Had a all night flight. Arrived at hotel early morning. Did not get room till 4 in afternoon. Check out is at noon. We thought they could of cleaned a room sooner πŸ‘Ž Started to get very frustrated at 3 o'clock when others were arriving and getting their rooms immediately and we were still waiting. Talked to management and they said this was common πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Ž Rooms were clean πŸ‘ Although they did not always refill coffee, towels etc. Limited amount of drinks in fridge. A la cartes were never full but they were turning people away saying they were full. Booking them not convenient. πŸ‘Ž Pool side bathroom. Didn't flush properly so often plugged πŸ‘Ž No washroom near beach. No drink service at beach πŸ‘Ž There was a bar part way up to pool area from beach. Closed at 3 in afternoon. Waitress at pool during day πŸ‘Ž Could not get bottled water at bars πŸ‘Ž Waitress in lobby area in evening πŸ‘ŽThey would take our empty glasses but not ask if we want another. Or when order another one it wouldn't come πŸ‘Ž Buffet food was good πŸ‘ A la carte food was great πŸ‘ Service was disappointing πŸ‘Žbut some staff was fantastic πŸ‘ Especially in the grill 20% of staff were happy and eager to please Marisol always had a happy attitude. Manuel was often great. There were a few others but I am not great with names. Grounds were well kept Pool area small not a lot of shade. Was windy when we were there umbrellas were closed or they would blow over. πŸ‘πŸ‘. But we still had a great time. It all depends on what you expect / need / want. Compared to other resorts we stayed at this one is on the bottom for service. But we met a lot of fantastic travelers and had a lot of laughs so our vacation was a possitiveπŸ‘ The tours we booked blue river and river boat were very good. πŸ‘ We also booked diving with BA divers through resort. They picked us up from beach and dropped us off at beach. - fantastic πŸ‘ (The hotel has no place to store your equipment in between dives, so you need to take it back to room)

* Will represent negative comment. We were there from Jan 28-Feb 4. Rented a car for the 8 days we didn't need a shuttle service. Resort is less than 30 min from the Liberia International Airport. The adults only resort has 24 hr. security. It's also fenced with razor wire around the top. We felt completely safe our entire visit. * I was told I could not park my car in front while checking in so we parked in the parking lot which requires a walk back to the main desk. Fabio checked us in and was very professional. The shuttle service took us to the car for luggage and to our room in building 20. Shuttle service was provide to anywhere on the grounds with a simple call to the front desk. For the most part the drivers were quick and always friendly. One driver loved my Guns and Roses t-shirt. *We got tired of waiting and walked one evening to dinner. * Our room was hot when we entered and I ask about the air conditioner. Nether the lights or air will work without a room key placed in the card reader just inside the door. We were given 2 keys at check in so we always left a card in place so the air never went off when we left the room. * We did return to find it on the floor once. The room cooled quickly. Typical room. Nothing special. A bottle of wine on the table and a small fridge with 2 beers, 2 waters 1 coke, 1 Fresca. Has a room safe. I did forget my wallet on the table while the room was being cleaned one time. Was no problem. * We had reserved a room with a king bed but we got two standard beds. We didn't ask to move but I feel they would have; had we of ask. Room had complementary shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, toothbrush (no toothpaste) etc. *Room issues were minor but the shower head was on a slide rod. It would not stay up so a hair band from my wife fixed that. The towel rack in the shower fell off the wall twice. Now you talk about a loud noise when it hit that tile floor. I put it back together both times. The shower floor was very slick. We placed a towel on the floor to stand on while showing. The glass wall allowed water to run out onto the floor around the toilet. A towel across the floor took care of that. A knob came off the dresser. I fixed that. There were about 100 cable TV channels with English spoken on 5 of them but we weren't there to watch tv. * Housekeeping was speratic. We would get no hand towels or no bath towels and 1 wash cloth. A call to the front desk always got us what we needed but this should not have been necessary. THE WORST came after my wife had walked around the