We booked this vacation package through Sunwing and took it based on price alone. I am thankful for places like the Oceano Palace because it affords an opportunity for anyone to spend time at the beach at an affordable price. This is not a 5-star resort, so don't be disappointed that it isn't. They don't pretend to be either. It's full on the weekends with Mexican families having a blast around the pool and on the beach. It's noisy, crowded and a little messy at times. At about 3-6 pm the bands show up on the beach and start their loud, obnoxious and horrible sounds. It's the most annoying and awful sounds you can imagine. Sometimes, there's 4 or 5 going at the same time. The hotel caters to Spanish speakers and gladly accept anyone else, but do not be offended that very few staff can speak English. We only had one meal there, which wasn't great, but it's only one meal. We spent most of our time down at Pueblo Bonito. There you can sit on the beach under a palapa and the waiters will serve you all day. 2 for 1 drinks from 12-1pm and from 3-4 pm. We just paid our tab at the end of the day. There's no "happy hour" at Oceano Palace, which is unfortunate. The WIFI is not very good either, but I think they are fixing it. I really like Adrian at the front desk. He was always very helpful and we also had an excellent room attendant that went the extra mile and seem to understand the broken Spanish notes we left her. Thank you. Mazatlan is an amazing city, so hanging around a boring resort is not necessary. All you really need is a bed, a shower and a safe. Get out and enjoy the city and the restaurants. Take a bus, a taxi or a pulmonia and go downtown. There's an amazing theatre down there that is absolutely stunning. Try out the restaurants around the plaza that are excellent. Stay away from Hector's Bistro - not good. Gaia Bistrot is my favorite. Casa 46 is supposed to be really good as well. These are more expensive places. We also love Stone Island (in the south)and the Bruha beach (in the north). The lighthouse walk is also worth it, but it's a hike, so bring some water. The afternoon is best for the hike as it's cooler. Have fun.

We stayed here twice in January 2018 and in 2016,

We love t people who work here, some of our favorites were Hulio who sooked wonderful omelets, our waiter Ceasar who made sure I got really hot water for my own Yorkshire tea bags and Angelica who was at the desk and saw you to your table.Since our first visit, all pool lounges have been changed. Now also there is a Theatre in the basement with shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, one with some participation from some audience members. The rooms are clean with it seems just about every day clean bed linen and daly clean towels. Pool towels are available by the pool. The view is lovely we enjoyed watching the sea rolling in and people swimming in the pool or sea from our balcony. We sometimes ate in the dining room but there are many places to eat close are a couple. Fat Fish has fantastic ribs, the Fish Market is a nice restaurant. Buses are very cheap and what used to be called Mega (and still is on bus windows) is a supermarket that sells just about everything. We would get the bus there and a taxi back with our shopping. Once you visit Mazatlan which is very safe, you will want to go again, some people have gone for 30 years or more, we went for 3 months in December 2012 and stayed in a condo town house,

Wonderful hotel right on the ocean. Fantastic people who are willing to make your stay perfect! Don’t stay on the side facing traffic. It is very loud until 2 am from the neighbourhood bar. The ocean side is marvellous! We had a great holiday there
