The food sucked.there was no coffee pot or iron in the room.we didn't get new wash cloths every day. They let family members use the facilities that I paid for. Don't go there.

The service was excellent. The room was great except that either we had no air comditioning or very poor. We were on the third floor and the sun was brutal. The food was a little repetitive but never went hungry. The pool had a fire in the pump house so the pool wasn't up to par. The beach was great! The bars were great and the bartenders were very helpful. Would recommend to family and friends.

I was under the impression that I was going to have some privacy because I was traveling with my three small children I paid extra for the family room and what the family room include was a extra twin size bed. So we had to queen size beds together and one twin size bed. We don't even sleep with our children in our own house nonetheless on vacastion. I was totally dissapointed with the room. The response from the hotel management was that this was their biggest room. Another problem was trying to get in the swimming pool, they dont have easy access to getting in and out of the pool with small children. My wife almost broke her leg coming out of the pool with our baby since the stairs were very slippery she slipped her foot and ended up with a big bruise on her leg. I will not recommend people with small children to visit this hotel.

This resort deserves a 2 apple rating,at best. The Food is BEYOND HORRENDOUS. Its the SAME THING every night. Mealtimes were dreaded. It was enough to keep us alive and that is it!!! The "King Size" bed was 2 double pushed together,so you either have to squeeze onto one or somebody sleeps in the crack. Yes, you can visit the pools & restaurants at the other RIUs next door...but a pool is a pool...and is the exact same food!! Why would you go to a different restaurant for the SAME FOOD? Waaaay too many trees. I came there to vacation in the sun, not lay in a forest. The beach is very very narrow and covered with trees. Most of the staff barely spoke english. There is NO plan for rain! The entertainment staff has nothing going on...it rained for 3 days straight and they didnt even have any indoor entertainment at all. And the booze was watered down...though i fixed that by ordering everything with mucho rum. Ive been to a lot of all-inclusives, most with ratings similar to this one...but this was by far the worst. I would NEVER RETURN!

Good value for price(23 year old party girl review)
Jan 15 2012
I returned from my vacation to Riu Bachata less then a week ago. There was a group of four of us between the ages of 18-23. Overall for what we paid this all-inclusive was a good value. I have been to many high end all-inclusives with my family and in comparison to previous resorts I've stayed in Riu bachata was very average, not so great and not so bad. It was a great vacation for four girls our age as there happens to be allot of young people which made it allot of fun. The swim up bar is the place to be during the day, some of the days there I felt like we were at a Vegas pool party.

Yup they’ve been sold to The Senator resorts group. Shutting down for 6 months starting in April 2018 for about a $30 million Reno. Reopening as a true 5 star adults only resort! They also bought the sister resorts next door but they won’t be allowed in as in the past. As for the remainder of this winter? Be prepared to suffer some. Tired rooms and only the wifi is in the lobby but it’s free and fast. Ask them to make blender drinks, better than the ones out of the slush machines. Ala carts can only be booked early same day. Tired Tv reception and picture very bad. Buffet ok. Ala carts not. Entertainment? Ha ha enough said. Some employees are disgruntled some not. My advise? Wait until the renovations are finished. May cost a bit more but I’m told it’ll be worth it. We’re going back then. It’s been a slice these past 8 years watching it deteriorate. Keep you posted. Cheers.

Awful Hotel - I do not know how people can give it a good review!

This hotel was so below our expectations we had to call our agency and have them transfer us to another hotel the day after our arrival. Firstly, everything about this hotel is musty, outdated and dirty. The grounds are not maintained well at all and the room was filthy. There was hair all over out bedding upon our arrival, water damage and mold throughout the bathroom and a strong stench of must and cigarette odor, despite the rooms being "smoke-free". We paid for a king-sized bed but instead got two small beds put together with a gaping space in the middle. The sheets were so thin and inadequate we might as well not have had any. The towels were a brown color, I can only assume intentionally so to hide and potential stains. The safe was so small our tiny laptop could not even be stored inside. The food was mediocre at best, the water tasted horribly, the staff was often inattentive, the drinks were of very poor quality, the gym was small, outdated and dirty, and the list goes on and on and on. I always aim to be as objective as I can in my reviews and I understand not all hotels are created equal. I have been to very high-end luxury hotels and some average ones, and it is expected that one will get what one pays for. That being said, however, this hotel was by no means "cheap" and what we got was below any acceptable or reasonable standards. The most disappointed part of it all is that I have been to two other Riu hotels before, including one in Punta Cana, and my experience at both was wonderful. The décor, service, cleanliness, food, etc. was all more than acceptable. This particular one, however, should be avoided at all costs. Finally, while there were certainly people who were enjoying themselves, there was an air of boredom and general dissatisfaction which was palpable, both among the staff and many of the guests.

