Park Royal Ixtapa - Decent hotel
Mar 06 2018
Just got back from Park Royal hotel in Ixtapa. The hotel is old but kept up very well. Food is ok but very limited. Either make reservation for a long sit down four course meal or eat at buffet which was not the greatest. It was ok most of the nights. Reallly could use some more variety and hot food. The rooms are ok. A little outdated but clean. Mattresses are hard as rocks. My air conditioning did not work upon arrival but they fixed it and it ran wide open the whole 7 days. It keep the room comfortable. Location of hotel is good both on the beach and close proximity to down town. 5-10 min walk to bars and restaurants. Not too much going on in hotel later at night. They do have a "disco" which is very warm with no air moving. A couple box fans would do wonders! They do play DJ music with video. Good variety but it blasts pretty loud until 2:00 a.m. You can really hear it loud in your room so if you want to go to bed early it is very difficult. Pools and swim up bars are good but there are always some very young kids in the bar area. Wish the kids were kept from the swim up bar area. They splash water into your drinks. Chairs were good as long as you are willing to get up at 7:00 and go down to reserve one. Lunch buffet was very good, best meal of the day most of the time. Only bad thing is if you eat outside there are tons of birds that fight to get your food the min you move away from your plate. If you leave food there it may not be there when you get back. We had a good time and enjoyed our stay. Again, if you are looking for a ritzy hotel this is not it. If you are very flexible and don't need everything on a platter like some of my friends this may work. I would give the hotel a 3 star rating. Weather is the best thing!

This is our 2nd year at Park Royal and we love it. The staff is amazing, it's never too busy and we always get a chair by the pool. We will be back next year!

No. Food or alcohol at this hotel

They ran out of beer everyday after an hour or two of service. The buffet ran out of food numerous times. The wait staff were very good but had nothing to work with. We paid for food and drink and there was none. No tequiilla no vodka no rum no whiskey and no beer one day no pop.

Overall Excelent with one exception

Overall the hotel was excellent. the only thing that was uncomfortable was the high volume music at the discotec right below our room (1621) until 2:00 AM. It was difficult to sleep. We complaint at the Front Desk and filled a written complaint. The next evening they lower the volume.

Very clean accomodations

Very clean accomodations. Hard beds so we asked for a pillow top and they actually had them. Food was not the best, but ok

Just back from a week to ixtapa for the first time. The Park Royal was fantastic, it’s small so you get to know the staff and the tourists. The beach isn’t great for swimming but there are places close by for that. The food is pretty much the same as anywhere else- just have to ask for bacon in the morning. Omar and Angel at the pool bar are fantastic, took great care of us. Same as David at the front-make sure to say hello. The rooms are decent and clean. I have no complaints and will be back. Loved it all!

Clean hotel, shortage of pool and beach chairs, pleasant and fun Alberto.

We stayed at Park Royal the fourth week of March . We had looked for a hotel with attractions for young children and photos showed kids pool. Our first impression was not great- architecture, decor of the lobby is very basic, rooms are okay but bathrooms lack hand held shower head. The smell in hallways is nauseating and musky smell of our closet was unpleasant . We were thinking about contacting a travel agent and try to change for more luxurious hotel as that was a first holiday for us in several years. Then- evening live music happened ( very good musicians) and Alberto came in front of the stage, called children to participate in some games, then he danced with our little girl. The following day he recognized us , remembered our names and made us feel special. Alberto's English is excellent, he has natural gift for public relations, he is a real asset to Park Royal. But- even the best personnel could not make up for shortage of chairs in pool area and on the beach. For us the first 3 days were ok but when hotel became more crowded, it was impossible to get anything better than a spot under an umbrella to spread a towel on a sand .

Fun in the sun.

We spent a week at the Park Royal in March and had a lovely time. This was our fourth visit to Ixtapa and our third to the Park Royal. It is a very nice, clean, well maintained property with great staff , good food and perfect weather. We had a wonderful room on the 14 th floor which is actually the 3 floor. lovely view of the ocean and pool. Big room with a spacious balcony. We had a comfy king sized bed with nice linens. No fridge or coffee maker but you can get coffee early by the buffet off the lobby. Our maid did a great job in the room, it was spotless and she left towel art for us to enjoy. Everyone is so accommodating. The pool area was spotless although it would be nice to have a deeper area to swim . Bar service very good and drinks were delicious. We found the wine and beer just fine too. Buffet good , especially el pescatore by the beach. The only issue was that they have grilled to order fish but it is not advertised. Ask for onion rings too. Breakfast was tasty , freshly made omelettes ,just asks our server for bacon and toast. Watch for marauding birds. The Italian restaurant is fabulous but it is very hard to get reservations. There are fabulous restaurants across the street as well. Check them out, Banks, markets, vendors, bars and eateries all right there. We went into Zihua almost every day, the buses run right outside. Zihua is a wonderful place to explore, the waterfront is so interesting with lots of shops and bars etc. La Ropa is only a ferry ride away and has lovely swimming and snorkelling beaches. Take the bus to Playa Linda to see the crocodile sanctuary and take a ferry to Ixtapa island, also great beaches, The beaches by Park Royal are mostly red flagged but there are miles to walk and enjoy paddling in the waves. Parasailing all over the beaches and many other activities, The resort has beach volleyball, pool volleyball, dance lessons, cooking demos ,crafts, lots to do, The lobby bar band is good but very repetitive, not much entertainment except the band, They are good but it gets boring, There is a disco that no one uses but it is very loud. There are a lot of time share people in your way near the elevator but they will leave you alone after a day or so. We came with Air Canada bad the rep Luis is amazing, he is very helpful. All in all we will definitely be back. I hope they address the reservation system for the Italian restaurant and improve the entertainment, also address the noise issue from the disco, We git a very good deal so we're very happy. .

Too many “Daypassers”!

My husband and two teenagers arrived during spring break. We knew it would be busy, but did not anticipate families of 15 people coming for the day to use the resort. They “reserved” dozens of chairs with towels and didn’t pick up after themselves. Disappointed that we had to share the resort with disrespectful and rude people.

Excellent Staff
