riu negril one word "amazing"

Just came from riu club negril (June 15 to June 22). I had an amazing time. The hotel beautiful and the food was good but what made my trip was the staff. Garth and Hassan at the sport bar were amazingly nice and attentive. Carson at the beach, lobby bar staff and at the buffets were great. I can not say enough about all of them. Thank you guys for making this a memorable trip. I will definitely come back to this resort. Only thing that I was a little disappointed about was the lack of seafood. More>

Excellent Hotel. Amazing Holiday!

Room: A good size and really well looked after. Our room was cleaned every day and we had clean towels and sheets with a cute towel animal made every day. The optics in the room are a great touch allowing you to get dressed ready for the evening whilst having a drink in your own room. A range of mixers from Coke/Diet Coke to Ginger Ale are all stocked. The fridge is restocked every two days which was fine for us. Shower is really powerful and never had any problems with hot water. We were in building 1 which is very convenient and I would recommend as closest to amenities. Your room comes with a free safe and iron and ironing board. Unfortunately it does not have any tea or coffee making facilities. The Air-con in the room works very well and is very much needed. Hotel: Each block has three floors and no lifts however luggage is bought up to the room for you by staff. The grounds are kept really clean and really well looked after. The beach is lovely, never had a problem getting sun loungers. There are a variety of shops within the resort offering clothes, gifts, everyday items and ATM. The hotel has free Wi-Fi in lobby area however to have this in rooms/beach there is a charge of $40US a week which is not too bad really. They Wi-Fi worker really well and it never got turned off so we ended up having the second week for free. We also had to visit the nurse and Doctor during our stay who were very friendly and helpful. Food: The food in my opinion was 10/10. The Green Island Buffet has so much choice there is no reason to get bored. They have different themes every night which is also a great touch. We booked at the Asian Restaurant which is also a buffet but we was not very impressed and left to go to the main buffet. I have seen reviews were people have complained about the Jamaican food options…. hello you are in Jamaica and there are still plenty other options. The Jerk Hut on the beach is very nice but if you come off the grounds you will find more authentic jerk chicken. I would recommend the Lobster shack on the beach just 1 minute up from the water sports, it was the amazing!! I have seen a lot of reviews about the wine but I happened to of liked the red wine, it was very strong which is always good. The drinks are NOT at all watered down and they are very generous. After 11pm the only food available is in the sports bar which offer sandwiches, fruit, and microwave burgers. We were always so stuffed after dinner we didn’t ever need this. Entertainment: The entertainment staff put in so much work to keep the place going. Working from 8 until 11 every day. They are all very lovely and will take the time to greet you and talk to you every day and try to get to know everyone personally. The evening shows of course some are better than others but the effort that goes into them are always 100% I took US Dollars which was much easier as everything is quoted in US, however my sister bought JA Dollars and it was never a problem either just be sure to work out currency yourself to ensure you are not overcharged. Please be advised excursions are not at all cheap, you will be paying at least $80 -100US per person for a full day excursion. I would recommend the YS Falls, Black River and Appleton Rum tour which was a really fun day out. Overall: I don’t think this is a 5star hotel due to small things such as no tea/coffee machines and no beach/pool service. I would recommend this hotel and definitely plan to stay here again. More>

Destination Wedding

We went for a destination wedding with family and friends, there were over 80 in our group. We had a special spot on the beach by the beach bar close to the quiet pool and building 2. Beach bar opens at 10 sharp..might want to take beers from your room until then or go to the 24 hour Sports Bar. Open for early morning coffee as well. We didn't use the pool bar very much as we would've because of all the kids playing ball. We loved the food. The buffets were great Hugh selection very friendly staff. All staff were great. Our room was on the third floor, no elevators, we really didn't mind that. The fan in the room was super and our room was always cleaned and stocked no issues with anything. Staff are always cleaning and very friendly. One excursion that was the most fun was The Wild Thing. They played great music, super fun crew, good drinks and great ride. We ate at Ricks Cafe good food and some did the cliff jumping into the water. We snorkeled and went to Margaritaville, that was nice. Watched the sun set on ocean. I would definitely recommend this. We would definitely go back to this resort. More>

RIU NEGRIL is great for families, couples, etc.

I took my husband here for a 4 day Father's Day getaway. This resort is great for families, couples, and singles & all ages. The hotel is beautiful & well maintained. When reading some of the reviews we thought it wasn't a place for young couples/people, but we was wrong, all ages. We were greeted w/ drinks & after a 90 mins ride from the airport (refreshing). DRINKS: The staff/bartender's provides exceptional service: If you Have a favorite bartender have them make all of their personal specialty drinks. MY OPINION: Why come to Jamaica & look for alcohol you can buy in the States, step outside the Box & live a little; this country is known & has some of the BEST RUMS, and I love to drink when I am on vacation and never woke up sick or w/ a hangover. FOOD: Our favorite food option hands down was Breakfast & the Jerk Hut on the beach. I wish they had more Jamaican dishes/options. The Specialty Restaurants which you have to make reservation a day or 2 in advance was ok, but try it if you are staying for a long period of time & you just want to dress up a little: the food was just ok; I thought the buffet was better. HOUSEKEEPING: The first 2 days got clean towels, and wash cloths but on the 3rd & 4th day no clean wash cloths, but we called the service desk and they were delivered in a timely manner. So, still no complaints, I can see these women work hard, and now I understand why you can't check in early, b/c sometime I see housekeeping leaving or finishing up rooms in the late evening. ENTERTAINMENT: Usually starts around noon time around the pool-bar(which was dirty, dirty) they need to have someone cleaning that pool around the clock: you will see all kind of things floating & the nightly entertainment is EXCELLENT, and some nights they include the kids from the audience in the show. THE BEACH: The beach water is nice, warm and some area's clear. You can even see little fish swimming around, but the bottom was murky so if you have kids I would definitely but swim shoes. The beach hustler's are around the clock to sale you any and everything so be ready. TIP, TIP,: We brought extra money just for tipping after reading some of the reviews so get lots of one's and 5's. I know this is an all inclusive hotel and everything is covered, but, the staff work's very, very, hard and they are dedicated to their jobs. We barely seen anyone tipping. Tipping will get you faster ,and excellent service and trust me they will remember you and appreciate the kindness. Overall the staff take good care of you and make sure you are safe.We will be coming back here again with our kids next time and some of our family & close friends. More>

Overall we were satisfied with our experience at the Club Riu with a few exceptions. The staff was incredibly courteous and friendly. The beach front and pools were nice and the all inclusive dining was ok. The international buffet (the only choice that did not require reservations) was our favorite. Our only major complaint was regarding the difficulty in keeping bottled water stocked in our room (it clearly states not to drink the tap in the bathrooms). The only restock the refrigerators every 2 days - we like to drink a LOT of water so the 2 liter bottles they provided were not nearly enough. The rooms were clean although our bedding was stained one day after housekeeping had cleaned the room and the resort itself was well maintained. We were at the resort for a destination wedding - we had a great time and felt that the piece was reasonable for the experience. This is considered the "rainy" season and like clockwork, it rained almost everyday Round 1pm. It was the perfect time to grab some lunch (highly recommend the jerk chicken beach front shack on property) and grab some shade for an hour or so before heading back to the pool for the afternoon. Beach vendors were not overly aggressive once you let them know your interest. Inwould skip the lobster shack on the beach just past the resort near the tented vendors. More>
