Very nice resort

Room was spacious even though not very big. Cleanliness could be better. Extremely noisy if staying close to the elevator and they refused to move us. We were not able to get even one full night worth of sleep. Service is excellent. Selection of food at the buffet was good, even though the Moroccan night was below our expectations. Entertainment is geared towards families so for the adults only part, not much to do at night. Pool party for the adults is great.

This was our fourth visit to Mexico but the first on the Yucatan Peninsula. We were totally bowled over by the building, grounds, amenities and staff at this resort hotel. Small it is not, but it is designed to cope with a wide variety of guests wants / needs. Resort hotels in this area, Playa del Carmen, appear to have one thing in common; they are big. We stayed int the Royal Service Perla part of the hotel which caters for adult only guests. The grounds are large, but easily navigated with good signage and there are plenty of green areas to compensate / hide the accommodation blocks. The layout of the hotel is one large central block which houses the majority of the MANY restaurants, bar areas, lounges, entertainment area & night club. Attached to the right of the main block is the family accommodation (Esmerelda) and the many family swimming pools, with daily activities in the largest. Attached to the left side of the main block are the two adult area (Paradisus La Perla). One of the adult areas has both the accommodation blocks and an adult pool, also with daily activities. There is also the Royal Service accommodation block and the adult pool, which is a little quieter than the other adult pool. Of course the Royal service area also has it's own restaurant and offers butler service. We stayed in the Royal Service part of the hotel and had our own butler. There is a clear "border" between the family and adult parts of the hotel but there is some crossover where families are able to eat in the restaurants in the adult area of the main block and where adults only guests can eat in the restaurants in the family area. The whole hotel is very customer focussed and the staff are efficient and very friendly. It is difficult to mention all of the staff who were so helpful but they do include Alan Valla (our butler), Angelica at the LaPalapa restaurant who welcomed us every day with a huge smile, Reinau (Waiter at the LaPalapa) and Alfredo at the Royal Service adult pool who ensured we did not suffer from dehydration. We also appreciated the friends (staff) and their Captain at the Southern Bar who served us during our holiday and educated us on the various branded alcoholic beverage!!! Our only disappointment was the amount of seaweed on the beach, but we understand that this is a seasonal issue at the time of year we visited.

AMAZING!!!

WOW WOW WOW! This hotel is beyond amazing! We stood at Royal Service from Aug 10 -14. From the moment we got there until the moment we left, everything was great. The cleanliness of the hotel amazed me and those beds were beyond comfortable. The food was amazing and every single staff member we interacted with was super friendly. Although everyone at the hotel was great, I feel that the below individuals stood out. Hector, our butler, truly went above and beyond. He arranged our dinner reservations, made changes when we missed our dinner, took care of our shuttle and checked up on us regularly to make sure everything was going okay. One day we decided to go into town for some shopping and he gave me a call after about half an hour to make sure we had arrived safely and to remind me of some safety tips. THANK YOU, HECTOR, for everything, I don't think our trip would've been as great as it was if it wasn't for your assistance. Israel, bartender at Royal Service Pool, was constantly checking up on us to make sure we didn't go thirsty. I didn't even have to ask for a drink, the moment he saw our cups we're going empty, we had a refill waiting for us and of course a bottle of water. I was very disappointed when Israel was moved to another location on our last day, boo! Inocencio, a server at Royal Service Pool. Another individual who was constantly making sure we were ok and kept having our drinks refilled, thank you! Israel, a bartender at Red Lounge Bar. Very friendly and made us feel welcomed by engaging us in conversation right away. Rafael, Carolina and Juan, from reception at Royal Service. All three of them assisted with either check-in, check-out or just general questions we had throughout the stay. All of them had smiles on their face the whole time and we're very helpful. RĂ©nau, a waiter at La Palapa. Super friendly every single morning. As a Melia Socia, I can't express enough how wonderful this hotel is. I have to say it is my favorite from all the Melia/Paradisus I've stayed at so far. Keep up the great work!

