Great place for a family trip

I stayed in Now Amber the last week of July with the family and we really enjoyed our vacations. It's a great place to travel with kids. The food was very good, the restaurants were very good, specially the Italian and the Japanese restaurants. We also enjoyed the shows at night, great entertainment for kids also. Great service from the waiters in the pool area and all the staff in the hotel. I guess the only thing that we didn't enjoy was the beach due to rocks all over. Overall, great experience and great hotel More>

Best Holiday Ever!

Well what can I say this hotel is fantastic! As soon as you walk in you get the WOW factor with a superb lobby bar and reception area. With some of the best views and sunsets I have ever seen. You are welcomed with champagne and cold towels which is a lovely touch. The rooms are great too, lovely and spacious and kept immaculately clean. What really makes this hotel is the service and the food in the restaurants and pool area and I would like to give special mentions to the following who really did make our stay so special. Firstly Manuel our pool waiter is by far the BEST waiter we have ever had. He's so friendly , attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you MANUEL, for such a great holiday. Mavi , Manuel boss runs a really tight ship around the pool area and the Castaways restaurant and we have had excellent service and meals each time. All the restaurants are great but the 2 that really stand out for both the service and food is Castaways and Capers. In Castaways , Aldepe is fabulous, so professional and attentive. THANK YOU Aldepe for a great holiday and making it so special. In Capers, Antonio and also Raymundo were amazing , remembering our family and what we like and made great recommendations. Nothing was too much trouble. Again thank you Antonia and Raymundo for looking after us so well. Even in the buffet we have received great service by Patricia who always made a real fuss of my son. We were always greeted with big smiles on a evening by Astrid and Patricia and they were great at keeping the drinks flowing. All in all a wonderful holiday which I can fully recommend and would love to return. Thank you Now Amber a superb time and once again a massive thanks to the staff especially Manuel, Aldepe and Raymundo. More>

The hotel is superb!, our family had a wonderful holiday here...... The daytime offering is outstanding with more than enough for everyone to do, coupled with this is the amazing food and drink quality and choice (really struggle to find anything to complain about) the pool drink service is excellent and probably the best I've ever experienced!! Our waiter 'Manuel' was spot on and I would recommend getting a bed in his area - he provided fun, recommendations and kept our glasses filled!!! His manager 'Mavi' clearly runs a tight ship as everyone works tirelessly to make sure everyone has a perfect time. Every restaurant is well worth a visit but the 2 that really stand out for me were the Italian and castaways as the food quality and level of service is the best I have ever experienced on a vacation. In the Italian Antonio & Raymondo will take superb care of you and remember your names, wine choices and make recommendations based on what you have eaten before!! The steak is highly recommended here!! Castaways setting is superb looking out to the ocean and in here Manuel Aldepe will make sure you have the best time, checking if the menu is ok and altering for your kids if they can't see anything they fancy. In the evening there is plenty of entertainment and the lobby bar service is also great Patricia and astrid both take great care of you. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys quality and loves to have fun. More>

