40th anniversary trip

We booked our time to Nuevo Vallarta with our travel agent We chose the grand Krystal which is a new hotel about a year old. We stayed in the original "Bel Air" which was closest to the beach. We were in a junior suite on the 6th floor and we had an awesome view of the Pacific Ocean! Our room was wonderful! We couldn't complain about it still all! The two restaurants that were open served up great food. The swim up bar was under construction and it will be very nice once it is done. The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained! Now, the drinks! We found drinks to be watered down and ended up going to the Mega Store to purchase our own liquor. The two choices for beer were :Tecate and Indio......two of the worst Mexican Cervezas (according to our tastes) We would stay at different resort next time.

Great resort

Please do NOT believe all the bad reviews you read about this place. We are here right now for 10 days with our grown children, 2 boys and their wives. Check in was smooth and efficient and yes we were brought Champaine upon arrival. Francisco at the front desk was excellent. The resort is beautiful, the 3 pools are gorgeous and the staff is extremely friendly. We have 3 swim out rooms and they are amazing. Large with a table and couch and king size bed. Go for this room you wont be disappointed! I would say 95% of the Reno’s are done. The Italian restaurant Rissoto is not open yet but there is 3 a la carts open. Mexican, the grill and Chinese/Japanese and the buffet. 2 snack bars with nachos, fish fries (excellent) etc. The coco cafe is open 24hrs a day, where you can get salads, sandwiches, dessert, speciality hot drinks, specialty cold drinks, etc. And YES it is all inclusive (no additional charge) unlike some reviews I read. There is a rooftop lounge tanning area with a small pool to cool off in. The food is very good and the servers are very efficient and polite. Some do not speak English very well but you are in Mexico, have some patience they figure things out. They do have nightly entertainment but sometimes you aren’t sure where it is, we sat last night and waited in front of CoCo Cafe where it always is But it was actually in the ballroom so we missed most of it. They DO have free bike tours, everyday at 10am. It’s a 15-20 min walk to the Mega (Mexican Walmart) or a $4 cab ride. $8 cab ride to Bucerias open market. About a $20-22 cab ride into the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta. I’m not much of an ocean person but there are people in the ocean everyday, so it is swimable. Weather has been 30 Celsius everyday, beautiful. I would definitely recommend this resort to friends it is really nice. The only thing i wish they enforced is the smoking in the smoking areas. Cigarette smoke really bothers me and I had to leave the pool area today because a lady and her husband were smoking every 10 minutes and to lazy to get up and smoke in the smoking area.that is the only reason I didn’t give my review 5 stars.

Not quite ready to be a UVC

Our trip started out on the wrong foot- Long lines at the check in counter and no special concierge for Club members, or special greeting and accustomed amenities. Eventually, though, we met Martha, who apologized that they were trying to reach these levels. Rooms were adequate but dated, during a conference held there for 3 days - there was litlle or no food left at the buffet. No seasonal decorations. Incredible staff, but this is the first UVC resort that I will not be returning to. Management was inadequate

Do not stay here

We booked through a travel agent and fun jets. There was mold in our first room and they moved us to a second room with mold. It's all inclusive, but 3 of the 7 places to eat were under construction or closed. The infinity pool and swim up bar were closed and under construction. The teen center advertised wasn't built yet. The spa is next to the drive way so you can hear cars during your relaxing spa treatments. And the resort credits were a joke.

Has potential, but needs improvement

So I will start our review by saying that the hotel had a 900 guest convention check out on our second day here. That kind of capacity would put any hotel in the area on the edge. The FOOD: lack of selection seems to be the going theme here. The Asian restaurant only has three appetizer options, three entree's, and a small selection of sushi. My husband really enjoyed the sushi, and the sweet and sour chicken was great. The ramen soup and pork curry left much to be desired. We've been here for 3 nights and the Italian has not been open for even one of them. The Grill was the best food we've had. Decent French onion soup, great salmon and sea bass. I will echo other reviews and say that breakfast and lunch are small subpar buffets. And food from room service and pool grill are cold. The ROOM: Small bathroom but livable. Love the rain shower head. Bed was comfortable but our bedding was not clean (stained). Had a bit of trouble getting the front desk to recognize how disgusted I was with this. Small mini fridge with beer, juice, and water. We were in a swim out room and loved the ease of having a pool right there. The HOTEL: we chose this hotel because they recently became an AM Resort when they were rebranded to a Reflect. The hotel definitely has potential in that the pools are big and sparkling, while we were here we did not have to fight for a pool chair at all, and we absolutely loved the sky bar. That said one of the employees mentioned that the new brand requires different standards than they previously did, and lots of the employees either left or are resistive to that change. It's very obvious that they are understaffed. There is no pool service. There is no drink service. Even the bars usually only have one or two employees. I would be interested to see what changes are made in the next year because it's obvious they're still dealing with a lot of the rebranding challenges. Swim up bar is now open, which is a plus. Hot tubs are actual 4 person hot tubs, not in ground jacuzzis. Very dirty by the end of the day. There were a couple of employees that absolutely stood out! Magdalena in the sky bar was the first employee to make an effort to get to know us and speak with us, and she laughed with me about our lack of language skills. Demian is a new pool concierge and spoke with me and my husband at length about the hotel and soccer and the area. Andrea was our host and she was fabulous. It seems like prior to the rebranding, this Resort definitely catered to locals. Not much signage in English. I do really wish that more of the staff spoke some English, just because I worry about their ability to attract and keep American and European tourists if they continue to have such strong language barriers. Overall a shaky 3 star, but could be better with time and proper service training.
