Amazing Family Vacation
MARK M.
Apr 03 2018
We are a family of three from Ohio trying to get away from cold wet weather. We not only escaped the weather but we arrived at this amazing resort full of friendly helpful happy people. The food was very good and the amenities are great but what really sets this place apart are the amazing people that work there. It was the best vacation we have ever had as a family and we can't wait to return. The only even slightly negative thing I would say is that if you are a big beach person it may be a little disappointing. Lots of seaweed and very exposed however they work very hard to make it pleasant. Everything else was so great that we didn't even mind. We did the Preferred Club and would highly recommend it. Can't wait to return!

Overall it was a nice last minute get away. We started out the trip with no transfers service at the airport upon our arrival. We approached another Amstar associate who was picking up a different group. He made a phone call and advised the transfer was on its way. When that transferred arrived it was for a different group. That associate then made another call for a new transfer. In the end it seemed they forgot our transfer. All the Amstar associates were very polite and helpful to get a transfer as fast as possible and we honestly did not wait long for everything to get cleared up. At check in, we upgraded to the Preferred Club which we mainly used for the adult pool section and the private lounge for breakfast. The breakfast at the main buffet was too crowded and not very organized to get food. For the remainder of the trip we used the private lounge and Cibu. We enjoyed the adults pool since it was a lot warmer than the main pool. We originally booked the tropical view room and was given the option to upgrade to an ocean view upon arrival. We denied the upgrade since the main difference seemed to be the view which we would have been fine with a tropical. When we got to the room our room key didn't work as well as the television. The room description said it had a Jacuzzi which was really a bath tub and the overall room just seemed disappointing. We returned to the front desk and upgraded to an ocean view since it was getaway weekend and we wanted a little more than a bath tub. The room was more an upgrade than we thought and would have upgraded in the first place if we knew the Jacuzzi would be an actual Jacuzzi in the room as well as an upgraded bathroom with a glass stand up shower. The food was amazing and the service was nice. We really can't complain about the trip and I would recommend this resort to specific families, however this may not have been a resort for us.

Excellent service at resort but resort a bit o Excellent service at resort but room and facilities a little run down. Broken ice machine entire trip, old bath fixtures, leaky shower head, broken tile here and there, rusty shower curtain holders. Resort needs more maintenance staff and less sales people trying to sell you stuff all hours of the day.

Outstanding vacation at an excellent resort

We could not have been more pleased with the hotel. I've been to 20+ resorts in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area and the service at this hotel was above and beyond any other resort I've visited. Rooms were kept clean, the entertainment was very good, and the ocean is of course beautiful. This resort and all of the resorts in this area get a lot of seaweed that washes up each day, but they work hard to keep it clean and do an outstanding job. We'd love to go back!

I had an awesome time at Now Sapphire. The activities that were planned were very well though out for the guests in mind. I loved the bike tour and knowledge of the staff for our stay. The dance lessons and vball were also a favorite activity of mine. attending the theater events was also on our list each night. I was impressed with the food choices and service at each restaurant.

Our stay at NOW Sapphire was simply amazing. We had the best wedding & overall great experience. I would highly recommend anyone who is thinking of going there. The only thing that I would recommend would be better entertainment. I've had bad hotels with great entertainment and then this hotel had mediocre entertainment- but it's still decent.

Only one night. Would like to return!

