Second Time - VERY NICE AGAIN!
Lana H, Calgary

We had visited the Now Amber a couple years ago, shortly after it opened, and we enjoyed it then and it was even better this time. Thank you to Ricardo and Daniel Rojas - Pool area Waiters Patrica Sanchez, Lobby Bar Lizeth who cleaned our room and did a great job Daniel in the Prefered Club Concierge (and he actually recognized us from the last time we were there) Octavio, Humberto, Emmanuel and all the other Entertainment staff who did a great job every day entertaining everyone. The property is small but beautiful and very clean. The beach is a bit rocky but that is not a big deal at all, it's a beautiful location, very close to the Malecon. The service was great and the food was very good. I have a gluten allergy and overall they accommodated that very well. I had decided to ask if they could get gluten free beer, which they could, but just found it a bit too expensive, however I really very much appreciated their efforts in trying to accommodate that!!! Great customer service there. Thank you Cesar for trying! I did manage to find it very close by at a very good price! One Negative that I would mention is there is pretty much NO SHADE in the pools....that is too bad because it gets very very hot. Honestly this resort is really great!! The Lobby Bar is beautiful at night!!! Very relaxing with some nightly music or entertainment. We travel to Mexico often and a lot of times to the PV area and this is one of our top picks. We have recommend friends to go to the Now Amber and some have and have also very much enjoyed it! More>

Amazing resort- best we have ever stayed at!

I have been to numerous resorts before and this one was by far the best! I don't typically write reviews however after experiencing the Now Amber I felt compelled to share my experience. The resort itself is gorgeous, BUT all the staff there are incredible and the service was exceptional! Staff definitely went above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and pampered! A special shout out needs to be given to the lobby bar staff who were so much fun! We had the pleasure of meeting two bartenders who particularly stood out for us: -Juan gave us a history lesson on a variety of different alcohols and was very friendly -Valentin was very knowledgable on mixing drinks and made some fantastic cocktails. He also impressed us with skills in bottle flaring-very talented! We attended all the restaurants and they were great! Good food, great drinks and again amazing staff! The rooms were very clean and had a great view of the ocean. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the free 24 hour room service was amazing. I will definitely be back to this resort! More>

