This was our second visit and we enjoyed it as much as the first. Excellent facilities and friendly staff.

Our only complaint would be the very poor cuisine in the seafood restaurant . The food was cold and tasteless.

Air conditioning was broken all week. They offered to change my room once at midnight. I was ready for bed not to repack and move

That's our second time at the Occidental hotel. Staff is very pleasant, food is also great, plenty of variety for every picky eater. They also have club for kids, very friendly place. Highly recommend to everyone.

I upgraded to an ocean front room and it was not ocean front. It was pool front with a view of the ocean in the distance. With this upgrade, I was supposed to receive free wifi. It worked for 1/2 of the days I was there. The phone and TV stopped working half way through my stay as well and was not fixed. There is no beach service for drinks. you have to walk to the bar.

Complaints about our stay
May 04 2017
Room was ready until after 4PM. No handicap accessibility to specialty restaurants. Our room was cleaned every day from 3:30PM to 5:30PM. Not all towels were replaced. No hot water in our room for 2 full days. Never hot water for jacuzzi on our balcony. Not all personnel were friendly or helpful. Wake up call on last morning was 35 minutes late. Lack of information provided about resort at time of check in. We had to find things ourselves. The resort itself was the prettiest we have ever stayed while in the carribbean but service was below standard. Last day we were there I saw a live roach on the buffet food in the buffet restaurant.

I would love to speak with an Apple Rep regarding the absolute nightmare of a room we were given. I was incredibly disappointed and disgusted by our room. It was filthy with wet walls, a leaking shower ceiling and exposed wiring just to begin with.

We enjoyed the hotel very much. The pools are great and the beach is fantastic. The food is overall very good and lots of variety. Check in was slow. We had 3 people and were placed in a room with just one bed, but that was quickly resolved by the hotel staff, which was great. I would NOT recommend agreeing to meet to learn about their 'travel program' unless truly interested. Our room was simple but I liked it a lot. Grounds are very nice. We enjoyed our stay.

I've been to this resort several times. Before this latest trip, the last time was about 8 years ago. They have made great improvements to the resort. However some things have deteriorated. The food quality isn't the best. The water pressure is fair at best. But overall for an all-inclusive it's a good value for your dollar.

The check in process was slow and the staff unprepared. I question why photos copies of our passports were taken.....never had that happen before on trip to Punta Cana or Mexico. The nightly entertainment shows were all very similar. While the performers are very talented, more variety should be explored. There were rarely enough bartenders at any bars to serve all the guests, unless you were waving tip money at them. There was no apparent consistency for daily games/activities to be found. It appeared you had to hope that a staff person tracked approched you to participate. Instead, a daily time schedule of events and their location would be helpful in planning the vacationer's time. on the plus side, the food and service in the various eating venues was excellent! The grounds were spotless and well kept and security was excellent. Maid service was inconsistent from day to day, but eventually was completed.

This hotel caters mainly to Spanish speaking people. We had the worst service at this hotel that I have ever received. One night we waited 1 1/2 hours for our entrees. We finally got up and just left.

Checking in took over an hour. Was suppose to have rooms next to family and did not happen. TV didnt work took a day after talking to 7 people to get done. Hotel had very limited bartenders and always had a line of 10 deep or more. No communication as to what was going on every day. Had a fight in the room next door kept us up for hours. Would have expected at least an apology for happen.

Beautiful island and lovely beach but the staff were not great. The food was only OK and the beach bar constantly ran out of limes very early on (when it was manned) and made no attempt to get more meaning we were not able to get our favourite drink. The staff didn't seem to bothered about helping. The worst part was the constant excursion sellers, gardeners trying to sell you coconuts and the ongoing hassle from Occidental Vacation club personnel. Foolishly I listened on one occassion and they will simply try to tell you anything in order to get you to part with your money. Don't waste your time listening to them. The brand has lost a lot of kudos in my book. I would not recommend and certainly would not go back.

Beautiful hotel, very bad service (and beware of Spring Breakers!)