We were unfortunately here only for one night but hope to return for more. (We stayed 2 nights at their sister hotel, Now Jade, and were offered the chance to go to Sapphire for our last night because Jade was overbooked.) We were taken by taxi from one resort to the other very efficiently and safely and offered cool towels upon arrival. The lobby area was absolutely stunning, reminiscent of Polynesia with enormous palapas, walkways over shallow water features, rock designs and fountains. Think Bali in Mexico. Truly lovely design! Our room was in building 7 which was a bit of a hike from the lobby and behind the buildings that were oceanfront. And our room was on the third floor with no elevator so maybe next time we'll say yes to having a porter bring our bags, lol! Our room was clean and while it showed a little age here and there, very agreeable. It was dark and traditional as opposed to sunny and modern at Jade but I liked both! A balcony overlooking a walkway and lush green trees, sitting area, very comfortable king bed and a serviceable bathroom. We had changeable water temperature and water pressure, more than what I would consider normal to the point of near scalding. We did not have a blow dryer or robes in our room. We had dinner on the terrace at the steakhouse/seafood grill overlooking the ocean. The food was good. A very generous portion of calamari for an appetizer that we should have shared. The portion of Mahi I had was enormous - I could barely eat half. Our table shared 2 orders of ribs and they were the best thing about dinner. Oh! The mango sorbet for dessert was excellent too! Our young waiter Jorge was wonderful - a true professional - smooth and polished even at his young age and charming and welcoming as well. My congratulations to the people to train your wait staff!!! The up sell on the wine on the table ($70) was persistent. The house Cabernet was perfectly fine. The location of this restaurant was awesome and I highly recommend it for that alone. Breakfast was very good and the service was again superlative. Excellent! Smiling, friendly and solicitous. Whoever hires, trains and manages the staff at both resorts is doing an amazing job!!! We were only there for 18 hours (5pm-8am) and didn't get to enjoy the pools but the resort layout looks beautiful and they have beach beds (reserved) and hammocks which I love! Lots of pretty low blue lighting and architecture features. It also looked like they had a wonderful kids club area with its own pool. There was a pretty beach bar with swings right on the beach but it was unfortunately closed at sunset. I was only there briefly but I got the feeling that Sapphire might be a little more low-key, reserved and elegant than Jade. If I'm correct...Fortunately I like both the party vibe of Jade and the calmness of Sapphire. And like I said, I wasn't there in the daytime so I may be wrong. I would definitely like to return here!

Overall fantastic, but buyer beware on the "extras"

My husband, daughter, and I just got back from Now Sapphire and overall, it was a wonderful trip in a fantastic resort. The rooms are great (though we didn't spend much time in ours) and the grounds were amazing. Everyone has commented on the seaweed but it didn't really bother us and the ocean was pretty clear in the mornings. I've also read some complaints regarding the wait for tables as the restaurants don't take reservations. This couldn't be further from the truth for us. Granted, we eat "early" (we were at the restaurants no later than 6:30 PM) so perhaps it was more of an issue later, but we were usually one of the few couples/families in the restaurants at that time. The food and service were absolutely amazing. We stayed in a preferred room, so we had breakfast every morning at Cibu. The options weren't as extensive as the regular buffet, but we were happy as it was quiet and our server knew our orders by our last day. Jesus, our waiter on the beach, was WONDERFUL. In fact, all the front line employees (wait staff, Explorer's Club staff, etc.) were fantastic. We will absolutely be back. That being said, I do have to point out one glaring issue we had. This was our 2nd trip to the resort (were at a wedding 5 years prior) and we came down this year to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. I had already paid for the preferred beach front room and wasn't going to do anything extra for him. However, about 2 weeks prior, I received an email from the parent company hyping the add-ons we could sign up for before we went - couples massages, romantic dinner, bottles of wine, etc. I thought it would be nice to have a bottle of wine and some treats waiting for us in the room when we checked in so I paid $85 and booked this through the website as a surprise to my family. I received the confirmation email, printed it out, and put it with all the other paperwork for the trip. When we checked in on Sunday, nothing was in the room. I was a little disappointed, but we had gotten to the hotel early so I thought they just hadn't had a chance to deliver it. By the time we went to bed, still nothing. On Monday, I went to the concierge in the front lobby to inquire about this. I was told that they had no record of the order (thankfully I had printed out that email and brought it with me) but since they had the printed confirmation, they would make sure it was brought to our room that night. Monday and Tuesday passed - still nothing. On Wednesday, I go to the preferred club concierge (thinking I'd get more assistance, being "preferred" and all) - they were busy with checkins and asked if I could come back later. I went back after dinner (by this time, I had to tell my husband what was going on) and was told that this was an issue with the corporate company's reservations department, and they were already closed for the day - and I'd have to come back tomorrow. At this point in time, I was frustrated and made it clear that I just wanted my money back and no wine or desserts. I was given a snippy attitude and told that the manager would take care of it in the morning. The next morning, I went back to the preferred club and spoke with the manager. Again, I was told that this was an issue with corporate reservations; she would send an email to reservations and see if she could track down the issue and would hopefully have an answer by the afternoon. I told the manager at that time that all I wanted was a refund, that we were leaving in 2 days, and that I did not want the wine or anything any longer. I was told that I'd have to call reservations to request a refund, which I didn't think was appropriate as this was not a mistake that I had made. I said that it should not be my responsibility to rectify a mistake made by either the hotel and/or the parent company and they should do that for me. Again, snippy attitude by the manager (and I know this sounds like hot air, but I really was not raising my voice or using vulgar language or anything that I felt should have been met with a snippy attitude - I was a customer that had proof of a purchase that was not received and was trying to get the problem resolved). I left and went back in the afternoon - same manager that had no response yet from corporate reservations. I explained again that I didn't want a bottle of wine or anything, just the reimbursement. I was told again to call the reservations number on my email. I went back to the room and tried calling reservations; when I finally got through, they told me this was an issue with the hotel and I had to deal with the hotel and transferred me to the hotel. I went back to the front lobby concierge, the preferred club manager, and was told that they would take care of everything. My husband and I went to dinner, came back to our room, and there's a bottle of wine and a fruit platter... We were able to take the wine back, unopened, in our luggage, but I think we ate maybe a couple grapes and berries because we were leaving so quickly; I really felt like that was a waste of food and I hate doing that. The good news is that we were actually reimbursed, which made me happy. While I would recommend the hotel to anyone, I would NOT recommend ever purchasing the extras until you're actually at the hotel (or not at all). Also, I would never want more than what I had paid for, but I was disappointed that at no time during this entire experience did anyone ever offer a different option for compensation. I've worked in customer service most of my life and, if I were ever presented with this situation - one in which the customer can clearly show they have purchased something they have not received - I would never make the customer chase down reimbursement, I would never give the customer something they have clearly asked to NOT receive any longer, and I would have looked into additional options to satisfy the customer. Perhaps a credit to a spa item, or an equal-value item, or just something. And, even if the customer does get upset (again, I truly believe I handled the situation well but perhaps they saw things differently) that doesn't excuse giving that customer a snippy attitude in return. I'm not one that believes the customer is ALWAYS right; in this situation, it was clear that I had a confirmation for the purchase, and that I was justified in expecting the problem resolved. Which should have been done when I raised the problem on Monday; I should not have had to continue to follow up and show the paperwork repeatedly to get the problem fixed. It was especially disappointing to have that level of customer service when the front line employees are so spectacular.