I agree with the WOW

This hotel is just WOW. From the moment you arrive the staff treat you like 5 star guests and it doesn't stop at all. We had a very bad flight delay and were very frazzled when we arrived but from the moment we entered the hotel that melted away. The flannels and glass of bubbly (juice for the kids) was welcome after 20 hours of travelling. Check in was quick easy and they could not do enough to help. We ordered room service which did have a long wait but as it was intake day I am sure they were very busy. It was very much welcomed so we didn't have to drag ourselves down to a restaurant that night. The rooms was spotlessly clean and was maintained that way for the whole fortnight. The cleaner did keep removing 1 dressing gown which was frustrating but we always managed to resolve this with very little fuss. (I have seen people moan about the damp smell in the rooms. Yes it is there but for goodness sake this is perfectly normal in a climate like that. Keep your doors closed and your aircon on and it is fine. I had no problems with my clothes getting wet or smelling and would suggest that these people have not closed their doors properly as this would cause this problem) The Jacuzzi bath was a huge hit and we used it almost every day. Wifi in my room and around the hotel was excellent which unfortunately meant I was able to stay in touch with work :( The restaurants were lovely and they went out of their way to make you welcome. The Mexican restaurant quickly became our favourite and that was mainly due to the Maitre d - Hector who made my son feel very welcome and went out of his way for us. I forgot my glasses one night and he loaned me his. He gave my son a hat to wear on a couple of occasions and made me a "Mexican Coffee" one night (this must be tried for the pure entertainment factor). My son also became an expert guacamole chef in the time we were there. The other restaurants were just as good but we did favour the Thai and the Mexican. The buffet restaurant was okay but there were days when we struggled but it was far superior to any other buffet style restaurant I have experienced. Breakfast was amazing and there was so much choice. Although 1 tip for them :- Tea !!! getting English breakfast tea each morning was hard work. Having to explain every day that I wanted a pot of hot water and 3-4 tea bags just didn't seem to compute. I think some staff training on Tea wouldn't go a miss !! They tried to make it on a couple of occasions but I am afraid they failed severely. Just bring me the water and the teabags and let me make my own. That said it became a bit of an amusement each day to see what we got when we asked. Now for the pool. I have to say that the pool area was fantastic. I never struggled to get a sunbed with a view of the kids pools to keep a beady eye on my 10 yr old who was running around all day like a mad thing. Special mention must go to one of the waiters Daniel Roja. from the second day he made sure I was well looked after and went well beyond what I would expect from a poolside waiter. He even intervened when my son got injured in the pool as he had got to know him and he stopped serving to go and help at the poolside. I cannot thank him enough for making my lazing around the pool one of the most well catered for experiences of any holiday ever. If you are going make sure you seek him out and adopt him as your waiter for the duration. He is a star. Coming back to my son's injury. He got winded when another child came down the slide and kicked him in the chest. It was no ones fault and these things happen. But the response from the hotel was first class. by the time I got by his side 3 members of staff were already there trying to assist. I was then approached by one of the managers and they sent one of the medical team over to assess him. He was absolutely fine but just shocked and winded but they went out of their way to make sure he was okay. Ice cream seemed to do the trick in the end though. The main lounge area was fabulous with stunning views night and day and I may have had a few G&T's or cocktails sitting there in the evening and again I always managed to get a seat (which surprised me) The entertainment was brilliant and although it was repeated weekly we still enjoyed it. My son enjoyed all of the shows and I have to admit that so did I which shocked me to be honest as these things can be somewhat tedious at times. The coffee shop was also a big hit. We visited most days on our way back from the pool for a siesta and I may have indulged in the odd piece of carrot cake which was superb. They also did baguettes which was a welcome alternative to the pool grill offerings of mainly burgers, hotdogs, pizza and chips. Saying that though the food at the grill was good and my son happily ate there most days but I was happier with a baguette. The grill did have daily specials that I quite often nibbled on and the burgers were good. They also had a taco stand a couple of times a week which was worth a visit. The pool entertainment was very good as well. They did not force it on you but there were things going on all day and you could join in if the fancy took you. They also had other activities and on a couple of occasions we went out kayaking around the bay which was great fun. Kids club. This is a sore point. I booked this hotel on the basis of the kids club and my darling son only went in 4 times in the whole two weeks as he was having so much fun around the pool with people that he met. But it was well run and they had a full list of activities every day. He did a few activities but I think he was one of the older children so favoured splashing around in the pool. For the younger ones they looked like they were having a whale of a time though so I highly recommend it. If I am honest I could go on forever about this hotel. It was as relaxing or as action packed as you wanted it to be and I cannot fault a thing. However I am going to just point one thing out. Others have mentioned the beach. It is not golden sand and it is rocky. It is a bit of a feat to get in and out of the water and it is rough. But I knew this before I went so I wasn't disappointed. As long as you are aware then it shouldn't present an issue. It also did not stop my son playing on the floating trampoline or the iceberg. All in all this was one of the best holidays we have had and that is mainly due to the staff who make you feel special the entire time. I want to repeat my thanks though to Two members of Staff that will stick out for us Hector (Maitre D of the Mexican - although he popped up in other places as well) and Daniel Roja (pool bar tender) these two people deserve recognition for upholding the Now Amber reputation with their superb customer service. If you are thinking of booking this hotel stop thinking about it and book it More>

