terrible front desk, great entertaining staff
MARK B.
Nov 15 2018
Room had leaking walls with musty odor, light fixture in overhead ceiling bathroom leaked from the middle of the light. walls leaked from top of doors. Inquired about this after first night stay and was told they would check into it. Went to the desk again and was told they would check into it. After next morning, I called and demanded to be moved as I felt danger from the leaking light fixture. I was moved later after 3 pm and was informed they would fix the room. However, I checked the next day and another couple were staying in the room that was leaking. I couldn't believe it. I was not compensated for my stay at all and was told by Daniel at the front desk to drink tequila. REALLY!!!! On the flip side of the stay, the entertainment was great, I had a great time with all of the staff and barstaff. John, the apple representative gave false information about an excursion purchased by six of us. The catamaran was to only hold 35 people and it took on 45, snorkeling was only for 15 minutes and was told and hour at each stop, paddleboarding was only for 15 minutes. We were told that we could rent a six passenger gold cart and could only get a four passenger gold cart. Not a very good excursion over all. Told shrimp cerviche and was given some kind of fish. Overall the beach was very nice and the waitstaff were great.

My only recommendations are the following: the workout facilities were less than adequate Room was too small and equipment was outdated. Highly recommend investing in this area. The 2nd area is regarding loud guests from 1-5 am every night.

RIU Cancun was the perfect resort for our group of 17 that included several 18 year olds. The nightly entertainment and daily activities were awesome. There was always something going on. The service was exceptional. The food was good. The view is spectacular. I would recommend they put more pillows in the rooms. The location is ideal. It's only 20 minutes from the airport and walking distance to shopping and night clubs.

This is a awesome hotel. The service was the best I have ever had. This was the best vacation me and the wife have ever had. The only problem we had was my sandals were stolen on the beach the first day, but everything else was so good it didn't matter.

Our agent Michelle Duquaine was top notch in our booking. Rooms are average and clean. Hotel is very clean. Food is good and a variety. Beach very nice (not large), perfect for relaxation. The only down side is the sun is gone by 5:30-6pm last week in february and first week in march. To the right of the beach is a ferry to the island. Great boat ride. Feel safe walking our of the hotel in the hotel district. Would go back in a heart beat. Apple people were readily available if we wanted to book a excursion. We are strictly there for RR!

I stayed at Riu Cancun Feb '18, I was very happy with the Hotel Staff, they really go beyond expectations to make you feel comfortable and enjoy your vacation. The hotel is clean, the food is fresh and with variety every day. The beach is truly turquoise water in this area and the swimming pools have a great environment with music and pool bar, I also felt safe at all times. I would definitely book this same place in the near future and would recommend.

Pros: 1. Apple vacation representative on-site all day. 2. Beach was well-maintained and clean. 3. Room was old but clean. 4. Entertainers were doing their best. 5. Convenient location of hotel. Cons: 1. Pool was cold and hot-tub was not even warm enough! 2. Only 4 small (8 person max) elevators for such a huge hotel, long waits times. 3.So many food options but quality was average. 4. Service at restaurants needed attention. 5. Very few pool-side seats get good sunshine due to main building covering the sun. 6. Inside the restaurant there was always a burnt oil smell, not good enough ventilation. 7. Hotel has very old design and spa is located very far to main spots.

No Sleep Entire Stay
Slims3963, Taber, Canada

We stayed at the RIU Cancun in February 2018 and we will not be going back. We have stayed there many times in the past and always enjoyed it there. However, this last stay was horrendous due to lack of sleep from party people in adjoining rooms. We called the front desk each night and heard the phone ring next door which they answered. They then turned it down for a few minutes and were back at it again until the early am. We also asked to be moved to another room and they said they were booked. Not true! The hotel was nowhere near capacity. This continued through our entire stay. Not once did hotel security go to their door. They just don't care about their customers. If I had told them they were throwing furniture off the balcony, they would have been there in a heartbeat. They say they don't want Spring Breakers there, but this is the hotel to go to if you want to party all night long. That being said, the food was good and the hotel staff were friendly, with the exception of the front desk who were not at all helpful.

