Fantastic hotel and service
JESSICA B.
Aug 10 2018
The rooms were desent, the price was just right, the service was fantastic, the beach was great and the pools were very nice. I recommend this place to all my friends. Its not the most luxurious hotel but it was pretty nice. We enjoyed our stay and would return to this same hotel in the future.

A couple of things you should know

The lobby is very underwhelming. I walked in and thought "I don't know.." but the pool areas and beach were gorgeous. Food was great...tons of variety. Our room was clean. We laughed at the unfortunate placement of a frosted "window" in the wall between the bedroom and the bathroom. It was right in front of the toilet. One thing people definitely need to know is that only 2 people can use wifi to a room or you need to pay for it. This is NOT advertised by either the hotel or APPLE. Overall: nice place!

Not a 5 Star resort

The resort says 5 stars , in my opinion is more of a 3.5. It is nice and all, just not a 5 star. The rooms are okay, bed is very very hard. The resort is very clean, and has a beautiful beach.

This was our fourth visit to Cancun and the second time we stayed at the Riu Caribe. We had a wonderful time and would gladly stay here again in the future. Easy access to the beach, friendly and attentive employees, Delicious restaurants and beautiful view of the ocean from our room. We have never been disappointed with any of the RIU Hotels.

We Were very disappointed with our deep sea fishing. We had to travel an hour away. The water was so choppy that we had to come back in early. Because we came in early we had to pay for our taxi back to our hotel, this was supposed to be included with the price. We were talking to another couple and their tour guide recommended changing their fishing trip to a different day because the water was going to be so rough. Plus their trip was only 5 min away compared to our hour long trip. We wasted 2 hours of precious vacation for time for no reason. Our room was not cleaned on a daily basis and our refrigerator was not stocked unless we called (repeatedly). The resort is beautiful but the room house keeping was lacking.

Great hotel/resort for mini winter vacation.

My husband and I travel a lot, we love the Caribbean and Mexico beaches, and we've used Apple Vacations many times. This was our second stay at the Riu Caribe and we've been pleased both times. Rooms are nice and clean with beautiful views from every balcony, restaurants are average to above average(Mexican is the best) and does not require reservations, buffet has plenty to offer everyone, pool is nice, beach is great (with beach service) and plenty of chairs. For a mini winter vacation we like that this resort is small and easy to get around. You're not walking 1/4 mile from the front area to your rooms or the beach. We've stayed in nicer resorts but for the price of a mini vacation, just to get out of the snow, this was perfect.

We enjoyed our honeymoon at Riu Caribe very much! The staff made sure to make our stay special. We got a free upgrade to a beautiful corner suite. The views from the hotel are gorgeous. The quality (and quantity) of the food and drinks was very good. We loved our stay!

Not Really a 5-6 Golden Apple Resort
DOUGLAS S.
Feb 03 2018
Airport arrival: Instantly accosted by people selling excursions--both in airport and after we met up with transfer staff. The airport is bad enough but felt betrayed that the Apple staff brought over someone to try and "sell" us before we got into the van. Transfer was speedy but driver then played a movie to sell us excursions (again!). Check in was great (Patricia) with a gratis upgrade (thank you). Upon getting to our room, they had to jam two double beds together, the door handle was broken off, the deck chair was cracked and broke!! we asked to have both chairs replaced but only replaced one. The shower door did not close so water got all over. The beds were moderately comfortable but sank in the middle of each. The slider door leaked and the air would move the curtains quite a bit. Air conditioner was good. Ceiling fan went clunk clunk clunk and we didn't use it. Entertainment was extremely loud, unintelligible and so awful. We felt bad for those on floor 3 - 5 as it must have been horrifically loud with the open lobby. Food was mediocre at best, no labels on much so couldn't tell what the mystery meats were. Drinks were excellent. Bar staff attentive and thorough. Beach was exquisite-clean, sugar sand. Disappointed that the apple staff tried to sell excursions again when we had to confirm transfer to airport to go home. The physical structure is old and parts of the outside wall were falling onto our deck when the wind was strong. Multiple areas with leaks inside, tile floors slippery all over. Spa was a waste of money, we had reserved services but the staff was at the other hotel and did not make it to our appointment. The housekeeping staff was friendly and kind. Some restrooms were quite scary with soiled TP in the trash next to the commode.