BEST HOLIDAY WE'VE HAD!
Clare M, Sunderland, United Kingdom
Sun Sep 06 23:31:28 EDT 2015
We've just returned from 2 weeks at the fantastic Now Amber (travelled as a family of 3). This hotel is pure luxury, we've been spoiled rotten. You're given a glass of champagne and cold towel as soon as you step off the bus, and you're met with that knockout view of Banderas Bay (I miss that view). Check in was swift and we were greeted with 'welcome home'. We made our way to our room and our luggage followed about 10mins later with a lovely member of staff who showed us round our room and how everything worked. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, with a large wall mounted tv and a very comfy chez lounge which our daughter loved to sit on. The bathroom is wonderful, 2 sinks, large Jacuzzi bath, separate walk in shower and separate toilet, so you can all be getting ready at the same time. We were on the 8th floor, apparently the 9th floor is the highest floor you can get with 2 double beds which worked great for us, after this it's just one king size bed. The maid service was excellent, as soon as they see you've opened a shower gel etc they will give you more. One day they noticed we were running low on toothpaste so gave us a tube of Colgate, nice touch I thought. The mini bar is stocked daily with 5 Corinitas, lots of water, juice and pop. One of the best things about this hotel is the restaurants, you don't have to book into the a la cartes and you can use them as often as you like (unlike other hotels we've been to). So for this reason we rarely ate in the buffet, it was nice to just see what you fancied on the day rather than planning your meals a week in advance. Our favourites were the Italian and Mexican, but the food was nice in all of them. Castaways lunch menu is better than their dinner menu in our opinion, but on an evening it's a lovely place to have a meal watching the sunset. The sun sets at about 8.30pm (during August) so you get a full day of sunshine. The lobby bar is the perfect place to sit with a drink and watch the sunset and the boats sail by. All of the staff work extremely hard, we had our regulars though, Patricia in the lobby bar, Fernando by the pool, Carlos (the happy waiter) in the Italian and all the girls who work in the kids club. The kids club is another wonderful asset to the Now Amber. It runs from 9am until 10pm and once you've registered your child they can dip in and out depending on what activities they want to do. The club even take them to the buffet for their lunches and dinners meaning you can have quality time together which is usually a rarity on holiday. They give you a pager though in case your child wants to come out. Each night the turn down service leave you an itinerary of the following days activities, both for kids and adults, plus it gives you info on the restaurants as they close a different one each day. The drinks are fabulous, I can't understand how people can say they aren't strong, believe me they are very strong! We got caught out a few times at the swim up pool bar, which is a great place to make new friends and try new drinks. Some days it was a bit rowdy in there, other days it was very sedate and a nice place for the kids to play. The plastic glasses you get around the pool are bigger than any I've had elsewhere, they are very generous with the measures and it's all top shelf stuff (Smirnoff, Absolut etc.) The coffee shop behind reception was one of our favourite places to go. It was air conditioned so a nice place to go and cool down, the coffees are fantastic (paper cups though so you can take them out) and they do food all day. Pastries in the morning, then cakes and lovely big sandwiches later on. If you can't be bothered with the buffet for breakfast, this was an excellent alternative, I often called in for a coffee and piece of fruit on my way to the gym. There are a couple of computers in here too so it serves as an internet café. You don't need to wear wristbands and the beach towels are already out around the pool so you can just help yourself, then dump them in the dirty towel basket at the end of the day. When leaving the hotel the bell boys take a note of you room number, then again when you return, the security is excellent. This hotel is well situated to explore Puerto Vallarta, a taxi into town costs about 80 pesos / £3, we found it a bit too hot to walk. We went into town a few times and watched the locals go about their business (Sunday nights are the best). Unlike Riviera Maya, you're not in the middle of no where. As soon as you step out of the hotel there are bars and shops and tons of massage places if that's your thing. The beach is a public beach and the hotels all keep their bit clean. Yes it's quite rocky and if you've got reef shoes then take them, but the main problem we found was the heat of the sand. Once it got to 11am it was impossible to walk on. The tide and current are very strong and the seabed drops away quite steeply, this made entering and exiting the water with both dignity and swimwear in tact almost impossible. I found that throwing myself in, then crawling out on all fours did the job! The vendors are quite bothersome, don't look them in the eye or just a firm 'no' will do it. We both got offered drugs on more than one occasion. You could literally do all of your souvenir shopping from your sunbed if you wanted. Non motorised water sports are included, so my husband and daughter took a Kayak out which was fun. The hotel runs daily Kayak tours of the bay each morning which seemed to be popular. I can't find anything negative to say about this hotel, we absolutely loved it and would definitely consider returning. More>

