The exterior and grounds of the hotel are just beautiful and breathtaking. That is the only positive I can give. The check in process took about 30 minutes and we were the 2nd family in line. When we got to our room there was blood on the walls, mold, roaches,phone did not work and water would not come out of the shower. After waiting for 2 hours for maintenance I returned to the lobby. Where I waited for another 30 minutes to speak with someone. Who then told me maintenance had been to my room but no one would answer the door. Told them that was incorrect because we had been waiting. He then responds that they also called. To which I replied that they had been noticed that the phone in the room did not work. After going back and forth for another 30 minutes they agreed to give us another room. Which was only slightly better. Please save your money and avoid at all cost.

What a disappointment.

What a disappointment! ADULTS: TAKE YOUR $$$$ elsewhere! You'll get more and better for it. I went with a group of 9, varying in age from 30's to 60's, friends and family. See separate reviews for the restaurants on Yelp--all but 3 of the ones we went to were awful. 1 of those 3 was barely average. 2 were very good but don't redeem the resort overall. Overall, for the resort itself, the phrase BROKE-DOWN PALACE comes to mind. It's leaking water all over when it rains (all 6 floors of The Pyramid). One entire wing was closed due to being uninhabitable and that wing is one of the beachfront ones that we were booked into. We were registered for VIP check in (whatever that means). It took over an hour to do. Our rooms were supposed to be blocked together--they scattered us over 3 different floors. NOT handicap accessible much of anywhere. Bathtub/shower combos were difficult to get in and out of for my 5'2" self. Bed linens were nice enough. Beds were hard and uncomfortable. Towels plentiful but rough textures. there's NO noise reduction anywhere. The Pyramid rooms' doors almost all face into the 6 story atrium and sound carries all throughout the building. Yes, it's cheap. Yes, you still get what you pay for. If you're teens-20's age, it may suit you fine. If you don't really care about food quality and don't mind poorly made drinks. "All Inclusive" is misleading. No above cheap-grade wine in included, no top shelf anything is included. The 2 top tier restaurants are only included in the most expensive packages and require reservations 1-2 days in advance. If you pay for those separately, it's $150 per couple, before any better alcohol. Spa is extra, of course. It was very nice. Adrian gave wonderful massages!

Grand Oasis was my first All Inclusive Resort. This was amazing 5 nights. Best time in my life for relaxing. Canopy beds on ocean front was a dream. Ocean front room big plus. My girl friend was Columbian, so did not have a communication problem. The restaurants were not 4 or 5 star, but you didn't go hungry. Not a big drinker, stuck to Miami Vice. All in All, I would return and I would recommend.