Brilliant holiday

My partner and I stayed here in October. The hotel is fab right on the beach front. The sea so blue and the sand so white, stunning. The main reason I'm writing this is though everything in the hotel was first class, the evening entertainment was similar to what you would get in any theatre in the uk. First class dancers and the staff made it so enjoyable involving adults and children. A special hello to Daphne and Carlos both so friendly and lots of info on how to get about. The Pasha night club is good if you want to stay out a bit later but there are excursions after the show to the nightclubs in cancun. You just meet with the staff in the lobby. Overall we had a fab time relaxing and enjoying the shows in the evenings. We did go to Coco bongos and booked with the Tui rep. We went on a Sunday not so crowded and had a great spot. Would defiantly stay here again so much fun, havent got enough time to get it all in. Book up you will have a fab time.

You can’t not have a good time here

We visited this hotel in October for 3 weeks and we travelled as a couple. Due to working within the travel industry, I was sceptical about this hotel due to reading some bad reviews before we arrived and began to question whether we had picked the right riu to stay at. However, upon arrival we were taken to check in and greeted with a cocktail. The check in lady explained everything to us in detail and couldn’t have been more helpful. We travelled with TUI and originally we were given a room on the 4th floor. Once arriving at the room, we realised that we had a building blocking our view and the sea view was very limited. This wouldn’t have usually bothered us but as we were there for 3 weeks so we went down to reception to ask if we could change. The guy at the reception explained to us that TUI book out the lower rooms which tend to have a limited view and he explained that we could pay to upgrade to a better room for $500. We declined as it wasn’t that much of an issue. He then said he could move us tomorrow to a breath taking view on the 15th floor. We checked out in the morning and our room was ready by 3pm the following day and they had moved all of our luggage into our new room. To our surprise the view was spectacular. The rooms are reasonable size and are cleaned every day with fresh towels. We had two double beds pushed together and these were very comfy however had far too many sheets on them! The air con is a god send and keeps the room very cool! The bathrooms have two sinks which works well when getting ready in the evening and the shower is powerful. A couple of times our toilet kept regurgitating the toilet paper but that’s just the toilet system in mexico as we found this happened in the majority of places. The mini bar consists of a lot of water, cans of beer, Pepsi, lemonade and soda and is restocked every other day. The optics in our room were vodka, tequila, whisky and rum. The balcony also had a mesh door so you could keep the door open but no insects could come in. Overall the rooms were good, the only thing we could moan about was that there wasn’t a light on the balcony incase you wanted to sit on the balcony in the evening but this didn’t bother us too much. The location of the hotel is perfect! It’s situated not that far from the airport as our transfer was approx 25 minutes. The hotel is located right on the beach and within a 10 minute walk away from all the bars/clubs. There’s a very large supermarket right across the road aswell. The buses run outside the hotel and are really easy to work. We got on the bus for $1 dollar each and it was a 10 minute ride to the Liverpool shopping centre which has all the big name shops. The food in the hotel is very good. The breakfast buffet has everything you can possibly think of and has a great variety for everyone. You can choose to sit inside in the air conditioned main restaurant or you can also sit outside and have the view of the beach. Again, the main buffet In the evenings has a lot of choice and caters for everybody! There’s a great selection of everything including Mexican food, Italian pasta/pizza dishes and then a big selection of meats and fish. We ate in all the speciality restaurants and they were all different in their own way. The japenese by far was the restaurant we received the best service in. You get a range of different sushi’s to start with and then mains such as teriyaki chicken and teppenyaki beef all served with rice. The Italian is a buffet starter and desert with a wide variety of things to choose from. We tried the chicken and the beef in there but we much preferred the chicken. You can also eat here for lunch and it’s the same menu. The steakhouse gets quite busy and if you aren’t there before 7 you can be waiting for up to an hour to be seated. You get mozzarella sticks and a prawn salad starter and then a choice of ribs, Angus beef burger, ribeye or sirloin steak for main. The steaks were always cooked perfectly here! There’s also a gourmet restaurant which not many people are aware of as the queue for the steakhouse is very close to the gourmet. In here actually serves a fillet steak and the service is great. We really enjoyed the main meals here however the starters we didn’t like at all. Overall the food is very good here and there is something for everyone! We was here for 3 weeks and we did not get bored of the food. There are 5 bars at this hotel. We spent a lot of time at the lobby bar as this had a more chilled vibe and in the evenings often had a saxophone player. The drinks throughout the hotel are good. There’s a lot of cocktails they do which aren’t actually on the menu! You have to try a mango tango! The alcohol they serve is all house spirits however if you ask for the branded alcohol they do give it to you with no extra charge. The pacha night club was very hit and miss, sometimes you would go in and it would be playing Mexican music and other times you could go in and it would be playing rnb but it really depending on the company you had. We spent a few nights in the sports bar playing cards with other couples we met, this was generally quietish however one night we went in and it was booming! They have a variety of snacks in here that you can warm up in the microwave such as burgers and hotdogs. We didn’t really use this much. The entertainment team are fantastic! They work so hard throughout the day. The pool activities start around 10am everyday and they go all the way through till about 4. They are all really friendly and come chatting with you around the pool and get to know you. They throw a pool party every Monday with a foam machine which lasts a couple of hours and then when we was there there was a white night beach party. This was one of our favourite nights as there is a cancun sign all lit up a nice little bar on the beach and a dj. They bring balloons out to dance with and then have fire breathers too. We did quite a few excursions whilst we were there which we really did enjoy. We did the natural watermark Xelha. This was good and included snorkelling, cliff jumping, zip lining into the water, bike riding, water slides and a lazy river. We also paid to swim with the dolphins here which was average. You could also pay extra to do an aerial bike tour, sea trek and to swim with sting rays. Our friends did the dolphins over at dolphin discovery and we wished we did them there as the got a better package. We also did xplor and this was our favourite! This included driving a buggy through caves and rivers, zip lining through the jungle, water rafting through caves and a river walk through cenotes. We did the Captain Hook pirate ship which was really fun and also coco bongos! Coco bongos is a must it was so good! We did a few nights out at the clubs including mandala beach and la vaquita. The clubs are expensive to get in on average $60 but this is with all your drinks included so doesn’t work out that bad. Overall, we had the best stay at this hotel. The hotel is exceptionally clean and caters for everyone. The quality of the service we received by all the staff was brilliant and we can’t wait to book again for next year!

