Family Vacation

Family vacation of 9 travelled to the Now Jade beginning of March. For the most part the resort was excellent!!! Pros: Reservation request (upgrade to oceanfront) made via email prior to trip was honored, (thanks Adrian and Jonathan!) comfortable rooms, pools, beach, service, food, size of resort, cleanliness, shopping Cons: Some beach chairs uncomfortable, pillows a little flat, distance from Playa del Carmen, entertainment shows in the theatre were of undesirable themes (BMX biking? magician? ), had a tip complaint from one employee

The people make everything better! The Spa is so worth it!

I just came back from staying here with my wife who is slightly disabled. We had no intention of staying on the 'Preferred' side, since we thought the extra money could be better spent elsewhere. We changed our mind when we realized that our room (originally in building 1) would be far removed from most things and the long walks to any restaurant or the lobby would be made longer by being located here. By upgrading we were closest to all restaurants and more centrally located to everything having moved to building 5. Since walking is difficult for my wife, this made the most sense. Our upgrade package also included two spa visits. We almost let them slip away, but on our last days, we fit the massages in, and boy were we glad that we did! Karina had amazing hands and really worked out a lot of those nasty kinks. The Hydro-therapy before our massage was free with it and was a really nice way to warm up to the massage. Try it, you won’t regret it. The preferred side pool was way worth it for relaxing. You could always find a lounger or somewhere to sit and the loungers here were the most comfortable on the resort. I found the other two types that they had around the non-preferred pool had some uncomfortable spots and coarser fabric that often made people wad up their towels to make them more comfortable to lie on. We weren’t much into the fancy restaurants, because of the dress code, but if you were willing to sit outside, you could get away with Bermuda shorts and sandals at some of them. Jiame at Cin-Cin was a great waiter and the food was really tasty, it just took longer since it is a multi-course meal. The Al-a-carte’s are a little too fancy for my tastes, but still worth trying. The buffet was our main eatery, with theme nights and a decent selection, we were pretty happy there. We got to know a whole bunch of really great people like Esther, Israel, Marcos, Jose Luis, Francisco, Aaron, Martin and not to mention Magdalena, Maria, Nancy and Maritza. The gals at the Matre D greeting desk liked to challenge my Spanish, which wasn’t very good, but they enjoyed our banter and even laughed when I messed up “Asta Pronto” and called back “Asta Toronto!?” It made all of us laugh! Over all, the people do make the place. Treat them like people, talk to them, smile, ask them how they are doing and you may make a buddy or two. We made so many friends that it was hard to leave. I wish the vendors that show up every-other-day, were as friendly. They just try too hard to sell even if you just want to browse. On our arrival to Cancun, we did get trapped at the airport by a guy trying to get us into the time-share thing by posing as someone who would help us get to our hotel transport. We agreed, to be nice, but since their meeting was at 9:30, we missed it. When asked why, I told them it was too early for us and never went. It cost me 20 bucks, and a side conversation about harassment, but they eventually left me alone. The shows were okay, but I prefer the outdoor venues offered by other hotels over the Jade’s indoor theatre. Some stuff was outside, like the movies and when not raining, the fire show, but to be brought inside when it’s so nice outside is really not for me. They have a wonderful big screen, outside near the lobby bar, but it never plays any sound. Others perform in front of it, but the concerts and sports they play via satellite are always without audio. Quite a shame. I did go on a bike tour of Puerto Morelos, which was okay, but because of very little, and even conflicting information, it made it a less fun to find it was a 10 minute guided-ride and an hour of shopping/sight-seeing, un-guided. I thought the whole trip we’d be shown around, but we were left for an hour alone, with no prior knowledge and no money to spend, which left little to do. It turned out to be a bit of a waste of time and less exercise and information of the area than I expected. This brings me to the daily events themselves. Each day a sheet listing the day’s events is posted in various locations. These sheets would indicate a time and a location to meet for a bike ride, beach walk or whatever. On at least 3 occasions, I went to theses locations hoping to join others a few minutes before it started. I would wait and find nobody would show up. After 5 or 10 minutes, I gave up and left. Sometimes I wasn’t even sure I was in the right area and others I knew I was, but since nobody showed, I guessed it wasn’t going on. Why couldn’t there be a sign or something saying “Beach Walk” or whatever event and people would know to meet there? It would be a nice touch. Constant music by the pools during the day would also be a nice touch, but silence was often heard. Not sure why they don’t play something, anything to drown-out the silence. Every bar in the world does, but the pool bar, not a note! Rooms in the 5000 block are the most centralized and closest to all the restaurants and services. The rooms are only available on the 3rd and 4th floors since the restaurants and storage take up the first two. The room’s A/C fan is pretty weak, but with the drapes closed during the day, the room does stay cool enough. The placement of the towel racks in front of the sink is a bad location. Along with the poor lighting, shaving is difficult. The dual sinks have lots of room for your toiletries, which is pretty nice. The bathroom, hot tub, and shower areas have no grab rails, so are not good for those with mobility issues. Every building has at least one elevator, so getting from floor to floor is fairly easy for all! Mostly, Now Jade is a pretty good place, but if they fix a few things, they could be much better. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

