This place is phenomenal however....

This place is amazing but I have 1 complaint and a couple suggestions. As for everything good. The customer service is superb. The treat you with such respect everywhere. Everyone is amazing. The food is wonderful. There is so much availability, variety and it is delicious. Every restaurant had different creations and didn't taste like reused buffet food. The coffee is great as well and the little coffee shops are perfect for quick snacks. The pool side bar is fun and service is great. Great, great, great everywhere. Grounds are big enough to have space but small enough that it doesn't take too long to get around. Perfect size. The 930 shows are decent. They last 1 hour and seem a little excessive. I would say they are standard hotel shows. Casino has mainly slots and they just opened some table games but weren't playing for real money until tonight!!!! Pretty small but sports betting seemed like the thing. Beach was gorgeous but be prepared to say no. Many jewelry, henna and hair braiding sellers. But the staff won't allow them to be pushy and keep them at bay, at least at their beach. Unfortunately we had an major incident and I'm not sure the staff knows how to handle it in restaurants. My husband had the ceiling fall on him...hard. The whole plaster ceiling fell on his head. It had been raining for 2 days and the ceiling gave way. While the staff was empathetic and we were checked on many times, we assumed in a place like this they'd take care of you more however no comps. Not a complimentary scalp massage, not an excursion, not a tylenol, a free week, nada. We aren't the type to ask or feel entitled so he left with a headache. I would suggest more involvement around activities during Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Use microphones and try to get more involvement. Sometimes if you didn't know exactly where the activity was happening you were out of luck and you wouldn't have many participate. Many times our family was the only participating in activities. Showers and rooms were great but the design of the shower, not so great. The water pours out into the bathroom. Have extra towels to soak up the water, make sure you don't fall. Every room faces the ocean and have incredible views if above the 3rd floor. I don't think it has to do with the hotel but the whole family got eaten alive. Every day we'd have 3, 4, 5 new bites. You never see anything but the bugs were bad. Overall, the place is ahhhhmazing and one of the best we've been to. I'd suggest it to everyone. Most wonderful staff, food, rooms!!!!!

My husband and I spent a week here. The resort has wonderful staff and service. Our favorite server was Adrian at the Carnival buffet for breakfast. He and Wendy met our every need and more. At the pool/Beach area every single person working was above and beyond great! No long waiting for drinks ever. My husband and I played Dominoes on a little side table one day the next day they set us up with a larger table and it was waiting for us the next day too!. Hats off to Moncerrat! Love you girl. She's so amazing. We also had a great time with Noe playing Rummy the day it rained all day. He is so charming and funny. Even though there were things we didn't enjoy the management worked hard to make things better. Just for information this resort is very family centric. Sense we are an older couple without kids we would prefer an Adults only resort which there is next door. Secrets. Maybe we could stay there if we choose to come back.

