Meticulously maintained resort

Just got back from La Perla resort and it was an excellent place to stay. It was the best all inclusive resort I have been too. The grounds are pristine and relaxing. Love the music played during the day in the hallways. The staff was very accommodating and went over and above. When we checked in the room they didn't have the beds we asked for, but we were upgraded to a junior suite with swim up master at no extra fee. The room was very comfortable and housekeeping always kept our refrigerator stocked. Beds were very comfortable too. Fernando at the Sunset Grill poolside really took care of us and went over and above. At the the buffet breakfast each day we sat in Eva Ciau and Sara's section as they always took care of us. Remembered how we took our coffee each day. Loved all the food in the resort too. Some all inclusive resorts don't have really good food. The variety of food was really awesome. The resort had high end vodka and loved the M Bar in Passion. M Bar has a great menu for martini's. Valancio Corzo in guest services was great too. The only negative thing I would say about La Perla is that i didn't appreciated being hounded to see a presentation on time shares. Other than that a top notch place to stay. The entertainment at night and during the day was good too. I will definitely go back. I went in March 2017. My next trip I think will be planned mid to late April or May. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone who is looking for a relaxing time. La Perla is only for adults, but you can also visit the Esmeralda side too and have access to all of their restaurants, etc.

Great overall, but didn't like pressured approach to join Melia membership

Great overall, but didn't like pressured approach to join Melia membership program. The food seemed very fresh and not pre-made, however it was somewhat bland. Most of the desserts looked beautiful, but had little flavor. The service overall was very good and all the hotel facilities are top notch and very well maintained. The pools were lovely, but except for the ones in the Royal Service area, not heated. With such abundant Sunlight, there has to an economical way to heat all the pools. Nicely maintained and serviced rooms, but the bed was much too soft and the bedding covers are far too heavy. Is was difficult to understand why the room felt cool during the day, but hot at night despite the fact the thermostat was always set on the same temperature and the AC seemed to be working.

Pristine resort with incredible staff!!

My husband and I just returned from a week's vacation at Paradisus La Perla, and it was an outstanding experience. The resort is spotlessly clean, the rooms are large, spacious and comfortable, the food is delicious and plentiful with more options than one could imagine, and the staff are truly wonderful. You feel so well taken care of by everyone. Did I mention the food?? Wow ... so many restaurants/choices and all of them wonderful; I can't pick a favourite. We did not have a bad meal. As another reviewer has mentioned, since the two resorts do share some restaurants and entertainment, you will see children in the shared space however not in the adults only areas. But you can minimize contact as much as you want/need to; it was not a problem for us as the children were all very well behaved; I heard many parents mention the excellent activities available to keep their little ones entertained on the La Esmeralda side. The gym here is fantastic. It is well equipped with lots of cardio and weight room equipment and they also offer fitness classes - yoga, core/TRX, spinning, among some other specialty classes. They have excellent personal trainers on staff as well who will go out of their way to ensure a great experience. There is so much to rave about, but the staff deserve the biggest shout out. They work tirelessly to make your holiday meet all of your expectations. I highly recommend Paradisus La Perla.

Facilities are very nice and well maintained. Service is excellent. Hector Diaz is a great Butler and took care of all our needs. Food was also very good. Stayed 5 days and never ate at a buffet. Always sit down meals. Highly recommend the Royal Service if you are not traveling with children. Beach is also very nice but on some days seaweed is very heavy in water and shoreline. On other days it is clear and clean. Depends on the wind. Water not that great for swimming but pools are very good. I would recommend this Resort and consider it a good value.

Gorgeous Resort with Fantastic Staff

We spent 6 days/5 nights at La Perla in March 2017 and had an incredible time. The resort is pristine and meticulously maintained. It's a big place, but we appreciated the natural areas and almost never felt crowded. All of the staff are friendly, professional, and eager to assist. We had booked a swim-up junior suite, but were upgraded to a swim-up master suite upon arrival. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, and the housekeeping staff works tirelessly keeping things neat and clean. We found the food delicious - we ate breakfast at Hadar, one lunch at The Grill, another at the buffet Naos, and had dinners at Bana, Fuego, Mole, Vento, and The Market and snacks poolside at the Sunset Grill. One of us is vegetarian and had no difficulty finding a great variety of delicious food. The hostess at Fuego even brought out an expanded vegetarian menu. There are a few tips I'd share for folks considering staying at La Perla. The main pool is not heated and in March, it was very cold until it was in direct sunlight for an hour or 2. If this is an issue for you, you'll need to book Royal Service to get access to a heated pool. Also, the pool closes very early despite being lit up. We were told that since we had a swim-up room we could be in the pool area outside our room anytime, but the main pool is cleared out at 7. Again, if this is an issue for you, book a swim-up room for more access to the pool. The pool is quiet in the morning, but the beach is the quieter scene in the afternoon after lunch. As many of the reviews mention, the beach is small. This is NOT unique to La Perla - it is a major issue in all of Playa del Carmen due to overdevelopment on the shore and erosion of the beaches. The beach is still beautiful and the staff go to extremes to keep it clean, even bulldozing away any seaweed that washes up. There are some large rocks in the water. I would recommend water shoes and paying attention to the area you swim in, as the La Esmeralda/family side beach has fewer rocks than the La Perla/adult side. The two sides converge in the center, so you will see children. Again, this was not a problem for us, but if you are intent on avoiding kids you will need to book late dinners at the shared restaurants. I never saw kids in the La Perla adult-only areas and pool. Most of the entertainment and activities are on the family side, but it is not just stuff for kids. We enjoyed the entertainment, which included a circus show with acrobats and dancers, and numerous bands and musicians. The times different places are open is not intuitive. For instance, the coffee bar Illy is closed in the afternoon, when many people would like a caffeine pick-up. Similarly, the swim-up bar was always closing in the mid-afternoon, just when I was ready for a drink. Your best bet is to befriend the poolside or beachside server and order whatever you want through them. Finally, the process for making dinner reservations does need some improvement. Upon check-in we were whisked away to a concierge to make reservations for dinner. We had no idea what any of the restaurant menus were, and the concierge insisted it was impossible to get reservations before 9 or 10 pm any of the nights. The dinner menus can only be found outside each restaurant, so I recommend declining to make reservations upon check-in and go investigate the menus before deciding. We found that if we walked just across to the La Esmeralda/family side, there were guest service kiosks where we could make reservations much more easily, and we had no problems getting the times and days we requested. Evelyn at guest services, Jorge at Gabi Club, Sonia at The Grill, Fernando at the Sunset Grill and Gibran at the beach really went above and beyond to help us out. I would recommend this resort to anyone who wants a relaxing vacation in a beautiful place.
