Playa Mazatlan Beach Hotel

Very clean hotel, Nice Beach and good security. Food was good and they offered several restaurants as options over the buffet. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The pools were in great condition and clean. The kids activities were good but not well staffed while we were there. We would stay here again.

We have been there many times and like the hotel very much as long as you stay away from the side (south) that Joes Oyster Bar is on. Our first night against our better judgement we had room 129 ànd the music finally stopped at 4:58 a.m. My husband went to the desk first thing in the morning and they moved us to he other side without any problems. Alex the trainer in the gym is very nice and has been there 24 years. Great place to stay.

Great Hotel - BEWARE of the Jewellery Store across the street

First Hotel Playa is AMAZING. Nothing bad to say about it. We've stayed there a number of times and it's 100 % safe, reliable and trustworthy. The staff is fantastic. There isn't anywhere else in Mazatlan where we'd rather stay or would recommend. However ... across the street and down a block or so, is a jewellery store called "DIAMOND & GEM IN THE PACIFIC" which sells fraudulent merchandise. From my sales receipt, they also go by the name JEWEL EMPORIUM. I was sold a ring which was to be 925 silver with Fire Opal and White Sapphire stones. They even wrote it on my sales receipt! When I returned to Canada, I paid to have the ring formally appraised and was given a certificate stating that none of the stones were what they said they were. All were all Cubic Zerconia. The store was asking 28,500 pesos (approx 1,530 USD) but luckily I had bargained them down to 3,500 pesos (approx 188 USD). At such a deep discount, I knew it was a risk but for the price, I was willing to take it. I'm afraid for others who don't bargain as hard as I do. Be careful, they're crooks who should be out of business. They do an extreme disservice to the wonderful people of Mexico. I'm posting this on Hotel Playa's review so it gets seen by others staying in close proximity. Also, perhaps the Hotel can exert some pressure through the cities business groups.

Currently my last day here, enjoying the view and writing this review (son is napping). We loved it here!! Everything is clean (they are always cleaning!) There is currently construction happening but it is during the day so you won't notice....except if you have kids and they nap in the room but they seem to rotate the location of construction daily. Pools are heated (except the kids pirate ship area unfortunately). Food is great, different selection each night so I'm not sure why everyone says it gets boring. Breakfast is great, omelette station is a must! We did dinner at la terezza each night, carnival night was fun. The music from the house band was more repetitive than the food. We had the garden view room, I spoke to the front desk via whatsapp before coming **tip** ask for a partial ocean view! I came with the intention of upgrading to ocean view but when I saw the view from our room I didn't bother! (Pics included) staff were friendly, front desk is probably the least friendliest which is a bit weird. They allowed late check out for free 2pm which is good for us from Toronto as our pick up is 345 for our 6pm flight. As a single traveler I felt completely safe, walked with my toddler everywhere! Only issue was daycare. It was weird as we had to be there at 10 to register and come back at 11 to start and they told me I had to get him at 12 even though they advertise camp as a 10-5 program. The staff were accommodating as I explained that I had a massage at 11:30 that is an hour long. Also, the hot stone massage was Amazing! It is a full body massage so be aware of that. Beach vendors are terribly annoying. You'll be saying 'no thank you' every 3 minutes. Overall a great stay, I'll be back and recommending this resort to everyone as well! We were in room 306.

3.5 stars that feels way more than that...

After spending Christmas time in a nearby city, we decided to stay a few more days in Mazatlan before heading back to Vancouver, BC. We decided to stay at this hotel because of its long tradition in Mazatlan and several off line recommendations. I must said, this hotel is not perfect, but they do work hard to fix their mistakes. My recommendation is, if it's too noisy or not clean or anything else, let them know. They will do their best to make your stay the best possible. Lastly, one special mention to the staff in the Italian restaurant, specifically Victor, our waiter, who went above and beyond to keep us happy.

First let me say that, the hotel is very nice. The location to downtown is the best part, no cab rides. Walking distance to most things. The facilities are very clean, and constantly being cleaned. we stayed in the Boutique room, the Isla Vernado. Wow what a view! We will definitely be going back again next year!

February in Mazatlan

We will be staying at the Playa Mazatlan for the month of February. Of all the places we have vacationed during the winter the Playa Mazatlan is our favourite. It is where we feel comfortable, safe and relaxing. Staying at the Playa Mazatlan is like going home to visit our Mexican friends. From the Concierge Elizabeth to the front desk staff to the waiters in the restaurants and on the beach you will receive excellent service during your stay. We enjoy our Deluxe Ocean View room overlooking the beach palapa's and listening to the waves crash against the warm sands during the quiet of the evening. During the day you can see several pelicans flying overhead or skimming the ocean looking for a fresh meal. There is plenty to do on the beach like boating, swimming, parasailing and I assure you the vendors are very polite and a simple no thank you will have them moving on. The Playa Mazatlan is well located in the Gold Zone with plenty of good restaurants and shops within walking distance as you leave the hotel lobby. We love eating breakfast in the Playa Mazatlan Hotel at La Terraza buffet restaurant overlooking the ocean with plenty of sunshine, warm breezes and friendly waiters. For a romantic evening there is Georgini's a lovely Italian restaurant with a beautiful view of the ocean and great sunsets on the outdoor terrace. The Italian home made food and desserts are to die for. There are several pools and hot tubs including the new swim up pool opened last year. You don't want to miss the entertainment like the Fiesta with traditional Mexican singers and dancers and on February 25 Joan Kennedy will be doing her show at the Playa. Joan is a talented Canadian country singer from the east coast singing in harmony with her backup band of family and friends. If you are in Mazatlan on February 25 this is one show you don't want to miss. With less than a month to go the excitement is starting to build. If you are staying at the Playa in February come by and say hello. We are usually under a palapa decorated with Canada banners at the end of the beach.