Average Resort but Great Wedding Experience

We came to attend a wedding here and I’d have to say the resort as a whole was pretty average. The wedding experience was phenomenal (locations, food, service). But outside the wedding, the food was below average I thought. They have several different options for dinner which was nice but the food was nothing special. The main buffet was decent with good options. The service was a little slow but there were a few employees that really tried their best. The pool is huge and not overtly busy. You can usually find a chair to put your things down. The beach is beautiful but this is the time of year where there is a lot of seaweed being pushed in with the tide which makes it a little unattractive but they did have workers out during the day to “try” to clean it up. Drinks were good but not much alcohol in them which may be a good thing or a bad thing. I got a Swedish massage at the spa which was my only 5 star experience but it was a little pricey. Be sure to ask about the resort credits to help pay for an amazing spa treatment! The resort is huge with a ton of rooms and different buildings. The preferred club is worth it if you want to have your mini bar restocked daily, have access to the adults only pool and preferred club only buffet. Other then that, there is no point in paying for the upgrade.

A Resort for Every Traveller

"Welcome Home" are the first words you will hear when you exit your vehicle at the NOW Sapphire. It may sound odd to hear but when you leave you will very much feel like you are leaving what has become your home. From the moment you arrive to the minute you leave you will be treated like a loving member of the family. We visited the NOW Sapphire in February of this year and would recommend it for all families as there is never a dull moment. Upon arrival we fell in love with the open air lobby and lounge with many water features and soft lighting. We were met with a cool cloth and whisked away to the Preferred Club check in. I would usually always recommend an upgrade to a Preferred or Executive level but for this property it is not really necessary or worth it. The Preferred Club lounge is located away from the Preferred rooms which makes it not as accessible like it is at the NOW Amber. We barely ever actually went into the Preferred Club due to the distance from our rooms and the price of the upgrade made it waste of money. The Preferred Club lounge has two computer centres, and large seating area for people to enjoy a light meal, snack or beverage. The entertainment team go to great lengths to ensure that all guests are happily entertained if they wish to be. From beach volleyball, daily Zumba, pool activities, kayaking, biking and many more activities you will be able to find something to keep you active if you wish.

The resort was extremely pleasant. I was greeted with champagne, in which I’ve never had that experience before. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The staff catered to my every need and want. I was overwhelmed by the entire experience. I will be there again soon