room in her sock feet. Her sock bottoms were black. I know a floor gets used but it was ovious this floor had not been moped in a while. After I showed, I scooted across the room with a towel under my feet. I was shocked to see how black the towel had become. We kept our shoes on after that and no we didn't complain. You shouldn't have to on something this simple. I thought we had lost our room key so our neighbor called the front desk for us. They sent a new key card right away but I was already in the room. I took a credit card and open the door with it. I was shocked as to how easy this was. The key they brought didn't work anyhow. The room had a beautiful view of the of the ocean inlet. Balcony with chairs was nice. The grounds are beautiful. Very well maintained with several groundskeeper's out ever day. Beautiful pool, lots of chairs and activities at the pool throughout the day. Beach area was OK. Not stunning but still with sun or shade with lots of lawn chairs. All CR beaches are public so locals were there. They offered jet ski's for rent but I never saw them hassling anyone. Hotel provided securty so I guess that's why. I don't consider it a plus or negative that you have walkways or steps to go up and down. Lots of both. They had somone walk the grounds at night with a mosquito fogger. There are 4 areas to eat. Main dinning for buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is the pool area lunch buffet and a Japanese and Italian restaurant requiring reservations. We went to both and called for reservations that afternoon. All the buffets were a little different each day but your virarity is limited. Fresh fruit is a plus but overall it was a typical buffet line with the food being about average. The Japanese restaurant was excellent. * The Italian restaurant took quite sometime to get our food. My lasagna was cold. I told the waiter it was cold and he smiled and shook his head yes. It was ovious he did not speek English. So I said "freddo" (cold in Italian) and I was ignored. My wife wanted me to send it back but I didn't want to spend more time waiting on another dish. We booked an excursion to Granada, Nicaragua. It was wonderful. Crossing the boarder took some time and line standing but it was worth it. It made for a14 hour day but we new that when we booked. I left an old cell phone (Took it for extra camera space) on the bus. They got it back for me the next day. We're glad we rented a car. It allowed us to drive when and where we wanted. Yes the roads are bad but you get use to watching for the pot holes. We went to Playas del Coco Beach a couple times. Drove to La Fatuna to see Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano. Lots of birds, monkeys, iguanas, racoon and Coita's. All and all it was a great trip. We enjoyed our stay and thought it was a good value for the price.

My husband and I visited from January 28, 2017 - February 4, 2017. To say we had a fabulous stay is an understatement. We used our RCI membership to book the trip and had the BEST time because of the wonderful service of the staff, along with the comfortable accommodations and facilities that made for an unbelievably relaxing, enjoyable, and adventure-filler week. From the moment we checked-in with Alonso, located at the premium level we quickly realized an expert was by our side to make our experience the best. He epitomizes customer service and knows how to create a GREAT experience, whether it was enjoying complimentary champagne and appetizers at 5:30 each night in the exclusive upper level or scheduling activities for us he knows how to create a great experience. Alonso took time to get to know us and understand what we wanted for the week which was a mix of adventure through eco-tourism, and exposure to local culture while also making time to enjoy the resort. He recommended private tours based on our interests which exceeded our expectations for FUN and UNIQUE Days; he made reservations for us and made sure to accommodate some special dietary restrictions as well, which brings me to the hosts of some of the onsite dining experiences: Charles at the Grill Location, Patrice at the main buffet, and Brian at the Oriental each give 300% to help us enjoy our dining experiences. Thank you all for one of the best weeks we've ever had -- anywhere. Also, i would be remiss without mentioning Charlotte at MTM who arranged our private transportation to and from the airport, and the wonderful tour guides from Guanacaste Travel Tours: Marco the guide, along with John our driver; and Santos!! Thank you all!! Pura Vida!!!

Really a 4 1/2 but still great!