Bad food, bad drinks.

I drank 26 smifnoff shots in two hours. Was completely sober could not even sleep. Maybe the cheap stuff is real, but smirnoff is water. Do not eat any meat on the buffet. Nightly dinners were good. Never been so happy to be home!

We stayed here the first 10 days of November! The staff...were exceptional, so friendly and helpful and I mean every individual we came across, one particular waitress who especially stood out for us was Adriana at the buffet restaurant, she was a delight!! The Room...was excellent with a view to die for, lovely comfortable beds and a glorious shower! The Food...what’s not to like with a wondrous buffet restaurant that has a selection of just about everything, then there is a choice of a Chinese, a Steakhouse or an Italian restaurant all of which we couldn’t fault...no reservation required👍🏼 The Pool and beach...there are three pools one with a swim up bar, loads of sun-beds both around the pools and down on the beach, it’s a fabulous beach and bring your snorkel👍🏼 The Hotels Entertainment... there’s a number of bars and they have their own Pacha night club, the live music in the main open air seated area was brilliant with professional acts and the staff shows were also very enjoyable!! The Location...is perfect if you want to be in walking distance of the main night life of Cancun, with all its bars and clubs...the main:_must experience nightclub is Coco Bongo’s!!! So we would definitely recommend this hotel👍🏼😎👍🏼