Luxurious at the Preferred Club!
aaaa7777, New York
Tue Sep 08 23:31:28 EDT 2015
We stayed at the Now Amber in April 2015 and what a treat! Our family of four with two kids booked the Preferred Club which we were so glad we did. The food at the Preferred Club was okay, much better at the restaurants but it was nice to have and know it's there if you ever need a snack. The drinks that the Preferred club are a little more higher end so even when we were at the pool we would go back into the club building to grab a drink (for instance, no grey goose at the pool). The wines were also better quality at the preferred. We thought it was well worth it for the extras and the service. The bartender there would make fresh fruit smoothies as soon as he saw my kids walking in, they were truly pampered! We were asked several times about timeshare sales but we kept telling them we are not interested, I think by mid-week the staff realized we would not go to the presentations. My daughter age 7 really enjoyed the kids club. For my son who is a bit older, he felt it was too structured so did not use it. He couldn't just go in and play xbox or video games, you can only play such games at a fixed time daily usually only for 30 minutes so it was too many people trying to play. Some of the special activities they had like bungee jumping was a lot of fun but the kids had to wait on line for their turn to do anything. The kids did not like the food at kids club at all so the one night we left them there they were starving when we picked them up. Luckily, the buffet restaurant was still open. We are not usually buffet people, but must say this resort had ample options at the buffet and many hot or live stations so you can ask for a particular piece of fish or steak and they will cook it for you. The kids loved the pool slide and spent hours on it. The boys took the kayak out one of the days(when it finally got repaired) and they liked that too. My husband went out to play golf at the courses they are affiliated with however, by the time you pay taxi fare, green fees, etc it is an expensive round but he felt it was still worth it. Would have been nice if they offered more discounts for golf. We did a few excursions on our own and went out to boardwalk and a couple of local restaurants to try the food, it was safe and easy to walk around and also take taxis or public transportation via bus. We did not use the spa facilities at the resort, seemed pricey and when we got there, we were told by a few people including some hotel staff that the massages next door are actually better. And they were right! For $25 you can get a full hour amazing deep tissue massage. We found the masseuses we liked and went for massages every day! Even the kids which was ridiculous but where else will they get massages!! Our favorite spot to hang out in was the lobby at this hotel. The views from there at sunset are just absolutely stunning. We also enjoyed the beach nights they had, which was just organized dinner on the beach. I know some people don't like the vendors on the beach but I thought it was quite convenient when it came time to pick up a few souvenirs (nice hats, bags, swim cover ups) and getting my daughter's hair braided. The prices were very similar to the shops in the area and the vendors are willing to negotiate but it's not a lot of money to begin with so I didn't mind paying them the price they asked. The beach was clean but it's public so open to the locals as well. The nightly shows were okay, seen better at other Mexican resorts but the Casino night was fun. The live music in the lobby was quite nice as well. We tried all of the resort restaurants at least once, they definitely had many options and a lot of variety for everyone. Lastly, we had NO wifi in our room, and almost none around the resort. We called our concierge and asked for working wifi a few times and a couple of days later, they sent us a router to be installed in our room. After that, we were well connected in our room. The Preferred lobby had okay wifi but the pool and the main lobby we could never connect. We would definitely go back to this resort and Puerto Vallarta is really beautiful, the longer flight to this part of Mexico was definitely worth it! More>
