Stayed two nights in December. Location is good. A short drive to the center of town. Nice beach area. Pool is nice and clean. Pool bar staff are very friendly and work hard to keep up with demand. Food was average. We chose to eat off site for two meals. All of the staff we encountered were outstanding. Room was average.

We arrived on a Thursday which was very quite and relaxing. Then came Friday and a lot of people!! Nevertheless the restaurant was well managed - no lack of food or drinks and wait for seats was not bad. It is a bit far from the town (and shopping) but a taxi is only US$5 one way. It is right on a west facing beach and we had beautiful sunsets. Wifi is not stable - no signal at all in our rooms! The show on our first night became bingo instead. The second show was a variety game show in Spanish so we had no idea what's going on!

Room was beautiful and spotless. We had oceanview with the sound of the waves putting us to sleep at night. Bartenders were super friendly and kept us well hydrated ;). There were always plenty of chairs at the pool and beach. Lots of shade from trees but no palapas. House band was fantastic. $5 cab ride into Tamarindo which was great because the food was horrible so we had to go in to town to eat when we got tired of fruit and veggies. Fish at the beach bar was good and soup was usually delicious. We only got one seating at the a la carte because it was closed 2 nights but the night we ate there the food was great. Buffet food made Cuba look like 5* dining. Service in the buffet was terrible until they learned we are tippers (3-4 days). Lots of other places to choose from in the area. Not worth what you pay for all inclusive here. Would likely not return.

Good value for the money, especially with all inclusive. Food was average. Facilities were clean. Great beach. Internet needs improvement in rooms and away from common areas. Spa was wonderful. Staff is friendly enough.

Great location, service, and food for a fair price

Pleasantly surprised with our stay at Occidental Tamarindo. We paid for the all-inclusive which included 3 meals and snacks from the pool bar. The food was good, lots of variety and the fruit was amazing! Our room was spacious and very clean with an amazing balcony & good quality wifi. Pool, beach and entertainment at night (there was amphitheater with live dance) was a nice touch. We also rented a car, which was parked in a safe, guarded lot 24/7. The hotel is exactly 1.5km (1 mile) from the town of Tamarindo. Would 100% recommend this hotel for a couple, or family.