My husband and I stayed from Jan 25 to Feb 1, 2017 and had a wonderful time!!! I had read many, many reviews before leaving on this trip and have to admit, I wasn't sure what to expect. There were many positive reviews, but also many negative. It turns out the positive reviews were the most accurate, in my opinion. The resort is only a 15-20 minute ride from the airport which is great when you're eager to start your vacation! We arrived around 4:00 pm and were able to check in and get to our rooms immediately. While checking in, we were served our first drink of the week - a nice touch! The resort is small, only 163 rooms, but we enjoyed that aspect. We weren't looking for tons of activities and a big night life. We went to relax and enjoy some warm weather and sunshine - of which there was plenty! Then a shuttle took us to our room, which we were thankful for. We were at one of the furthest buildings from reception (at our request) with a great view of Snake Bay, but at the top of quite the hill. The resort is built on hills and is absolutely picturesque! The hills could be quite tiring but we were happy for the exercise. Besides, you were able to call for or catch a shuttle at any time if needed. The shuttle even came for us at 4:55 am when we had to leave "way to early" for a tour. We found the shuttle service was excellent! Our room was nice with a balcony where we sat every afternoon enjoying the view. The bed was very comfortable. We had some issues with the shower head staying in place but finally managed to make it work. Housekeeping could have been better. We were left with no towels after the first visit, but a phone call resolved that quickly. Then we had a couple of days where they did not show up until after 4:00 pm! The food: the buffet was open for all three meals, and had a different theme for supper each night. We didn't really notice a huge difference between the theme foods, but there was enough variety to keep us happy, and it tasted good. There are 3 Γ  la carte restaurants - the Grill - which is the Pool restaurant converted to a dinner restaurant. We both enjoyed our meals here. The Italian restaurant was small, but cozy. We were able to book this for supper on my husband's birthday and the waiters brought him a piece of birthday cake with a candle and sang Happy Birthday to him. I had requested something for his birthday, so it was great to see this happen. The food was good, although my husband's lasagne was not totally heated through. We're not typically ones to complain, but I'm sure they would have taken care of this immediately had he said anything. We did not book the Oriental restaurant as hubby is not a fan of that cuisine. Kudos and a big thank you to Carlos and Marlon in the Pool/Snack restaurant! We were there for lunch every day and for a couple of breakfasts and they both went out of their way to ensure we were taken care of. And always with a big smile on their face! Bar service at the pool was great and I'm afraid I did not catch the name of the lady who served us there, but she did a great job as well! As a matter of fact, all the staff were wonderful! Always attentive and always a smile, which can't always be easy when serving vacationers! The beach... it was small but we loved it! All beaches in Costa Rica are public, so there were locals there as well, but that really wasn't a problem. We rather enjoyed seeing and chatting with some of the locals to get more of a true Costa Rican experience. We loved hearing the waves lap, or sometimes, thunder up on shore. It was interesting watching the tide come in every afternoon. It was also interesting to see how high tide was at 1:50 pm the first day we were there and moved to 5:00 pm the last day. We loved swimming in Snake Bay but would recommend wearing sandals or water shoes as there are rocks and coral, oh and sea urchins. There is no bar on the beach, but that wasn't an issue for us. It was good to get some exercise to walk up to the beach bar for our drinks. There are a few vendors on the beach, but not really that bothersome. You can also find reps of some tour companies, but we had pre-booked tours online and once they realized that, they didn't push anymore. There was also a lady that showed up everyday to give massages. I didn't get one, but spoke to a few people who did, and they said she did a great job. The pool: not a huge pool but seemed to be large enough for the number of people there. We never had a problem finding a chair, and that was always mid-afternoon. We understand there were some activities at the pool, but most of those were in the morning when we were at the beach. There was a rambunctious game of volleyball everyday at 3:00 pm which was fun to watch. We saw many monkeys, iguanas and different birds during our visit. And even some raccoons that came to visit in the Lobby Bar a couple of evenings. It was fun watching the birds try to steal pineapple from the drinks on the beach. All in all, we had a fabulous time at a beautiful resort and would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxing vacation with great scenery and wonderful staff!