Great family vacay!

We spent a week at this beautiful resort with extended family - 8 of us total, ages 11-77. There was something for every one of us to enjoy throughout the week. The food, at all 7 restaurants, was fabulous. The staff was very accommodating - front desk, entertainment crew, wait staff, and bar tenders. Miguel "The Godfather" at the Mix Bar (we called it "the hammock bar" all week) was very personable and a pleasure to be around. He made wonderful drinks for my husband and I as well as our 11 year old daughter (she loved the non-alcoholic mango daiquiri). If the opportunity arises, we would not hesitate to return to this resort.

Spring Break Trip
Midwest515, Des Moines, Iowa

Just returned from a spring break trip to Now Jade with 10 other families. Now Jade was the perfect size resort to fit our needs. The staff was top notch! I'd like to throw a few shout outs to some of the staff that went above and beyond all week. Joseph, Luigi, Adrian and David entertained us daily on the pool deck. They sought us out and kept us up to date on the activities going on. Joseph you are gifted at entertaining people! They greeted us each day with a friendly smile and encouraged our group to participate in the activities they offered. They were a blast! Excellant entertainment crew! Each morning at breakfast Edgar and Alberto saw us at the check in desk and came to us and welcomed us. We enjoyed seeing them each day and they were very attentive and brightened our day. I can definitely say that Alberto and Eduardo kept our drinks filled on the pool deck. They remembered our drink of choice and as soon as it appeared empty they were there asking if we needed anything else. So impressed with how they managed to remember each of our favorite drinks day after day. Just outstanding service! Enjoyed the BBQ at the pool. Would love to see a wood oven pizza poolside! My favorite restaurant was CinCin and I also enjoyed the Italian restaurant as well. Both served up great salmon dishes which I love. It was nice having a coffee shop onsite as well as the big screen in the main lounge. Nightly our group enjoyed the casual atmosphere and the different musical groups they had playing. It was a nice place to gather and have a drink before dinner. I would have loved to have more outdoor concerts and evening dancing. I noted you had some private only dances for certain groups, but I know my group would have enjoyed having those opened up to the entire resort. That leads into the one downfall of the trip. We basically called it the St. Louis nightmare. Unfortunately, there was a large spring break group from a couple of catholic schools in St. Louis that took over the resort during our stay. During their time, they "owned" the pool area and most of the other hotspots onsite. They were out of control and obnoxious most of the time. I'm not going to limit this behavior to the youth in the group either. The best part of our stay was when they departed. It seemed like the entire complex breathed a sigh of relief. Everyone I spoke to in the pool the following day was overjoyed that they were gone. It's unfortunate that a group like that feels it's their right to act the way they did. It definitely took away from our time there. I realize it's a trend that large spring break groups travel together, but it's overwhelming and unfair to the rest of the paying customers. Destroying rooms and behaving poorly should not be the norm. Minus the St. Louis group, this was a wonderful place to vacation. Our group partook in snorkeling, massages on the beach, paddle boats, shopping trips into town and a Mayan jungle tour. Enjoyed walking on the beach in the early morning and then again late at night. Beautiful sunrise and sunsets. The beach was kept clean and free of debris and seaweed. They worked hard daily to do this and it was appreciated. I can't say enough about how friendly the staff is here. Each person I encountered greeted me warmly and offered to assist our group when called upon. Kudos! Overall, great place and I would say your best attribute is the staff you have employed. They should be commended.
