A great spot for a relaxing vacation with kids

This was our third visit in three years, so we obviously enjoy Nickelodeon! After a long winter, the amazing climate of the Punta Cana area is a huge draw. The breeze off the ocean made it never seem overly hot and I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful grounds in the gorgeous weather. Overall, the food was quite good, especially breakfast and the bread products, generally speaking. I made reservations via email before the trip for Verdello and SpaceWalker, as my experience in previous years with the personal Concierges were downright negative and I wanted to avoid them at all costs, although I heard from others that they weren’t as aggressive this year as we had experienced previously. So, maybe there’s improvement?? We have food allergies, and I appreciated being asked and the general awareness of allergies, but I was still extremely cautious at the buffet to avoid cross contamination, which was a definite possibility. I largely avoided desserts, but Doppio was a good alternative, as there were days when nothing with nuts was in the display case, so I felt more comfortable. I also noticed at the Beach Party that the same tongs were being used for raw and cooked hamburgers. SpaceWalker seems to be trying something new (at least new to me ) with a set menu. It is not well communicated and I would have preferred just to order what we wanted off the menu. The service at Verdello was very nice. The Burger place is always one of my favourites and Glenny at Doppio was always very pleasant and efficient, even when things are hectic in the morning. I hope she is recognized by management for excellent service. The pools are fantastic and the small pool at aquaNick was ideal for my 4 and 8 year olds. I didn’t need to be in the pool with them (my 4 year old could comfortably touch the bottom of the pool) but I was eagle-eyed in a nearby lounge chair. Uncle Luis and David are excellent life guards and leave a lasting impression with everyone they meet. My four year old remembered David from our last trip and was more excited to see him than any of the Nick characters! In contrast to the calm pools, the ocean is quite rough and full of seaweed. I was nervous to have my family any deeper than their knees. My more adventurous husband loved it, though. The beach beds are more my speed and the pinnacle of relaxation. The best thing about this resort is that it never seems crowded. It has lots going on, but I never feel rushed or stressed. Two things that would make this resort even better in my opinion would be slightly earlier entertainment for the kids (7:00 would be awesome) and more music during the day (the spa music by the pool is a nice way to get the day started, but a live band by the pool (or anywhere) in the afternoon would be really excellent and lend a more energetic vibe to the place. ) The 8:00 pm start time for most shows resulted in my younger son falling asleep in my arms at the Circus Show and at the Beach party and he couldn’t even make it to the Magic Show. Of course, part of the problem was that the kids played so hard during the day that they were exhausted in the evening. All in all, an excellent vacation and I would recommend this resort to others, but with realistic expectations of slightly slow service and plenty of good food, but not on par with North American standards. Finally, and this has nothing to do with the resort itself, but the line ups at the Punta Cana airport can only be described as punishing. Close to 2 hours in line for customs, immigration and security is not fun. I guess Punta Cana is a victim of its own success in this regard— airplane loads of people from all over the world arriving and needing to be processed. I hope the authorities that be can come up with a solution to this or folks will be deterred from returning to this area.

Great vacation for family memories!

We just returned from a trip to the Nickelodeon Resort in Punta Cana, where we traveled with 8 family members aged 3-85. We had three flat suites, which had couches pulled out for the children. Blackout curtains were great for afternoon napping. The only complaint was that the hallways were a bit echoey and could be noisy. The resort's "village square" is where most of the restaurants and entertainment happens. Plenty to see and do in the evenings. The resort is compact, and there is a shuttle service that runs from end to end every 20 minutes. With this said, the kids club and Aquanick water park, as well as the very well-equipped sports complex are across the highway via underpass. The food was excellent. Verdella was excellent. We also loved Zest for lunch and the Sugarcane buffet was always excellent. You can always get an excellent coffee at Dopio. Lighthouse restaurant on the beach is family friendly for lunch. Finally - the resort's food allergy program was excellent in theory. At each buffet there are signs that show which allergens are in each food. HOWEVER. After our son had a mild reaction, we started looking a bit more closely at the signs, and realized that occasionally signs were mixed up and indicated something was safe when it was not. His reaction took place after eating a croissant that was marked safe, but was obviously not. Something for the resort to work on, because otherwise we had a seamless and amazing time.

Great place, kid friendly, could be more organized

I'll be brief - we really enjoyed our stay and everyone was super friendly - the kids had a blast. Some improvements we'd like to recommend to make it even more enjoyable is to improve organization and planning. As we parents can appreciate, planning is very important to ensure things go smoothly! It is very difficult to book dinner reservations ahead of time with confidence. Calendars of activities should be distributed weekly - but are done daily instead - and depending who you talk to...you get very different answers on what to expect! The kids club is decent...but opens relatively late...making it difficult to take advantage of for an adult dinner during the week. Since the campus is large, it is pretty important to grab golf carts when possible to reduce the walking - another key consideration with kids...especially in the heat. The problem with their cart system is their expected arrival times are never correct...so you end up just getting lucky...or waiting for a while for no reason then walk. They should just constantly have golf carts driving around picking up folks. Lastly, the sports fields are nice...but since its hot...difficult to utilize as they are in the sun. Not a big deal since we were there for the beach and pool, but just FYI for folks.

Wow! I was blown away by the Suite we stayed in. We stayed in a swim-up flat suite. It has a bedroom, living room, breakfast bar, huge bathroom, private patio and the shared pool. The housekeeping staff was outstanding and keep our sweet super clean each day. The service at the front desk was great. They were kind and helpful. The food was great! Sugarcane buffet had so many choices, I didn’t get bored. There were lots of restaurants to choose from as well. The centre square is a great spot in the evening. All the restaurants are there and there is live entertainment each night outdoors. My concierge was nice but asked very personal questions, which I didn’t appreciate. It felt like he was working for commission since he was trying to sell various packages rather that genuinely help us. Finally, the wait and pool staff was friendly. My 6 year old son was always greeted with a smile. They definitely cater to kids. I often had to approach pool waiters however for drinks as they rarely approached me. Overall it was a great trip. I recommend the Burgrs restaurants. They have so many creative burgers. Also, my son loved the waterpark. The water slides were perfect for his age (he is 6). My only real disappointment was the beach. We could not swim in it. It was rough and full of seaweed.

Uncle Luis is the best!!

I was at the resort for March Break with my son and I have to say the best part of our trip was meeting Uncle Luis in the water park. He was wonderful with the kids! Super friendly, always a smile on his face and a friendly greeting to be had. My son looked forward to greeting him everyday and getting his high fives! Thank you Uncle Luis for making my son’s trip so memorable!
