Great experience

Best experience! The staff was so friendly and really went above and beyond. The royal service was fabulous! Would definitely come back. We really enjoyed our butler Armando. Bernalito was also awesome! Hotel had modern decor and had different restaurant options..we ate so much! The rooms were also beautiful and we hardly left the resort as there was no need too!

La Perla is a gem!

Loved La Perla, BUT we didn't love the overall hotel. We were mistakenly sent to the Esmerelda for the first 1 1/2 days of our trip and the room we had was very strange. It was a swim up - the maintenance of the room was awful (furniture scratched and chipped, ironing board had burn marks, pool steps were moldy, there were chips on the balcony). The bathroom in this room was VERY strange with the toilet and shower not even enclosed. We found that odd. It was a relief when we were moved to La Perla. That room was gorgeous. Also a swim up and this was much cleaner, separate toilet and shower. Staff is impeccable, but I found the concierge staff to be extremely harassing about wanting to set up a breakfast for their sales pitch, and they got sarcastic when we refused. The beach is gorgeous. The food was very limiting- you can't serve yourself any snacks, you have to sit down or order in. That's a bummer. The water in the pool was icy, but I suspect it was from 2 solid weeks of rain. Probably wouldn't go back - we were more impressed with our stays at Iberostar and Riu.

We had a very relaxing 8 night stay over the New Years holiday. Angel, our butler, was super professional and was available to help us with anything we needed. He set up baths in both of our indoor and outdoor tubs that was such a lovely way to relax. It was our birthdays and we were treated with champagne and strawberries. He helped us navigate our reservations and checked in with us periodically to see if we needed anything. He was great! The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. We enjoyed lounging in there but spent most of our time at the Royal Services pool. This private pool is heated and more quiet than the main pool. There was usually mellow afternoon live music. At the main pool they often had a dj, performers, dancing, and other games/activities. We were happy to chill, read, nap, and drink champagne over at our pool. We also enjoyed swimming in the ocean. Just walk a little to the north and it's great! I visited the spa twice. Once for a solo "Embellish Your Body" treatment and again for a "Red Passion" couples treatment. Loved both! My masseuse, Monica, was amazing! The treatment rooms were spacious with outdoor showers. There are also steam and dry saunas as well as hot and cold outdoor pools, which we enjoyed. I would absolutely recommend the spa. Dining was overall great. We actually really liked the buffet for lunch. Lots of veggie and healthy options a well as many treats and indulgences. Our favorite dinner restaurants were La Palapa (also awesome breakfast, love the green juice!), Vento, and Mole. The service was always excellent. We hung out in the main open air bar a few nights and I enjoyed smoking a watermelon hooka and drinking champagne. The guys working there are on top of it! I worked out in the small gym in the Royal Services side twice. It has some dumbbells, 2 treadmills, a bike, and cable machine. My husband walked over to the main gym and worked out a few times. It seems like it gets pretty busy by 8am. We used Kay Tours to do a private, customized excursion. I highly recommend them. We went to Tulum, Akumel, Tankah, and another Cenote. Was worth the cost we thought to have a private guide, (thank you Karen!). We were exhausted and happy. I'll do a more detailed review on their page. Things to consider: There are bugs that bite here. My husband got bit pretty bad and we think it could be sand fleas, ants, and/or mosquitos. I had a few bites but they just like him more. Bring a light sweater for indoor dining. 5th Avenue is a long walk but we did it in about 30 minutes along the beach. You will get wet! 5th Ave is always packed. We didn't get bothered much as all. Just be smart and haggle for prices. There is a lot of cool stuff to shop for and so many restaurants/bars. There were some drunk American's around the resort that were pretty loud and not self aware. I imagine this happens a lot of places. There is a time and place for everything but the quiet, royal services pool probably isn't it. All in all, we loved out trip and would absolutely return.

The second time at Paradisus La Perla – we loved it even more!!

We came back to Paradisus La Perla for two weeks in December after a few years since our first visit. We travelled to Punta Cana, Puerto Vallarta and other places in Cancun area and can compare Paradisus to several other hotels and resorts. As soon as we arrived at La Perla we realized that we should have done it much sooner. It’s truly a Paradise! The hotel itself, personnel, food and service are simply outstanding. The property now has much grown, lavish vegetation but it retains it’s clean and very modern look. I wouldn’t exaggerate if I say that La Perla is the best hotel we stayed in. Everyone has different criteria for excellence and here what I believe makes it the best for us: 1) The property – the entire resort is nice, modern and very clean. It’s literally spotless! Kudos to the hotel management and personnel for keeping it pristine! 2) Food – there are 16 restaurants and bars on the property and each offers a unique variety of choices. Fuego, Mole, Vento and La Palapa were our favorite for dinner. The Grill was the best for lunch. Food was simply delicious and presentation was very impressive 3) The pool(s) – all 3 are exceptionally clean and offer several 50+ meters straight swimming areas. Lap swimming is totally within the reach especially before the lunch hours. 4) The beach – the swimming area is huge, it’s about 350m long and offers exceptional open water swimming experience. It’s well protected from the wind and waves are manageable except for really stormy weather. The best part of it is an incredible view of the turquoise sea! 5) The last but not the least is the service – it’s simply exceptional. I could praise many people working at La Perla for making our vacation a dream but I’ll mention only several who made us feel very special. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and special thanks to Zahiye Dagda, Karla Villanueva, Cesar Kumul and Onorato at the Grill, Carlos Valencia at the beach bar, Perla and Jesus at Fuego, Karina at the concierge service. Thank you all for treating us like VIPs! Finally, I’d like to mention that bargain hunters might find better vacation deals everywhere else but from the value standpoint nothing can beat Paradisus. We’re planning to come back to La Perla in 2017 and looking forward to another exceptional vacation!!

Second Time as Good as the First

We recently visited La Perla for the second time and it was as good if not better than the first. The first time we had to stay in the Esmeralda side, however, this time we stayed on the La Perla side and it was definitely better than we thought. The amenities were great once again. We had a soaking tub in the room and a whirlpool on the balcony. The room was big and comfortable and our maid Yuri kept it clean and well-stocked. We requested rum and our fridge was constantly stocked. The star was our butler Napoleon Rameriz. He made sure we were well taken care of, had reservations for dinner, checked with us a few times a day to make sure we had everything and had all sorts of special surprises and treats for us. As in our first visit the restaurants were excellent. Our favorite was Fuego, then Olio, Bana, LaPalapa, the Grill. Our only mishap in food was the Mexican restaurant. Maybe we hit it on a bad night, but it was not especially good (food or service.) We enjoyed breakfast every morning at LaPalapa I believe our waiter's name was Ramone and Fernando took excellent care of us. The staff at the gym were great and it is wel stocked and had some good classes. The shows are a bit funky, but fun. It would be nice if the parents would keep a check on their children (everyone does not think your child is that adorable.) For the most part you can stay away from the kiddie part of the resort. The beach has had a complete overhaul. The first time we were there you could not even use it because of the seaweed problem. This visit it was completely cleaned up and if we walked just a little bit up the beach the water was calm and clear for the most part. Lewis and Daniel at the beach also made sure we were well taken care of. All of our drinks were well made and when I specified what liquor I wanted we got that and if you want a stronger drink just ask for a shot on the side and add it. Everyone was gracious and always had a smile. We were never bothered with any solicitations about time shares or programs. In my first review I wrote about the brands and amenities at the hotel. All in all I would recommend this resort. But don't expect lots of night life. It is fairly quiet and not a big singles resort. If your looking for lots of night life it might not be for you.
