Hilton Waikoloa a horrible experience

The ocean tower is a horrible place to take a family for a vacation. The pools were shut down for more that half of the vacation time (8 days). Water was shut down for a night. There were cockroaches in the room bringing big questions about the cleanliness and hygiene of the place. We wasted our time and money on a vacation. I have never expected a Hilton 4 star property to be in such dire state.

Stayed at this Hilton for 8 nights. We prefer smaller sites, but can see if you have small children with you this might be the place for you. We preferred to do activities off site, ther3fore, we only had a few meals a their restaurants. Due to the size of this place you will find yourself waiting a bit for your car to be brought up. We were in the last tower,so it would take us about 12 minutes to walk to our room. Their is also a tram system. Our room was ok, nothing special...outdated. They are planning to turn this tower into time shares. If you like BIG resorts this one is for you.

Great resort with a good amount of construction. If you stay in the Ocean Tower be prepared to walk aways to lobby or wait a while for the tram (they do have boats but they only run from 2pm until 10pm). The food at the resort is over priced and poor quality. Plus they charge a good amount for self parking $27 a day but its hard to find a good spot and far distance from the Ocean tower they also do valet for $37 day. The Lagoon was awesome with sea turtles for swim or snorkel. The pools at the Ocean tower are dated with paint chipping and water wuality cloudy but not to crowded however the pool at the Lagoon tower was awesome with water falls and a slide however the hot tubes are crowded with kids whose parents dont watch them and poop was found in one of them.... gross.

We still love this resort! Looking forward to returning.

We loved our stay. We have been to this resort two other times with our children and looked forward to going again. Yes the place is aging but so am I, they are remodeling the Ocean Tower so part of this area is closed. We had a standard King room for the two of us and we felt the room was great (yes the carpet was worn but clean). We did utilize the refrigerator but we had spent time planning our trip and planned several excursions off the property. We did find some amazing places to eat and I would recommend you look for restaurants off the resort if you are staying for an extended stay. We had three pool days and no complaints. Yes meals are somewhat pricey but if you look at menus off the resort you will find, for the most part, the costs are in line with others. We had our niece and family join us one day and our joy was watching their kids. My grand niece and I took the lei making class together and created a wonderful memory. Yes, this is a large resort. If you do not like to walk you may find you have some wait for the tram or boat. Look at your map though and if you chose to walk you will find there are all kinds of trails that take time off of you walk and oh my the wildlife you will see! We had about 15000 steps a day but at home we goal at 11000 so not much difference there, we get 20000 to 23000 (my high) in Vegas so there was no bother for us to walk. I also recommend the chapel on Sunday morning. The service is sweet and how many times do you get to worship and see the ocean and palm trees. We go each time we visit. I would recommend this resort with out hesitation. The staff is amazing, kind and pleasant.

We were excited when we finally arrived at Hilton resort on Big Island after quite long flight from San Francisco. Hawaii should be one of the highlights on our trip. Fortunately, we saw already back home that Ocean Tower in which we had reservation has been under constructions. We were offered to switch reservation for Palace tower and three breakfasts were included in the room price. First contact with the resort was a long queue at the front desk when we wanted to check-in. It seems that a big crowd of guests wanted to check-in irritated the front desk staff. When we finally get to our room it turned out that our expectations based on internet descriptions were too high. If there is a similar gap between internet presentation and the reality also in Ocean Tower we were lucky to change the reservation. Although the room was a bit obsolete and it was not as expected it had lovely balcony and nice scenery with partial ocean view and palm trees. Next morning, we found out that staff attitude would be the real issue in this resort. After waiting in line for a while we managed to get to the breakfast front desk. We tried to explain to the lady there that out three breakfasts are already paid but she would not even listen. Instead having our first breakfast we had to go to the reception. We repeated the whole story again but the lady at the reception desk did not even took a moment to check our voucher. She rudely said that there are only two breakfasts in the system and nothing could be done and we should pay 37USD for the third breakfast. We had to activate our agent in Europe to solve this problem. Two hours later we received a phone call from the reception that additional breakfast vouchers are there for us – no apology, let alone the friendly smile… Overall Hilton Waikola Village is a nice resort with beautiful pool areas and some unique things like a mono rail and water taxi. It is true that resort could need some refurbishments but the most of all they should train the staff. A lot of them does not meet the Hilton standards and are very far from Hawaiian hospitality.
