Relaxing Oasis Close Enough to the City

I Enjoyed every minute and second of my stay in the Estelar Playa Manzanillo. I was there with my mother on our annual mom-daughter trip and we couldn't have loved the place more than we did already. Staff is kind, helpful and friendly. Hotel is very clean and food is delicious. You can walk to the beach directly from your room and differently than Hilton's Hotel, in Playa Manzanillo they make sure that nothing disappears from your sit while you are swimming. Two key features: Free Shuttles to the city (AMAZING, USEFUL, PERFECT) & Free-Wifi in the hotel (signal is not really powerful but c'mon you are in holidays just relax!) ONE BIG lowlights: Coffee PLEASE (I love Colombian Coffee, in my veins has coffee instead of blood)

Ridiculous policy....unfortunate way to ruin a good experience.

A group of 70 of us stayed at this resort during the first week of March 2018 for our wedding (not held on the resort). The grounds were well kept as well as our room (suite) and the beach. The staff was nice however not as attentive as the staff I've encountered in other all inclusive. They would occasionally offer coffee at breakfast and clear the plates but nothing beyond that. The hotel is small and is meant more for families, they definitely didn't seem ready to handle a group of 70 individuals looking to enjoy their vacation and the main bar closed at 1 and had a limited selection of alcohol. The beach bar was hardly ever open or stocked with anything and the water sports guy was rude and lazy with an attitude. My main issue with the hotel was their RIDICULOUS policy to cut off your wristband at check out and prohibit you from consuming alcoholic beverages and access to the snack bar. On our first day we arrived at the hotel at 10pm (which means we did not consume lunch or dinner at the hotel) and on our departure day transportation to the airport did not pick us up from the hotel until 5 pm. Now I am not one to write a bad review especially about something that has to do with Colombia (as that  is my background) however I was outraged! We paid for a full 7 days and I have never experienced any resort revoke the all inclusive privileges. Despite there being 70 of us and speaking to the manager of food and beverages they still declined to serve us alcohol and allow us to eat at the snack bar. I feel that they essentially ROBBED us of an entire day as we had paid for the entire day of our departure, we never received a prorated rate for the date of check out or arrival therefore we should have had access to all amenities for the entire day. I am certain that neither one of my 70 guests or myself will ever return to this hotel and I hope they review their policy and determine it is not in line with most all inclusive world wide.

On the beach and free shuttle to the Walled City

For the most part the hotel grounds are pleasant and there is a very relaxing atmosphere. It can be a little daunting for non-Spanish speakers since there aren’t many staff member who speak English and all the entertainment is in Spanish. All the staff are pleasant and try their best to take care of all guests. The free shuttle service from the hotel to the Walled City of Cartagena was very convenient. The food is generally edible and varied enough that timid eaters will be ok. The resort is family friendly so travelers who are looking for a more adults only atmosphere would probably be better skipping this place and staying in the Walled City. There is no money exchange or ATM at the resort, but once you visit the Walled City, you’ll find exchange houses/ATM everywhere. The highlight of our trip was the size of the room. Although the bed may not be to the liking of some because it’s more of a mattress on top of a concrete slap and less of a bed, the room was extremely spacious.

Enjoyed a one week stay at this resort. The Resort: The food is fine at both the buffet and the A La Cartes. The Italian was our favorite. The drink glasses are a decent size, you can leave your bubbas at home. We prefer hard beds so we were fine, but if you like soft, it could be an issue. There is NO store on site, so make sure to bring any meds, toiletries, etc. with you. Excellent pleasant service was provided everywhere. They're nicely split two pools into one quiet pool (which is very quiet), and one activity based pool. Pools are in excellent condition. The beach was just OK. There were lots of shelters but they don't provide full shade. The resort is geared for kids ten years and younger. Not a lot for young teens to do. All in all we enjoyed the resort and its' service. Cartagena: We went into Cartagena four times and never once felt unsafe. Try and experience the walled city both in the daytime and the nighttime. It's a real treat. We walked from the walled city into getsameni, a neighbouring community. Truly authentic neighbourhood with friendly warm locals. We hiring a private driver and english speaking guide through the resort to take us to the sights. Well worth it!! Do not miss the fort or La Popa. Very historic and interesting. Other items of interest: Be aware that you will pay about $80.00 US per person at entry when you arrive. We were not aware of this. The customs process entering Cartagena was slow and painful. The exit was quick and easy. We booked through Air Canada Vacations. We saw our rep ONCE, on the bus to the hotel. There was no orientation, no information about excursions, and no contact. We even tried to email the rep with a question and never received a response. In summary, we really enjoyed Cartagena. The city is beautiful, historic, and inviting. Do not listen to the naysayers talking about safety issues. We felt as safe here as just about anywhere else we have travelled.

Beautiful premises poorly managed

Well designed hotel with nice rooms, beautiful gardens, well maintained premises with a friendly staff, an attractive beach but a hotel managed, first of all, with a greediness attitude, reflected in poor ingredients used in food provided, policy of providing just one towel per person in a beach resort and entertainment entrusted to untrained persons with the Primitive idea that customers would be happy with loud music through powerful amplifiers and loudspeakers in most areas of the hotel and low quality videos with unpleasant discordance of sound (cacophonic) that didn't allow to listen to the pleasant rumors of the waves in the beach. The food provided is mediocre not just because of poor ingredients but of bad recipes and low level of culinary expertise. The chaise longs used in the beach are of extremely hard plastic with no cushioning, which doesn't help to be comfortable and more so if you are bothered by disharmonious music at high volume. The cleaning services in the rooms are provided at strange periods of time. At noon the room had not been cleaned. We requested it to do it but having returned at 3 pm nobody had gone to the room. Finally at 5 pm the room had been cleaned. We returned to the room at 7 pm and wished to have a shower but there were no towels in the bathroom. We can not recommend this hotel, notwithstanding of its beautiful location, nice premises, pleasant staff due to the service quality and the efforts made by its entertainment staff to damage your vacation with their constant high volume music. The management of this hotel show that they don't know against who they are competing in Mexico and in the Caribbean beach resorts and that they are guided more by greed than to offer a good quality service.