This hotel has a huge potential to be one of the best in Bavaro, but when you look past the beautiful grounds and spacious refurbished rooms, the “soul” of the hotel is just empty. I’ve been to the DR 10 times and I have never seen such arrogant staff. I’m talking about the bartenders, that will give you angry looks and randomly decide not to serve you for 15 min if they feel like it. The customer service is deplorable, as for example the cleaning lady forgot to put towels in our room. This things happen and are of course acceptable. What is not acceptable is calling the front desk 5 times, for 2 hours, to obtain nothing. We had to go to the lobby in person, queue, and request towels so they could be delivered. Speaking of the lobby, yes, check in is painfully slow with overwhelmed staff. We did not get the upgraded room we booked, they blamed our travel agency, which told us it was actually the hotel’s mistake. We didn’t even get a “sorry” about this. Basically, if you are not in their “royal club”, you are a nobody, you deserve being treated badly, and you are invisible to bartenders. Sorry but every paying customer should be treated the same, especially considering this resort is not cheap either. Fancy a cocktail at 5pm on the beach? Nope, that will be beer only after 4! Enjoy the 500m walk to the lobby or main pool to get your drink! Finally, if you plan to visit between February and March, and wish to relax, beware! The hotel is full of drunk spring breakers that will leave their dirty plates, cups, and cigarettes inside and around the main pool, with staff looking the other way. Thankfully, we always spent our days at the smaller pool and beach which were quieter and relaxing. All in all, we were impressed by the rooms and general appearance of the hotel, but the service is just too bad to recommend this resort.

Wonderful staff, substandard food and lack of concern and accommodation for an ill guest. Would not return to this Occidental and the brand is off my list as well. It is unfortunate that our rooms were wrong when we arrived and we spent hours trying to fix it. One room had a terrible odor that they were not able to get rid of. The building we were in was leaking near the stairwell. They had buckets and towels all over to keep the water from going down the staircase but it was worrisome. Overall the weather and the staff were the greatest things about this vacation.

Very very Nice !

Stayed 9 days mid Feb 2018. No problems at all during check-in. We were in our room within 25 min of arrival. We stay in building 10 which was close to the lobby, main buffet and theater. It was a 10 min walk from our room to the beach. The grounds are very nicely kept. The two pools in the center of the property had lots of activity during the day and were beautifully lit at night. There is a large third pool towards the south side of the resort that was very peaceful for those who enjoyed quiet. The Bravaro beach is one of the best in the world ! Soft sand for miles. Never saw a rock or shell. You need to know the this beach/resort is on the Atlantic side of DR-it's usually quite windy. Very limited ability to use water toys due to the wind/waves. No known areas for snorkeling off the beach. To scuba dive they transport by van about 1 hr away to the Carribean side of the island. The food at the main buffet and beach area buffet was fairly good. We enjoyed omelettes every morning ! Make sure you make reservations for the steakhouse. Had the best steaks ! This is a very nice resort. Price bring $ to tip the hard working bartenders, servers and maids ! Special thanks to Edwin and Emma at the beach/pool area bar. Rubin for his great omelettes, Franklin at the snack bar pool restaurant and Martin at Pro Dive. Hint: Building 10 is right across from the theater-pretty loud from 830 to 1100.

We went to the Occidental Caribe Feb. 23-March 5th. The resort was great! Very clean and a great variety of food. The staff all over the resort were very friendly. Special shout out to Clarissa at the Mexican Restaurant, Ruth Mejia and Ruth Silvestie at the Marien Bar. Also to the wonderful bartenders..Victor and the rest at the Marien Bar. Martina Mota at the Alombra Bar. Mr. Del la Cruz at the Beach Bar. Also, special thanks to Adarleny Costillo. The housekeeping staff for always keeping our rooms clean and the refrigerator stocked. To the ladies who keep the restrooms clean..great job! I was very impressed with everthing and everyone at your resort. There were 16 of us and everyone in our party loved your resort and would definately come back!
