I am almost afraid to post this review because I'd love to keep Playa Azul a hidden secret, but I don't think that is fair to this amazing staff and hotel. We just returned from two weeks at Playa Azul, our second visit there. I cannot say enough about the warmth of the staff. We were greeted like old friends and treated that way the entire stay. Between Carlos, Darwin, Kermit, Angel and many more, we had impeccable attention. We recognized many of the guests from past years as well. Also, it was such a safe environment that I felt comfortable letting my teen-agers make friends and explore, which I know they appreciated. Additionally, the rooms and food were quite reasonably priced and high quality. Rooms were clean and golf is included! Golf is a requirement for my husband who played 7 rounds in our two week stay. I played twice and my son, once. We estimated that we saved $1000 in greens fees with the Playa Azul golf package. This is not a fancy all-inclusive experience, but a tranquilo, relaxed family approach. I think I found a place to go every year. If you like a low-key vacation where everything is taken care of for you, Playa Azul is unbeatable.

The hotel sits on a beautiful beach (Playa Azul), where you can snorkel, dive, jet ski, etc. The staff are super friendly and are always willing to help with anything you need and answer questions. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and had a beautiful room looking out over the ocean. The rooms were quite and clean and fairly spacious. Snorkeling wise, we saw a lot of worth while sea creatures, including two types of moray eels, 10+ rays, barracuda, among many others.

hi, stayed here two times now over the christmas / new year period. Its a great location, a little dated maybe. beds are comfortable, staff is great, breakfast is great, food is good. beach area, no complaints. i'll definatley go back. some downsides though, wifi is barely usable, they could definately upgrade this, i think it might be shared with the beach club bar next door that they own, because it gets particularly bad during the cruise ship time of day when the bar gets filled up. the other side, (south) has two beach clubs on top of each other, cruise ships fill these places up every day mostly and the water quickly becomes congested with stand up paddle board classes, jet ski rentals, flotillas of snorkellers and speed boat rentals, im amazed nobody has been killed with all these inexperienced operators of all these things in the water at the same time, virtually on top of each other. boats and jet skis come very close to the swimming areas and indeed pass through them. doesnt seem like anybody cares. elevator in the north wing was out of service while we were there, no big deal apart from arriving and leaving draggin suitcases up and down stairs. there is really no snorkelling in front of this hotel, if you go to the right, in front of the westin restaurant, there is some life there. thats about it, i do love this place, no decent single malt whisky behind the bar is an issue for me though. get some laphroaig please.

Great Place!

My wife and I stayed at Playa Azul in Cozumel for 6 nights. Can not say enough good things about the hotel. Excellent beach, friendly staff, great food and drinks. Rooms are super clean and well air conditioned. The beach area is spectacular and we were always able to find chairs available on the beach. Great snorkeling right of the beach as well. When we return to the island we will definitely stay here again. Thanks again Playa Azul!

Smaller quiet hotel with snorkeling beach

We had an oceanfront family suite so it was a nice size room. It looked a bit dated but was clean overall. Our building had 3 stories with no elevator. The bedroom had 2 double size beds - we thought we were getting a King size. The beds were comfortable but fairly short - my son is 6’ and his feet hung off the end. Our teens slept on the twins in the living room. They were more comfortable than they looked but a bit narrow. Second floor had a shuffleboard and billiards table. A couple things we did not care for: Wifi was spotty - best in the lobby, AC vent in bedroom ceiling was quite loud, toilets could not handle much or they would clog, on our last night, the AC was not working in the room so it was quite warm. Beach was clean and snorkeling right off beach you could see some smaller fish. We brought our own snorkels and mask but I think they had them to rent. We heard the beach here was much nicer than Playa del Carmen because of all the seaweed there. The staff was friendly but actually I've never met an unfriendly staff member at any resort. This hotel was very quiet, actually a little music would have been nice. Sometimes we could overhear music from place next door. You could walk down the beach once you went through the pool areas of a couple places to the north, like the Westin. We were there 4 nights but only saw waiters on the beach for drinks & food 1 day. You could go up to the outdoor bar and order though. The breakfast buffet was quite good - you could ask for made to order omelets, eggs, & pancakes which we found out by seeing others do so. We ate in the restaurant one night and it was fine. One night we went across the street to Lobster House (there’s 2 different restaurants with that name! One of them ONLY serves lobster dinners). We went to the one with a menu and it was good. There’s also a burger place over there. Our favorite meals were downtown (cab ride was only about 10 mins and about $5 in pesos or $8 USD.) We ate at Panchos Backyard & Kinta - both excellent. Kinta was more upscale with smaller high quality portions. We went on a dune buggy tour with Cozumel Tours to Punta Sur. It was our favorite part of the trip!
