Park Royal Ixtapa - Decent hotel
KEITH W.
Mar 06 2018
Just got back from Park Royal hotel in Ixtapa. The hotel is old but kept up very well. Food is ok but very limited. Either make reservation for a long sit down four course meal or eat at buffet which was not the greatest. It was ok most of the nights. Reallly could use some more variety and hot food. The rooms are ok. A little outdated but clean. Mattresses are hard as rocks. My air conditioning did not work upon arrival but they fixed it and it ran wide open the whole 7 days. It keep the room comfortable. Location of hotel is good both on the beach and close proximity to down town. 5-10 min walk to bars and restaurants. Not too much going on in hotel later at night. They do have a "disco" which is very warm with no air moving. A couple box fans would do wonders! They do play DJ music with video. Good variety but it blasts pretty loud until 2:00 a.m. You can really hear it loud in your room so if you want to go to bed early it is very difficult. Pools and swim up bars are good but there are always some very young kids in the bar area. Wish the kids were kept from the swim up bar area. They splash water into your drinks. Chairs were good as long as you are willing to get up at 7:00 and go down to reserve one. Lunch buffet was very good, best meal of the day most of the time. Only bad thing is if you eat outside there are tons of birds that fight to get your food the min you move away from your plate. If you leave food there it may not be there when you get back. We had a good time and enjoyed our stay. Again, if you are looking for a ritzy hotel this is not it. If you are very flexible and don't need everything on a platter like some of my friends this may work. I would give the hotel a 3 star rating. Weather is the best thing!

This is our 2nd year at Park Royal and we love it. The staff is amazing, it's never too busy and we always get a chair by the pool. We will be back next year!

They ran out of beer everyday after an hour or two of service. The buffet ran out of food numerous times. The wait staff were very good but had nothing to work with. We paid for food and drink and there was none. No tequiilla no vodka no rum no whiskey and no beer one day no pop.

Overall the hotel was excellent. the only thing that was uncomfortable was the high volume music at the discotec right below our room (1621) until 2:00 AM. It was difficult to sleep. We complaint at the Front Desk and filled a written complaint. The next evening they lower the volume.

Very clean accomodations. Hard beds so we asked for a pillow top and they actually had them. Food was not the best, but ok

Just returned from staying at this resort. It is a really nice resort on a beautiful beach! The resort was "extremely clean" which was very nice. We had maid service daily and they included little "Towel characters" each day like you get on a cruise ship. The buffet for Lunch and Dinner are exceptional with fresh fish available cooked to your liking each day for lunch. Of coarse there were other foods to choose from as well. I loved that they had a variety of fresh salads, ceviche and fruits to choose from each day as well. They also have an Italian Restaurant, which you have to make reservations for. There is also a snack bar available all afternoon that grills hamburgers hotdogs and pizza so there is always food available. We were a little surprise and disappointed that they allow children to sit at the swim up bar. It was difficult to ever get a seat because they were usually occupied by minors! But you could always get a drink be it in the pool, lobby bar, beach bar or restaurant. They even wait on you if your are on the beach. The service was very nice. Our room was exceptional and had a 180 degree view up and down the entire beach. We would defiantly stay here again. Don't miss out on lunch on the beach and shopping in Zehuatanejo, the sunset Cruise on the catamaran "Picante" and beach day and snorkeling on the Island of Ixtapa (this was especially nice!).

Nice all inclusive with a friendly staff

We have stayed at Park Royal in Ixtapa three times so far. Pros: 1. The staff is friendly and helpful. 2. The food is pretty good. There is a buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast buffet is good. We generally have omelets, fruit, and french toast. 3. The bartenders and servers at the pool are always a good time! 4. The rooms are clean and the AC works well. 5. Great location - walking distance from local restaurants and bars. Mangos is a favorite place of our to go dancing and it is right across the street. 6. It has a kids pool and small water park area for children so the other pool (near the bar) is general kid-free. 7. Can exchange $100 a day (per room) at the front desk for pesos or there is an ATM in the hotel. Cons: 1. The beds are not comfortable. They are rock hard. We don't tend to spend much time in the room sleeping anyway so that is not a deal breaker for us. 2. The wifi is not consistent and there are minimal options for TV shows in English but we don't really use the wifi or the TV much when we are there. Overall it is a great hotel option for the price range.

Nice, family oriented resort

My wife and I stayed at the Park Royal Ixtapa for a week at the end of April, 2018. Let me first say that the service and cleanliness of the hotel were excellent. The calibre of the hotel is not the highest, and the hotel is obviously a bit older. Beds were on the small side, full-size at best with firm cotton mattresses built for durability rather than comfort as is typical of many resort hotels. Hotel is all-inclusive and the food and drink selection reflect what is typical of that industry; you won't find steak or shrimp on the menu and the highest quality tequila is Cuervo. The Italian restaurant is very nice and requires signing up at noon for a reservation. We did that two nights during our stay. We found ourselves leaving the hotel to eat across the street at a small restaurant which was excellent, and eating dinner down by the boat harbor as well. Nice restaurants are nearby, and in our opinion, you really need to dine

We had a great time at the Park Royal, the bartenders are awesome Sergio,Jorge kept us well hydrated on the beach .The rooms were always clean and well maintained, the no fridge and no coffee maker weren't an issue . We went across the street and bought a styrofoam cooler for a few bucks... problem solved. The food was ok we didn't go hungry. We ate at the Italian Restaurant twice which was a chance to eat a higher calibre of food ina nicer atmosphere. The wait staff are great we were a group of 11 and they always had our table waiting. Lunch and Supper. The time share people were always asking how we were doing but as soon as we said we weren't interested they backed right off. Our Bell hop David was so great he did anything for us. The beach was clean ,every morning the workers combed the beach for garbage which if we all pick up after ourselves should be nothing . The weather was fantastic, We were there 2 weeks a saw one cloud. I would go back to the resort for sure. The other reviews were complaining about children in the pool by the swim up bar , thats because the stairs are right there and thats where kids play. The pool deck is slippery yes but they are constantly mopping up the water(good job on them). When we go back we would definitely avoid Easter week it was beyond busy and crowded but we knew that going in but didn't realize just how busy it does get.

Good trip

Very family oriented place, water on beach too rough for actual swimming, that being said it was beautiful. Beds were very hard but views from room were amazing. Melvi and David were extra helpful and fun.