6th & Final Visit - Good & Frustrating

This was our 6th visit to this property, and we've stayed at both Now and Secrets, in both regular and Preferred rooms. I've added reviews for several of the trips, and typically only write a new one when something has changed, or is worth noting. This trip was in two Preferred rooms, and we travelled with our two teen-aged children. The Good Check-in was fairly quick and easy at the Preferred counter, friendly service as always, and the snacks in the entry lounge were nice since we'd been travelling all day. Rooms were clean and in good condition. We requested extra bottled water and it was delivered to the room regularly throughout the trip. We dined at all the restaurants here and the food was excellent at each, our favourite is the Japanese restaurant and Castaway's. The bars all offer a great selection, and we particularly enjoy the benefit of the private Preferred bar as it's less busy. The snack/coffee bar is awesome to grab a quick snack and everything is always fresh and staff are friendly and clearly take pride in their work. The Frustrating At check-in, staff asked if we had visited before. I had not only emailed over a month earlier asking a question (that they never replied to), but I had mentioned that we had already been there several times and were looking forward to being back. This happened quite a bit throughout the stay. I do not want any special recognition for having visited outside of an acknowledgement of "hey, thanks for choosing us again." I think this is something that would be pretty easy to do given they have records of all guests stays, and it'd only take a minute to check and made a note on the reservation. Reserving lounge chairs with a towel is rampant at this property, much as it is at most resorts now days. Staff should remove towels from chairs when they see people come down at 6am, put towels out, and then walk away, only to maybe return hours later. When I get to the pool deck with my family to start enjoying the pool and all the chairs sit there with only towels on them it's frustrating. I just move whatever towels are in my way and use the space until we're done, then remove all our gear so the next people can enjoy. This is something pool staff need to deal with, but they won't. You can no longer dine at Bordeaux restaurant on the Secrets side without paying a fee. We did not run into a problem with this as we were there with our children, and there are plenty of choices on the Now side, but just be aware. You do not need, and supposedly can't get, dining reservations at this property, but lining up and being first in line does not mean you'll be seated first and get the table you want. For the first time, we noticed some sort of a tiered system. We were first in line at Castaway's on two occasions and just before the restaurant opened, people came up the side of the line, and were escorted to tables. When I asked the guests why they were being seated ahead of everyone else who had lined up, they said it's because they had purchased a special bottle of wine. In each case they were escorted to the best tables in the restaurant. I asked the hostess what was going on, and she seemed very uncomfortable. I asked if reservations were allowed and she said no. I asked if people in the Preferred section have special access to the restaurants and she said no. The tables who had been sat ahead of us did not have any special bottles of wine during their meals. When I pressed staff for an answer as to why my family stood in the heat for over half an hour in order to get a specific table, and then another couple arrives at opening and goes right to the front of the line, and gets the table we were waiting for (on the one occasion it was our last night of this family vacation), the manager said that the guest had lied, and that it had nothing to do with him buying a special bottle of wine. So I never got an answer, but it clearly made all the staff uncomfortable that I had noticed that something wasn't quite right. We will not be returning to this property. I am confident hotel management will reply and provide the all-too-typical thanks for your review, and we will try to do better, but if you (the hotel) is going to take the time to read this review and say you're going to improve your property, take it upon yourselves to actually improve you're property. Consumers pay attention to this, and notice when genuine effort to improve is being made, rather than just paying lip service.

Best vacation ever!

The service was excellent, food wonderful in all of the restaurants. Everything about this place is wonderful. We had and incident where we needed medical assistance. Our concierge, Derek, was more than helpful. He sent us to their facility doctor, Natalie. She was the best. Sent us in the company van to the nearest hospital where my husband was checked out. They took blood tests, called in a dermatologist, found out what was wrong. They sent us back to the hotel, where Natalie called and ordered RX for us and had them sent to her. Both she and Derek followed up to make sure we were okay and had everything we needed. You always hope medical assistance won't be necessary, but if it is, this is the place you want to be. We also had a fun experience golfing at the Marina Golf Course. Got to tee off next to a 10-12 foot crocodile sunning himself behind us. Luckily, the gardeners were there to make sure he stayed sleeping!

Great Week

We had a great week at Now (Oct 8-15). The hotel was at ~50% capacity and even with a pool and bar closure for one day (maintenance) and a conference of 300 for 3 days the service was very good. There was never an issue with umbrellas, could be due to low occupancy. The room was nice with the only complaint the bathroom lighting, bring a lighted mirror for doing makeup. The restaurants were excellent but there are only 5 and typically 1 is closed. The food was excellent. The staff is very good at ensuring you are happy. Alejandro the pool concierge was the best, got us a bottle of champagne at the pool and a reservation at Secrets for our aniversary, all without us asking. Issrael and Manuel the pool captains in our area were great. Drinks were too strong and he made sure all our drinks were perfect. Edgar and Alan at Castawys for lunch worked their butts off. Fernanda was our favorite hostess and we hope she stays but she also wanted to leave and look after her young baby full time. A few Cons: Only one night time bar, could be an issue at peak times The beach vendors are none stop all day, this needs to be addressed Housekeeping was not the greatest, clean but not what you expect (folding towels, cleaning balcony) The weekend occupancy goes up (local deals?) but the staffing is based on the season. It was not a big issue but again is was not at capacity Beach is not as long as Nuevo and bring water shoes the water is rocky