Airport - you need $65 departure tax per person to leave Mexico. Keep the white slip of form when arriving (immigration) you need it on your return or charged. Definitely no more than 200 cigarettes each on arrival/departure. Do not arrive drunk, immigration can send you back on the next flight home. Who would want to fly for 20 hours??? Riu Caribe - Check in was quick. Room was very clean, bed firm but not back sore firm. Air con keeps room freezing but needed. We used the blanket when sleeping. Housekeeping will make your bed with blanket if you use it once. Free safe!!! View from 6th floor amazing! The only down side is when loud/drunk people come back from Coco Bongo’s in the wee small hours (happened three times in a fortnight) or the early risers chatting outside your door (please, it’s 7am! You know who you are). Food is really good, lots of choice but as most holidays you start to wish for home cooking! I will say, best cup of tea at breakfast I have ever had!!! Steakhouse was fantastic, makes you feel like you have had a full meal rather than grazing. We used the quiet pool every day, great for chilling, reading. There were a few inconsiderate people who think it’s fine to play music, it’s not, it’s the quiet pool!!! Thursday is the foam party, gets busy but a good laugh (3pm-5pm). Weekends become busier and louder. We used the outside terrace a lot for having some drinks at night, say hello to Max and Ivan, 10/10 service from both these guys! Tip them well, they work very hard!!! Entertainment team work hard too, thank you! Few thunderstorms but only lost one afternoon of sun. Usually over within a few minutes. Warning- Be careful if going to Isle Mujeres, couple of girls went over and hired a golf buggy, their bag was stolen out the back by a moving vehicle. Keep everything close and take as little as possible with you!!! We will return to Cancún although probably in the winter months, thank you for a great first trip to Mexico Riu Caribe, it was amazing!

We just come home from a 2 week holiday ,hotel lovely rooms spacious n clean love.y view from 5 floor .food is really nice can’t fault it only one thing spoiling food is beach day time snack bar full of birds flying around could easily be solved with netting put round ,The entertainment is really good and the team are so friendly. The only down side is main pool very loud drinking and eating in the pool and even spitting in there think security should be more present as it is a family hotel . We went to the foam party which was amazing and fun .The beach is one of the best round the area loads of sun beds and shelter from sun

Food let’s it down...

Myself and boyfriend recently returned from the Riu Caribie and although we had a good time we feel certain aspects of the hotel could have made it better. Food - not the best. Breakfast was the best meal of the day but always the same as with lunch. Dinner we found hard to eat in the buffet restaurant so only ate here twice out of our full 2 weeks. The themed restaurants were nice enough but a little surprised that the Asian is self service. The bbq and fresh baked pizzas were yummy so make the most of these. The drinks on all inclusive are of a wide verity and include some international brands. Sun beds - if your not down for 8am you’ll be lucky to get a bed especially if you are in a larger group than 2. The pool didn’t appear to be the cleanest but on the last two days we did witness staff in the pool cleaning it. The entertainment team at this hotel are amazing! They have something on all day and then at night organised for staff and people staying in the hotel to go on nights out. They work incredibly hard and are the highlight of this hotel. Anyone going to this hotel soon be aware there is building work going on which was not mentioned when we booked. We got moved room 3 times before we were placed in a suitable room. Our first 2 rooms there were ropes and builders literally on the balcony but Sam at reception was great in helping us eventually find the perfect room. Overall we had a good time at this hotel, if the food had been better we probably would return. However based on the experience we had with the food we wouldn’t return nor recommend the hotel to others.

The Riu Caribe was a very lovely hotel. The entertainment people that do the exercise and dancing in the pool and for the shows are extremely good looking and very friendly. My husband and I went with our 2 kids age 14 and 4 and they both enjoyed the stay. Victor at the steakhouse made sure my son got a cake for his bday and we sang to him and it was so nice. The food at the steakhouse is amazing and the main buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner is very good with many choices! I only wish there was a club within the hotel like there is at Riu Sante Fe in Cabo. But overall and amazing vacay.Thank you Riu Caribe!!!
