8th Night in Costa Rica

WHO: Caravan Tour RX81110 WHAT (PROS): - interestingly enough, this hotel was very modern and Western compared to others during our stay in Costa Rica - great food variety and taste - average sized room, but pretty luxurious linens and bathroom WHAT (CONS): - it was extremely crowded during our hotel stay because a local high school had their prom/grad night and the elevators took forever and a day for us to travel through the different floors, especially with luggage in tow WHEN: 11/17/2018

Adrian at the main reception was particularly helpful when I had a tour pickup mishap, he took the initiative to call the tour company directly and was firm in assisting that they make an accommodation for me. This was above and beyond, since it had nothing to do with his hotel, but he wanted to ensure the entire travel experience was exceptional for me. I was so grateful for the extra help that day.

I was charged more than I was quoted when I reserved the room.

I made the reservation through Expedia. When I arrived at the hotel I was charged more than I was quoted.. My reservation was for October 4 through October 9. One night it was really hot in the room and I called the front desk. They said that they would send someone to check it. This was at 10:00 pm. An hour later nobody had checked it. I called again and they said that they were working on it. At 1:00am in the morning it was still hot and the problem had not been repaired and I went down to the reception area. They said they would send someone to check it. 30 minutes later someone came and told us we needed to move to another room in another building At 1:00 am in the morning. We declined. We were not offered anything for what happened.

Overpriced - aged rooms and poor service

I have stayed at the Intercontinental Costa Rica several times in the last couple and every time I walk out disappointed. Rooms are in desperate need of a renovation: old bathrooms, clogged drains that make the showers flood (gross) and loud A/C systems. On top of this, reception personnel are not particularly friendly and could use a training on client service. On the positive side, the hotel has several restaurants that I’ve found to be very good including The Market (international food), Nau (sushi) and a great steak house. Finally, if you’re an IGH Spire Elite member (like me), don’t expect to get an upgrade as they always claim to have high occupancy.

CLADEA Congress

I recently participated in the CLADEA Congress that took place in this hotel and stayed there too. The stay was very pleasant and service was very corteous. The hotel setting is very nice. The only recommendation that I have is to better plan the lunch buffets for large groups, as the serving lines were very long.