We decided to venture out to Mexico, something different than the usual. With all the scare with alcohol poisoning and being robbed and all that craziness in Cancun, we were a little hesitant. By the time we took off & landed, We were very pleased with the airline, the transportation and of course the arrival of a gorgeous beautiful resort. All inclusive is always the best way to go. We were well taken care of, no one got sick had a wonderful time enjoyed our stay. I would highly recommend venturing out to this resort if you ever get a chance to. There's plenty of things to do offsite and excursions but we chose to stay on property and relaxed. only had one day of tropical storm Franklin which is just basically meant for us to stay in and relax but it was just basically normal rain. The beach is small and would've been nice if it was little bet more taken care of however the pool is the place to be. Loved it!

Overall Nice Resort, But Horrible Beach

This was my first visit to this resort, but I've been to others in the area. Upon arrival I was a bit nervous because you can see the town and housing right over the wall of the resort which isn't very high. It seemed like it could be easily accessed by someone climbing over the wall. We arrived to the resort at 9am and were told there was a room we could use until our actual room was ready (check in isn't until 3pm). Our luggage was taken to a holding room and we were guided to a large/private restroom with a shower to change in swim stuff while we waited on our room. There are also lots of large couches throughout the lobby where several people were sleeping while they waited on their rooms. The grounds of the resort are very clean and well maintained. I did notice that every day/all day the staff would be painting walls and buffing the floors and doing other maintenance things that I felt should be taken care of while guests are sleeping. It just wasn't something I wanted to see while eating breakfast and I definitely preferred not to be smelling wet paint as I walked to the pool. Initially my husband and I booked a junior suite garden view room, but upon arrival we were greeted by Sergio C. and Monica H. at the front desk who realized we were there for my bday and he upgraded us to a master suite. The master suite was absolutely beautiful with a dining area with a large table and chairs, a large double head walk-in shower, seperate closed off area with toilet, a sink in the shower room, a double sink and large bathtub in the other bathroom area, a large balcony facing the pool area with a table/chairs, couch and a large jacuzzi. There was also an area in the suite with a couch and tv. The king bed was comfortable and there was also a tv in the bedroom. The bar is fully stocked with the usual beer, wine, chocolate milk, sprite, coke, water, etc. There was one main pool where there is a swim up bar and a grille that served things like burritos, nachos, sandwiches, fries, wings, etc. The food at the pool grille was ok, the fries were never fresh and the cheese on the nachos was usually lukewarm, the steak burrito was always good. All of the bars throughout the resort served frozen drinks and non frozen drinks. The drinks all had a very strange sugar free taste to them....I'm assuming maybe the syrups they used were sweetened with something similar to stevia, but they weren't very good. I think once people realized that no matter which mixed drink they ordered they'd all have that weird taste people just started ordering straight liquor on the rocks. Mostly all of the restaurants on the resort had pretty good food, especially the hibachi grill, the sushi place and the steakhouse. Those 3 places in particular had very very good food! The others were the usual all-inclusive food which was ok, but not amazing. The staff throughout the resort was absolutely AMAZING! They were all very hospitable and kept a smile on their faces. The entertainment on the resort was just ok. The resort was usually pretty quiet aside from the 30 minute live music on some nights, but during the day there wasn't really anything going on and other than the 30 minute live music show a couple of times throughout the week it was also quiet in the evenings. They did have a bar that had karaoke nightly, but that's about it. I did wish they did more activities throughout the day and night other than the kids shows on the La Esmerelda side. The beach was absolutely horrid...the first day we walked down to the beach we were immediately greeted by the smell of sewage or garbage. It almost smelled like a zoo with lots of animal poop. The other days I didn't smell that smell, though. There was always tons of seaweed on the shore of the beach and the beach was brown almost like a lake for the first 20 yards. There was always a machine plowing the seaweed, but it never really seemed to make a difference. If the beach is important to you then I'd say skip this resort. I normally only swim in the beach and not the pool when I'm vacationing but I just couldn't bring myself to get in that filthy water. My husband swam in it and said there was a few pieces of garbage floating around once he swam out. The beach does have different activities like jet skiing, parasailing, massages, kayaking, etc all at an additional cost. There are lots of chairs and umbrellas available, probably because most people utilize the pool instead of the gross beach. If not for the gross beach I'd definitely return to this resort, but I think next time I go to MX I will find another resort with a much better beach. I also wish the resort had actual hot tubs, they did have two that were supposed to be hot tubs but they were actually cooler than the pool. The pool temp is perfect!
