That's our second time at the Occidental hotel. Staff is very pleasant, food is also great, plenty of variety for every picky eater. They also have club for kids, very friendly place. Highly recommend to everyone.

I upgraded to an ocean front room and it was not ocean front. It was pool front with a view of the ocean in the distance. With this upgrade, I was supposed to receive free wifi. It worked for 1/2 of the days I was there. The phone and TV stopped working half way through my stay as well and was not fixed. There is no beach service for drinks. you have to walk to the bar.

Room was ready until after 4PM. No handicap accessibility to specialty restaurants. Our room was cleaned every day from 3:30PM to 5:30PM. Not all towels were replaced. No hot water in our room for 2 full days. Never hot water for jacuzzi on our balcony. Not all personnel were friendly or helpful. Wake up call on last morning was 35 minutes late. Lack of information provided about resort at time of check in. We had to find things ourselves. The resort itself was the prettiest we have ever stayed while in the carribbean but service was below standard. Last day we were there I saw a live roach on the buffet food in the buffet restaurant.

I would love to speak with an Apple Rep regarding the absolute nightmare of a room we were given. I was incredibly disappointed and disgusted by our room. It was filthy with wet walls, a leaking shower ceiling and exposed wiring just to begin with.

We enjoyed the hotel very much. The pools are great and the beach is fantastic. The food is overall very good and lots of variety. Check in was slow. We had 3 people and were placed in a room with just one bed, but that was quickly resolved by the hotel staff, which was great. I would NOT recommend agreeing to meet to learn about their 'travel program' unless truly interested. Our room was simple but I liked it a lot. Grounds are very nice. We enjoyed our stay.

I've been to this resort several times. Before this latest trip, the last time was about 8 years ago. They have made great improvements to the resort. However some things have deteriorated. The food quality isn't the best. The water pressure is fair at best. But overall for an all-inclusive it's a good value for your dollar.

The check in process was slow and the staff unprepared. I question why photos copies of our passports were taken.....never had that happen before on trip to Punta Cana or Mexico. The nightly entertainment shows were all very similar. While the performers are very talented, more variety should be explored. There were rarely enough bartenders at any bars to serve all the guests, unless you were waving tip money at them. There was no apparent consistency for daily games/activities to be found. It appeared you had to hope that a staff person tracked approched you to participate. Instead, a daily time schedule of events and their location would be helpful in planning the vacationer's time. on the plus side, the food and service in the various eating venues was excellent! The grounds were spotless and well kept and security was excellent. Maid service was inconsistent from day to day, but eventually was completed.

This hotel caters mainly to Spanish speaking people. We had the worst service at this hotel that I have ever received. One night we waited 1 1/2 hours for our entrees. We finally got up and just left.

Checking in took over an hour. Was suppose to have rooms next to family and did not happen. TV didnt work took a day after talking to 7 people to get done. Hotel had very limited bartenders and always had a line of 10 deep or more. No communication as to what was going on every day. Had a fight in the room next door kept us up for hours. Would have expected at least an apology for happen.

We loved it! The resort is big, but planned very well, so everything is just few minutes away from the central stage, the buffet and the central pool. We traveled with 3 children and my in-laws, and every one was pleased. We spent most of our time at the central pool, with upbeat music and the bar. There are few remote pools where quiet music is playing. The resort was beautifully decorated, because we were there between Christmas and New Years. They have daily entertainment programs, which are a nice way to spend an evening with the family. We particularly loved the Michael Jackson Show. The children were very happy to spend time at the kids club, there is a huge ball pit, many toys, movies and play station. The team of the kid club -Genesis, Cerna and Esperanza - were just wonderful. The only thing we did not enjoy was lack of choice of vegetarian dishes, but otherwise the food was great (we mainly ate at the buffet).

Overall everything was good. There were some bad, and some good. The entertainment staff were wonderful, but it was annoying to not have an updated schedule. The activity schedule we were provided upon check-in was not what the staff followed. Make your reservations for dinner ahead of time, your first day upon arrival if you can. The Steakhouse and the Seafood Restaurants were the best. The buffet for the special Christmas and New Year's Eve dinners were pretty good. The American restaurant was awful and the Italian was not that good. Oriental was just okay, but the waiter was a little confused as he mixed our dinner up with another table. The other two things that annoyed us were the lack of wash cloths. We had to ask everyday for clean wash cloths and a few times were told they didn't have any! The water pressure was low especially in the evening while getting ready for dinner. There was also cold water a few evenings. One night we didn't have any water when my husband used the bathroom in the middle of the night. Finally, the drinks were cheap and not that good. The resort was clean, staff were nice and beach was pretty nice, except the annoying vendors trying to sell you stuff. You have to sit closer to the resort because if you sit down closer to the water, they will annoy you.

We stayed in room 25208 from 12/24 through 12/31 at the 1st club level of service. This place was very middle of the road average. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was particularly great either. Check in involved standing in line for 20 minutes while various people showed up behind the desk, then left again without helping any of the people waiting in line. The check out process was identical. Our room had a nice view of the pool, palm trees and the ocean. As we were 1st club members, we had access to a beach bar. There was however, no beach drink service. It would be very nice if there existed a bathroom fairly close to the beach. The closest we could find was about 1/4 mile away. We generally ate at the various buffets located throughout the resort. One hilarious thing that happened was when we asked for mimosas at breakfast. We did get them, but it involved the wait staff manager and 3 other personnel. We also ate at the steak place and the Mexican place. Both better than satisfactory, with good wait service. The swim up pool bar was nice, however, when I ordered two shots of tequila and a daiquiri, we found that we were served 2 shots of margarita mix and a daiquiri with no alcohol. This after I had tipped the bartender $3.00. Room cleaning/service was missed entirely for 2 days out of our 7 day stay. This was a very curious occurrence as we observed multiple service carts and supervisors with clipboards on our floor every morning. All of these all inclusive places seem to find it an insurmountable challenge to put beer in the mini fridge on a daily basis, even if notes and tips are left requesting this service. The beer did show up after a call was placed to the 1st club concierge. We were approached on several occasions by time share salespeople, who we were easily dissuaded with a polite no thank you. As 1st club level guests, we were given free Wi-Fi access, although the same code had to be reentered multiple times per day in order to maintain the service. This phenomenon seems to occur at every resort at which we have ever stayed. One thing to note is that, if you take the time to generate a mybarcelo.com membership, for free, it is our belief that you will also get free Wi-Fi access as a privilege of being a mybarcelo member. Worth trying anyway. After all is said and done, we did spend every days stretched out on beach chairs in sunny 81 deg F weather, with plenty to eat and drink, surrounded by a diverse population from around the world, and the intrinsic value of those experiences cannot be easily calculated. As seasoned travelers, we believe that these same experiences would be just as easily be found elsewhere.

We just returned from spending a week at Occidental Punta Cana and overall really enjoyed our stay. What we liked about the resort: - size and layout- could walk anywhere in 5 minutes or less - beautiful beach - large beautiful pools and lots of chairs- never an issue finding a good spot - nice newly renovated room The so-so: - The food was just ok, a good selection of buffets and a la cartes, but the food was nothing special - The shows at night are very loud and could easily be heard in our room (building #23) until 11:00pm and later. Wasn't a huge deal to us but something to be aware of when requesting what building you stay in. - Had no running water in our room multiple times and when we did have water there was very little pressure. Overall, we found it to be a standard 4 star resort and were happy with our stay.