WRISTBANDS: Pro’s – There is still a variety of restaurants to attend with just a blue band. Cons- Given blue upon arrival, but in order to upgrade we had to pay 500 dollars per person for two weeks. Not able to watch the evening entertainment in the Havana night club unless you watch it from an extremely high up balcony with binoculars as black bands only get tables and a seat in front of the stage. Also not able to get water from any bars by the pool, only black bands can get water. WIFI: Pro’s – Great connection all round the hotel, including pool and just outside. Cons - Had to pay 40 dollars for two devices for every 5 days, we thought this would at least be included in an all inclusive hotel. POOL: Pro’s – Looks lovely, grass is kept cut and sprinklers are on every morning, lots of animals like peacocks and lizards around. Plenty of seats for everyone, you do not have to fight for a sunbed in the mornings. Cons – The pool is not cleaned!!!!! I got a VERY bad ear infection during our stay here and had to cancel our NON REFUNDABLE water excursions because of this. Lost out on 120 dollars. The pool stays open at night too so there are still people partying in it at 3am. You are swimming around in flies/ dirt/ hair all sorts. We were there for two weeks and attended the pool at all different times throughout the day/evening not once was it cleaned. There was a man one day ‘attempting’ to clean the pool with just a broom on the bottom of the surface, this is just moving the dirt around. Most pools close of an evening and have fresh chlorine? No entertainment by the pool at all what so ever, no music. There is a couple of annoying characters running about for 5 mins, jumping on the sun beds, and bothering you whilst sunbathing, they also request tips. The wet bars stink of unclean filters & mould, they don’t invest in enough time cleaning the bars. There is also only one place you can get ice cream from, but most of the time the machine is closed, and it also smells funny 5/10 of the time. There is no shade, only shade you can get it sitting under a palm tree where you would experience lots of little bits from it falling on you, also have to keep moving as the sun moves too. RESTAURANTS: Pro’s – Nice variety of restaurants, steakhouse was our favourite. Cons – THE BREAKFAST RESTAURANTS STINK of unclean mouldy filters also especially in the mornings. Drinking anything from the pump will make you extremely ill such as ‘Coke’. Do not eat the fruit also, biting into fruit which we tried over several days in case of an ‘off day’ it made us ill, and doesn’t smell fresh either, especially the orange melons. Breakfast is minimal choice, serving the exact same thing daily. Only ONE restaurant serves bacon and sausages, and has a toast machine. The rest all serve omelettes, soggy scrambled egg, and crumbled pancakes, and orange juice but with bits in. We became friends with people who had a black bands and they informed us their restaurants was a struggle to digest the food as well because of this. ENTERTAINMENT: Pro’s – N/A as there is no entertainment. Cons – There are two clubs on site, BOTH only open ONCE during a two week stay, extremely disappointing. The Havana bar we noticed once was open very late at night, but even so if you have a blue wrist band you are only allowed on the balcony. Only black bands are allowed in the below areas. The other club was DEAD with no people inside every night that we looked. There was one night it opened for karaoke but that was just Spanish, doesn’t cater for English. The circus show that is mainly advertised is NOT worth it at all, you cannot see a thing due to the plants in the main reception area hanging down which obstructs your view. Also there is no story line to it, very confusing to understand. ROOM: Pro’s – Nicely decorated with dark marble interior, plenty of wardrobe space, comes with iron and ironing board and hair dryer, towels replaced regularly. Cons – Sheets on the bed aren’t changed they just make the bed again, as I accidentally got a dirty mark on the bed on one of our first days and noticed it still there towards the end of our two week holiday. Our hotel room was crawling with ants, from the outside, there must have been a hole, but we were on the ground floor. We would have asked to have moved, but it was lovely seeing the peacocks in the morning. They only re-stock the fridge with just 6 bottles of water every two days, this is not enough considering you cannot get water at the pool bars with a blue band. They put one bottle of champagne in our fridge which was nice, but we asked for that to be taken back in exchange for more water, they took the champagne but no extra water was given. NEAR BY AREAS: Pro’s – Local to most nightlife, its only a bus ride away and its only 1 dollar per person. Two small shops either side of the hotel which you can walk to. Cons – You cannot walk to any restaurants, you must get a bus/taxi. Buses operate very differently compared to the UK I get the impression they rent the bus and whatever money they get they keep. As they speed and slam on their breaks, cut each other up, and when they bus is pulled over sometimes they shout at you to come on their bus rather than the one behind. One bus driver rigged up speakers tied them around the rear view mirror and they was dangling, he was also texting the entire time. The transfers at the airport when we arrived actually warn you to keep your bus receipts in case anything happens that’s your insurance, it is clear to us now why they explained this to us at the start of our holiday. EXCURSIONS: Pro’s – Easy to book through staff, transport included, deals offered. Cons – Staff told us to wait in the wrong area for the coach to pick us up, meaning we missed a day of excursions, they refused to pay for a taxi so we could still make it in time. We had to book for another day and cancel another excursion instead. Most of the time 99% of all people on the excursion coaches were Spanish only me and my partner were the only English speaking people meaning that the speakers didn’t want to come over to explain the trip to just me and my partner. We had to call them over and got a much shorter version of the Spanish people. Also staff told us that the activity at xcaret where you walk with flamingo’s was at 11am, but it was actually at 10:30 and we missed it and there was only one session that day so wasn’t an option to join a later one instead.