Really enjoyed it

We are a family of 7, two families. Just returned from a 2 week holiday at Riu Bachata. It was really enjoyable. Food and drink good. Wide variety. Entertainment team were just fantastic. They worked from 10am until 12am. Always so full of energy. Every morning they would walk around the pool saying good morning or high fives. Sun-beds plentiful. Pool so refreshing and a good size. I loved the swim up bar. Always a good way to chat with other holiday makers. The rooms are a little dated, sockets were coming from the walls but functional. The hotel has been taken over and is due to be refurbished I believe. There are 3 in our party. My self, my husband and our 26 year old son, who is the size of a grown man! In our room there we 2 beds. Definitely not big enough for my husband and I to be in one and our son in another. We phoned reception and they sent a bed up the next day so quickly resolved. All the staff from the manager to the cleaners were fantastic. They would always make sure they spoke to you. Bar staff are great too. It’s worth tipping $10 and you’ll not need to go the bar for this evening and make sure they look after you the next time you are at the bar. Hansel was so lovely. He would always make a point to come over to say hello to us all. We booked for new year. So arrived on New Year’s Day. I must admit in our second week the standards did drop a little and only one food station was open. It meant a bit more queuing but they soon went down. So to summarise. Nice hotel, a little dated, food and drink was good but a big shout-out to ALL the staff. I hope the new hotel chain keeps them on as they truly are wonderful.

Friendliest resort we have been to!

We have just returned from bachata and I can say we had a great time! I try to get away yearly and love to review these places honestly and give people a real sense of what they are like, so here goes! This resort was SUPER friendly-- the staff, the other guests, even the birds! ;) This is what truly made our trip a 5 star experience. Go to the swim up bar; you will make so many friends! The clientele was probably 70% canadian, 29% british, and 1% American, despite most reviews here being from the UK. To break it down now: FOOD: The food here can vary day by day, with some days being better than others. you'll always find something you like. Dominican bread is the best! Sometimes it got repetitive after a week, but the a la cartes mixed it up (yes you DO make reservations in the buffet in the morning for these, come early for the steakhouse but the other two you can come around 8). Service in the a la cartes was on point; service in the buffet was sometimes a little lacking, but it's not so tough to get your own drink! ROOM: Room check in was a little chaotic, but the rooms were clean, spacious, mini fridge restocked. Cute flowers and towel art. Good AC. We were in block 11 which was nice and close to everything but far enough to get a good sleep. Bring conditioner! They give you shampoo and soap. Barely any critters, but it IS dominican! HOT water for showers, this hasn't happened yet for me in dominican! POOL AND BEACH: We spent the majority of time at the swim up bar and had a blast! Staff are constantly cleaning and collecting plates so it's kept clean. Not enough bathrooms around the pool or beach area, main bathroom was in lobby-- close enough when sober maybe LOL. The beach is not too windy and the water is great, but the ground of the ocean is very rocky in parts. It is smoother down by the old mambo. BARS: Always smiling staff! Bars served efficiently even while busy. A 24hr bar right beside the stage. Coffee machines with many options. Enjoy this place until Senator takes over in April; then enjoy it after too!

Great first hot holiday

We booked 2 rooms for a family of 5 Dec 28-Jan 4 2018. The hotel was able to accommodate our adjoining room & second floor requests even though we only booked 2 weeks before travelling. The rooms were dated, but clean. Kind of weird having a safe with a key. They warned us not to keep the safe key in the room, or with the room keys, so kind of a hassle especially bc we had 2 rooms and 2 safes. The food was great, there was lots of selection of local foods as well as family friendly options. We did not try the steakhouse - we were usually still at the pool when people started to line up, so cant comment on the quality of that food. We did not try the Italian either, as we couldn't even find it until our last night (we didn't really look too hard though). New Years Eve you had to sign up for a sitting at 6:30 or 8:30, and had assigned tables so everyone could fit. There was lobster & other seafood, beautiful fresh fruit carved into animals, ice sculptures. Very nice! The pool was great, lots of beach chairs, and even managed to usually get 5 chairs together in the sun. People did save their chairs all day by placing a towel on them, but we didn't see any issues. The towel cards were kind of a hassle, one of my kids lost their card & we just went to the front desk & got a new one. The beach was also nice, the sand was a bit coarse, and along the water line there was a definite line of coral / shells. To avoid that, either just take one more step into the water, or one step back closer to the beach, and no issues. The water sports were a bit disappointing. We weren't able to use the kayaks, wind surfing, pedal boats all week as there was a red flag every day. The liquor was liquor, if its not strong enough for you, get another one! I found the bartenders to be pretty generous with the freehanded pour. Slushy drinks (without the rum) were a favorite for the kids. The service in all areas was great. Everyone smiling & seeming to be happy with their jobs. For teenagers - there wasn't a lot to do after supper time. The pool closed at 6, and my teen boys weren't really interested in the entertainment, so often were in the lobby using the wifi. The evening entertainment was kind of cheesy, but a variety every night. They did have a Dominican band for New years eve & handed out party hats, noise makers, etc just before midnight. The entertainment staff was ok. They had a variety of activities & tried hard to get lots of people involved. We had fun at the water polo and some of the pool games. There were some maple bugs (that's we we call them anyway) on the deck at night by the windows & they would come into the room if the screen was left open, but they were just a nuisance. Didn't see any bugs that I was worried about. There is a street of small shops with souvenirs between the Bachata & the Merengue. The vendors are pretty aggressive about getting you to come into their shop, but wiling to bargain on the prices. I would suggest checking at a couple of places before buying anything, because it seemed like they just made up prices, not many items had a price tag on them. Basic souvenirs in all the shops. There is also an area of shops by the Amber Cove cruise port. I found these to be a little more aggressive & kind of sleazy. One vendor actually closed the door behind my teenage daughter & I after we entered the shop & it felt scary. Overall, for a first hot holiday, I was satisfied. The hotel was clean enough, the food was good enough & we got a pretty good deal considering we were there over the New Years Eve weekend. I'm not sure I would go back to the Dominican just because of the length of the flights for us, but am glad I went.
