After many visits to hotels at the south end, we decided to try the North Hotel Zone. Playa Azul is a smallish resort, which we enjoyed. Beautiful pool, clean rooms (if a bit small) and wonderful people made this a relaxing week. The distance to downtown is not far and we enjoyed visiting favorite restaurants and shops. The restaurants at Playa Azul were very good. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh and the dinner often featured specials to vary the menu. Great vacation.

Playa Azul is fabulous! We've stayed here many times and will be back again. The same staff has been here since our very first trip. This attests to the charactet of the owners. They all care for each other and are a big family. You are welcomed into the family at Playa Azul and treated like you are the bright spot in their day.

Everyone, without except, at the hotel was wonderful! The staff went above and beyond to ensure that my family was comfortable, relaxed and well cared for. I am looking very forward to taking advantage of their fine hospitality in the very near future

Amazing place to stay

I am currently spending a week at this hotel. It is my 3rd time staying here but 5th time eating or enjoying their beach and bar. Beautiful beach, you do need water shoes but there is plenty of sand for the kids to play in. Lots of shaded beach chairs. Even during a busy week still enough chairs. Breakfast is included with made to order items as well as buffet. And I have really enjoyed their dinners. But the best part is the staff. Some have been here for as long as we have been visiting (15years). They all take the time to get to know you and great you as a long lost family member. Everyone smiles and greats you. And as a solo traveler this week they have gone out of their way to make me feel comfortable and engage me in conversation. I feel safe here as they know I am here and would notice if I was missing. The water is great, snorkel from shore or the pier, saw a cow fish, needle fish, trumpet fish, rays, flounder, and a school of young barracuda. The pool is heated right now so comfortable temp. Room air condition worked great and was quiet. I slept great, beds may be on the firm side but I didn’t notice as I was exhausted after a day of sun and snorkel and feel right asleep. Rooms are not sound proof. If you get a room overlooking the pool you will here kids in it even at night so if that bothers you ask for a room not facing the pool. And the rooms ending in 06 are right by the stairs so you do hear everything. But again it didn’t bother me or keep me awake. But if it is an issue for you ask for a different room. This is a relaxed, smaller resort. There are places nearby that you can rent water sports equipment but not right on site. Not a party scene. Rooms aren’t fancy but comfortable. A little musty til you turn on the fan or a/c or open your patio door but that is expected in this climate. Rooms are clean. The counter in the bathroom is cracked and just sealed. Not a big deal to me, everything still works. A large bottle of water is provided in the room each day for brushing teeth and drinking. All the ice is made with safe water and when you ask for water to drink it is always in a bottle. Even the locals use bottled water as the pipes in the city are so bad that the water from the facet will make you sick unless it has a special filtration system. It is not the fancy but it is one of my favorite places on earth to stay.

This was our families 6th year visiting Playa Azul and it is truly is like coming home. The hotel property is beautiful and nice to see new upgrades or changes to maintain the property so well. Without a doubt the biggest differentiator at Playa Azul is the staff and return guests who we see after year and have become friends/family. Francisco as the new manager is another bonus- such warmth, attention to detail and really caring about the guests and staff. We have already booked our return visit for February 2019 and counting down the days to return home to Playa Azul. Thanks for another memorable family vacation!