Spent two weeks at this hotel from July 23rd. We were allocated a room on the second floor (level below reception) which I was unhappy with, after some behind the desk discussions in Spanish of which I only understood the word TUI (our tour operator) it was agreed we could have a room on the 12th floor which was fantastic. The only issue being we couldn't have 2 queen beds but had to have a king bed. Our 7 year old got a foldaway bed and our 4 year old slept on the chaise (chez) lounge long chair. The staff were a little nervous offering us this but it actually worked out brilliantly. We saw no point booking the Preferred Section. Room was cleaned daily, never had an issue with lack of towels, never had to chase the mini bar - far better than what we've experienced in Palace / Hard Rock hotels. Only issue was turndown, which had frequently occurred before we had even returned from the pool. Towel art would have been a nice touch. Air con worked well, large TV with HD channels, over bed ceiling fan, no bugs. Had some noise from drunken people around the elevators late at night and the LED lights weren't working around the ceiling (minor). I fixed the curtains myself on arrival and a new bulb for the bed side light came within 24h. Our rep took orders for extra hangars in the welcome meeting, 4-5 became 20 odd! Very peculiar was the telly remote, worked perfectly other than the power button (which was sending a signal but the TV just didn't do anything). Pools, otherwise known as the largest hot bath you'll ever enter could do with a bit of cooling. Every night, a section around the pool was heavily cleaned meaning the place was very clean. Pool side burger place was good but caused issues with wild birds for which they had the best solution - a trainer with a bird of prey - fantastic. Drink service around the pool was one of the best we've ever had, I usually make a point of ignoring reviews with staff's names included, so for the first time ever I feel the need to break my own rule! Salvador around the pool would always ensure I wasn't thirsty and even went out of his way to get me an ice cream one afternoon. The lack of any ice cream other than at the lunchtime buffet was a disappointment. The swim up pool bar had Orlando serving. He must be the hardest working barman in Mexico. He is very good as mixing up any cocktail you might request and was very fair in ensuring all were served in turn (which upset some people!). He could desperately do with someone else working next to him which isn't tied up constantly doing drinks for the beach waiters (again a very good service). You did have to ask for the premium brand each and every time though, otherwise the cheap local stuff would always be used - this was especially the case with Bailleys in the main bar! Selection of drinks were good, could have done with a cocktail list for some inspiration but there was a better selection next door at Secrets, one of the tell tale sign showing this hotel is not in their premium category. The 24h coffee shop does a proper espresso / cappuccino from beans and is far better than what you get anywhere else. Also great for Brits waking at 4am on the first morning! I really enjoyed the food here. Nothing bad, but also nothing spectacular. I reject people's comments about lack of variety on the buffet - yes it is very similar day to day, but there's so much choice every day that unless you're having 10 courses and sampling everything there should be something different to try tomorrow! The buffet at lunchtime was a welcomed retreat from the sun at 2pm for some much needed air con. Waiters were more than happy to bring drinks in large glasses - you only had to ask. I think I drank more out of hard plastic than glass on this holiday than any other, whilst I appreciate this is for our safety and fully agree around the pool, it came across cheap in the main bar. The quality of food was consistently very good. The options were lacking in more premium options that I've had elsewhere like fillet stake and lobster although this was available on the Secrets side in the French restaurant with a non all-inclusive supplement. This restaurant was a class above those on the Amber side despite seeing some familiar staff faces! This was the only restaurant that needed booking, done with concierge. Kids were left in the kids club, we did have to rush desert to get back to them in time - so keep an eye on your watch when there if this applies to you! Our kids were very dissapointed with the kids club. They found some of the events rather boring as there was a large group and all but one had to wait their turn for instance on the climbing wall, again safety first but they didn't want to go back (they were forced back for us to have the French dinner!). Entertainment varied. Due to the evening rain, the amphitheatre was often cancelled resulting on shows being done in the foyer / corridor. This place was not built for this purpose resulting in only few being able to see the action and blocking the path for others. Outside agencies were brought in to do the shows, I feel their creativity might have been impaired by this. Of note, the advertised show in the daily "briefing" left on your bed with turndown, didn't always match reality and never matched what was on the iOS app! Sometimes, shows were advertised to be next door at the Secret's conference hall, this often didn't materialise, especially if you were wondering over with kids it would seem! One day we planned to do the kitchen tour, as did many others, no staff turned up to do the tour with concierge not able to get through to anyone for any updates leaving a lot of us hanging around the reception area, poor. The hotel's location is great, walkable to lots of places but given the heat, there's plenty of taxis nearby and a very regular VERY cheap local bus service - which I think all should experience. Only 10 min by bus to Malacon which is well worth a visit by day and Sunday night. I did not like the hotel's design though of having to walk up a steep driveway from the main gate to the lobby on the 3rd floor. There is a lift on the Secrets side but as we had kids we weren't allowed to use and walk through. Beach, very scenic from a distance and provided far better pictures and memories than any hotel we've stayed in on the Cancun side. Up close, dark sand, very pebbly and large stones. In conclusion, I wouldn't hesitate in returning as long as we had a high floor room and the price was right. Looking at next year's prices though they are not! Would like to return to the Puerto Vallarta region but feel it's lacking the larger resort type hotel that our kids would prefer, they missed the lack of free arcade, easier pool bar service, larger pool slides, little water park, play area separate from kids club and fries with room service!
