (explain why under food and drinks). There are notices up saying to be quote after 11pm but our block had a whole load of Candians in it for a big wedding and one night it sound like a party outside and in the corridors, didn't help that one of them decided to ssssh the others either. The sound does travel well in the dead of night. Food and drinks. It was very samey in the buffet. On our last morning we joked you could walk in to the Green Island at breakfast or the Seagull at lunch blind folded and know where everything way. We only ate at the Seagull (stake restaurant) and not the other spiecailty places because of food allergies and the menu. Drinks we saw Americans and Canadians drinking from their own travel mugs and thought it strange, however after witnessing how they washed the glass at the beach bar I can see why. After that I only drank from the bottles in the room and from the reception bar or sports bar. The beach bar drinks had a dirty taste to them. Good selection of drinks but remember back in UK it's a measure of gin and topped up with Tonic, here is was a measure of tonic topped up with gin. At one point I had to ask for half strength as all you could taste was the alcohol . Sport we went out in the Kayaks twice, maybe because I'm English I'm not use to tipping but felt a bit pressured to tip the water sports guy but all he did was hold our kayaks as we got in. Crime - after reading reports in the run up to our stay I was worried but we didn't have anything taken. We did worry one day as the room door didn't shut properly by maintenance came out quickly to sort.

I was visiting this resort with a friend in November 2018. We were flying to Montego Bay from Moscow (Russia , not Idaho) so it was a long flight (considered to be 12 hours but in fact it was 14 hour charter flight) it was not very comfortable, but this is not an airline review so i will just say we survived the flight across the ocean and then 2 hr bus ride from Montego Bay to Negril and arrived safe and sound in our resort. Check-in. We have arrived early in the morning , but we didn't have to wait until 2pm to check in or pay for the early check-in .Big respect to Riu for this. Room. There are 4 room buildings marked with numbers 1 to 4. Building 1 is the closest to the lobby, shops entertainment and restaurants. Building 4 is the one you will have to walk for 5-7 minutes. All the buildings are situated along the beach. We stayed at the building 3. Room 3125 (second floor) has a Sea view with a garden behind. It was quiet room and it took a few minutes of walking towards the main building , restaurants and bars but i guess the level of noise will depend on the people who stay next to your room:)The room was clean, it has air conditioner and a mechanic fan on the ceiling, each room has a balcony with a little table and 2 chairs. Towels were changed every day . there is a soap and shower gel/shampoo two in one so please bring your own product if you need it. Sockets in Jamaica differ from those in Russia so we also needed an adapter. If your luggage was lost or forgot a brush or toothpaste or shampoo or swimming suit you can buy everything in the little shop at the property. Beach I am giving 4 points to this resort only because of the beach as unfortunately water is quite dirty and there are a lot of seaweed . Some people told me you can find sea urchins, crabs and cramp fish inside the water. Personally i have only seen crabs but i am not a risky person so i was mostly spending time by the pool. The point is if you are looking for the crystal clean water this is unfortunately not the place you should chose for your vacation. There are no umbrellas at the beach but you will always find a place in the shade anyway. You can walk about 10 minutes toward Riu Tropical bay and their beach is slightly better. Beach sellers will not bother you unless you are staying closer to the water. they are usually nice guys they will try to sell you weed, braids or souvenirs but if you chat with them they will tell you a lot of cool stories about life in Jamaica. they always will remember your name and will wave every time they see you :))) Pool there are 3 pools, one of them with the bar and entertainment. Other two are more chilled. You can always find a place in the shade by the pool Restaurants&Bars the food was good in general. You could find anything on your choice. I didn't like the fruits, but as our guide said November is not the best month for good fruits in Jamaica. Jerk chicken was very good. Jerk sauce is really hot be careful with it :) Drinks: there are alcohol bottles in the room (Rum, Whiskey and Vodka) and some soft drinks and beer inside the mini bar. We didn't spend much time inside the room so we really just drank water. Wine at the restaurants wasn't really good, but in Jamaica you drink rum and cocktails with rum , right? Sometimes barmen would make you secial shots or cocktail that are not in the menu. Those are the best! you can eat and drink 24/7 in this resort. Breakfast served at Green island restaurant which is a buffet. You can have dinner here is you want as well. There are also 4 a-la-carte restaurants, where you can have dinner and you DON'T have to book in advance, just come (better early) and wait in a line. Luigi. Italian. i heard some bad reviews about this one but to my taste it wasn't bad. There is a buffet of appetizers and then you pick up a second from the menu. Asian. This one works as a buffet. I liked this one as you can eat sushi here. Fancy one ( i forgot the name ) The food here was meh but the atmosphere is very nice. Seagull they serve lunch here at noon and it is a steak restaurant at night. Not bad we really ate a lot that night Entertainment there are games, dancing , aqua gym, yoga and a lot of other things happening during the day. There is a show at night starting at 8:30, but after show it is pretty much it. The bars are closing at approx 11 and then the only place you can eat and drink is Sport bar (don't eat the burgers they are ew). Once a week there is a beach party. There is a night club Jungle , not far from the resort, Taxi ride will be $10 per person return trip. Thursday night is the ladies night so it is free entrance for the ladies ( expect to see a lot of hookers on Thursday...) Other services beach towels. You will be given a towel card during the check-in and then you exchange the card to the towel by the pool. the day before departure you just store the towel and ask for the card other wise you might be charged at the check out. I have seen people holding towels at the check out though, so probably you can return the towel not the card as well. WI-fi . It is free in all areas. Worked ok for me even at the beach. You will get password for 2 devices for each room. If you need to add more devices you will have to pay for it. SPA&Gym - we didn't try the spa or gym, my friend got manicure with gel and paid about $20 it was good for this price :) Other comments weed. You will smell weed everywhere at the resort and if you don't smoke it might bother you. Kids. There are not a lot of babies at the resort and not so many things to entertain kids. average age was about 30+ when we stayed in November. We didn't have anything stolen during our stay and in general we felt safe at the resort. People were very friendly. I was feeling a bit insecure about going outside the resort in Negril as we were just two girls on vacation. I would still come back and explore more of Jamaica next time. I would stay in this resort once again.
