Lacking and lazy service, but beautiful setting and large rooms

Park hyatt St Kitts felt like a family resort trying to be a “boutique resort”. If you’re a family with children, this might be your jam but I wouldn’t recommend looking for any romance here. The minute we arrive in St Kitts we were off to a bad impression. When we landed at the local airport there was literally nobody around. Even the pilot was confused. We waited outside our plane on the tarmac for 45 minutes before someone came to help us - I kept reminding myself “it’s slow here, this is island living”. There was literally an employee just sitting there staring at us, not offering any help. Once we checked in we waited another 40 minutes for our bags! Reminder - we were LITERALLY the ONLY people there. This airport sucks FYI...avoid. Anyway, Upon arriving at the Park Hyatt, the hospitality and service was very mixed and awkward. For example, our bag valet was incredible....yet our checkin receptionist was cold and impatient. After a long day of travel we were told our room wasn’t ready (it was 4pm) and to go wait by the pool. We went to wait by the pool and to grab a bite to eat. We were starving, and no food was available at any on property restaurants oddly - everything was closed and the pool food was sold out, except for 2 dishes. Our pool server was very green you could tell by his stress from having more than 3 customers and how it took 30 minutes for chips and salsa. To his defense, I don’t think he had proper hyatt training. He kept asking (i think) if we wanted our meal coursed out. Odd. ROOM: Once we finally got into our room (just past 6pm), we were impressed by the space. I will say, compared to other properties (ie four seasons on Nieves), you get a lot of bang for your buck. We had a beautiful, massive plunge pool and deck overlooking the ocean. Large bedroom, living room and bath. Two bathrooms. Was very nice. We booked a top floor suite which I’d recommend, made our stay for sure. If you have little ones you could easily fit a roll away in the living room which has doors closed off from the master. SERVICE/HOUSEKEEPING: But again, the service really took it down a notch. The housekeeping was a joke. They basically came in and made the bed - that’s it. Dirty towels left of the ground. Cleaning supplies left in our room (and our friends we were traveling with experienced the exact same issues too!), no tidying up our vanities or special touches like putting slippers by the beds. They were in and out. Our air conditioning broke on our 2nd to last night and it was never fixed even after calling it in. Our sink flooded after they “cleaned” when we got back to our room. Our pool was VERY cold, which in a hot climate I get it - but was ice cold. We hardly used it. FOOD: Service was better at the restaurants: Food at all the restaurants including room service was great. We truly loved everything we had, and the aesthetic and location was just lovely. Our best service was at both the beach & dock bars (those two bartenders were great!) and then our lovely waitress at Stone Barn. Also the woman who brought us room service was sweet and kind. Only con: They we’re constantly sold out of lobster. Every night. How do you run out of lobster?! I never got it until the final night they had a tail left. SPA: We both had incredible massages at the spa. Great masseuses, very talented, professional and friendly. The amenities are very nice, though both the sauna door and the steam room door on the womens side do not close completely, defeating the purpose. Overall, we left happy for the price we paid and would maybe consider coming back after we have kids. Also, to this properties defense, they’ve only been open a year and is by far the nicest property on the island. You can’t beat those views! I think someone from Hyatt corporate needs to come in, train and monitor for a while. Might be smart recruit outside staff from other high-performing Hyatts willing to travel and live there during high season to work. When you come to an island like this as a visitor you want to feel welcomed and have fun discussions with the people working there. We didn’t get that. Its clear the lifestyle and culture on this island is relaxed, but this relaxed unfortunately just felt lazy.

What a disappointment

My family just returned from the Park Hyatt St Kitts and they said scale of 1-10 it was a 6. The main reason was the service was lousy. Also they were blown away on how much everything cost at the resort. I’m a Globalist with Hyatt which means I spend a lot of time at there hotel and I was so disappointed on how they treated my family. I wouldn’t recommend staying at this property.

Excellent experience. Highly recommend. We spent New Year’s Eve with 13 people and the hotel did an excellent job at accommodating all of us. Would highly recommend and plan to return in the future. Thank you for your beautiful hotel and country.

My family expected more from Park Hyatt. Decent property, with average food and service. The spa and workout facility were nice. Hotel misses the sunset due to being blocked from hill elevation. This was definitely a downer. Small beach.

Property is very new and as such is modern and well maintained. Standard room is very spacious and has a multitude of outlets (US style) and USB ports to charge all your devices. Service from the staff is outstanding throughout the resort. Even at capacity the resort did not feel crowded and there was never any challenge in finding chairs at the pool or beach. Food at restaurants is very high quality but a bit pricey. Breakfast buffet will run you $42.70 after adding 12% VAT and 10% gratuity. As noted in other reviews the bed mattress is overly firm. Only wish they had a hot tub at the pool. They are only in the Spa (indoor/outdoor) and separated into male and female sections so you can't share the experience with family members of the opposite sex.