Do not stay at this hotel - I repeat do not stay at this hotel! I have been to Cancun 3x - the first time I stayed at Crown Paradise (very good hotel). the second time was at the sister hotel (Grand Oasis Sens) which was nice/reasonable although the lack of food/nightlife is a bit disappointing. Decided to stay at the big Grand Oasis this trip and was the worse mistake. 1. DO NOT BOOK TOURS THROUGH THIS HOTEL - especially with Lisbeth. I have booked tours previously through hotels and no problems. This hotel however (the company employed) is so bad that on tours other parties had issues. We booked 2x tours for two days through our trip when we arrived. The first tour we booked, it was a round trip to tulum, the cenote and playa del carmen. We were advised that the cenote would be the underground one and that playa del carmen did not have the seaweed issue and all was OKAY. When we did the tour, Tulum was find (boring), the cenote was an outdoor river (I have been previously to the underground which is breath-taking but when you havent been this is a disappointment) and playa del carmen was so full of seaweed we could not enjoy the beach. We were lied to and upset we did not get what we paid for. Therefore, before our next tour we decided to double check that what we paid for is what we booked as we were uneasy. Our next tour that we thought we booked involved: All day/round trip on a catamaran that included all day food/drinks/party vibes (we are young). We were to go to two different islands off isle mejures. It involved snorkeling, swimming with wild dolphins (not enclosed) and a trip to the under water museum as well as downtime in downtown Isle Mejures. This was $180USD. For $80 we could of got the catarman, one snorkeling and island time (however we upgrade for $100 USD to include the extras). We were shown pictures of the person who sold the tour on the catamaran and different pictures of the tour. The person we checked with confirmed the above. What it actually was: No catamaran - our transport was to reef park on a ferry with 300 other people. The dolphins were enclosed and not wild (short story we dos endorse this so therefore would not pay to swim with captured dolphins), the snorkelling was at man-made reef park and if we wanted to snorkel in the open it was extra $30 (on top of the 180 we already paid) and to access the vip area it was an additional $15. Also the tour company does not offer the underwater musuem and you can only book that through the locals. We were livid. We complained to the company who tried to take no responsibility but after speaking to the manager he included the snorkelling and vip for free to compensate until we get back (we could not leave as the ferry home was gone). When we got back to the hotel - Lisbeth denied responsibility and refused to refund the additional $100 she charged us for the upgrade. What happened was she offered one tour and then sold another but were not linked - we are tour guides so therefore its her responsibility to explain to the customer. We got the Grand Oasis Management involved but they too denied responsibility and said it was up to us to sort it out. Very poor as they employ this company and because of them people are being ripped off (this also happened to other parties). Better to book tours online so you know what exactly what you booked not be told what you think. 2. When you book ALL INCLUSIVE please note that you are not getting this. I looked up reviews first and found that they have a "black/pyramid" package that is only offered when you get there to get access to the "good food/beverages". The person I booked through tried to contact the hotel but no reply. I then called myself and they advised that since you stayed at the chain previously you will automatically get upgraded to the black package so need to worry. So I cancelled my other booking (at the Sens). When it came to check out we had Jesus. Long story short he advised that as my booking did not have the black package or any notes on the system he could not help me and that I would need to sort out myself. I explained to him the situation (incl I stayed previously) and that as he was checking us in it was his job to rectify. He said if we wanted to upgrade to black package it would be $200 usd each. After check in (we did not pay the extra) he asked if we ever stayed - I advised YES and he said ok I can upgrade you. I was extremely frustrated by this time and his next excuse was his english was poor. We did get upgraded for free but the whole situation could of been avoided. 3. Restaurants meals are tiny. Pretty average food TBH. I have stayed at hotel chains with worse food so overall not an issue. However, do not go to the mexican restaurant unless you want tequila. Although they are Mexican it so rubbery and bland its disgusting. Stay away. Drinks at the pool are watered down - if the bartender likes you at the nightclub your drinks will be filled with alcohol unless you like them straight its not nice. Recommend the Margaritas. 4. Rooms are awful. If you are staying with friends you can see entirely inside the bathroom so no privacy. Hotels tend to overload so no power for most of the day. Needs an upgrade terribly and very unsafe as the doors do not close properly. 5. Says free wifi - but only for two devices. So if in a party of 3 or more you will need t pay. Recommend to pay for the best option as I had no issue with wifi the entire time unless the power was out. 6. Had a 4am flight - could not check out the night before so had to get up an hour earlier as it takes this long. 7. If you have a family stay somewhere else. You can hear absolutely everything especially drunken people at 3am. No privacy or sound proof - had to sleep with headphones every night. Overall there are better hotels that are cheaper and better service. Just pick somewhere else cause they are not worth the hassle. Thankyou.
