My husband and I just returned from a week at the Renaissance Resort in Aruba. We had a fantastic time. The staff are over the top friendly and accommodating. The steak house in the resort was fantastic as well as the buffet. They take you to their private beach which is absolutely beautiful. They just cater to your every need. The common area bar is also a good time. You can easily walk over to the other part of the Renaissance which includes larger pool as well as an on-site beach area. The location was great and close to everything we wanted to experience. We are already planning a return trip. If you are able, pick all-inclusive as things in Aruba tend to be expensive. This can save you money, especially if you like the island drinks and fantastic food.

Wouldn't give up the private island for the glitz and glamour of the high rise section

Although the hotel isn't brand new, I wouldn't trade the location or the private island for any of the hotels in the high rise section. Our friends all seem to stay in the high rise section on Palm Beach, so we weren't sure what we were getting into by booking in the heart of downtown. Boy am I glad we did. If you're looking for a variety of things to do, see, and eat all within a quarter mile radius, stay downtown. First of all, as a Platinum Elite member, I expected and got a room upgrade on arrival. This only offered us a partial (leaning over the balcony) view of the ocean, but honestly... how much time were we planning on being in our room while we were in Aruba? We woke up, looked out the window, and we were out for the rest of the day... so really, it's like a cruise ship... the room/view matters only as much as the amount of time you're planning on spending in it. When we booked we didn't realize that beach suites were located across the street - they're totally separate hotels, which totally confirmed the adults only vs family friendly piece that we were not confident we'd get - but we did! We chose the Marina hotel because it is adult-exclusive... I don't regret our decision, however, I have a tendency to forget that 18 years old is considered an "adult" and also happens to be the legal drinking age in Aruba - wish I put more thought into that before choosing between the two hotels. Children have bedtimes... 18-year-olds do not! Especially those who are taking advantage of the fact that they can drink. I'm grateful for the complimentary room upgrade only because it allowed us an exterior room and after the first night, we realized that how important that really is. It didn't completely insulate us from the night time noises as the bar was packed far into the early morning hours and the music was loud and all bass, but it did make a difference. However, I have to say that our bed was SO COMFORTABLE that we very well may have been able to fall asleep in an interior room regardless of the all-night bar party! Our time was split between excursions and lounging in hammocks on the private island. It was the most beautiful and relaxing place I've ever been. I honestly wanted to stay at The Renaissance because they have a private island off the main island and the thought of random flamingos just strolling up to you (which they do) was just too cool to pass up. It turns out that all of the little tucked away coves with hammocks and cozy lounge chairs are what will bring us back. I was shocked at how much privacy we actually found on that tiny little island! It was like we had our own private beach for 5 days! The island itself is split in half with one side (flamingo island) being adults only and the other side (iguana island) family friendly. Again, I was looking forward to the adults only side as we were not looking to share our time with kids, but once again, I found out that it wasn't the children I wanted to stay away from... Flamingo island was overrun with drunk millennials posing for selfies with the FIVE resident flamingos - it was a madhouse that looked more like a photo shoot than anything else. And because the birds seemed to favor one corner of the beach, which happens to be the entrance to the beach itself, we spent more time trying to navigate around the crowd than we spent on that side of the island. The iguana side was much better (quieter, slower paced, VERY relaxing, and actually prettier). Overall, it was a fantastic experience in an amazingly beautiful country and I would've gladly slept in a tent if that's what it came down to. All of the staff at the hotel and the island were just so friendly (which has always been my experience with Marriott) but Betty and Glenn were over the top and made us feel like we were the only people there! They take "customer service" to heart and made our stay even that much better! I won't book any other hotel when we return.

Beautiful hotel

3 nights here for our 30th anniversary. Great service at breakfast, front desk, room, and bars. Absolutely, loved Flamingo Beach (although baffled at people who spent HOURS taking pictures of themselves with the flamingos instead of just enjoying this beautiful island). Short boat ride but always enjoyable. This hotel is also walking distance to some great restaurants. Would definitely stay here again.

Room with a view, but lacking hot water.

We recently returned from our third stay at the Renaissance Marina. I absolutely love this hotel, from the Flamingos on Renaissance Island, the fitness center, and consistently the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. Being in the downtown area is great, less crowded and quiet. The service here is impeccable, from bottled water at our arrival to many free drink coupons as we waited for an upgraded room. The 2nd time we stayed here we had a top floor room in the corner which was absolutely amazing. This year did not seem to go in our favor. We intended to get an upgraded room. I was obsessed to get the same room we previously had. Unfortunately, upon arrival nothing was available. Magically, a room with a view became available on the 5th floor. We waited for it to be ready. When we got there, yes, we had an awesome ocean view, but with the tiniest of bathrooms. I thought by upgrading you get a bigger bathroom but I very wrong. It was definitely not couple friendly and took twice as long to get ready. There was one vanity and the toilet was about 12” in front of half of it. For 2 tall people with long arms, it was pretty miserable at times. We were in a room overlooking the pool and Marina this time. Both previous times we stayed in a corner room near the I love Aruba sign. The bathroom was larger at our room on the 6th floor 2 years ago, large enough to put all of our luggage on the tiled area, which we loved. Our room this year had no space to put our stuff. There was a small table with a large booth, a chair, 1 luggage rack, and limited room on the dresser. 4 bags took up all the space. We also had issues with the lack of hot water. We tried running the shower at 8 pm the first night and absolutely no hot water came out. It wasn’t until the sink was on too, that the hot water came out. And this continued for the length of our stay, though got slightly better throughout the week. There was also mold by the shower. Otherwise, the room was comfortable, there were 2 outlets on each side of the most comfortable bed ever. We had not slept that good since our last stay and are considering buying a bed from Renaissance. Also during our stay the elevators were messed up, one side got stuck and both repeatedly went up regardless if the down arrow was pressed. Many times we had to hit the button a 2nd time to get it to move after the door closed. The fitness center is wonderful. Great machines, great music, air conditioning is cranked up, great ambience, and not super crowded. We miss the fitness center already. We also loved the Blue Bar and L.G. Smith Steakhouse. Overall, we will continue to come here, we love this hotel. The flamingos on the beach are the most incredible experience, as a bird lover, I could watch them all day every day. Next time though, I will request a room with more space in the bathroom.
